MSI INTEL 945GZ mobo & Pentium D 820

hi guys
I've been trying to find out if the  MSI INTEL 945GZ mobo(M2-F and M3 models) supports Intel's Pentium D 820 (2.8GHz) cpu.
for both models (gzm3 and gzm2-f) the status for the Pentium D 820 (2.8GHz) is "none"- does that mean it doesnt support this CPU?
thanx

Pentium D 945 (3.4GHz) and Pentium D 915 (2.8GHz) are "ok"
the others are "none"....

I guess I'll just have to see for myself when the new pc arrives...
thanks

  • Update on Pentium D 930 + MSI P6N SLi Mobo

A short time ago I was searching this forum for information concerning the compatibility of the Pentium D 930 processor with the MSI P6N Sli Mobo. It seems that this processor was not officially supported for this board. A few helpful people offered the opinion that they would likely work just fine together. I just wanted to get back to you guys and say thank you again, that turned out to be exactly the case.  :D
After an embarrassing no-post situation caused by the leftover mounting  spacers from my old board (which used 12) to my present board (which uses 9), everything went smoothly. Acronis with Universal restore allowed me to regenerate my operating system. After a lengthy update of drivers the computer was up and running smoothly and with a entirely welcome but somewhat puzzling difference. Whereas the old board (D945PVS) consistently provided an environment in which the CPU ran at 50°+ C (?!) and had transient temperatures as high as 58 - 59° C with an ambient 20° C, the new set up consistently ran below 40°. These results were consistent no matter what type of thermal pastes were used, be they my homebrewed colloidal silver in silicone stopco*k  grease or Arctic Silver.  (that's hilarious... the anti-obscenity software interpreted a fully normal English language word as obscenity)
    Well, whatever the reason....sweet.
I have only attempted simpleminded overclocking as the options are somewhat limited by the processor. With the frequency for the GPU locked at 100 MHz, simply adjusting the FSB to 1000 raised the apparent speed of the CPU to 3.75 GHz, up from the stock frequency of 3 GHz. An attempt to set the front side bus at 1060 resulted in a non-bootable system so back to 1000 it went.
I have not adjusted any of the system voltages. So far I have not stress tested this other than to simply use the computer for several hours. No apparent problems yet. The system temperatures have remained between 38 and 40° C in an ambient 20°C environment.
The only thing that nags at me, and I'm fairly sure that this is of no importance is the fact that in device manager the CPUs show yellow exclamation marks and in properties I see a message saying that certain drivers failed to load for the CPU and that other software may be taking their place. Well, whatever this actually means, it has had no detectable impact on system performance or reliability.

    Hiya flobelix
If by manually updating the drivers you mean by left clicking on them in device manager and selecting update --> search online, then yes, I did. I do not have the exact verbiage but the resultant error message was something to the effect that the drivers had installed but failed to start and something else may be taking their place.
Driver magician fails to detect that any cpu drivers are missing. Same with online testing services such as PC pitstop. | have done a cursory search using Google to find people with similar problems but I have not as of yet seen this EXACT problem.

  • MSI 865gm3-ls mobo worries

    Hi peeps
I have a MSI 865gm3-ls mobo and I've just installed 2GB of ram.  Now BIOS recognised the memory thats fitted but windows only recognises 1GB in the system settings.  Can anyone suggest anything else.  I'm running a pentium 4 processor @2.66 ghz with a NVidia 7600GS GFX card

Quote from: scottymotty on 06-August-07, 01:07:37
I've got to do a reinstall of windows sometime this month anyway so it might be because I only had 1 gig (2*512) when I installed windows earlier this year.  Thanks for your help anyway.
    you are welcome.

  • P45 Neo3-FR and Pentium D 820

Hi. I'm going to upgrade my PC step-by-step and the first thing i wish to change is motherboard. I decided to buy something on p45 chipset, may be - p45 neo3-fr. But my processor is Pentium D 820 rev. B0, and i'm not sure will it work or not. Please help who knows surely! My processor is not in the list of compatible processors with this motherboards, but many people says 'sure, it will work!', because fsb 800mhz is supported and in p35 this processor was officially supported. i think the difference between p35 and p45 is not so big, and pentium D will work with p45...
p.s. i'm russian, but in official russian MSI forum nobody knows, so i hope here someone will help me)
p.p.s. sorry if there are mistakes in the text, my english is not perfect))

    Hello,

Here are the official CPU Support List for the two P45 Neo3-FR Mainboards (PCB v1.0 and PCB v2.0):
    http://global.msi.eu/index.php?func=prodcpu2&prod_no=1611&maincat_no=1&orderby=cpu_name%20ASC#menu
    http://global.msi.eu/index.php?func=prodcpu2&prod_no=1634&maincat_no=1&orderby=cpu_name%20ASC#menu
As you can see, none of them can support the Pentium D 820 processor.

  • Best DDR Module for MSI K7N2/K7N2G mobos...help

    Hi,
i am thinking in buying new DDR modules for my PC, and not generic ones, i mean high performance, low latency, ready to overclock modules. And i was thinking in buying PC3200 or PC3500 modules.
So, could you share your experience with me about high performance (CL2) DDR modules out there and the MSI K7N2/K7N2G mobos.
    Feel free to post.
    Bye.

getting quality memory is a must with these new power hungry boards.
I use both Mushkin 3200 Black low latency 2x512 in 2 machines.
I also use 2x 512 XMS Corsair 3200LL and they are equal but I favor mushkin for absolutly no problems, stable, fast.
With anything you get what you pay for.

