Msi k8m neo-v not detecting SATA HDD

hi,
i am using MSI K8M NEO-V motherboard,
i have read all the threads related to it, and detection of SATA hdd's with it.
i have tried everything except the bios update.
i'v set the jumper to 1.5Gbps
tried different drives but no go
any help would be appreciated,
my system configuration is:
-msi mobo k8m neo-v (ms-7032 ver1) (bios version 3.1)
-hitachi deskstar 80 gb  pata-ide hdd,
-1gig sd dd ram
-windows xp professional os
and i am trying to get SAMSUNG 500 GIG HDD (model- HD503HI) to get detected to my mobo
(and yes this 500 gig hdd os ok, it is getting detected in other pc's)

If its a SATA-II (3Gb/s) drive, it will probably never work on that board.
VIA VT8237 chipset has known incompatibility issues with SATA 3Gb/s drives, which cannot be fixed. Either try and get hold of a SATA 1.5Gb/s drive, or just use a PATA (IDE) drive instead.
yes bro it is a sata-II 3GB/S drive..
any other workaround??

  • MSI x48c platinum - does not detect SATA HDDs

I am having some problems with a pc build with motherboard not detecting SATA HDDs (MIS x48c Platinum).
I believe I have exhausted all other avenues, and I would appreciate some help if I have missed something obvious.
(details of other components are listed at end of mail).
When I built pc using these components, and went into BIOS settings, the SATA HDD's were not detected.  I tried changing BIOS settings, but no difference if SATA, AHCI, or IDE settings.
I removed the HDDs and successfully tested them in another machine (also formatted them while had them istalled in other pc).
IDE optial drives are detected.  I have tried to boot with these disconnected to ensure no isues with both IDE and SATA drives connected, but this did not resolve issues.
I have also tried connecting HDD to different onboard SATA ports, and connecting just one drive with no success.
Resetting BIOS defaults, and using clear CMOS reset did not resolve issues either.
Sometimes on boot, it takes a few attempts to boot correctly, and on these occassions I receive an error message "Warning !!! The previous performance of overclocking is failed, and the system is restored to the default settings, Press any key except "DEL" to enter setup ......."  I haven't tried to set any over clocking.
I read about a number of issues on MSI forum related to SATA drives which were resolved by BIOS upgrade (mobo was shipped with v.7.0 released 20 March 08).  I managed to install an old IDE HDD and flash BIOS, but still no resolution of issues detecting SATA drives (BIOS V.7.2 released 29 July 08).
I've tried everything I can think of at this stage.  Is there anything else I should try, or is there something wrong with this motherboard?
    Spec:
    Motherboard:
    343949 MSI X48C Platinum, X48, Socket-775,
    DDR2/DDR3, ATX, GbLAN, 2xPCI-Ex(2.0)x1
    Other components in build:
CPU Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550
Graphics Sapphire Radeon HD 4870 512MB
    HDD 2 x Samsung SpinPoint T166 500GB
    RAM 4GB (2x2GB) GeIL DDR3 1333MHz Value Dual Channel (7-7-7-24) PC3-10660
PSU 700W X-Power ATX SLI PSU
ODD DVD & CDR drives from an old pc - IDE connections.

i just remember     i had once similar problem with a sata driver. the issue is this you can not adjust everything in bios in one go and expect mobo to know about it. what i mean is this for instance you disable the raid then you save it and exit and then when it reboot you go back to bios and reset another another parameter,  you save and exit and on reboot you go back to bios and reset another parameter. i got round the prob that way and it worked and mobo saw the sata HDD. give this a shoot good luck and finally make sure raid is disabled
this is what i would do
1- make sure the jumper setting on your IDE Hdd is correct (Y may have to try this twice as there are two different setting on jumper setting for Master)
    2- connect the sata HDD
    3-click on power
4-go to bios and disable raid save exit
5-on reboot go back to bios
6--on first option click on it then you should see all devices that can be seen by mobo if you do not see sata HDD you have to click on enable for the auto to see the device once it sees the device save and exit. REMEMBER THE JUMPER SETTING  ON IDE HDD CAN CAUSE PROB . SO try the other jumper setting for master, repeat this procedure once more hopefully you get it right

  • MSI K8T Neo-V Not Seeing SATA HD

i just completed building a new system:
    MSI K8T Neo-V motherboard
    amd 3200
    160 SATA HD
im trying to setup to use just the one hard drive but bios will not recognize it. it does see the dvdrw but not the hard drive. i made sure the sata cable and power were plugged in. i even tried installing xp then f6 to load the raid driver but still no luck. please any help would be greatly appreciated.

hey thanks for your reply. yes i made sure everything was enabled and i just fixed my own problem. just for the heck on it i called msi tech support [talked to a real smart fella] and he told me that sometimes you need to jumper the drive when your using a single hard drive. i played with it a few minutes and it worked. its installing xp right now. i guess you learn something new everyday.

