MSI K7D / K7D-L and tekram SCSI card

Anyone get the above combination to work?
I've tried a Tekram DC390F in a K7D Master and a DC395UW in a K7D-L Maater and both times I've had to remove the Tekram BIOS chip to get the motherboards to boot.
Anyone know if the Award BIOS on the K7D/-L Master contains code to control a SCSI card (in particular NCR or Symbios chip based cards)
Cheers
phich

this is very interesting.  i have a Tekram DC-390U3W in my main workstation and bought an LSI U160 for this server.  When I realized the Tekram could run at 66mhz, I thought I'd move it over to the server and use the LSI in my Abit board instead.
COULD NOT, for ANYTHING, get the Tekram to work in my new K7D Master.  Interestingly, the LSI works just fine, but the weird thing is, they have the EXACT same controller chip - 53C1010.  Doesn't make any sense to me, but finally I just gave up.
if you made any headway on this, I'd love to hear about it.

  • G4 and PCI-SCSI card

I recently bought a second hand PowerMac G4 with an adaptec 2903B scsi PCI card in it. I reinstalled it with OS10.3.9. I have not been able to detect any SCSI devices yet. Am I missing a driver ? No drivers for the 2903B on the Adaptec website... I'm using it with OSX, but would like to use it also in OS9 with the MESA software for my AKAI S2000 sampler.

Adaptec or who ever made the RAID software would have the driver for OS 9. I don't have Classic/OS9 installed on my computer. I don't rember whether all drivers appear in the extensions folder.
I'll check with Adaptec, myself, and let you know.
Are you sure the card is a 2903 and not a 2930?

  • Problems with msi k8n neo-2 and xfx 6800 card

is this card incompatible with the msi k8n neo-2 motherboard?
i ve got this mobo last week and when i tried to install the card to it nothing comes on screen, no beeps or nothing, ive changed the power supply, the card works fine on my old pc with both power supplies (old pc was 2500+ amd with epox 8rda+) i ve tried booting up with nothing else connected on the psu except the card itself, it still doesnt seem to work, the new motherboard works fine with my old radeon 9600 pro.
    What can i do?

Thats not what I read (assuming this is the same correct model)

Agreed that one is 420W, but is that it or not?

  • P6N SLI Won't boot from SCSI card

I have a P6N SLI motherboard with a SCSI card I'm trying to boot from. The BIOS sees the card (as indicated by the BIOS when "Quick Booting" is disabled), however, it doesn't run the option ROM on the card necessary for it to boot from the SCSI card. I've tried several different SCSI cards (BusLogic, LSI, QLogic, Adaptec) and using a couple different video cards, one of them PCI. The only things I have plugged into the board are the video card and the SCSI card. Nothing seems to work. Am I missing an option in the BIOS or something?
    Thanks, Mark.

Did you ever try with devices attached to the SCSI card?  After all, what you want to boot from in the end is a SCSI drive.  Try hooking up a SCSI drive to the card, otherwise it is hard to tell if there even is a problem at all.
On the board I am using for example, the Intel ICH7DH RAID BIOS is only executed if there is more than one SATA drive hooked up to the ports hosted by the controller.
That RAID BIOS has hooks into the system BIOS so it knows whether to initialize itself or not. How a SCSI card works is by having a boot ROM which scans the SCSI chain to determine drives. My use in all this is to have my system boot from my SAN. I'm using a QLogic 2300 for this purpose - and yes, it is connected into the SAN. However, as I said, it doesn't matter what if any devices are connected. The system BIOS MUST execute the option ROM on the card before the system even KNOWS there are SCSI devices to boot from. I'm not even getting as far as that. the option ROM never executes.
Maybe I'm not explaining myself well and my use of "option ROM" needs explaining further. When you power on a system you'll see the following in order:
    1. Memory detection and count.
    2. IDE/SATA scan.
    3. BIOS looks for external cards and option ROMs, if they exist, are executed (SCSI in this case). You see this stage when you see something like "Adaptec 2940 BIOS v xx.xx - Press Ctrl-A to enter settings" or something like that. Next you'll see a listing of devices connected to that card, SCSI devices in this case - assuming you have any plugged in.
    4. After POST status screen - displays CPU, memory, any serial/parallel/USB IO configured and all devices initialized by the system BIOS and their assigned IRQs.
    5. System BIOS loads and runs the boot sector on the configured boot device. If any option ROMs have hooked themselves into interrupt 0x13 (option ROM boot interrupt), i.e. SCSI, then a SCSI boot device is used.
My problem is that step 3 is skipped. My system goes straight from step 2 to step 4. Without the option ROM being called by the system BIOS, there's no chance of any SCSI device being used as a boot device.
A good explanation of what an option ROM can be found at:

