MSI has a serious KVM switch problem.

On the K8N the iogear USB KVM switches DO NOT WORK. I have two computers.. one with an asus board and one with an MSI. Works fine on the asus board. I did a search and noticed another guy was having the same problems. So its a error that MSI needs to fix. Have they fixed it yet? If not it really needs to be looked into.

Well the PS/2 type Iogear works fine. It is just the USB version that does not with this board. That sux because I need the USB version so it will recognize my MX 500 mouse. If you place an adaptor on the PS/2 version it just sees it as a standard mouse thus not enabling the other buttons.
The belkin USB 2 port KVM works fine but the damn thing has no hot key switching and it is slow.
Could you not use a USB > PS2 adapter for your mouse and run your mouse off PS2 and use a PS2 KVM? I use a MX700 mouse on the PS2 port and with mouseware installed, all my extra (5) buttons work fine

  • KVM switchs, any problems with MSI boards???

    Hi Everybody!!
X-Abit fan here, I have a 2 port Belkin DVI KVM switch. I had trouble with Asus and kvm's so I'm asking ahead of time. I built a couple of MSI boxes in the P3 days and had good experience. I'm glad to here Quality is back as a priority at MSI. Congrats on the #1 spot on Tomshardware 965P round up.
Hope the forums here as lively as the Abit one is.
    Thanks for the help??

some KVM switch has incompatibility issue with some boards. What you have is just by luck they both work together!

  • Problems Usingt External VGA Monitor Through KVM Switch

I have my ThinkPad x201 connected to a KVM switch along with three other machines.  The KVM is attached to a monitor with a resolution of 1920x1200.
Does the ThinkPad have to be rebooted with the KVM switch attached to the VGA port and with the switch set to the THnkPad?
I plug in the VGA connector with the KVM switch set to the ThinkPad.  I then press fn-F7 and get four choses: Computer Only, Duplicate, Extend and Projector Only.  I only want to display on the external monitor but Projector Only does not seem to be the correct choice although it does switch to the monitor it also puts up a message box saying the projector was not found.  When I go to change the resolution I am offen limited to 1680 x 1050.  Other times I can set it to 1900 x 1200.
When I switch the KVM to another machine I hear a tone from the ThinkPad that indicates something has changed.  Then when I switch the KVM back to the ThinkPad I briefly see the display on the monitor at a lower resolution and then the monitor goes dark and the ThinkPad screen lights up.
I have also tried Extend mode with the output set to go only to the monitor.  Again, if I switch the KVM away from the ThinkPad I hear a tone from the ThinkPad.  When I switch the KVM back to the ThinkPad I again briefly see the display on the monitor at a lower resoulution and the the monitor goes blank and the ThinkPad's display lights up.
Is there a way around this behavior that will stop the ThinkPad from switching its output or can an external monitor only be used if it is directly connected to the ThinkPad?

I am also having the same problem with a ThinkPad T420s and a Trendnet TK-409 KVM. This KVM has worked for so many other laptops and desktops, I find it difficult to believe the ThinkPad would not work with a KVM - particularly this one. Any suggestions and help would be highly appreciated. Thank you.

my computer has some serious problems, my iphoto only shows  only shows thumb size pics when I try to open them, i tried to rebuild my files from folders that had the pics in them. originally all the photos had a large delta with a question mark. also I can't back up the library file because its not there. I went to time machune and tried to find the file but I can't find it or I am looking in the wrong place. I also lost my Idvd file, only have broken chain showing.