  • Recommend me a PSU for MSI K8n SLi Mobo

I recently purchased a MSi K8n SLi Mobo with a X800XL GFX Card and was sold a Hiper 425 PSU, after getting everthing home a built it has come to my attention that to make the onboard sound work, that Pin 20 on the PSU must be -5. The PSU that was sold to me does not carry this pin 20 -5V.
Can somebody please recomend me a PSU that will have this -5V pin at Postion 20
    Thanks for any Help

But I see that you have an ATI video card? Does that mean that you have no plans to actually use the SLI component? This makes a big difference since one card requires much less power.
I was lucky enough t have won my GFX Card, but i do plan on eventually going SLi

  • New MSI 980-G65 Mobo?

Does anyone know if we will see a New or updated MSI 980-G65 Mobo with the latest Bios available in stores or online anytime soon?

You have to ask MSI about this: >>How to contact MSI.<<

  • MSI 745 Ultra mobo and XP 2400+ cpu problem

Well I just bought an Athlon XP 2400+ cpu as an upgrade for this computer. I am having a hard time getting it to work properly. My setup is as follows:
MSI 745 Ultra mobo (BIOS 1.6 and tried 1.5)
    AMD Athlon XP 2400+
    Samsung pc2700 memory (2x256meg sticks)
Asylum Geforce 4 Ti4600 video card
    Unknown 10/100 nic
    Maxtor 30gig HD
The first problem was, the XP 2400+ cpu was auto detected as an 1800+ running at 1.5ghz. I looked on the MSI cpu support page and it said to set the BIOS settings to 133 for the CPU FSB and 15 for the CPU Ratio. I did this (using 1.6 bios version) and the system would not boot. After some struggling I was able to get into the BIOS again. I messed with different Ratio's to lower the operating speed of the cpu. It turned out that anything I tried with the 133 FSB setting would hang the system. I looked in MSI knowledge base, it has my exact same problems listed and the recommended fix is to "upgrade" to BIOS 1.5. So, for kicks I downgraded my 1.6 BIOS to the 1.5 version. I still had the same exact problems, however, one different. When the FSB was set at 133 and Ratio at 15, for some reason the system booted but set the FSB back to 100 and the Ratio to 20 (which is not even an option in the bios). I found this information using Wincpuid once the system was booted. I really would like to get this cpu working as it should and be found as an Athlon 2400+ running at 2.0ghz. Anyone have any ideas?
Could the power supply be at fault at all? It's just a generic PS that came with the case. Maybe the 2400+ needs more power to run at the higher clock speed and FSB? My other thought is the memory. Something related to the ram maybe? TIA.
    Justin

Ok the trick is to do *not* as the MSI cpu support webpage says. The support webpage says to set the CPU FSB to 133 and the CPU Ratio (multiplier) to 15. My system would not boot this way. I set the FSB to 133 and the ratio to "H/W" and it works perfectly fine.

  • Faulty MSI Intel P35 Platinum motherboard

Hi i am building new pc but i seem to have problem with MSI Motherboard.
    My PC Specs as follows:
Ocz Game Xstream 600w Power Supply
    MSI Intel P35 Platinum motherboard
    Intel E6750 Processor
MSI Nvidia 8800GT NX 512mb ddr
    Geil Ultra DDR2 2.0GB PC6400 Dual Channel memory kit (2 x 1GB) 800MHz (4-4-4-12) +Aluminium heat spreader
500GB Seagate Barracuda SATA II 300 7200rpm 16mb cache Hard Drive oem
    COOLERMASTER case
Now i put everything in place and connect the power supply to the motherboard, however it wouldn't start. I know many of you will say PSU is faulty but its not, i already been on OCZ forums and i have done all the tests including jump start and it works 100%. However when i take off  2 - 4 pin CPU1 and CPU2 connector from motherboard, The pc starts but no sceen, when i put them on the pc won't start. I took it to PC repair shop to have all parts tested, they said motherboard is not working. Did any1else had a same problem, if not please help me resolve this issue. THanks.

I had a problem with my original P35 where the CPU fan control didn't work.  Fan would spin, but it never registered speed.  CPU would get to 70c at idle.  Got a replacement MB and fan speed registered and temp was at about 30c @ idle.
RMA the motherboard.  Depending on where you got it from you'll be up and running in 10 days.
OH!!!! VERY IMPORTANT.  Do NOT reuse the heatsink compound which is now on the CPU and the heatsink.  Scrape it off both, use Isopropyl Alcohol to clean the residue off both.  After you get your new MB, apply NEW compound to the top of the CPU.  Then seat the heatsink on.

I recently bought the MSI G45M-FD motherboard from amazon.com. It has Intel ICH10R controller, BIOS version is V1.1. I used 1 PATA drive for system and 4 SATA seagate 1.5TB HDDs, RAID mode = AHCI in BIOS.
I installed Windows XP SP1 and the latest Intel® Matrix Storage Manager (iata87enu.exe). After installing Matrix Storage Manager, Windows Xp can see SATA drives.
I would like to configure the ICH10R controller into RAID5 array. Unfortunately, there is no Ctrl-I message during BIOS loading, and the "Intel option ROM" can not be launched >:(.
My user guide says that I have to enable the RAID function in BIOS but actually there is no way to disable or enable the RAID mode in BIOS. I can see only two options for RAID:
    1. SATA controller (enabled|disabled)=enabled
    2. RAID mode (IDE|AHCI)=AHCI
Does anybody have have the same motherboard? Do you see Ctrl-I invitation? Do you know how to turn "Intel option ROM" on?
Update: Problem solved: I just ordered wrong mobo model. global.msi.com.tw has confusing information about G45M.

What makes you think this board has ICH10R?  Surely there would be a -FDR if it had ICH10R?
Your board does not have RAID sorry.
I just realized it. What a big mistake!
