MSi HD 7790 2GB restart/reboot issues

Hi, new member here.
I'm at my wits end with this one, so if anybody can help much appreciated.
Had this card only several days and all was fine. But now when I have to restart the computer, the monitor stays on stand-by and the pc freezes with no beep, until I press the reset button on the tower. After that it boots absolutely fine and loads into windows. In windows itself, the card runs fine, rock solid stable and great performance.
I've tried changing the different dvi ports on back of the card, but still the same.
Specs:-
AMD Phenom II X4 955
Biostar TA970 Motherboard latest BIOS
8GB Corsair Vengence DDR3-1333MHz RAM
MSi HD 7790 2GB VRAM (Catalyst 13.9 WHQL)
OCZ ZT Series 650W PSU
Windows 7 SP1 x64
Everything stock clock speeds and voltages.

Hello,
Having the same issue with similar hardware.  PC will boot cold and shutdown like it should but restarting most of the time causes the system to hang with no video but the fans run and MB LED's are still lit.  Pressing the reset causes the video to restore and POST and a normal boot.  I tried an old video card to eliminate a video card problem but it does the same thing.  Here is the hardware I'm running, I just built it today.
MSI 970A-G45
AMD Phenom II x4 955 BE (not OC)
MSI AMD Radeon 6770 1GB DDR5 (Not OC)
Kingston  HyperX Blue 4GB DDR3 PN:KHX1333C9D3B1/4G
LiteON 24x DVDRW (SATA)
WD Caviar Blue 6.0GB/S 250GB HDD
Cooler Master Extreme Power plus 500W PSU
I would post CPU-Z stats but I cant figure out how to attach images. help?
Areamike,
To adjust the command rate you have to go into the overclock tab and go into advanced DRAM config.  If I can remember right you may have to adjust another setting away from AUTO to be able to access this menu.  (i would be able to tell you for sure but I cant look at BIOS and be on the forum typing at the same time.lol)  After having this problem I read a lot of reviews with people having trouble with this board, hopefully its just a setup problem for us.

  • MSI 970A-G45 reboot issues

Just did an upgrade to my PC.
    Running the following:
    MSI 970A-G45
Athlon Phenom X4 955 at Stock speeds(used from previous rig)
    Corsair Vengeance 8GB PC12800 DDR3 1600MHz at Stock speeds(new)
    XFX Radeon HD 6870 1GB GDDR5(new)
OCZ 120GB SOLID 3 SERIES SATA III 2.5 Hard Drive
Sony DVDRW 24x(used from previous rig)
BFG 550W PSU(used from previous rig)
    Windows 7 64bit Ultimate
Here's the issue. Sometimes when I restart the PC, it never comes back up. It goes down like normal, then I have no video signal and it just sits there. It's doesn't happen all the time though, which is perplexing. When it does not come back up, I can simply hit the reset button and then it starts to boot up. Apparently it has all the latest BIOS and drivers according to MSI Live update. So at this point I have no idea what to try in order to get this thing to restart normally every time. I guess I shouldn't be too concerned considering I don't reboot a lot...?...?
P.S. I am not overclocking anything. Processor and RAM are running at stock speeds.
P.S.S. I do have two USB hard drives hooked up. Could one or both of them be causing the random reboot issue?
P.S.S.S. Although I mentioned the USB drives, I never had this reboot issue prior to upgrading to this motherboard, video card and ram.
    THANKS!

  • MSI X79A GD-45 - Random Locking / Rebooting Issues

    Hi,
    I recently upgraded my old P45 chipset Q6600 16GB Hyper-V home lab server, with a nice X79A GD-45 Board, with an i3820 & 64GB of Ram.
I've installed the system with Windows 2012, however I can't seem to get it stable.
I have a basic AMD 4550 graphics card in the server, and Dual Port HP360T nic, 2 x LSI Raid Controllers, I have tried removing all of this, but still get the same issues.
I have the latest BIOS updates from the MSI website.
I found that switching the ACPI power settings to C6 in the BIOS improved the stability but it hasn't resolved the problem completely.
I have my memory running @ 1333Mhz, as I've seen some people mention that trying to run 8x8GB @ 1600Mhz can cause problems, but that makes no difference.
I've tried running with 32GB of Ram rather than 64GB but same issues.
The strange thing is the PC doesn't blue screen, it sort of hangs, i.e. Windows 2012 goes un responsive, however I can still move the mouse cursor around, just nothing works, other times it just reboot's itself, and I get unexpected shutdown messages in the event logs.
Do I have a dogdy m/board, or is there some other secret to getting the X79 boards stable, my old Q6600 on intel P45 chipset was like a rock, longest uptime was over 250 days without a reboot..
    Thanks,
    Andy.

