MSI K8D Master PCI-X Question

Hi,
I was just wandering if anyone could tell me if the MSI K8D Master is compatible with any PCI-X 16 video cards.
Any information would be appreciated.

This is a server board, and server typically have no use for AGP or other fancy videostuff.
You are confusing PCI-E with the PCI-X that the board has.
PCI-X is an extended PCI slot that can do 64bit and 100MHz instead of the normal PCI being 32 Bit and max 66MHz.
This lifts the PCI speed from max 256MB/s to 1.2GB/s.
Raid controllers and very-fast network controller bennefit a lot from this.
Ergo, the K8D boards are for server use only.
If you want a big graphical workstation with 2 Opterons, it's the K8T Master board that you are looking for.
But it also doesn't have PCI-E as of yet.

  • MSI K8D Master-F MS-9131 and amd fx 51 socket 940

I am wondering if it is possible to run a AMD FX-51 socket 940 CPU on the MSI K8D Master-F MS-9131 socket 940 mother board?
If your wondering why i want to do this is because like many i got ripped off when AMD changed the socket and I want to use my CPU with this board because it has PCI Express.
So if there is a possibility of not trashing my CPU I will take it or maybe if there is another motherboard out there please info me me about it.
    Thanks for reading my post!

    OO thanks for quick replies.
I didnt catch the pci-x thing, good thing I asked before i bought that. Ill probly buy the board your sujested or just buy a iMac and burn my amd64 system to dust.
I curently have a SK8V from ASUS but I want to be able to play more of the latest games and you cant with AGP becuase AGP is crap, so thats why I want to get a pci express card.
But I think in the end I just gona have to understand I f.ed up by buying from AMD.
Besides my computer sounds like a vacume and I can do with out that.

  • MSI Pro266TD Master-L Stepping question

    Hello guys..
This is my first post here..
I have plans for to buy a Dual board for 2 pentium 3 that i got.
Are two (2) Pentiums 3 Coppermine 933mhz processors.
I'm interesting in this board :
    http://www.knowledgemicro.com/detail.php?p=MB-9105-02&c=pw
so do i need to know is if it true that i need that the 2 processor must be The SAME stepping???
    is this true????
    Thanx

Intel suggest no more than one stepping apart and have the lower stepping CPU in socket#1.
Still, it's best if they are prefectly matched.

  • K8D Master-F 9131 problem with BIOS 1.2 and Raidcore BC4852

The board does not start the Raidcore BIOS with motherboard 9131 BIOS 1.2 installed. It works OK wih BIOS 1.1.
Raidcore 4852 FW is V130. (tested V110 = same problem)
    Bios found here:
    http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/download/dld/spt_dld_detail.php?UID=441&kind=3
Both 1.1 and 1.2 BIOS was unable to recognise my Opteron 242 CPU steppings which indicate they are both quite old. Maybe MSI could fix these problems and include the newer CPU steppings like the ones for 250 CPUs. Bios 1.2 is dated nov. 28th 03 which is a year old. BUHU.
I am building a LARGE storage server based on this motherboard. Several others to come (planning on using the MSI K8D Master 3 -133 9161), but if MSI does not upgrade the BIOS for their high end boards I will start looking for another supplier real fast.
    Sincerely
    ArildS
    Norwegian Central Securities Depository

I'll stick with the V1.10, but I'd fell better if MSI showed me they actively update their systems by releasing updated BIOS files from time to time.
I can't sell a 15000$ storage system that doesn't recognise the CPUs installed. The customer would laugh and tell me to come back with a supported system.
Isn't this a VERY valid reason for wanting updates? Even if it only is an updated CPU list?
The only reason I tried this MSI board is that it was the only one available with my retailer at the time I bought it with 3 PCI-X 100Mhz slots. Maybe I should go with a Tyan Thunder next time. Tyan at least show some activity.

  • K8D Master-F High/Low beep tones

    Hello,
Running the system even on bare minimum (PSU, memory and CPUs only)  the board will not post and will only return a constant high then low tone beep code.  Information from AMIBIOS suggests faulty CPUs, but this is doubtful that both CPUs would be damaged (I've tried one at a time, and in different sockets), as their serial numbers are quite a distance apart.
Anything else I can try? or do I have a dead board?
    Thanks in advance,
    LJP

This board uses a SSI compliant PSU, its 24 pin main power, 8 pin additional power.  550W supply thats in it.

Couldn't tell you if its registered DDR, ram isnt the problem though, it would give a ram error beep code running with no ram onboard, yet it still has the high/low beeptones.