    Details please
What version of iPhoto and of the OS?
i tried to rebuild my files from folders that had the pics in them.
Exactly what did you do and how did you do it? this ay be the cause of your issue but without details we can n=ony guess
my iphoto only shows  only shows thumb size pics when I try to open them,
where do you see htis? In the iPhoto window? what does "try to pen them" exactly mean?
originally all the photos had a large delta with a question mark.
Ok - this usually has a simple solution - do you still have a copy of the library that has this problem?
also I can't back up the library file because its not there.
This makes no sense at all - all of your previous statements indicate that you do have an iPhoto library but have some problems with it
By default your iPHoto library is located in your Pictures folder and is named iPhtoo library - if tha tis not the case the you have moved or renamed it and only you know what you did until you tell us the details
I went to time machune and tried to find the file but I can't find it or I am looking in the wrong place.
Again unless you actually share what and how you are doing thing but continue to simply state abstract problems it is no possible to assist you - details on using Time Machine are here  --  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1427?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US   --     and   --    http://pondini.org/TM/FAQ.html   ---
I also lost my Idvd file, only have broken chain showing.
This would be better addressed in the iDVD forum - but again unlesss yu share detailed information no one can assist

  • Has anyone else had a problem with the audio not keeping up with the video when switching to full screen on YouTube?

Hi. I have a OS X Yosemite Version 10.10.1 Mac Book Air, Processor 1.86 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo.
Has anyone else had a problem with the audio not keeping up with the video when switching to full screen on YouTube?
The video starts out fine, but if I click on the expand icon in the lower right corner of the screen the audio won't keep up.
Refreshing the page don't help at all. In fact, nothing seems to help once it starts.
I did not have this problem at all using Mavericks. The problem started after installing Yosemite.
    Any way to fix it?

only $99, i thought it was closer to $175.

I bought an iPhone 5 around fifteen days back and it has already started to give problem with the on/off button. I have to press it five six times to switch it on or off. I am so frustrated by the fact that if I bring it to the service centre, I am going to get a refurbished phone in place of my brand new phone which I just bought. The idea of a used phone repulses me. Any solutions ?

Why?  Your current phone is used... it has been since the instant it was removed from the shrink wrap and turned on.
    sumeshdua wrote:

Live with the phone as is.
Take the device to Apple for evaluation... it may not need replacement.
Even if it does, neither you or the Apple tech should be able to tell if the replacement is new or refurbished.

  • Problem with iBook G4 and Belkin KVM switch

I purchased an iBook G4 a few months ago, and then recently got a Belkin KVM switch to share a monitor with my Windows XP computer. The switch is powered over USB (so uses a USB mouse and keyboard). It worked great up until recently. Now, whenever I switch over to the iBook, it shows the OSX desktop, and you can hear the USB devices (mouse and keyboard) "unplug" from the XP box (familiar USB sound on XP). Then, after about 2 or 3 seconds, it goes back to the XP display and re-enables the USB mouse and keyboard in XP. The only thing I can figure is that the KVM switch is not getting any or enough power from the iBook USB to let it know it's there. I should mention that the only thing I did different in between the time it worked and started to not work was plug in an M-Audio Fasttrack USB guitar device to the iBook at the same time. Both the KVM and Fasttrack worked together only once. Now, the KVM won't work, both alone and with the Fasttrack. I have used the Fasttrack before and it worked just fine, but this was the first time I used it with the KVM together.
I have seen a few posts on this general topic, but none that I saw had any possible solutions. Could it be an OSX update that broke this somehow? Thanks.
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

Well, I managed to figure out the problem. I called Belkin, and they suggested unplugging everything and then plugging it back in. And, wouldn't you know, it worked. I'm not sure why, but I'm not complaining. So, if anyone else runs into this same issue, try this.

  • Xorg + KVM switch = Flickering and artifacts

    Dear all,
I recently bought two small kvm switches produced by Digitus.
They are working fine when I use my Windows box but sadly it's another story with my Arch laptop. When I don't use the KVM switches my two displays a rendered fine. However when I plug the KVM switches I get some kind of flickering red/green/blue lines/pixels on the display, It's a bit tricky to describe so here is a photo (Here it is some green dot, but that might vary) :
As you might think, I am trying to get rid of those artifacts.