  • MSI K7D master L and Linux

I just recently got a K7D master L and I have been doing some research on the mainboard while waiting for the ECC DDR memmory to arrive.  During my research, I found a series of messages to the kernel.org mailing list that concerned a 'southbridge' problem with the K7D when using a USB/serial mouse instead of a PS/2 mouse ( I only have USB mice now, but i do have the little green adapter to make them PS/2 )
My question regards the progress in correcting the issue(s), which i understand is(are) an AMD 760 MPX problem.
Is there a patch or BIOS update that can work around or correct this issue in the works?
    -sb

Looks like I may have found my answer here in the AMD errata.

Multiprocessor System May Hang While in FULL APIC Mode and IOAPIC Interrupt is Masked
    Products Affected. B1, B2
Normal Specified Operation. The AMD-768 peripheral bus controller is designed to support FULL APIC mode in multiprocessor systems for system management events. If an interrupt is masked in the APIC controller of the AMD-768, then the corresponding interrupt message should not be sent to the processor via the 3-wire APIC bus.
Non-conformance. The AMD-768 peripheral bus controller will send an interrupt message via the 3-wire
APIC bus regardless if the interrupt is masked or not.
Potential Effect on System. Since the processor had previously masked the APIC interrupt, it is not
expecting to receive future APIC messages for the masked interrupt. The APIC controller will continuously send the interrupt message via the 3-wire bus until a processor accepts the message, causing the system to hang.
A system hang has been observed when executing a server shutdown command in Novell Netware versions 5.0 or 5.1 while using a serial mouse. During the server shutdown sequence, software writes an invalid CPU ID to the IOAPIC redirection table, and the system does not complete the shutdown.
Note:[/i] No failure has been observed when using a PS/2 mouse.
    Suggested Workaround. None.
    Resolution Status: No fix planned.

  • Adding Tekram DC-390U2W SCSI card to G4 350

Hi all, i'm sorting trough some old parts and found my old Tekram DC-390U2W SCSI card from my PC, and thought that is might speed my (amazingly responsive) G4 350. Googling around i see there are drivers for this model for FreeBSD and NetBSD.
Will the Mac OS X 10.2.8 support this SCSI card oob, or should i install drivers, and what flavour (FreeBSD/NetBSD) to use?
    thanks
    Joris

    Hi-
SCSI support in 10.2+ was improved over earlier OS X, but still lacking. Use of a driver could possibly be necessary.
As for which one, all I could see were Windows or Linux versions....use of a Mac specific driver from another manufacturer could also be a possibility.
I would try the card without drivers, and hope the native drivers will allow the card to be seen/function.

  • [VIA] MSI KT3 Ultra-ARU and a MSI FX5900XT 128MB DDR Video Card

Does any body out there know if a MSI KT3 Ultra-ARU and a MSI FX5900XT 128MB DDR Video Card will work well together?

like the grayone say, is true. for more ensure, try and search the graphic cards support list for your board at MSI (Sorry cause i don,t no is  where the site located)
in my opinion, most is compability for your card, when is a AGP slot.
Except the new one like the AGP slot, call AGR( Accelaration Graphic Riser slot) that really need to find a compatibility graphic cards.....