  • Clock speed problem with MSI K8M Neo-V

    Hi all,
I'm a newbie on all this tasks of mounting my own PC, so I'm very sorry if my question is stupid and is already answered in the forum (I didn't find it).
    I have the following components:
    - MSI K8M Neo-V
    - 2 SATA HD 160 Gb
    - AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3200+
    - 512 MB (PC3200 DDR SDRAM)
My problem is that I cannot get my AMD 3200 to run at 3200 Mhz. What I
    only get is:
    - CPU ratio x11
    - CPU FSB clock 210
    - Dynamic overclocking colonel (my BIOS doesn't have general or
    commander, as shown in manual)
That makes a total of 2.31 Mhz, far away from the 3.2 desired.
If I try to change this values to others higher (such as FSB 230), I get a black screen
and I need to reset BIOS.
Please, could you help me solve this situation? I find it really
disturbing to have bought a new AMD 64 3200 with a good motherboard,
and not being able to make it run at the appropiate speed.
Thank you very much in advance.

3.2GHz.  Wow.  I would kill to have an A64 at that speed.  :D
Quote from: Tiresmoke on 14-April-05, 23:19:47
AMD's don't run at the speed they have listed on the CPU, rather that is a performance equivalent number. In this instance your CPU has the equivalent performance of an Intel that runs at 3200Mhz.
Actually I believe the Performance number equivalent to the MHz an AMD Thunderbird would be at, NOT an Intel CPU.

  • Mainboard did not detect SATA1 HDD

My PC using P965 Platinum Series MS-7238 motherboard, Processor Intel Dual Core 3.0 GHz, 128MB Nvidia G-Force PCI VGA, RAM 1024MB Visipro, HDD 80GB Seagate barracuda 7200rpm SATA1, and I have bought it on 2nd of June 2007. during these periode of time (the date I bought till last week) my PC running well.
Last week 21st of may 2009, I found my PC did not detect my HDD. I have installed the HDD to another PC in order to check whether the problem was caused by my HDD or the motherboard. After I tested the HDD by installing it to another PC, it seems the HDD is in good condition and running well.
After that I try to change the powerd cord and SATA1 cord to the HDD with the brand new one to check if the problem caused by the cords and still my motherboard did not detect the HDD. I am very confused what is wrong with my PC. Please help me to solve this problem so that I can use my PC back.

    Hi,
the board has two controllers (ICH8R Primary SATA Controller (SATA Ports 1-6)) and JMicron JMB361 (SATA Port 7)).  Which SATA Port is your hard drive connected to?  The chance that both onboard SATA Controllers or all SATA Ports have been damaged is very low.  Try other SATA ports and see if the situation changes if you connect it to a different controller.
Also, have you cleared CMOS with main A/C power cable removed from PSU to see if that changes anything?

  • MSI K8T Neo Motherboard not recognising HDD

G'day all. I have recently bought various computer parts to install them myself. I installed them reading the instructions to the letter. Below is my system.
    AMD64 3000
    MSI K8T Neo
    GeiL Twinx 1GB (2x512MB)
    Seagate 160GB SATA HDD
    Pioneer Multiformat Burner
    Sony DVD-ROM
    1.44MB FDD
I started the system up for the first time, and on the startup DOS style, 'BIOS not loaded', comes up. Then, it comes to the bit where Energy symbol is displayed. I hit F1 to go to setup. And looking at Primary Master, there is no HDD listed. I have the two cd/dvd drives on IDE2. leaving IDE1 open. The HDD is plugged into power and the orange SATA cable is plugged into Serial1, and ive tried it in SATA1. No luck. Also, Im curious as to why my FDD's light is on constantly.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Im pretty sure once I get the HDD recognised, I load windows xp and its pretty much smooth sailing from there. Thanks in advance.

  • K8N Neo Platnium not detecting PCI cards

This is my second K8N Neo 2 Platnium board.  Both of them have failed to detect the cards in the PCI slots.  I know for sure that both of the cards work in my old system since i had to switch back to my old parts when i was getting my first board RMAed. The two cards are:
Creative Audigy 2 ZS sound card
    Promise 100TX ATA controller card
I've disabled the onboard audio in BIOS, but that wouldn't matter since its not detecting either card.  I've done the "search for new hardware" wizard in Windows XP Pro w/ SP2 and all updates as of Sept 26, 2005.  I've tested it both inside and outside of the case so it isn't shorting.
    I am P*ssed off.
Frankly, this is unacceptable.  Not only that, but upon inspecting the second board right out of the package, I saw that it has been ran before.  Long enough for dust to collect on some caps and on the SATA slots around the nForce chipset.  Also, there were little rings around the mounting holes from where screws have obviously been screwed in before.
Not to mention i had to call them to send my RMA out.  Website said it was ready to be shipped on 9-14-2005, I called on 9-20-2005, and it finally shipped out the following day.
I am not happy with my MSI purchase.  This coming after hearing so much good about this company.  Unless this problem is resloved I doubt I'll ever buy another one of their products again.

I had a similar problem with a 945p neo platinum board.  Anything I plug into any PCI slot didn't detect.  I solved the problem by flashing to the latest BIOS for the board.  Now everything seems to be working fine.

