MSI K8N Diamond - Boot problems with USB devices attached.

Hi There.
I have been seeking the forums, but havent found the answer to my problem yet.
This is how it goes with ANY USB devices attached to either of the four USB ports on the Motherboard.
When i turn on my system, it hangs in the POST right after displaying the BIOS version (Which I have updated to 1.6) - I cant use my Keyboard to get to the BIOS setup.
Without USB devices attached...
The system boots without problems. And in Windows XP SP2 i can insert my keyboard, mouse etc. and everything works great - both USB 1.1 & 2.0 devices.
I have disabled the KB/USB.. in BIOS and I have disabled the "Boot on other device" option as well.
As I have found on this forum, a lot of people have problems with USB Front panel and D-Bracket (USB ports) connectors causing the system to hang - But my D-Bracket (USB connectors) and my front USB port is at this time DISCONNECTED - so this cannot be the problem.
The D-Bracket shows the "Bios Sign On" information - and stops at that point
Am I having a malfunctioning Motherboard here, or are there any solutions to this problem?
Please help me as I am desperate to have my system work properly.
Regards
Stieper

Well I have read about that somewhere in here, but my problem is NOT with an USB hub, but with any USB device attached to the motherboard's USB slots. It is driving me nuts to be honest!! I think it might be time for RMA
What do you say guys - is my Motherboard ready for RMA, or do I have to try something specific berfore sending it to the retailer??

This is a problem when a Microsoft web camera is installed prior to the boot up of the computer
The webcam works fine if it is installed after the boot up.
When any type of USB product that does not have an OS is installed in any USB port the computer freezes at the BIOS POST screen and will not finish the POST unless the USB device is removed. If there is an OS on the USB device it boots normally to that device and it also boots normally to the installed OS if the USB device is not installed.
Contacted HP Support and was told to update the BIOS, which I had already done. Then I was told that the computer was out of warranty and I could pay for the service if I wanted help. I agreed to pay if the problem was fixed. This brought a reply that they did not know if the problem could be fixed.
The next day I received an email with Critical Alerts, one showing the BIOS update I had already installed and 2 other non critical updates.
Since HP did not show any interest in fixing this problem I am posting it here to see if anyone else has had this problem.

    Hi,
Boot into the bios and change the boot priority order and save the setting change.  Look under the Storage TAB drop down and then Boot Order. Highlight USB and press enter and then the down arrow to move it below the hard drive.  Save the changes when you exit the bios.

[Athlon64] Msi K8N Neo2 Platinum problems with Patriot Ram

    First post, whoo hooo
So what version of BIOS are u running?  I recently installed the two newest versions 2.0 and 2.1, and they both give me problems.  With the latest (2.1) I'm getting the same error as you.  Returning back to previous BIOS fixed my problems.  Oh yeah, my RAM is Kingston Hyper-X, so i don't think thats your problem.
Let me know if you fix it, thats why im here, .

  • K7N2 deltas mainboards have a problem with usb devices ??

    Ok here is my problem..
I had installed WinXP Pro with SP1..
I got a 20 GB USB2.0 disk.i connected it on the both front or rear usb ports.
When i tried to transfer files to my usb disk or to my PC, in the middle of the copying, i got "Write Delay Failed" error and lost my usb connection..
I had to plug it out and in again..
Now, i have an DSL modem..Last night, i was disconnected from internet and my modem's lights gone..I plug it again, no lights..restarted my PC, also completely shutdown Windows XP..Again no lights..
Then, formatted PC and installed windows 2000 Pr and SP4, until now, my modem worked fine..But USB 2.0 ports are still no use for my usb disk...
In bios , it's enabled as USB 1.1+2.0..
I think this K7N2 deltas have a problem with usb 2.0 devices and Win XP Pro..
Some guys talking about, removing 9th wire earth, but couldn't understand which wire from where ? From mainboard or from usd device's cable ?
Those cables are fabricated, i think it's impossible ?
My processor is Athlon 2500+, ram Twinmos 512 DDR 400
    Thanks for reply

I'm also having this problem. It's happening with my USB flash disk. I was almost buying another one when I tried it with Windows Vista on the same machine and it worked ok, then I tried Arch Linux (with kernel 2.6.30.5) on another machine and got the same error. After that I tried Ubuntu and it worked ok. Seems that Arch's kernel doesn't like my USB flash disk.

