i also tried the drivers microsoft supplied by auto update and they worked ok too.

  • K8N Neo MS-7030 Vista drivers

This is my first thread here, and I have a problem with my K8N Neo MS-7030 754 Mobo. I cant get my USB port to work at high speed, Vista won't let me use a Kingston 2GB USB for Readyboost, ( stick is optimized for Readyboost). Also cant use MSI mobo utilities, no driver found. Will there be updates for Vista driver for this board? Running AMD Athlon64 3700+, Nvidia 6800 agp, 2GB Corsair XMS DDR400, 400w Ultra PSU, LG DVD lightscribe, Lite On CD burner, seagate 80GB 7200 rpm HDD, floppy drive, Diamond 7.1 sound card, Vista Home Premium OS. New to system building, this is my first PC, trying to figure the driver issue out. Thanks.......By the way, does anyone know how I can get a MSI USB D-Bracket W/4 led read out, and the accessories for this mobo, like cables, CD, etc.

You have to wait for drivers to get released, very few are.
You're not the only one, many people complain about the same problems.
I just bought this board (MSI K8N Neo V2.0 H (MS-7030) NF3-250 Socket 754 ATX Motherboard), and expect it from Fedex any minute. I'd heard (in a thread at Anandtech Forums, where I first heard about this board - http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.aspx?catid=40&threadid=2019857&f that nVidia was not going to support Vista with this board, and I'd assumed that it was an across the board thing with nforce 3 boards, but I may have been wrong to make that assumption. So, seeing this thread has raised my eyebrows and now I am wondering if I do indeed have to give up the idea of upgrading to Vista with this motherboard. What is the truth here? Has nVidia recently declared their non-support, or did I dream that up?

  • MSI K8N NEO Platinum Edition Memory plz help!

    Hi
    http://www.datorbutiken.com/se/defa...2X512DDRCA400PR
Is this memory ok with MSI K8N NEO Platinum Edition ?
If it is, do you know how well its oc:s?

He would be talking about this:
    http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDesc.asp?description=20-145-466&depa=0
But I wouldn't reccomend that memory mainly because I have heard mixed reviews about it. You can get the same (if not better) memory at either of these links, the only difference between the two links is the color of the heatspreader (as far as i can tell). This is the memory I have and it works very well, plus its much cheaper:

  • MSI K8N Neo Platinum - CPU Cooler?

Hi there, this is my first post to the forum and hope that someone can help
Bascially I've just purchased a MSI K8N Neo Platinum mobo to use with an AMD 64 2800.
I'm wondering if I should use the stock CPU cooler or look to purchasing a cooler such as a Zalman? I want to keep the computer as quiet as possible.
I've recently read that it would be better to use the Cool and Quiet option with the stock CPU cooler instead?

    Chris,
If you don't mind a used one, there are probably about a hundred thousand available ones from people in these forums who has upgraded their heatsinks, and that's about everyone
The problem is, we dont want to give them up. We bought the retail package with fan not because of the free heatsink/fan, but because of the 3 year warranty that you only get with said combo.  To invoke the warranty, we'd have to return everything, including the heatsink/fan, so we hang on to it and let it collect dust.
So, for an aftermarket fan. If you don't plan to overclock, ever, the thermaltake silent boost K8 will do, although it is nowhere NEAR the 21dB that tt claims. They are known for shall we say, exaggerated claims. But it's certainly quieter than the stock HSF, and it's available everywhere.
Note that the "silent boost k8" is different from the "silent boost". The latter is for socket 462 I think.

  • MSI K8N Neo 4 CPU cooler is slowing down ?!

Hi everyone and HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL AND ALL THE BEST!!!
I have brand new MSI K8N Neo 4 mobo and something strange is going on. CPU cooler on Venice 3000+ s939 in BIOS is rotating on 2200 RPM, but when i start Win XP, Core center and Everest are showing only 1000 RPM.  Cool'n'quiet is disabled in bios.
Is there some setting that  I did'nt see or what?
Thanks for your help in advance.
    Pufta.

    Hi!
Thanks Hodgie_ns for your fast reply, but it was not set up in Core Center for Cool'n'quit to slow down, it was on user setting to maximum.
Problem resolved by connecting the CPU cooler on the other connector for SYS FAN for little time, then I connected back to the CPU FAN connector. Since then, it is working on 3000 RPM all the time. Funny?! Wird?! Bug?!
    Thanks and go for it!

  • MSI K8N Neo 4-F Mobo/AMD64 3200+ and OCZ 3200 FREEZE HELP!

