MSI K7T266 Pro-RU

I am using a Msi K7T266 Pro-Ru m.b.  I do not seem to be able to install windows Xp on this system.
When I make a primary partition and boot Xp from Cd windows set up starts loading and after about 60 s the screen turns black with a flashing cursor!
On the same partition it is not a problem to install W98se.
I flashed the Bios in order for the mb to recognize my Athlon 2000(version 07.00T/11/30/2001).
Other hardware: 3D prophet 8500 LE/128 Mb
A open 52 speed CD Rom
A open 300 Watt voeding
WD 153 BA(7200 rpm)
256 Mb Dane Elec DDR (PC2100).
Anyone an idea?
Hans.

Memory seems okee, someone suggested that the VGA adapter is the problem, si I am going to find out.
One problem remains: my motherboard doesnot seem to be able to hold the year; time and date is okay, but after one day, I find for example 2007, the next 2001 ans so one?
Is this a known phenomena?
Hans.

    Hi!
Really, I don't think this could be a hardware problem since WinXp takes more than few minutes to install, and you did it, then you installed drivers and SP1. Why did you format HD in the other PC ? I would try a new install, taking out all not necesary stuff, leaving only CPU, memory and video card and formatting again the HD. for a clean install; then go adding the other hardware one by one, installing it's drivers and rebooting each time. Finally before connecting to internet enable Firewall to prevent Blaster Worm ( Don't know if still is going around ). One thing: Be sure HD is well connected and configured: Master if is a slave conected to same wire..etc.- If again you get an error, I would look for a faulty HD.  8)

  • MSI K7T266 Pro restart hangup

I am setting up a computer for my sister here are the specs:
    1-1.3Ghz Duron CPU
    1- MSI K7T266 pro
    1- Maxtor 15gb drive
    1-40x cd Rom
    1-Soundblaster live

    1-350watt Pwr supply
    WinXP pro
Problem: works fine and boots from a complete power down but the restart feature locks up the computer and hangs without a feed to the monitor which goes to standby w/no signal. I check the specs on the ram I got and they check out on the recomended parts list. I am stumped? Any clue?? Prompt responses are greatly appreciated, I have to get this comp out of my life!!!
    thanks!

same here, comparable setup. The SBLive is notorious because of problems with the bus, but I don't think that is it. I had to flash back to version 3.3 of the bios before I could do a normal restart. All later bioses have this problem for me!

  • MSI K7T266 PRO 2 Upgrade problem

I have just upgraded the processor on my motherboard  which is an MSI K7T266 PRO 2 .  I was using an AMD Athlon XP 1700 which worked fine, I have now purchased an AMD Athlon XP 2400  with quanspeed architecture (operates at 2000mhz written on packet)  and this will not work with my board .  The board reports that the processor is faulty. Before I contact my retailer can you tell me if this model for any reason is not suitable for my motherboard.
    Can any one help?

Your board does not support XP2400+ T'bred CPU's unless modified. Unmodified it supports up to XP2100+ Palomino only. For details see here:- Link

  • MSI K7T266 Pro (MS-6380) with Athlon XP 2000+ Thoroughbred

...I used search, but I couldn't find anything compared to my problem... maybe someone can help me... ok... the problem...
My hardware: This is the motherboard I'm talking about (MSI K7T Pro (MS-6380)). And the processor is Athlon XP 2000+ Thoroughbred A.
This processor in not on the supported CPUs page. But someone told me then it is maybe still possible to get this motherboard and this CPU to run correctly. Maybe with a special BIOS update or something.
Does anyone knows something about that?

I agree that if it can run a 1.4 as far as power it should run a 2100+. It appears that the multiplier is there as it should support up to 15x. I think it would work as it is only another 66mhz, you might however have to use beta bios VA1.6 . My mb will recognise my cpu as a 2200+ when O/C high enough, but my MB only support 2100+ yet tables are there for supporting the cpu.
I think like most of the issues MSI knows that it can work but is worried for some reason or another of components being damaged so they will not officially support. It might only fail in 10% or maybe less of the cases but thats enought to stop MSI, Is that enough to stop you?
Than again it is only 66mHz I doubt you'd see the difference, Is it worth the trouble? I wouldn't chance it for 66mHz you could easily O/C to that speed, actually faster.
    Good luck