  • K8D Master-FT PCI / Riser Card Help

Ok, I have just taking my first venture into the true server class motherboard.  We chose the K8D Master-FT w/ a pair of opteron 240's.  I have ran into a few issues that I just can't seem to find any answers on.
    1.  We used a third-party case which didn't come with a riser card.  Do I need a PCI-X riser card or can I still use a 32bit riser.  Also once I have the correct riser card can I still use 32bit PCI devices on the riser?
    2.  Next if I only want to use one slot can I just use the PCI-X slot on the motherboard without a riser?  If so can I use a 32bit PCI card?
    Thanks a bunch in advance.

Ok.  Here are the details.  We get the system board in and we grab a rack case with the correct form factor.  Problem is the case didn't come with a riser card.  None the less we where under the same impression that we could stick a PCI or PCI-X card in the slot.  We only have a single card (RAID controller) which we intend to use.  When we insert the PCI (32-bit) raid card in the PCI-X slot the system won't boot.  We even tried inserting the card every which way we could in the slot thinking maybe we had inserted it wrong.  Still no luck.  Should our raid controller be 64 bit?  Also we did have some riser cards that came with some ATX form factor rack cases, but when inserted into the PCI-X slot, the card slots face oddly up the motherboard towards the I/O panel.  Thanks.

  • K8D Master 3-133 FA4R: deactivate VGA

    Hi,
is it possible to deactivate the onboard-VGA on a K8D Master 3-133 FA4R?
I've a PCI-VGA Card wich works like an IP-Extender so i can view&control the Computer over the Internet.
    Best Regards, Erwin Preuner

Well it does say Offboard PCI/ISA IDE device and then the manual talks about a graphics card should work correctly????
Could be a typo on the BIOS or in the manual (I hope the first), but that's the closest as I get to an option.
However, with most MSI boards, adding VGA card to a system with onboard VGA, will take the added over the onboard.
    But I'm guessing now.

  • MSI K7D Master-L & 3ware 7506-4LP boot hang

I recently purchased a 3ware Escalade 7506-4LP RAID Controller (IDE, 4 ports - see product info here) for use with my MSI K7D Master-L (MSI-6501-030 - see product info here) to replace my Promise FastTrak100 TX4. On boot, the system POSTs fine, and then freezes solid at the point at which it should load the BIOS for the 3ware controller. I get nothing but a blank screen with a blinking cursor in the top left hand corner, and a hard reset (CTRL-ALT-DEL doesn't work) is required to to reset the machine. The diagnostic LEDs on the motherboard indicate it's freezing at the point where it is "Initializing IDE controller".
    What I have tried:
    - Verified BIOS on RAID card was latest version (1.08.00.048)
    - Removed all PCI cards (except for RAID controller and video card)
    - Adding 33 MHz PCI cards to 64/66 PCI slot to slow down bus
    - Tried RAID controller in each PCI slot
    - Flashed the motherboard BIOS to 3 different versions, 1.91, 1.82, and 1.5 (which the motherboard was validated for use with this card on - see here)
    - Tried various BIOS settings (ACPI on/off, PCI Latency, etc)
    - Disabled all onboard devices (sound, ide, fdc, serial, parallel, etc.)
    - Detached all drives from card
    - Tested card in another computer to verify it works - it does.
I have noticed some people on this forum have had similar problems with SCSI or RAID cards:

  • MSI K8N Diamond - PCI Express x1??

First, excuse me for my bad english, I'll try to do it well
I was searching for information about "MSI K8N Diamond", MSI motherboard with SLi technology. In the specifications web, I read that they are 2 PCI-Express x1 Slots in this motherboard. Exactly the information is:
    • Two PCI Express x16 slot (supports PCI Express Bus specification v1.0a compliant)
    • Two PCI Express x1 slots (support PCI Express Bus specification v1.0a compliant)
    • Three 32-bit v2.3 Master PCI bus slots (support 3.3v/5v PCI bus interface).
But when I came to see the motherboard's image, I couldn't found these two slots anywere. There they are 2 PCI-Express x16 and 3 "normal" PCI slots...
So, the question is if somebody knows where are those slots, or if it's only an error in the specifications web page...
    Early thanks!!

If u check the msi website and click the flash about the K8N Diamond it shows that it has
2 x PCI Express 16x/1x - meaning if one port is running 16x (i.e. non SLI) then the other can be utilised as a x1 port
bogus I know - especially seeing as the Asus board can support extra x1 slots

  • K8D Master

I am searching like crazy, but I can't seem to find any info on when the K8D Master (MSI-9131) (http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/server/svr/pro_svr_detail.php?UID=441&MODEL=MS-9131) motherboard will be for sale in Europe. ;( Can anyone tell me, or point me to this information? Any help is much appreciated!!