  • OS 10.4.9 and SCSI card

Recently I installed OS 10.4 and prior to installation had to remove the SCSI card (wouldn't boot up off of disk with card in place). After removing the card installation was no problem. I tried a USB card but "Sleep" no longer works. Now that I have the system installed, do you think there will still be a conflict if I reinstall the SCSI card (use it for ZIP drive back up)either in operation or possible problems with update installations?
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Glen

    Allan,
The SCSI card is Adaptec, AVA 2906(I think this is the model #). It was installed when I bought my computer years ago. I don't have any more info on it, other than what I find on the card. When I had problems with installation, I looked here in discussions and found some peripheral info on others with trouble having SCSI cards installed, that is how I decided to try removing it before installation. I thought the USB card would be the answer but as mentioned, trouble with that also.
    Thanks,
    Glen

  • Will Beige G3 SCSI card and drive work in a BW G3?

My wife's G3Tower died with data on the scsi hd. I've picked up a bw G3 (which on the serial # tag states Ultra2 SCSI), but no scsi drive is inside, nor is there a scsi card.
Can I take the SCSI card and drive out of the Beige Tower and put it in to the BW G3? Is anything special needed to be able to get the needed files off the disk?
I later plan to upgrade to Jaguar (I've got the disks), but the files come first.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
ps - I looked through Apple's faqs and kb, but didn't really find anything.
    Regards,
    Den

"Can I take the SCSI card and drive out of the Beige Tower and put it in to the BW G3? Is anything special needed to be able to get the needed files off the disk?"
You can do that, but bootability will be a problem because the B&W G3 is based on the New World architecture or ROM-in-RAM. While the beige G3's ROM was wholly contained in the ROM card, some of the B&W's ROM code is contained in the Mac OS ROM file, which is written to the System Folder during the OS installation. The OS installation performed on the beige G3 won't have the necessary Mac OS ROM file. The file could be extracted from the installer tome on the Mac OS 9.x installer CD, but that would require the use of TomeViewer (downloadable utility). Do you have another working Mac in the house? Incidentally, what component in the beige G3 failed?

  • Could You Please Recommend a DLT and SCSI Card

    Hi,
I've checked the forums thoroughly to see what DLT drives are best, and I'm considering buying a Compaq External 15/30 Gb DLT Tape Back-Up Drive from Ebay UK, but I can't find the ATTO SCSI card that is highly recommended.
All the SCSI cards on Ebay UK are for Adaptec - which most of these threads say to avoid.
I checked Ebay USA and although there are a few, I don't know which one would be right for this drive.
I only want the drive for submitting DVD9 projects to a replicator so I assume I don't need a DLT drive any larger than the 15GB on offer. But is there any drive I would be better off buying other than the one I have mentioned?
Can't find the 7000 series that so many people use.
    I'm using a Mac G4 867Mhz PowerPC and I have DVDSP 2.

Instead of a SCSI card, i use a Belkin SCSI to Firewire adapter that works great. I think they have become pretty hard to find, but i think Ratoc makes one that could work.
A quick ebay search for ATTO SCSI revealed many items compatible with your mac that ship world wide. Check Atto website for compatibility.

  • Msi 651 and tv@nywhere card with CRAPPY sound

I have a msi 651 and tv@nywhere card.  I have the sound running from the tv card to the mic. in card on the motherboard.  The sound is very tinny and hollow and sounds like garbage.  Also whenever I start the program I have to manually open my volume control and turn up the volume of the wave.  any suggestions?

In front of the CDAudioIn connector there is another "aux" connector called CN16 (or was it CN13?) This "aux" audio connector is a TVAudio connector. If your TVCard has an internal AudioOutput connector, you only have to connect the TVCard with the TVAudioInput (CN16) using a standard CDAudio cable. Else, you have to build a cable with a CDAudio connector on one side and a 3.5 stereo connector on the other side.
See the 651 MoBo scheme in the 651 manual to get more information about how to locate this CN16(TVAudioInput) connector

  • MSI mobos and ATI graphics card incompability!

