MSI K7N2G-LISR Vcore-problems! Anyone?

Hi!
I just bought my new MB the other day. But it won't start if I raise the voltage at the Vcore!!
My CPU is a T-bred XP2100+, 512 MB Twinmos PC3200, and Thermaltake Volcano 7+ (w/modified fan).
I tested these parts at another MB, and reached 2,25 Ghz at 1,775 volt.
However, the MSI-card won't start when I modify the voltage at the vcore. I tried with only 1,625 V and it wouldn't start. The pc and all the fans start up, but the screen i all black.
Can anyone please help me with this one?

well well... I returned the board back to my supplier and got the money back. Won't risk my warranty by volt-modding my card.
I've had these MSI-cards:
K7Pro2a
K7Turbo-R
K7Pro266-R
KT3 Ultra-ARU
K7N2G-LISR
But this time I change to Asus, Epox or Abit.
My T-bred Xp2100+ is running at normal speed, aposed to xp2900+ speed with an increase in the voltage at the Abit NF7-S. It's really a shame that MSI has this problem. I've always liked MSI cards due to their bundles, and full of specifications.
Their lack of Extreme overclocking possibillities has never bothered me, as their little tweaking advantages have been enough for me. But this time... it's just to little..
To bad MSI..

  • MSI K7N2G-L & hardisk problem

I have problem with WD 40 GB harddrive on MSI K7N2G-L board.
BIOS is not able to detect this HDD (i tryed everything, master, slave, combinations...), but on another computer, this harddisk going without problems !!!
Is it "incompatible" disk ??? Because when i used older WD 20 GB on MSI K7N2G-L, disk work without problem.
I dont understand... i flashed lastest bios (3.2).
    Sorry for my english.

    Hi,
I have the same problem.  I upgraded an existing computer by replacing the MB, CPU and RAM.  The primary master is a WD 40GB 7,200 rpm drive, the primary slave is a Maxtor 15 GB.  The Secondary master is a DVD and the secondary slave is a Teac CD-RW.  The original computer works fine with the drives jumpered and cabled as is.  When I put in the K7N2-L, on boot up the BIOS won\'t detect any drives, the BIOS just hangs up.  When I remove power cord from the WD the BIOS detects all other drives. I tried just having the WD as sole HD and jumpered to be only HD but same thing.  I also tried WD as only HD and cable select, same problem.  When I put old MB back in the computer boots okay so I don't belive it's the jumper settings or cables. Suggestions?

  • First time computer builder - using K7N2G-LISR

    Here is my story:
I am a first time part by part computer builder, I have installed every product except a CPU and Motherboard seperately.  This was my first time buying each part on its own and assembling it myself though.
The parts I am using are:
    MSI K7N2G-LISR motherboard
    Athlon XP 2400
512 MB 2700 DDR Corsair XMS Ram
40 GB Western Digital 7200 RPM HD
    Sony 32x CD-Ron
    Integrated Graphics
    400W Power Supply
    Vantec Aeroflow heatsink
I had some trouble installing the heatsink.  I had both paste and thermal pads, since it was my first time doing this and thermal pads seemed alot easier, I tried out one of them.  I continued putting the PC together and everything was working just fine.
I got to the BIOS and messed around with the settings a bit.  I realized I accidently set my HD as slave to the CD-Rom.  I also set it to High Performance, and allocated 128 MB of ram to the onboard graphics.  Before exiting out of the bios, I checked my CPU temp and it was a whopping 64C/148F.  After I powered down, I fixed my HD/CD-Rom to the proper settings, and took off my heatsink.
I removed what was left of the thermal pad and scraped as much away as I could.  I then put a little layer of thermal paste on top of the CPU using the credit card method.  I had a little trouble putting the heatsink back on, using its side clip.
The computer refuses to boot up at all now.
The diagnostic lights will vary depending on what settings I have, between:
    (R= Red, G= Green)
    R G
    R R
    (Memory Detection Test)
I don't know how long it is supposed to sit there, but I gave it a minute.  This was the first hang-up I encountered.  I had two sticks of 256 MB so I alternated between the two sticks in different DIMMs, but nothing worked.
After screwing around and putting the original settings back (with the HD/CD-Rom) I got this message:
    G G
    G R
    (Testing Real Time Clock)
It hung there for a while too.
I left the HD/CD-Rom configuration, removed the ram, and got:
    R G
    R G
    (Testing base and extended memory)
    Again, it just sat.
No matter what I do, I can't seem to get past this stage.
    My question is this:
Did I fry my CPU?  If not, could you think of something else preventing me from starting up?