I had a look on the windows box and as far as I can tell the same mode is used 1920x1080@60Hz. I really have no idea of what's is going on, so far I can think of :
    - Something wrong with xorg
    - Something wrong with the i915 driver
    - The KVM cable armouring
    - Something else?!
    Any suggestion/remark/help is welcome
And please let me know if you need me to gather more information.

Hi, sorry for the delayed answer, I didn't have the time to update the topic yesterday evening.
Also, when you boot the Arch machine, do you have the kvm set to its port until from bootloader until X is up? I have an issue with resolution detection when I boot any Linux with my kvm set to another port. It's not artefacts, but it may be worth looking into.
During the entire boot process up to some point in the systemd init sequence my external screens are disabled either by using the KVM switch or not (When the KVM is used, the active port is set to the Arch box).
I have did some research yesterday and I am wondering if that might be caused by DDC?! I found this post on the Open Suze forums. The user seems to describe a simmilar issue but with another hardware.
I have been trying to disable DDC but unfortunately without success so far. By adding to the device section of Xorg (According the intel man page)
    Option "DDC" "false"
The option is simply ignored :
    1 dna@DNA-NOTEBOOK ~ % grep DDC /var/log/Xorg.0.log
[ 504.104] (WW) intel(0): Option "NoDDC" is not used
[ 505.189] (II) intel(0): Printing DDC gathered Modelines:
Is that because KMS has now become mandatory?
Could those artifacts be the actual DDC queries? or some signal corruption due to improper handling on the KVM switch?
    EDIT1:
Well according to the data sheet, this switch should support DDC with DDC2 Monitor. How can I found out which DDC version my monitor support? I can't find anything on the web for this model.
I am also contacting Digitus regarding this issue. I will keep this post updated.
    EDIT2:
I keep digging this stuff and I don't think it has to do with DDC for two reasons. First I can disable DDC/CI feature on my monitor. Sadly it didn't help. Still those artifacts. Second xrandr is able to read the EDID correctly. I am no expert but as I understand that's why DDC is meant for.
I have also noticed an interesting thing this afternoon. I was working remotely on a box via rdp but for some reason the artifacts was not rendered on the viewer. They stopped at the border ... Any idea?
    EDIT3:
I kept investigating this issue during the past weekend and I  think it's related to the intel driver. First I have tested the switch with 2 others machines. The first one was running a dual boot with windows 8 and arch. Both OS detected and rendered the display correctly (On windows the latest catalyst driver was used and on arch the open source radeon driver). The second setup however produced the same display corruption (As the picture in the first post) and was also running the intel driver but on a HD 3000 serie graphic chip.
Secondly I noticed (happend only once) a couple of messages in the xorg log :
    [ 40264.490] (EE) intel(0): sna_mode_redisplay: page flipping failed, disabling CRTC:3 (pipe=0)
    [ 40264.490] (EE) intel(0): sna_mode_redisplay: page flipping failed, disabling CRTC:5 (pipe=1)
I have tried rolling back to uxa + disabling triple buffer but sadly the issue remain.
I was not able to replicate the above messages. Here follows 2 xorg log. Maybe that someone has an idea?!

  • KVM resolution problem

Hi; I have a 2.16 with an Apple mini DVI to VGA adapter trying to connect to a LCD display through a Belkin KVM. The problem is that the desktop will show up on both monitors momentarily then go blank (both), after a few seconds the MB display will come on at a different resolution and the external display will show "No signal". A few seconds later they will both come back on at a different resolution and then immediately go blank again. This goes on until the DVI connector is pulled. It goes through many different combinations of settings. I think (a dangerous thing) that for some reason the MB and external monitor can't resolve the proper settings and so just goes into a loop of check and reset. My question, is it possible to set a default setting for any external monitor connected so that the two will sync? I have a 1.8 G5 connected also and it has no problems although it is a different situation.