  • MSI K7t266 Pro 6380 MOBO

Ok you guys.  I just baught a new case for my computer and I transfered everything over!
The Main board is an MSI MS-6380 2.0
BIOS is American Megatrends Inc. 07.00T 11/30/2001
    AMD Athalon 1800+ proc
    1 gig mem
After the transfer....on first start up.  for reason the BIOS reset itself.  sinse then i have only been able to set the bus line at 100 instead of 133 *Thats its max is 133*
when it is at 133 *I have a duel boot system with Win 2000 and Win XP pro* Win 2000 goes to a blue screen at start up and WIN XP just locks up at its post screen and sometimes doesn't even make it that far.
The new case has a 400W power supply instead of a 300W and i added a new Proc fan rated up to a 3000+
The fan is running at normal speeds and the proc is quite cool at both 100 and 133
ALSO....when i change the multiplier at 100 or 133 I loose all Video to my monitor and have to reset the BIOS manually to get it all back up.
So i am stuck at 1.1 instead of 1.5 like its suppose to be!
I'm sad:(  Have you ever seen a 29 year old man thats A+ certified**Not that that means much!* cry???  My wife took pictures!!

Yes your right I should have included that on my signiture file i will be sure to update it!
    ALSO
Your correct again!  It was the PROC fan causing the problem.....now i have to figure out why it was the fan!?!
Thermaltake Volcano 11+ was the fan I used....according to the specs it should have worked fine for the proc.........oh well...its working now....
    Thanks for the suggestions....
    sorry to have irratated you!

  • K7T266 Pro R and Geforce 2 GTS problem

Hello everyone. I have been experiencing a problem for some time now regarding lockups and crashes caused by my video card, which vary in severity depending on the driver version used. Since I'm using an MSI K7T266 Pro Raid mobo (version 1) I thought I'd post my question here.
The exact problem depends on the driver version. Using any Nvidia Detonator drivers at version 40 or newer, my system becomes extremely unstable. On first booting everything seems fine, however if I try to open my Geforce display properties the Windows freezes during the redraw of the display properties window, which goes blank. Sometimes I can call up Close Programs Dialog, which shows DDHELP in the list, and [not responding]. I've never actually gotten an error message from DDHELP or any other error message -- perhaps the computer jams too hard for Windows to get one up. I've seen reports around the Net about DDHELP problems from things like DirectX 8.1, but they're never quite like my problem. The problem is identical on DirectX 8.0, 8.1, and on 9.0.
No matter what I try to do in Windows with these drivers installed, the computer will lock up in seconds. For example, if I then open IE 5.5, I might be able to get as far as a page or two before the similar thing happens: during the window redraw the computer locks up (usually with a blank or partially-redrawn window), sometimes causing the mouse to lock and sometimes not, and then if I can get the Close Program Dialog open DDHELP has appeared and is Not Responding.
The most stable driver version I've found so far is 29.42, which does not cause the lockup above and never causes DDHELP to appear. However, it is quite unstable as well, and causes Windows to lock up sporadically during 2D window redraws in various programs. For example, when calling up a Save Document dialog or when opening a pulldown menu the program will lock either before any of the redraw becomes visible on screen or when the new dialog box is "skeletal", only partially drawn. Sometimes the crash is severe enough that I have to do a cold restart on my system.
The other problem is that sporadically garbage blocks will appear in portions of my screen, like old windows and color bands popping up that do not refresh. This often happens to me in Photoshop 6, and happens usually when I'm scrolling down a window or something.
These problems with version 29.42 all appear to be 2d window-drawing related. I do not have any problems with 3d games with 29.42. However, the new reference drivers are so unstable on my system that I can't even try to open them.
With 29.42, the most stable drivers I've found so far, some kind of lockup due to redrawing windows almost always occurs within an hour (sometimes minutes) of booting up.
For what it's worth, dxdiag tests just fine.
I was hoping someone could help me figure out what's causing the trouble, what driver I should use, and how to resolve it. If possible, I'd really like to use the newer drivers as I've been told they're much faster. In any event, I hate having such an unstable system where lockups could occur at any moment!
Here's the lowdown of my system:
    -MSI K7T266 Pro Raid [1] mobo (MS-6380)
         AMIBIOS date: 5/1/2001

current drivers: Nvidia reference 29.42 (also 40+)

         BIOS version 2.15.01.14
    -Windows 98SE
-DirectX 9.0 (also tried 8.1 etc)
-Soundblaster Live! 5.1 on slot 3, drivers from 5/2002
    -Viewsonic PF790 monitor