    Hi again!
I've looked into the power supply of the other server we built with the same specs. and as far as i can see it does not have more than 18A*. It might just be that the motherboard is damaged, so we will return it now to the re-seller.

  • K8D master ft onboard video problem

Hi, I have the k8d master ft and when I install a pci vid card the onboard video is disabled. Does anyone know how or even if it is possible to run both? I could not find anything in bios but maybe I missed it.
    thanks.

Sorry, you can't....this happens on all boards that I have seen.

  • Does K8D Master-FT support Dual core Opteron?

    Hi,
Does K8D Master-FT support dual core Opteron? I saw the latest BIOS was released at 2003/12/11 and said to support for all series of AMD Opteron(up to 248, SC, 2.2GHz/1M).
    Thx, Xuekun

Sorry I only looked after his question.
The entire K8D-Master3 series has support for it: >>Link<<

  • K8D-Master and Highpoint SATA controllers

Has anyone been able to get a K8D-Master to boot from a Highpoint SATA controller?
I've tried 2 cards - the 1520 and the 1542 - both without much success.
Both cards are recognised in OS setup, but when it comes to boot, I just get the BIOS message saying "Reboot and Select proper Boot device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key" (interesting use of capitals!).  This happens regardless of whether I've got the disks RAIDed or not.
The 1520 is all fine in the K8D-Master's BIOS boot section, but when you try to enter setup with a 1542 plugged it, it puts "WAIT" in the middle of the screen and freezes.  Neither card it seems is capable of actually booting the machine - however both cards work perfectly in other boxes.
A Silicon Image (sil3112) controller works fine, however there is no support for its RAID functionality in FreeBSD and I'd rather not send this box packing without mirrored disks.
Any help in the matter would be greatly appreciated.

ok never heard of it before
    http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/server/svr/pro_svr_detail.php?UID=441
are you setting scsi second in boot order to cdrom
have you defined the array in the raid cards bios
have you hit f6 as xp install starts and feed in raid drivers
other than that it sounds like a bios issue your best emailing msi about
we dont get that many server board users in here

  • K8D Master 3 v1 and DC Opteron

    Hi.
I found in QVL that this mobo support i.e. opteron 270 .
    But I've some doubt.
For newer K8D Master 3 v2 is available bios update to support DC opteron.
For older K8D Master 3 v1 (this one I have) isn't available any bios update.
    Anyone know why ?
Anyone has K8D Master 3 v1 with DC opteron ?

    my story :
being a big fan of the game world of the warcraft made me always thinking of getting the best VGA cards , this lead me to the idea of upgrading my VGA from ATI x850xt to get a new MSI 7900GTX 512 PCI-E
things were great for the first 4 months , nothing was there , best ever VGA i may get and use , almost one months ago i had to install the game again due to many suddens errors ( mainly corrupted files in theg ame folder )
since then i started to have things i would never had before , what im having now is
1-  game screen start to have long lines , screen freez then system crash with BOSD saying i have  nvidia error dll file ,
2- my game kept always having corrupted files and i always had to reinstall ,
    what i have tried are
updating , rolling back the VGA driver ( from MSI site and the NVIDIA site) , updating the BIOS of MB form gigabyte site
formatting and getting a fresh copy of winXP
reducing the clock speed to min (eventhough my card temp never passed 60 degree)
i did also a mem test on my rams , i found that my corrupted files was cuased by one of them , so when it was removed corrupted files problem was fixed , however my card still crash and nothing changed
i tired useing opengl , nosound , and reduced all VGA options to be off at the game setting , but still crash
i already contacted tech supp at MSI and used the driver they advised me to use , but nothing change ,
the VGA crash happen in a wiered way , sometimes it can stay for 6 hrs without a crash and sometimes every 3 mins
and somtimes it crash at the login screen even before i start the game
i just dont know why it was working for 4 months and crashed now
now my question , is my VGA became a dead card like my ram and i should buy a new one , was that caused by the PSU , should i get a new VGA and keep the PSU or should i get the two of them new , and is there any way to fix my VGA to make it working as before ,
btw , i have tried many 3D games and all give the same crash
    ur help will realy appreciated

just noticed somthing not written on my psu box and not at  the link of the PSU
    it says        +12v@10amp , +12v@15 amp
still dont know what that mean , is it 25 amp in total ? ( there is nothing written like total at the box )
get a better PSU, some good options can be found here:

its a good idea in same time to test VGA on other machine to check his status as well.