I don´t know how well known this problem is but I´ve seen it on this forum and when googling the internet you can find it!
The issue is that I can´t get my HD5450(Sapphire) to work on my MS-7267 (945GCM5-F V2) mobo! The screen stays blank but the PC boots up and loads Windows.
The HD5450 works fine on other mobos with different PSU´s ranging from 350 - 600 watts, but when trying different PSU´s on the 945GCM5-F V2 it doesn´t seem to help. I´ve also tried different bios settings, I´ve cleared CMOS, I´ve tried both dvi and vga outputs, I´ve disconnected as much as possible from the mobo except from the graphics card and the PSU, but nothing seems to help!
    Any ideas , someone?
    Tekrar!

    Thanks for all replies!
I had this question on the AMD forum (AMD Game » AMD Technology » Radeon Graphics » MSI mobos and ATI graphics card incompability!) and here are some of the replies:
"Well, its a known issue that older chipsets, like even AMD 580X chipset, doesn't work with 5k/6k series cards without a bios update from the manufacturer of the board.
If its not working / posting / no video ect... You need to bug MSI to update the bios on the board to support the newer 5k/6k video cards. It may or may not happen. Several manufacturers have like Asus, and Gigabyte."
"Same problem. 5450, MSI MS-7267 (945GCM5-F V2). Done the same plus updated msi mainboard bios using msi live update 5 etc. Waiting for reply from makers of graphics card and mainboard.
I should add from what I've read in other threads and forums it seems to be an old mainboard problem not just related to the MSI 945GCM5-F V2. Some other manufacturers of mainboards have sent customers bios upgrades to get their cards working.
As for your pci express version question. Well these problems seem to emerge when people have plugged these pci express version 2.1 cards into their pci express 1st generation slots. What exactly the problem is here? Leave that for manufacturers/experts to answer."
"Tek , its hit or miss on the board + chipset combination on if the card will work or not. Sometimes they will work in old boards, Sometimes they will not w/o manufacturerer support.
Its completely random from what I've seen on the forums at the times they were released , when people with old boards were asking why it wasn't working. And what they did to solve it. Most all of them emailed the manufacturer. Some of those said manufactureres provided beta bios back to the customers, some said your out of luck."
Its true, this MSI MS-7267 (945GCM5-F V2) isn´t a new mobo, but when I get the 5450 to work without problem with an even older fujitsu mobo (last bios update long time ago) and a 350 watts PSU I think something´s wrong.
So, a bios upgrade would probably fix it if the manufacturer (in this case MSI) just wanted to!

  • D1000 and SCSI Card

I have a D1000. It used to plug in to my 220r but now I want to use it with Fedora Core 1. Will this PCI SCSI Card

Work with the D1000? Educated guesses would help :)

    Hello,
the AHA-2944 is indeed HVD SCSI, but there are no drivers available for Solaris. Get the SYM22802 either from Sun or Symbios Logic.