-D drive is Raid 0 striped array, pair of 40gb 7200rpm
-Network Everywhere Fast Ethernet Adapter on slot 5
-no memory resident programs on loadup except for WinPoET, Explorer, Systray
If there's anything I've left out that could help, let me know!
    Thanks to anyone in advance,

  • [VIA] K7T266 PRO- RU motherboard: Windows XP on a RAID ARRAY (fasttrak100 LITE)

    Hi All!
    I have a
MSI  K7T266 PRO- RU motherboard, BIOS is the latest, official from MSI website,
Problem short description: Windows XP (sp1 or sp2 english, I tried both)
will not install when I set 2 x 40 Gig = ~80 Gig Stripe Array.
    detailed description:
motherboard K7T266 PRO- RU  BIOS 1.9 AMI BIOS.
AMD ATHLON XP 1700 + "Palomino" microprocessor, at default speeds.
one piece of 512 PC 3200 RAM, can tell details later.
    Power supply: 400 W CODEGEN model : 300X.
HDD-s : one IBM deskstar, fully functional, and a SEAGATE barracuda. seagate SEATOOLS, IBM DFT 32 no errors both.
I set in the FASTTRAK 100 LITE "PDC20276R" (written on the chip) bios a STRIPE array. Powerquest drive magic , or the Windows XP CD handles it fine , as a 80 gig disk.
I downloaded ALL available versions of the FASTTAK 100 LITE driver from the MSI website.
(only tried: MSI driver FASTTRAK 100 lite, the only available driver on the MSI website, and various drivers from www.promise.com) ( http://www.promise.com/support/download/download2_eng.asp?productId=15&category=driver&os=0&go=GO ) (but I guess they WONT support my raid controller on the motherboard)
Windows XP CD , booting, Press F6 for additional RAID /SCSI drivers, I put in the floppy, choose WinXP fasttrak lite driver, windows continues, even formatting the 80 GIG disk, copy files- access the FASTTRAK.SYS driver, EITHER it says: no fixed disk present, press F3 to exit windows setup, or windows setup continues, copies files, reboots, and then STOP ERROR
    http://www.martin555.dyndns.org/stop.jpg
please, help me with the following:
how to install XP on a raid array.
is it worth, will it be little bit faster disk load times etc?
is it secure if I trust the HDD-s?
any clue, how to overclock the AMD 1700+ athlon XP palomino to its maximum, but still stability?
AND : I read a lot about some MOD-ded BIOS called " KUNIBERT"  , which makes the LITE raid to a FULL RAID and some other extras? where to get it and what to do?
email me if you can    martin5   "at"   freemail.hu
    THANKS !

pardon me, dump? my english is not very perfect.. you mean to trow away, replace to something better, more stable power supply, more powerful?
you must see... first I would like to resolve the "installing XP on a raid array" problem,( how is it possible, is it worth, will it speed up hard disk access and load times... etc... ) and after that maybe I  will OC the machine...
it is now , with a 8 cm ventillator and a large aluminium cooler 39 Celsius IDLE and goes to 45 Celsius during EVEREST benchmarking test. (temperatures on 1700+ default setting and OC-'d to 1900+. just experiencing with it. ) (I saw the toms hardware guide movie , smoking processors..)
    cheers, Marton.

  • Problem with K7T266 pro, usb not working corectly!

    Have a problem here.
My MOMO racing wheel (USB) stops responding while playing games, but the wheel works fine on my friends comp. When i start a geme, i can play it for 30-60mins, and then it just stops responding, the lights on the wheel dont glow and it seems disconnected, my only help then is to restart my comp.
    And my specs are:
    MSI K7T266 pro
    AMD athlon 1,4Ghz
    Win98SE
I use the usb ports, that are in my mainboard.
Please answer if you know about the problem, or if you have expirianced something like that.

After killing my K7N2G-ILSR, ive had to revert to my backup K7T266 ProR system. While playing UT2K3 I had those freaking random disconnects of the USB which would kill the FPS and get me fragged, after which time it would happily reconnect and work fine. My optical mouse would also disconnect like that.
I am running XP Home, VIA 4.43. I set the BIOS to read only USB1 (which didnt work). Then I installed the VIA USB filter RC-1 and havent had a disconnect problem for over 24 hours now. Get the usb filter from MSI website and good luck!

Well hope you can help me!
Or is the mobo dead so i must send it back to the store where i bought it?
    Thanks for any help.