    Hi,
I sometimes have problems with my KVM switch too. I have a Dell E172FP Monitor.
In certain scenarios when I change from my PC to Mini the resolution goes to pot. The way I get round it is to do the following :
    1. Go to system preferences
    2. Go to Displays
    3. Click 'detect displays'
It then restores the screen to the proper resolution. It's a bit of a pain. It's almost as though the mac forgets what is connected to it and defaults to facory settings or something.
What KVM switch are you using? I've got a Belkin. Maybe it's got something to do with that too.
    Hope this offers some help.

  • KVM switch and Mavericks don't play well together

I upgraded to Mavericks yesterday, and started having this very annoying problem with my KVM switch, which used to work fine with Mountain Lion. I've been using this KVM switch for my mac mini and PC, in order to share my keyboard and mouse, very stably for several months.
Basically, when switching back and forth, there is a chance that ALL the peripheral devices would stop working in Mavericks. This includes my apple bluetooth keyboard and the magic touchpad, which are not related with USB (or maybe the bluetooth chip is still hooked up via USB inside).
For some reason, screen sharing stops working too, althought the IP I was trying to connect to was the ethernet port.
If I try to do a shutdown -r now via SSH, the system tries to shut itself down, but would get stuck with a spinning animation on the screen.
There is nothing in the system log, no error message.
My KVM switch is an IOGear GCS42UW6. Connected USB devices are: Apple USB keyboard and Logitech G500 mouse.

10.8 worked well with my Mac Mini (2009) connected to IOGEAR KVM model GCS1108. My mouse is from Redmond and the keyboard is a Goldtouch.
Mavericks has a problem with my KVM switch as well. It seems to be a USB problem.
Case 1: The Mini's video is connected to the KVM switch -- mini DVI port to DVI. If the KVM USB cable (known good) is connected, the Mini chimes at boot but no grey Apple logo appears. LCD remains blank white. Boot does not progress.
Case 2: The Mini's video is connected to the KVM switch, as before. If the KVM USB cable is NOT connected, the Mini chimes at boot, the grey logo appears, and boot proceeds normally. Video is fine. I  then connect the KVM USB cable to the Mini and use keyboard and mouse. KVM switching works as expected.
If the KVM USB cable is NOT connected but a keyboard and mouse are connected directly to the Mini, the boot sequence is normal. Video works.
The problem is not the hardware, all of which worked well with 10.8 (Mountain Lion). I would downgrade if Apple made 10.8 available from the App Store.

  • KVM switch w/ usb i/o for keyboard mouse doesn't work [Solved]

    Edit:
This problem appears to have magically disapeared.  I'm still not sure why it happened or why it has ceased.
    Hello Everybody,
I'm not sure why this is happening, but I've got a KVM switch that used to get "automagically" detected as "a no-brand KVM switch" on boot-up that has ceased working.  I don't get this "no brand KVM switch" detected on boot-up anymore, but I can use the VGA part of the switch, at least, however the keyboard and mouse don't work unless plugged directly into the computer.
Below I've attached the result of
    dmesg | grep --context=3 usb
    dmesg | grep kvm
    returns no result.
The most signifcant thing seems to be:
usb 1-2: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 7
    usb 1-2: device descriptor read/64, error -71
    usb 1-2: device descriptor read/64, error -71
usb 1-2: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 8
    usb 1-2: device descriptor read/64, error -71
    usb 1-2: device descriptor read/64, error -71
usb 1-2: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 9
usb 1-2: device not accepting address 9, error -71
usb 1-2: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 10
usb 1-2: device not accepting address 10, error -71
hub 1-0:1.0: unable to enumerate USB device on port 2
I've googled this, and somewhere it was suggested this mean the usb device is not drawing power.  The only thing that has happened that I can imagine as being the culprit between function/dysfunction here is that there was a power outage (circuit breaker tripped), and though my computers were on battery-backup, the monitor is not.  I don't suppose that this could have messed up the switch?
Note this problem is uniform across 3 computers, 2 which have recently run a system update, but the 3rd has not recently run an update, this is not an Xorg problem, "K and M" don't work in either console or X.
Any help would be appreciated.  Below as, mentioned previously, is the output of
    dmesg | grep --context=3 usb
included on the off-chance that someone sees something significant there.