  • MSI K9N DIAMOND boot problems

    Hi.
I have given the main PC sig below to my son. And I now have / building
    MSI K9N DIAMOND AM2 nvidia nForce 590 SLI 8channel audio DDR2 ATX
    Corsair 1GB DDR2-6400 128Mx64 non-ECC 240 DIMM unbuffered 5-5-5-12
    AMD 2x 5600 cpu
I have kept the PSU, wifi card.
(will update when up and running.)
When I put his harddrive (SATA) into his new PC it saw it straight away and booted into xp,without having to reinstall . Great.
I put my drive into the new AM2 board and I get three beeps (I read that's the USBs)
Then it either just hangs on a black screen or if i enable raid it tries then the BSOD  code 0x0000007E which i believe is just a standard error message.
The D-bracket has 4 green lights...
does anyone know why I cant just boot up my drive like i could with my sons, is it because i'm switching to AM2 from 939?
When I enter the raid setup (F10) it can see the drive but next to where it says bootable drive  which is normally a yes or a no it has N/A and I cannot change it.
I belive it is a raid/ driver problem I'm thinking its the AM2 upgrade.
I did not get any floppy raid drivers with my mo/bo.
If I reinstalled Xp would I need to install raid drivers during setup? (F6)
    I have clears cmos
    Many thanks for any help.

    hello
I plugged my sons drive into my K9N Diamond and it is saying the same thing in the raid setup   (F10) .....When you have the option to set as the bootable drive
Quote "set as boot drive N/A"
It can see the drive OK, I can delete array and rebuild it
Is there something in the bios that I need to tick or untick/ enable for it to boot from the drive?
    any help would be great.
    thanks

  • MBP will not boot up with USB devices connected

I have a late 2010 MBP 15 10.7.2 that will no longer boot up if any USB devices are attached. A dongle, a hub, anything. It goes to the gray screen and stays there. Disconnecting all USB devices the MBP will boot up. Then connecting the USB devices they work. It just will not boot up with anything connected to the USB ports. I have reset PRAM, SMC and fixed disk permissions. Made sure login items are ok, and start up disk is correct. I cant really say when the problem started as it worked fine before, maybe on 10.7.1? Not sure.
    Any suggestions for a fix?

I re-installed the 10.7.2 combo. It booted up with a non powered usb 4 port hub but it disabled it. Plugging it out then in again and it works. Looks like the USB firmware has changed somehow in 10.7.2, The hub works on PC's at work no problem, and it worked on the MBP without issue previously. Its not just the non powered hub its a powered hub, and other devices.
    Any solutions?

  • Problems with USB device when using WindowsNT

    Hi,
my problem is that I want to use a simulator which can only be connected with USB to the computer.
I used the VISA Driver Development Wizard as discribed in this link (http://zone.ni.com/devzone/conceptd.nsf/webmain/6792BAB18242082786256DD7006B6416) and it didn't work.
I'm using Windows NT and VISA 3.1 and I read that it isn't possible to create a USB connection with VISA when using Windows NT. So my questions
    1) is this right
    2) Has someone a idea what I can do? I tried to use VISA USB Control and this also didn't work.
I hope I discribed my problem detailed enough. It's my first post.
    Thanks for your responses
    Joerg

As you can see in this table, USB is not supported by VISA under NT:

I would recommend to use Win2000 or XP. Using one of these OSes you could use this turorial  to create your VISA-driver:
    http://zone.ni.com/devzone/devzoneweb.nsf/Opendoc?openagent&1D0DD81FF1448CAE86256D90006EE2B4
If it is not posssible to change the OS, you have to look for other ways of programming your usb-device. Check the web or the Microsoft site for help concerning Windows SDK and USB.
    Hope this helps a little!

If you are mixing 2*512MB twinmos twister with WLCSP chips with 2*256MB kingston hynix based TSOP chips
i don't think it's strange that you have those experiences .
Or is it twisters with tsop dimm packages (twister-pro) .
I under the impression that twister with wlcsp isn't the best compability for the A64's memory controller , they seem to work best at P4 setups .
Try with only one type of modules .
It's hard for the motherboard to set timings by spd if the modules are all of different programmed spd proms .
Remember that 3.4.4.8 is spd data for DDR533 operation for one pair and 3.4.4.8 for 500DDR operation for the other pair.
What (if they have any) are the spd data they have for DDR400 (it's the 200mhz/DDR400 spd data the motherboard shall read).

  • [K8N NEO3-F] Problem with USB keyboard and PS2 mouse after upgrading BIOS

    Hello everyone!
I have upgraded BIOS from 1.1 to 1.4... I have Sempron 2600 (64bit) so BIOS v.1.1 did not recognise it.
The motherboard works, but after upgrading I have a small problem with my keyboard and mouse.
When I use USB keyboard my PS2 mouse doesn't work. When I connect PS2 keyboard mouse works!!!
Can you tell me what's wrong?
    Thanks, bartull@
PS. Does BIOS v.1.3 recognise Sempron 64bit? Can you give me a link to it?