  • Symbios SCSI card working/not working with KT4

Excuse me while I blow off some steam first... AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHH HHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks, that helped. Now I can talk rationally (well, as rationally as I'm able to at 12.30 A.M. after spending a full afternoon with my head inside a computer case). I took my home theater computer to MSI when the KT3 UltraARU came, and since then it has been a sometimes tense, but most of the time good relationship, with a bunch of sound cards and a jump to the KT4. Then I got tired of having the KT4 Ultra version without built in LAN, so I found out I could use the one I had in my server (where I don't need that many PCI cards so I can use a PCI network card). And today the wonder arrived: one KT4 Ultra FISR (or something like that - gigabit lan, firewire, bluetooth ready and serial ATA RAID), plus a brand new AMD XP2600 Plus with a 333 bus for 166 FSB. And I took great care mounting it, for once tidying up all cables, securing good airflow and even cutting two blowholes in the top for good measure, since I knew that the 2600 runs a bit hotter than my old 1800. Then in with all the cards I had used on the former KT4 (from the top: Radeon 9500, Audigy Platinum EX, Live! Value, Pinnacle PCTV Rave, one free PCI slot and finally a ultra SCSI card at the bottom), and I was ready to go. Or so I thought... So what happened? Wel, everything seemed to fire up at first, but it got stuck on the green LEDs on 1 & 3, which should be where the graphics card starts to send messages to the screen. And it got stuck. And stuck. And even after a full BIOS reset (just in case somebody had tested this board and made a wrong setting) it got stuck the same place.
So on to the usual suspects, then. First the memory. Out with the new stick and in with the one I used in the predecessor, which had been working earlier today. No change. OK, then it had to be the CPU. Out with the 2600 and in with the 1800. Nothing. So it had to be the graphics card, then. Out with the 9500, in wich an older ATI Radeon VE. Nothing. But since I'm methodical I simply cursed at the wife and kids, kicked the dog and relieved myself in the neighbours flower bed before I started the next phaze. And I got a hit on the first attempt. As soon as the SCSI card was out, everything functioned. I got into the BIOS, changed everything to what it should be and restarted the PC. Worked like a charm. I even had my two harddisks on the IDE 3, like I have told you before. No problems there. So in with the SCSI card, and nothing.
I know this card works, or at least that it was working earlier today. And nothing had happened that should damage it. So this weekend, when I change mobo in my server (if I do that tomorrow my wife will call a divorce lawyer - one night inside a PC is barely tolerable, two nights in a row is marital suicide!) I'll test it on the "old" KT4 again. My bet is that it works. What can this be? The only difference I was able to see between the boards (except for the firewire and gigabit lan) was that it had a newer BIOS. I think I was on 1.1 on the former KT4 while this arrived with 1.2. Can this be it? I thought BIOS upgrades were to fix problems, not introduce new ones...
Can anybody give me a pointer here? I'd really appreciate it since this SCSI card runs the DVD ROM inside my home theater, and it would be a full retreat to even think about having to open the door to the server room to change DVDs!  8)

    Mastiff,
If you limit your troubleshooting options, then you were limiting the chance for solving your problem.   The diff slot suggestion is still opened for you.
    4. Take out all other PCI slots, let only SCSI card alone.
You only need to make sure it can BOOT right? Don't worry about messing up Windows configuration of your PCI cards. Just put them back if you've tried all possible slot configurations.

  • No Boot-Up with Adaptec SCSI Card

Over the weekend I have built a new PC using an MSI  MS6758 875P NEO Motherboard with an MSI FX5600 TD256 Graphics Card.
The CPU is an Intel 3.0 gig P4
The system has 2Gb of 400DDR Memory, a Seagate SATA 150 160Gb Hard Drive and a Western Digital 20Gb ATA Hard Drive and an MRI Connexant Modem.
The system also has a Sony 3.5 Floppy Drive, a Sony DVD Re-Writer and a TDK CD Re-Writer.
The OS is Windows XP Professional.
The system as configured above works fine, the problem starts when I attach my Adaptec AHA-2940U2W SCSI Card which has a Hewlett Packard HP C1533 DDS2 Tape Drive attached to it.
When the card is attached the system goes through the Boot-Up procedure, it finds the Floppy Drive, the Hard Drives, the CD-Rom, and DVD Drive, it then finds the SCSI Card and the Tape Drive, then the SATA Controller and then the Boot-up hangs.  If I remove the SCSI Card it Boots up fine.
I have altered the IRQ address on the SCSI Card but this made no difference. The default address for the Card is IRQ 7.
I have configured IRQ 7 on the Motherboard BIOS to ISE/EISA and this made no difference either.
I have tried the SCSI Card in each of the PCI Slots and still will not Boot.
I have replaced the Card and Tape Drive back into the system it came out of and it works fine.
    Has anybody had this experience?

The firmware update must be done from MS-DOS (bootable floppy). The firmware update & utility will fit on a bootable floppy. You probably will need to apply the update using a different PC (not MSI Neo2). After you are finished, you will see the Adaptec BIOS shows a date of 2000. Once complete, you can boot from the Adaptec SCSI card and there is no need to disable the SCSI BIOS. I have running (booted from) the machine I'm using to type this.