Well it's certainly possible that you did fry the CPU but I don't think so at this point...
    Do this:
    UNPLUG the machine
UNPLUG the MB from the PS
Ground yourself if possible otherwise make sure you have touched METAL on the case prior to unplugging it. And don't walk around on the carpet or shuffle your feet.
Set the HD on the Primary IDE as Single Drive/Master
Set the CDROM on the Secondary IDE as Single/Master
Take off your Heatsink and clean it really well and get ALL of the old goo off of it and the processor. Use Orange Clean as I've found it really does the best job. Put the paste (Arctic Silver II if you can get it) back on and install the fan/heatsink again.
Install 1 stick of memory in slot 3
    Plug in the Floppy
Plug in the system fans and the power hookups
Plug in the MB to the PSupply
Find the jumper to reset the CMOS/BIOS and set it to clear
wait the amount of time it says in the manual and set it back. sometimes you have to remove the battery to get it to reset so you might just do that first and then do the jumper
Plug in the PS and start up the system and see what happens.
If it doesn't start you may have fried any number of things in the machine so you'll have to start replacing them one by one to figure out what the problem is.
    Hope it works tho!! 8)

  • K7N2G.LISR internal graphics card not working

After building a new pc with msi k7n2g-lisr I can't play 3d games because after 10 seconds or less windows close the game and appears windows desktop.
I've installed an external video card and everithing works fine.
Does anybody know how can I use the internal video card?

    Hi Wonkanoby,
Thx for the link!  I am aware that also other people have had the same problem as I have not only with the Crucial but also with other RAM modules.
I did plan originally to get hold of 1 Gig's worth of Corsair as it looks most likely to work but it crossed my mind that I think it will not be a 100% stable system still  :(
Following this I contactd Crucial directly because I wanted to send the RAM back to them so I could be credited.  The employee had a word with the enginneer and he explained that Crucial could replace the module and give it another try as they were aware of a problem with the K7N2G-LISR board??  Looking on the paperwork that comes with the module it does say "Upgrade for a MSI (Micro Star) MS-6570 (K7N2G) system)".  I only mentioned that I had a K7N2G motherboard and there are all the other details there so it seems that even Crucial know about the problems with this m/b.  I took their word for it and would decide to give it a try in the hope I could finally sort this problem out but unfortunately it is the same problem  :(
The only thing we can wait for now is a strong BIOS update (see my post in the BIOS section) which will fix these problems with the NforceII chipset.  How long we will have to wait is another matter.  I for one cannot wait to long because I bought my board from E-buyer and their policy of RMA is 28 days or even shorter I think (cant quite remember).  I hope MSI can supply because the board is impressive if it did work.

  • MSI K7N2G-L nothing but problems!!!!

I've been trying to get my AMD 2700+ to run in my K7n2G-L for over a week now.  When I boot the CPU registers as a 1500+.  There are no multiplier settings on MSI's website for the 2700+ for this board so I just stepped back and used the 2600+ settings to be safe.  Then my board wouldn't post so I set the jumper to 100mhz and she posted again.  It will register as a 2700+ in Safe mode (100mhz).  But when I try to load an OS I get a BSOD.  I've RMAed my CPU and my memory now so its has to be this board.  Someone please help me out if you have any ideas! Thanks!

I'd look at the PSU that you're using for the system first...do Wonka's formula for checking total power on the 3 main voltages then if that isn't the problem I'd RMA the board...just doesn't seem like a MB problem tho...

Hi,i bought a K7N2G-ILSR last year when i was in Germany. This mainboard never worked as well... I wanted to work with Athlon XP 2500+ and Dual Channel 256MB+256MB=512MB 400 Mhz DDR-Ram. It hasn't worked when i first wanted to use and i changed the jumper to the securit mode than it worked but it has never opened with one button pushing.I was always trying to get screen vision with 3-5 closing and opening. One day i tried to get the jumper back and i tried to open but it never worked. I got the jumper securit again but again never worked. I tried everything but it never worked after that event. Normally i had to inform it at first and give it back or give it to the repairing but i couldn't have time. Now i have to do it this time. Now i want to change this or something else but in Turkey. I am living in Turkey and does MSI Support Centre change it or repair it? What can i do to get rid of this problem. Need help!

  • MSI K7N2G-ILSR onboard video initialization problems

Hi, today I replaced my wife's trusty Abit KT7 motherboard with a MSI K7N2G-ILSR.  I used the onboard video since she doesn't play games.  Everything seemed to be working fine until I went to boot it up. The computer started up as usual, but the monitor did not intialize like it should.  The message on the monitor said that " the monitor was working correctly and to check the cord or the computer."  I rechecked all of the connections and everything seemed to be installed correctly.  I thought that maybe there was something wrong with the onboard video, so I decided to install the Radeon 9000 that was in the old system.  To my suprise I received the same message when I started the computer up the second time.  I have built several systems and have never encountered a problem like this before.  I read the thread about problems with the Radeon cards, but no one mentions anything about problems with the onboard video.   I am using a Duron 750, Antec 330 watt PSU and 512 megs of Kingston Value Ram.  I know that several posters have recommended that nforce 2 users need a more pwerful PSU and better ram, but I have a hard time beleiving that those things would cause the video not to intilaize.  I would appreciate any feedback and/or suggestions because I need to make a desision about hwat to do with this board.  Thx.