I think that the problem may have been caused by flashing either with liveupdate or with winflash.  I had the problem when i used winflash correctly (shutting down all programs, checking all the boxes to clear bootblock and cmos) but had usb keyboard connected during flash.  My suggestion is to reflash with floppy to last bios version that worked using only ps2 mouse and keyboard with the following instructions:
DOS floppy flash shall be performed with :
    awfl833d.exe w7030nms.180 /py /sn /wb /cc /cd /cp /f /e
(Replace biosfilename with appropriate version for Neo1/neo2 etc , switches remain the same )
    After flash is complete :
TURN OFF PSU (don't restart) wait 15 seconds
Turn on again , press the power button .
Enter BIOS and load optimized defaults (NO OTHER CHANGES) , save + exit
Boot the system again with the floppy in the drive to let the DMI pool build and update itself .
If that works, then reflash to the bios you tried before with the same procedure.  Once you have stable system with ps2 keyboard and mouse working, re-enter bios and enable usb and keyboard support as a lot of bios' have it disabled by default for some strange reason.
    Good luck.

  • MSI K8N neo2 platinum PROBLEM WITH MAXTOR 300 SATA2

hi I got an enormous problem configuring this drive on the msi k8n neo2platinum (bios 1.9)
Simply the bios see the hd maxtor 300 on sata2 channel (I got another maxtor sata1 on first channel) but when loading windows it freezes.
What I have to do please?
    thanx

    BTW -
Here's a thread about your prob to check out. I thought it was totally solved for all nvidia chipsets, guess not. Nf3's seem to still have it to some extent. It seems Maxtor is the one that "dropped the ball" this time...

  • Msi K8n Diamond IDE problems

    Hi,
Can anyone help me with this problem? I brought this motherboard last July had problems with when i firts set up. And its always the same problem. When i burn a dvd or cd i get to 60% and the computers rest. Last year i just rebuild my xp with old drivers. This year, i forget and i download the lastest one and got the problem back. I belive its some thing to do with the creative labs drivers and the nvidia force drivers notl liking each other. I have update the asipi lvl and done all the microsfot updates. I just cant burn a dvd or cd without it restarting. The rest the computers works great. I have no problems with it. Can anyone please share what they did if they had the problem? Thx for your help.

    Hello !!
Did you install the Nvidia IDE SW Driver ? Deinstall it, use the ones that are provided by microsoft.
To do so open software properties, select nforce drivers and deinstall the nvidia ide driver, but only this one !
After restart the M$ drivers will be installed.

    Dear Flobelix,
Thank you very much for your help.
This board is new. I bought it the last week (Amazon in France)
But my knowledge for ''old cpu name'' is poor. Can i use Sempron 145 ?
    Thanks
Yes, it will work with the Sempron x145.  So it won't even POST, you get no display at all, any beeps, have you tried resetting the CMOS, or just using one stick of RAM?

  • New iMac 27" won't reboot with USB devices attached

I have a 3 day old 27" iMac, that I dearly love. However, I noticed when I reboot and I have any external HD's attached via USB, it will not reboot. It gets to the white screen and hangs. I can pull them out and hit the power switch and it will boot normally. Any suggestions?

I have had my 27" I7 iMac for less than 24 hours and after several attempts at migrating my home folder and applications from my 3 year old iMac 24" running 10.6.2, I am having the same problem with the white screen.
When I finished migrating all my stuff, I hooked up my D-Link 7 port powered hub that has 2 250Mb drives and 1 500Mb dive (for Time Machine) to the new machine and it just hangs on the white screen.
I have to press the power button on the back to shut down and when I restart it just hangs, so I removed the one cable (for my D-Link) from the back of the iMac and it would boot as normal. When it boots I can then plug my D-Link back in and all is OK.
I don't think this has anything to do with the disk format as this setup worked perfectly from my 24" imac, never once froze.
Not sure how to get round this as it's going to be a real pain to have to remove the usb cable every time I want to boot up.

  • Problems with USB devices after installing X

I have installed an X-Fi Elite Pro on an SB8P Shuttle box running XP Home. I also use this PC for TV capture, and use a Hauppage WinTV-PVR-USB2, which is an outboard encoder. Previously, I had an Audigy 2 SZ. I was using this set-up for about 8 months with few problems.
Since adding the X-Fi card, I can no longer install the Hauppage card into any USB slot. I sometimes get a strange error message from Windows saying that I would get better results plugging the device into a USB 2 slot. Apart from that, the drivers do not install.
This message is very puzzling - all the USB slots on the PC are USB 2, and there are no USB errors appearing under hardware properties. I cannot be completely certain that the X-Fi card is causing the problem, but am aware of another issue reported by other X-Fi users in which the PC will not shut down cleanly if a USB disk dri've is connected. I am also experiencing this problem - EAXModule is reported as hanging. This leads me to suspect that there is some sort of USB conflict associated with the card.
I would appreciate some assistance with this, as it is extremely frustrating.

I seem to have fixed the Hauppauge problem by disconnecting the Belkin USB hub that I was also using. Of course, given that I also depend heavily on this device, this might not have totally resolved the issue. Anyway, at least I can conclude that the X-Fi and Win-PVR aren't inherently conflicting.
I hope a fix for the external DVD dri've problem is in the works.Message Edited by rohan_p on 0-2-2006 03:24 PM