    Hi,
Just to let you all know that i think I had two issues in the end, the MSI commander software causing random reboots of Windows 2012, and also an old casecom 500w PSU that was causing the strange partial hangs.
Removing MSI commander software and setting FAN control directly in BIOS stopped the random reboots, however I was still getting problems with partial crashes for example Hyper-V VM's still running but windows desktop would go unresponsive etc.. and also issues with occasional HD corruption.
Since replacing the PSU the partial lockups / crashing have gone away, and I've had no more instances of corruption, server stable now for 80hrs+ without a reboot or weird partial hang :-)
In addition moving to a new 80+ platinum PSU has seen the power draw to run the system drop from 38-40% of the capacity of my UPS down to 17-18% so I've halved the amount of electricity that my server uses when on 24/7, from about 200-250w down to less than 100w, just the saving of approx 2.4Kwh a day (equates to about £0.30 a day) so across the year the PSU will have paid for itself !

  • Black screen when MSI driver is installed (MSI R9 270X 2GB )

Bought new computer and everything worked fine until couple of days ago ..
    can pull some info ..
        Windows 7 Ultimate x64
        AMD 8350FX 8-core
        ASUS Sabertooth 990FX R2
        MSI R9 270X 2GB GDDR5
        8GB 1866MHz RAM
        120gb SSD Kingston HyperX
Everything worked fine even with the drivers that are there now but one day the screen started to fluttering and act strangely then windows crashes. I rebooted then when I want to log in or when the login page will show I only got black screen...
Reboot again ... go into " safe mode " ... screen works with standard VGA ... uninstall the drivers for the MSI card ( msi.com ) ... restart ... everything works .
However, it goes on the standard VGA but as soon as I install the drivers, I get the same problem ....
    What has happened?
Got NO clue right now .. drivers worked before , I haven't updated them since I installed them (3weeks ago) I have not done anything that I can think of ..
    Are grateful for answers!

I have the same problem. Updated driver to 13.11 beta was running my  MSI 2GB r9 270x for 3 days got it on the 24th and today after a system reboot the windows screen appears to load then goes to black. I started safe mode, uninstalled the ati graphics drivers, rebooted and windows booted fine. Reinstalled the lastest 13.12 driver and rebooted to the black screen again.
    Specs:
    Board: P7P55D Asus
PSU: Cooler Master Silent Pro M850 @ 850 W output SINGLE 12V channel at 66A
    VCard: R9 270x MSI 2G
    Proccessor: intel i5 750 @ 2.66 GHZ
Did not overclock the video card or touch the voltages, tried VBIOS updates to fixed the screen flicker and it worked find the flicker dissapeared after the this new black screen problem happened i reverted back to the stock VBIOS the card shipped with(saved it before i updated it) reverting to the stock VBIOS didnt fix the problem only removing the driver fixes the problem, any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks for your time,

  • MBP automatic restart/reboot everyday.

I left my MBP on every night to download movies and applications . Sometimes it can last through the night without restarting/rebooting , sometimes when i wake up to see it is at the startup login screen , which means my MBP has restarted/logged out. I started leaving my MBP overnight recently and realised this error. Two days ago, i left it to download stuff and when i woke up in the morning, it was restarted and my battery life is still at 30% . Today morning , it was restarted as well with 48% battery.
Under Energy Saver, i unticked "sleep disk(s) when possible" ,ticked the rest and set duration for disk to sleep to "NEVER". Under Schedule, nothing is ticked.
It is just weird because even when sometimes i plugged in the AC adapter throughout the night, it restarts too. Also, in order not to allow the computer to auto restart, i did not allow automatic updates.
Is there any way i can solve this issue ? is it more of a hardware or software issue ?
I would want to leave my computer on for as long as possible without it switching off .
PS: i am using Leopard OSX 10.6.4 , should i update to the latest 10.6.7?
    Thanks alot!