  • MSI K8T-NEO won't Detect Intelli microsoft mice

does any1 else have a microsoft intelli explorer mouse?
This boared will not detect mine yet all other pc's i have detect the mouse no what it is and it's fine.
I have installed the SP1 usb 1.1 drivers and messed with the legacy support in bios.
    I'm nearly 100% sure this mouse (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00004VUC3/026-2276493-0209240)
and the MSI neo K8T are incompatible.
    Cheers to any1 who replies

I had been having problems with some MS Explorer mice and one PS2 mouse. 6702-010 mobo, XP sp1, V1.2 bios, 3200 Athlon 64, 1GB ram, see profile for more.
    I was able to get an old Logitech oem PS2 mouse to work most of the time;
    a wired MS Intellimouse Explorer 3.0 worked all of the time;
    an MS Wireless Intellimouse Explorer would not work for more than a few seconds before jerking to a halt;
an MS Wireless Intellimouse Explorer 2.0 would not work for more than a few seconds before jerking to a halt.
I loaded (and reloaded) all of the drivers from the original CD's. No help.
I read Bas's suggestions, and gwatemala's replys and efforts, and followed the suggestions. All 8 ports were enabled in bios. No legacy usb options were permitted. All usb ports worked with an APC UPS and a Sony 510U DVD.
All of this turned around when I unplugged all usb and ps2 devices (keyboard included) and then plugged in each of the three USB MS mice one at a time while watchng what Device Manager thought was connected. THEN I plugged the keyboard in, and it was not recognized (acted dead, but was visible in Device Manager list and had okay status).
    I rebooted.
All three MS 'Intellimice' were recognized and worked fine simultaneously. Worked for Word, browsing, and Freelancer. Keyboard worked fine as well. PS2 mouse DOES NOT work, and does not show up in device manager.
I have disconnected wired usb Intellimouse and wireless usb Intellimouse 2.0. All usb ports seem to be high speed (Sony 510U doesn't complain at least, and it does normally complain if on a 1.x port).
Gwatemala, try running device manager, removing all ps2 and usb devices, and then plug in wireless mouse.
Bottom line; seems as if OS wasn't seeing the usb devices full time. Disconnecting and then reconnecting ps2 keyboard seemed to allow OS to find USB mice. Not a definitive solution probably, but maybe a workaround.

  • MSI B85M-G43 could not detect Gigabyte R929OC 4GB 3X Windforce

I recently build a new PC a month ago and have been using it for 3 weeks then random black screens problem started to occur.
It started right around the time after I updated to catalyst 14.4 w/o the beta. At the same time i noticed windows update has updated some files which i did not note down what it was. Also Noticed that startup list had some new programs running.
I proceeded to disable the programs in startup, undo the latest windows update and finally reinstalled windows 8.1
Nothin works and I am left with black screen, which i realised that to be actually the mobo not detecting the card once i got a vga screen plugged in to mobo onboard graphics and went to BIOs to see.
Previously my BIOs were updated to latest through the liveupdate 5 program, which itself updated to liveupdate 6. For some reason I dont like programmes sitting at the back constantly checking for updates, so after updating those, I deleted all those programs. The updates also took forever to download, I figured i will download/install individually in future. Now that I do a search there is no live update 6?
Just to make sure, I have reflashed the BIOs to E7823IMS v3.6 again through the m-flash inside BIOs, but did not choose the BIOs + ME option as i dont know what it is. After reboot, BIOs version remained there, checked for ME and there's the version number 9.0.21.1462.
    BIOs version:  E7823IMS v3.6
    ME version: 9.0.21.1462
Prior to the Win8.1 reinstall, my OS was sitting on my SSD in non UEFI mode, I chose to install in non-uefi as i dont know what it was then. When i tried to reinstall, somehow the boot priority identified the SSD as UEFI first, so i wanted to give it a try and proceeded to install win8.1 in UEFI until reboot failed. Then I decided to installed my win8.1 on my HD in non UEFI instead. The system, as usual, works using the integrated graphics and mobo could not detect the graphics card in the only PCIe 3.0 x16 slot. Should I plug it into the PCIe 2.0 x16 slot and try, It never occur to me until now as I thought that was the only slot my graphics card could use.
    Please help
    Here are my specs:
    MSI B85M-G43
    Intel i7-4770 3.4GHz
    G.Skill Ripjaw 1600MHz (2 x 8)MB Blue
    SSD Samsung Evolution 240GB

    LG 24x DVD Writer
    Corsair Carbide Air 540 Case
SeaSonic G-750 80+ GOLD Power Supply
    ASUS PCE-N53 PCI-E Adapter
    Windows 8.1 OEM
Qnix QX2710 Evolution II 27" matte PLS monitor (uses dual-DVI-D connector only)

try to update your bios again but use the BIOS + ME option as it will flash not only your bios but Intel ME at the same time.
Note: Don't remove your USB during bios flash as the system will restart for I think around 2 times and plugging out USB might kill the MB bios.
Did you modify any settings in the bios setup??
If updating bios not can't work, try to plug your card to second PCIE slot and see if it could boot or not.