Well I appreciate the replys.  I formated the harddrive before I installed the motherboard because I was worried that the via drivers would cause problems when I booted it up and installed Win XP.  Bonz, you are right, I am just guessing that everything is OK since I can hear the system start up, but I can't see anything since the video never intializes.  I rechecked all of the connections and even took the motherboard out and reinstalled the cpu, memory and motherboard and the same thing happened.  I started thinking something was wrong with the monitor so I unplugged the monitor from my system, which I know works, and it did the same thing.  I just wish I could get the video to intialize so I could see to get into the bios to look around.  I will check the jumpers on the board and continue to mess around with it.  I would appreciate any feedback I can get.  Thx again.

  • MSI K7N2G-L Rebootalizing.... :(

I was playing Counter-Strike with my clan tonight, and all of the sudden my computer rebootalizes, and then I get the real fast (so fast I can't read it) blue screen....  So I reset the CMOS, and no problems so far, I haven't tried gaming yet...  This isn't the first time this has happened either.....  It's really irritating when I'm trying to play a CAL match and then the computer rebootalizes...  Here are my SPECS:
    MSI K7N2G-L
    AMD Athlon-2700+ 2.167GHZ
    Kingston KVR400X64C3A/512 512MB DDR400 PC3200 CL3 DIMM 3-3-3 Memory
    BFG Technologies:GeForce FX5600 Ultra
    SBLIVE!
P.S. The last time these reboots were happening were before I got my video card and was using some 32 MB thing...  So I'm pretty sure its not the video card...  Well the video card is brand new, so positive, the card works like a gem....  I'm leaning more towards memory on this one...  Does anyone have any suggestions on what kinda memory I should go with....  I looked on the Kingston site for my board, it says it doesn't support my board anymore...  So I was wondering what memory would work stable on my system...  Corsair, GeiL, *KingstoN* Please get back to me quickly, my computer seems fine now, but I'm pretty sure its the memory...
    PaceY

This is my case, the power supply is the one it came with....  Heres the link...
I looked at my System information in accessories in Windows XP Pro, and it says this...  I goto hardware resources and it says that on IRQ 19 my Creative SB Live! Value (WDM).  Idk what that means but oh well.....  Tell me if thats good or not...  K now heres the link to my case...  http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=142804

  • MSI K7N2G Dead ?

    Hello,
I recently bought a N2G Mainboard together with a 2400+ boxed CPU. Now i've got the following problem.
The 2nd time I switched it on it doesn't do a thing except beeping, on the D-bracket it says lights 1 and 3 are red, which means RTC testing. Now the funny part is when I unplug my floppy cable it says only light 2 green meaning CPU is broke or not properly inserted. Below a list of my hardware which was attached to the system.
    - MSI K7N2G
    - AMD 2400+ Boxed
    - 3x 512mb VT DDR Memory PC2100
    - AOpen 300watt power supply
I used the onboard graphic adapter and also tried a seperate one but no change in the failure.  ;(
I also checked the CPU to see if it had green stuff coming out of the core, but none there
    All input welcome,
    Thanks

    Hi Guys,
    Thanks for your help.
I bought a new PSU with 550watts, enough power to run my complete house on. This didn't solve the problem tho, but I discovered what was wrong.
I must have made a change to the BIOS regarding the FSB. I switched the (FSB) jumper to 100Mhz on the mainboard. Switched my PC back on and it worked.
Now I went to the BIOS and made sure it was on 133Mhz and saved it again. Switched back the jumper to 133Mhz and switched it back on. My machine was working again. Funny thingy tho is that clearing your BIOS with the jumper didn't change a thing.
Anyways... A new problem i'm facing now regarding my onboard VGA or my Memory. Without installing the nVidia drivers it runs fine.. Really quick and made me happy. Now after installing the drivers my PC shows now and a then blue screens.
Every thing is default, no overclocking or what so ever
    I'm using ...
    3x VT 512 DDR PC2100 16 chip 32M x 8 Gold
    1x Adaptec 29160
    2x 36.7GB 15k IBM HDD's
    BIOS version 3.2
That's all what is in there.
    Anyone ?
    Thanks!

  • When will a new BIOS for K7N2G-LISR be released

Anyone have any idea when a new BIOS for the K7N2G-LISR will be released or if a new beta bios is available :D

I have a BIOS bug for MSI.
I can't disable the tv-out function.  Therefore I can't watch any DVD's.  I have to take out my G3 to enable me to adjust the onboard GFX settings and there is no option to disable tv-out as described in the manual.
I have emailed MSI and their tech support are either extremely busy or completely useless like their software.
This is completely driving me up the fecking wall!!!
I love MSI hardware but I have to avoid any MSI software like the plague... unfortunately the BIOS is unavoidable.
MSI, please sort this or I will be forced to return my hardware and look for another brand.  I'm considering ABIT so be warned.
Could we draw up a list of bugs to give to MSI so we can try and get them sorted?
Sorry for the ranting, but theres not much I can do.  :(

Hi all! While Muse is a very intuitive program to get to grips with, one feature that I see lacking is the ability to use the 'Alt +Scroll wheel' zoom command. I use this in Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator and I am a little confused as to why it