  • [BIOS REQUEST] MSI 270X Hawk 2GB

Hi! I have a problem with a newly purchased MSI 270X Hawk 2GB. I have tried it in the following PCs:
    PC 1
    Main Board: Asrock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3
    Bios Version: 2.30 (newest)
Video Card: MSI 270X Hawk 2GB
    PSU: FSP ATX-400PNF
    12v rail Rating of listed PSU: 12V1: 18A, 12V2: 18A
    CPU: Intel Core i5-2500K 3.3GHz
    Memory: 2 x KINGSTON 8GB HyperX XMP Blu DDR3 1600MHz CL9 [KHX1600C9D3B1K2/8GX]
SSD: Samsung 830 64GB (Tried with a Samsung HD502HJ HDD too, on a fresh Windows 7 install, same results)
CPU COOLER: Cooler Master Hyper TX2
    OC: No
Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64 bit
    PC 2
    Main Board: Gigabyte G41M-ES2L
    Bios Version: F3
Video Card: MSI 270X Hawk 2GB
    PSU: FSP ATX-350PNF
    12v rail Rating of listed PSU: 12V1: 18A, 12V2: 16A
    CPU: Intel Pentium E5300 2.6GHz
    Memory: 2 x 2GB Kingmax DDR2 1066MHz [KLEE88F-B8NU6]
    SSD/ HDD: Samsung HD321KJ
    CPU COOLER: stock
    OC: No
Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64 bit
    GPU S/N: 602-V303-02SB1312000115
It works with the default windows driver in both PCs, but when the AMD driver is installed it fails after the windows welcome screen. Sometimes the screen turns blue, sometimes black/grey, and sometimes there are blue squares in lines on the screen and the PC freezes up. To get it to work again I have to boot into safe mode and remove the driver with Display Driver Uninstaller, since the normal uninstaller doesnt work in safe mode.
    Drivers I tried:
    13-12_win7_win8_64_dd_ccc_whql
    amd_catalyst_14.1_betav1.6
MSI Graphics Driver (both from the CD and the website)
Tried with both BIOS modes. Tried in both PCI-E slots in the asrock board. The 6 pin power connectors are split between the two rails.
I also have an MSI 270X Gaming 2GB, and it works in both PCs without issues. The previous owner updated the BIOS on that one.
I know that the PSUs are far from optimal, but they had no problems with the 270X Gaming on full load or my previous GTX275, even when I overclocked the CPU and had 4/5 hard drives in there. The PSU upgrade (XFX Pro 850W) is on its way, but it is still around a week or more until it arrives.
    Here is the current bios:

I would like to try flashing the newest bios to see if it helps.
    Thanks in advance.

Both come up with: "File does not exist on this server"
None the less >>this<< is the latest
    TV303MH.131 is normal vbios, TV303MH.141 is LN2
Create a bootable usb stick (https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=165175.0).
Then unpack the previously provided archive (131_141.rar) and put the included file (TV303MH.131 or TV303MH.141) on that stick.
Rename TV303MH.131 / TV303MH.141 to 131.rom / 141.rom. Put the atiflash.exe also included in the archive on the USB stick too. Now boot from the stick.
Type atiflash -p -f -noaper 0 131.rom (or 141.rom) [ENTER] and let it flash the vbios.

  • MSI didn't fix the temp issue

MSI didn't fix the temperature issue for AMD 64 processors. I'm sure.
    For people who didn't read my previous posts;
MSI claims in BIOS 1.4 (for the MSI K8N Neo Platinum) that they fixed the problem that the CPU gets (for example) 54 degrees idle and 74 degrees load.
They didn't. They just made up a fake solution.
    Here are my arguments.
    - When I start my computer, after a cold long night in which the computer was turned off, I see 42 degrees for my CPU in the BIOS. This is when I go DIRECTLY to the BIOS in the POST. 42 degrees? That is impossible. The temperature in my room is around 20. It can't get so high so fast. My Northbridge is 21. In the old BIOS 1.3 it was the same; when you started your computer the BIOS showed temperatures like 52 etc.
    - When my computer has started Windows XP, I start Core Center. There I see my CPU temperature. It is 39 degrees for my CPU. Ridiculous. My old AMD XP 1800+ started with a minimum of 29 when Windows started. After that the 1800+ increased to 48 degrees.
But ok, when I use the trick which some people used in BIOS 1.3 to get true readings (restarting their computer with a soft boot), I see 34 degrees for my CPU. This reading is the only true reading. Isn't it weird that when I have my computer turned on for about 4 hours, with whole the time readings like 42 degrees idle, and I restart, I just get 34 degrees... WITHOUT fluctuating temperatures to hell and back...
My conclusion is that MSI just made something up like '74-20 = 54 degrees in load and 62-20 = 42 degrees idle'.
Also, the temperatures are fluctuating to hell and back. It goes from 58 degrees in load to 54 to 50... Whatever...
This board is great, but this problem really, really  s u c k s. FIX this. We have the right of correct temperature readings. We spend money for it.
    Regards,
    Me