I have an AMD64 Winchester 3200+ Processor running on a MSI K8N Neo 4 -F Motherboard. Initially I ran 2 256MB PC-3200 2-3-3-6 modules. When I tried to install Windows it would freeze.. After 3 different attempts I finally got Windows installed, but the freezing continued. Typically it seemed to freeze whenever I installed a Program from CD. For example Office 2003 and was a nightmare. I tried numerous things to stop my problem, but in the end found the only solution was to switch out my two OCZ modules with 1 Muskin 512MB 2.5 3 3 8. Once I did that it ran fine, not as responsive as the OCZ modules but it didnt freeze! So I put the two OCZ modules back in, removed the Muskin and set the timings manually to match those that the Muskin was running on. They seemed fine for awhile, but eventually froze. Once restarted, samething occured. Now I am back on the Muskin RAM. I had planned to order 2 more of the OCZ modules to take myself to 1GB, but obviously that isnt going to work. I am a tad bit stressed out over this. Could the freezing be caused by the memory? I am concerned the memory isnt the issue and that I may have a bigger problem... I am open to ANY advice! I have done alot of googling with no help.

    Hi there,
You'd better install windows again, format the drive and reinstall, and in that instalation it should not freeze, if it does then something is wrong, you shouldn't continue the instalation because one of the most common symptoms of a not stable system is a not smooth win instalation.
Let us know of the mem model number so we can help you further, because some of the memory modules from OCZ need alot of Volts to work stable, it can get to 3.0v.
Let us know the mem model e what PSU you have and Amps on it.
    Be well....

  • MSI K8N Neo Plat help please!!!

Hi guys, long time browser first time poster on these forums.
I have a few questions which im hoping some of you can help me with, i searched through the message boards but found no answer so I thought i'd write a plea for help.
I recently sold my Asus K8V Deluxe and decided to replace it with a nForce3 250Gb alternative. I ended up purchasing an MSI K8N Neo, which is fantastic apart from 3 particular issues:
    1. After the PC POSTs and before the WinXP loading screen, there is a long delay (about 25-30 seconds) where the PC does nothing. No hard disk activity or anything, just sits there on a blank screen. Can anyone help with as to what might be causing this problem?
    2. Im using a WD 120Gb SATA hard drive, connected to SATA port 3. Using the 'speed test' tool that is provided under the Nvidia Serial ATA controller, I receive a burst speed rate of 69.9mb / sec and a sustained speed of 52.4mb / sec. This falls far below the claimed 150mb / sec. Is there anything I can do to improve this??
    3. In terms of actual system performance its more or less identical to when I had the K8V. I've read in a few reviews that the nForce3 mobo's are faster than the VIA variety. Again is there something I can do to improve this or am I just a gullible mofo?
All drivers are completely up to date and the system is running on a fresh install of XP.
    Cheers.

First, are you raiding drives? It seems you are not, so my next question is did you load the drivers off the floppy disk? For sata drives that are not raided, this is an unnecessary step that has caused systems to hang at startup.-solution- reformat without loading these drivers.

That is about right for that drive. The 150 mb/s is just theoretical, not realistic at this point. My raptor at 10,000rpm's gets about 121mb/s burst and 70mb/s average. So if anything your burst may be a little low. The rpm's of the hard drive is makingmore of the difference than the sata.

The Nforce3 250's are generally a little faster than via's but in some areas not so. These difference would hardly be noticed by the naked eye in most instances, only benchmarks. So you sre not gullible, just a little uninformed about the actual speed difference.

  • MSI K8N Neo Platinum with Vapochill Case problems - Help anyone. :)

    Hi all,
Had a bit of a tricky problem and as Im new to this board I have no idea what could be causing this.
    First all all system specs:
    Athlon 64 3700+ Clawhammer
    MSI K8N Neo Platinum -
1 gig Corsair XMS ProL Low Latency Ram (2 x 512mb)
    Nvidia Gefore 6600GT
    1 x WD Raptor 10000rpm HD
    NEC 2500a DVD writer.
    Eye-T 550w PSU.
Vapochill SE Case with installed Vapochill Phase change cooling.
Here are photos of it in its present state, you will notice that it isnt installed in the case at the moment.
The reason for that is because the two wont work together and I want them to so so bad...
So, hopefully someone here can save the day for me - here goes.
I have tested the Motherboard and all other componants outside of the case and everything runs smoothly and there are no problems what so ever, great.
I have also retested the Vapochill case with another motherboard and that also works without a hitch.
The problem comes when I insall the MSI board into the system, all hooked with a really basic setup, PSU, Case cooling, CPU and Ram. Flick the on switch on the power suply and the system turns on for around 1/2 a second then turns off again. I found this strange because it soundnt come on at all until I press the power button.
If I press the power button the same thing will happen over and over.
I have tried a different powersupply and this does nothing at all.
I have checked for shorts and there is no possible way it is shorting on anything.
I have a fan plugged in where the CPU fan would go and this doesnt help.
I have taken it back out and tested it again and it still works ok.
Does this sound familiar to anyone? Are there any secret Bio's menu's that would have an option that would solve this?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Glenn

When you are running the MoBo standalone, what are you connecting to the Power, Reset, HDD, etc. pins ?  Are you using the wires from the Vapochill case, or something else ?  It looks like a single cable with an intermittent switch (red/white cable).  I once had a similar sort of problem and it was because I hadn't connected up (the incredibly fiddly) cables correctly.  Other than that, I would have gone for a short of some sort - but you have checked that already, so . . . .
As to the system starting to power-up when you switch on the PSU, I wouldn't worry too much about this.  It seems to happen from time to time with some of my systems - amongst other things, the BIOS can be set to resume to previous state after a power-fail.