i'm sorry, but this is all software related then. if you haven't already, run disk utility a few times to try to correct the error. otherwise, you should back up your info immediately if you can. if you can access another mac you can do that with firewire target disk mode. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58583. the other mac has to have built-in firewire. then you can try to repair the directory with a third party utility like diskwarrior or techtool pro. if it cannot solve the problem, or if you do not want to spend the money on the software, you have no choice but to erase and install your operating system. do you already have your info backed up?? it's always a good idea. keep us posted as to how it's going for you or if you have any further questions. • Belkin Flip KVM Switch and Blue Screen

G5 Dual 2ghz, clean install of Leopard.
I have a dual head video card, attached to the DVI port is a 22" monitor connected via DVI, on the ADC port I have ADC to VGA adaptor which a Belkin "Flip" KVM switch is attached, leading to a 17" monitor.
On booting I get to the point when the Finder should be loading and get a blue screen on both monitors, the monitors both periodically do a fade from black as though the system has just tried to change video resolution. However this loop continues.
If I remove the KVM and have the 17" plugged in, boot up is fine. This set up worked fine with 10.4x.
    Any suggestions.
    Thanks

Zork, have you cracked this problem yet?
I have a similar item - Belkin's Switch2 for Mac mini - and I get the same halting at the blue screen. Belkin UK's 2nd line support failed to replicate this error and replaced my device with the one that they used. It failed as well on my system (which works fine without the Switch2!).
In case it helps, a dig in the logs showed the following fault repeating itself presumably while the screen stayed blue:

  • How to use a KVM switch with a Pavillion 23

I have a Pavillion 23, and it has no VGA port, but it does have a USB port.
I have another machine that is not an all in one pc, and I was hoping to use a KVM switch to use the Pavillion 23's video monitor capabilites, and just toggle between it and my other machine. I have a USB to VGA converter. Can this work? Will this create some sort of infinate loop? I have a sneaking suspicion that I need a 2nd usb to VGA converter. Am I right?

    Hi,
This will be the out port, not in port therefore you can't use the 23" monitor.
    Regards.

  • A discussion of DVI KVM Switches

    Hi Gang
I have an APPLE Cinema Display 20" LCD A1081 MONITOR with two Power Mac G5's.
    I researched DVI KVM switches, and tried out an Iogear Model GCS1762;
    http://www.iogear.com/product/GCS1762/
With DVI, (as opposed to VGA), there is a neccessity for a 'hand shake' between computers, as it tries to figure out what to do. The Iogear doesn't connect instantly, consequently producing glitches, lines, video noise for a few seconds before it clears up when toggling back n forth.
Gefen on the other hand, apparently realizing this issue came out with something called a DVI detective; http://www.gefen.com/kvm/dproduct.jsp?prod_id=4714
    They also make a (probably better) switch;
    http://www.gefen.com/kvm/dproduct.jsp?prod_id=5040
Has anyone had any experience with either of these?
    Thanx
    Mike

I've gone thru several between work (2 offices) and home and after using different models and having them die or exhibit difficulties with new larger monitors, I've been happy with the Belkin KVMs that I've had for the last couple years. But I foresee a possible problem with the wireless part. I think you'd better put out a call for reports on success/foibles using a KVM and wireless mouse/keyboard. What I'm not sure about is how the computer will react to losing contact with wireless and then getting it back again.

  • Recommendations for DVI KVM Switches?

I wish to share the same USB wireless keyboard/mouse, and monitor between my Macbook and PC.
Has anyone tried this with a DVI KVM switch, and can you recommend which one to use? They're a little pricey, so I'd like to get comments from actual users if possible...
    Thanks