We are users helping each other. If you must speak with an MSI tech you can always contact them from the MSI main page. Oh and it is not likely they will answer if you attack them the way you are writing in this forum. Now would I for that matter.
I do agree that some in this thread have crossed the line and need to watch it   .

Yes there can stilkl be temp issues especially with the newcastle core CPU's. The new Bios is still a work in progress. There are a lot of combinations they need to work out. But if you contact MSI with a complaint in a cival manner and let them know what experience you have you may even get a new beta bios to try and see if it will solve your issues. Or they may have other suggestions. However they can't fix stuff they are not aware are broken and most of the problems disappeared when they released 1.4. So let them know about what you have.
Been there done that.  They were responsive in the beginning.  Continued to send them very polite and factual updates as I tried new BIOS updates but have long since ceased to receive any response at all.  Again, I say I don't blame MSI.  Just want a fix.....

Oh yes and running these chips in the 50C+ range at full load is still within reason.
I reread the thread a few times, and I don't see where anyone is claiming that they feel like that's a problem, so I'm confused about the relevance of this statement .  The problem that's been mentioned here is that the temperature is being REPORTED at 50+C at IDLE load conditions when it obviously is NOT that hot.  Restart of the machine immediately then shows an IDLE temp of 30C.  Even though 30 seconds prior it showed 50C with just as low of a load since it was right after cold start?  THIS situation is NOT within reason....    And it's very repeatable, cause I see it every single day

  • I don't want Microsoft Word to automatically launch when I restart/reboot

    Hi All,
Microsoft Word application automatically launches when I restart/reboot the iMac. How can I fix this?
    Smells like a virus...

    Hi ctconnor;
Since there are no virus for OS X, I seriously doubt that is what is causing your problem here.
My suggestion open System Preferences then Accounts followed by Login Items. Once there deselect Microsnot Word.

  • Firefox 3.6.23 having freezing and rebooting issues with Adobe Flash Player 11 Plugin

Firefox 3.6.23 is experiencing constant freezing and rebooting issues with Adobe Flash Player 11 Plugin, not sure if it is a conflict issue or not.
Since the update there had been no reported issues till today when the blue screen came up on me, this issue prior to plug in 11 had occurred at least 6 times, this issue only happens on firefox.
I do not wish to update since recent firefox browsers seem to have a lot of ongoing issues.

    Anyone able to help please?
    Thanks.

  • ODI Agent after Restarting/Rebooting Server

    Hi All,
How can ODI Agent executes after we Restart/Reboot our Servers?
    Thanks,
    Randy

If you are using Windows machine then you can set up ODI Agents as Windows Services .
Metalink Note 423712.1 can be helpful in this case .
Once the ODI Agents is running as Windows Services , you can specify the service startup type as Automatic.
So when your windows server gets restarted , ODI agent service will also start.
If you are using Unix based system then create a script that contains the agent.sh/agentscheduler.sh
    Specify all required parameter .
Then get in touch with your system admin and place the script inside the folder
which contains all the start-up scripts .

Just been on live chat as we are fed up of freezing up, random reboots and failed recordings. Usually happens on Gold, Sky Sports - the non freeview channels. Advice from Geetesh was factory reset thus losing existing recordings, stating rather optimistically that this 'will resolve the problem'. When pushed on freezing and failed recordings issue Geetesh said recording of 'internet channels is in a test phase so won't be able to record'?? But we have recorded on gold, fox for example - response is that it won't always work, only for some customers.
The advisor was getting confused. The bit about recording broadband channels still being in test phase only applies to BT Youview boxes. The recording functionality has been available for broadband channels on the BT Vision+ boxes since they launched last January.
To answer the original question. The occasional freezes and reboots are caused by the New Look software (possibly in conjunction with associated system changes on the BT servers). Many of us had years of trouble free viewing using the Classic software on the same black BT Vision+ boxes. It was only when we were upgraded to the New Look software that all the troubles began. If however, you are getting such problems many times per day, or even many times per hour that could indicate a hardware fault.

  • MSI Z87-G45 reboot issue

I build a gaming system based on a MSI Z87-G45 motherboard. Everyting is working fine with windows 8.1.
I can boot, shutdown, suspend, ... but i can't reboot. When I reboot, from os or from bios, my screens go to black and the fans continue spinning. The computer do not reboot. Never. I have to press the power button for 4s, and the once more in order to manualy reboot.
I'm running the 1.9 bios with stock settings. All my drivers are up-to-date (dowloaded from the product support page). I think that the problem is bios related since I can't reboot properly from it. Oh yes. I've got the A2 code.
I tried different settings like to set the wake options from os and so but it didn't work.
And I've got a RM750 psu and i'm not drawing so much power out of it.
    Any ideas?

I had chosen to update the 1.9 bios with M-Flash but I hadn't chosen the bios+me option. Now i've done it and it works. No me driver reinstall needed.

  • Z87-GD65 Reboot Issue

I've been having a bit of a strange issue with my new board (Z87-GD65) since installing it. Anytime I perform a reboot, the computer will stayed powered on as it normally should, however the display will disconnect and not display on the monitor. This is the case even outside of Windows (as I first discovered it when rebooting before installing Windows on it at all). The computer will turn on and display video normally when turned on from being completely powered off, however when doing so from a reboot, my monitor displays a "no signal" message, and displays nothing. This continues to happen when switching between the two DVI ports on my card (even when switching them in the middle of the issue).
Again, this only happens when restarting the computer, whether from inside of Windows or not. The result is that I end up having to do a hard shut down, and turn back on the computer.
I have flashed my BIOS with the most up to date version, and I have not tried any over clocking yet, so short of the BIOS flash, all of the settings are on their defaults.
    Hardware Used:
    Z87-GD65 Board
    Intel Core i5 4590S
    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti
Corsair Vengeance Pro Series RAM, 2x4 GB DDR3 2400MHz
    Seagate 2GB SSHD
    Corsair GS800 800W PSU
Using On Board Audio, NIC, and USB
If it matters, or if it comes down to it being a power issue oddly enough, I'm also using an after market cooling system for my CPU.
Thanks to ANYONE who has any ideas as to what may be causing this.

I have exactly this issue, when I try and restart the screen shuts down and the pc keeps the powerbutton on..it just sort of hang with fans on.
There's no issue when it starts 'manually by clicking the startbutton'.
I updated the bios like different websites suggest, and like you did. I lean toward trying a new powersupply now since thats the only old thing left in my pc. Everything else is completely new.
This post was great inspiration on what to do to fix it.. however seeing that it didnt work for you I'm abit discouraged to be honest.
Maybe some of you have suggestions to what can be tried to fix it. What I tried :
    - (my husband) Trying different settings. I cant recall them, i'm not that technical (then returning settings in the end to default, since the only reaction I got was the computer refusing to start my win7.)
    - I have the newest driver for my 1150 board (ver. 1.20). Flashed it from an usb as the guide said.
Did you get your issue fixed?
Specs for my pc, appologies if it's lacking, typed what I understood.
    Board MSI Z87M GAMING
    VGA Geforce GTX 760
    Intel core i7 4790 CPU 3,6GHz
    Bios 1.20 AMI OEM
    HDD Samsung 120 SSD SATA600
HDD Samsung 500 SSD SATA 600
    RAM Kingston 16GB DIMM DDR3
    Windows 7 Ultimate 6.01.7601
Mine was never fixed. :/ After the last BIOS flash suggested in this forum, it won't even come on from a shut down, even with a brand new board (swapped it after I thought that update bricked it).
I was thinking the PSU, I just don't have another one to test and I know it worked fine in the old build. This whole thing has been a disaster.