    1. Create a MS-DOS boot diskette, then copy the the .exe and the bios file to the floppy disk. Both of these files can be found in the package you downloaded.
    2. Press "Delete" and go to BIOS setup while computer bootup.
Check BIOS advanced features and see if BIOS flash write control is enabled
(This option must be enabled. If you can not find this setting, it means the BIOS can be
    flashed.)
    3. Boot from MS-DOS boot diskette and get a:\> prompt.
    4. Type "", then press ENTER
    5. The flash program will then ask "Do you want to save BIOS?", please press "N" for no. The when you see Press 'Y' to program or 'N' to Exit, please press "Y" to continue.
    6. After flashing complete, remove floppy and reset the system .
    7. Press DELETE or F1 when prompted at first reboot after flashing.
    8. Load BIOS optimized defaults, then save settings and exits.
    Drivers & Needed Files:
(Note: All these drivers are for Windows XP.)
Leaked Nvidia nForce3 Chipset Drivers Version 4.40
(Please use at your own risk, these are LEAKED drivers. Password for the .zip file is "ocworkbench rules". Also, you will need to rename the WinXP_2K folder in IDE to either WinXP or Win2K else the installer doesn't pick it up.) Thanks for the link Wonkanoby!
*NEW* Leaked Nvidia nForce3 Chipset Drivers Version 5.03
More leaked drivers? Seems some parts of the drivers are older and some are newer.
    1. Windows XP Service Pack 1A (Web Install) -or- Windows XP Service Pack 1A (Full Install)
    2. Microsoft DirectX 9.0b (Web Install) -or- Microsoft DirectX 9.0b (Full Install)
    3. Nvidia nForce3 Chipset Drivers Version 4.24
    4. AMD Athlon 64 Processor Driver Version 1.1.0.14
    5. Nvidia Video Card Driver Version 56.72 -or- Omega Nvidia Video Card Driver Version v1.5303
(The Omega drivers are third party drivers optimized for gaming, most prefer these over the standard Nvidia drivers.)
    5. ATI Video Card Driver Version 4.7 -or- Omega ATI Video Card Driver Version 2.5.51
(The Omega drivers are third party drivers optimized for gaming, most prefer these over the standard ATI drivers.)
    6. Onboard Sound Driver (Realtek AC'97 Audio Codec) Version A3.61
It is HIGHLY reccomended that you install the drivers/needed files in the order listed above. Please note that there are two #5's because you either install one or the other depending on your video card, do not install both of them.
You will come across a problem here though. You can't install the chipset drivers without installing the Windows service pack and DirectX first, but the Windows service pack and DirectX installs need the internet to download files and you won't have working internet until you install the chipset drivers. Here's what I did to get around this. Instead of downloading the web install versions of Windows service pack and DirectX, download the full version and and put them along with all the other drivers on a backup hard drive or burn them to a CD, this way you will have all the drivers you need when it's time to install them and none of them will require the internet to download files.
Another note when installing drivers. Apparently the Nvidia chipset drivers also come with drivers for the onboard sound, but people seem to agree that the Realtek onboard sound drivers are better. When you are installing the Nvidia chipset drivers, just be sure to uncheck the box for sound drivers when it asks you which drivers you would like to install. Now you can safely install the Realtek drivers without any chance of conflicting sound drivers. Thanks for the tip Wonkanoby!

oh.  IIRC the installer just says USB 2.0 will be fully functional after SP1 is installed.  So after you install SP1 you go into device manager and u click update driver and it will auto search and update the driver.
Simplicity-wise, i guess its pretty much equal.  It might take less preparation to just copy DX9 full onto a CD and install that first, then nforce driver, then right away you have yoru internet connection.
but i dunno.. i guess i will try it your way this time when my RMA"d board comes.
i will be fomratting and doing a fresh install later on today and will let you know if i come across any problems

  • Help with MSI K8N Neo Platinum

HELP please- motherboard MSI K8N Neo PLATINUM: I tried to take away the backplate for the heatsink (on the back side of MB) in order to install the zalman HS beafore i read the forum (use a fan...) and the worst of all happend:
I scratched the back surface!! the scratches are minor, that is 4 scratches half a milimeter long each and not deep but i can see the copper of some lines leading from the memory slots to the processr. My question is : can I try and build the computer on that motherboard anyway or better buy a new one? is there a risk of dammaging other components? oh god what a mistake!

Make sure the new backplate is non-conductive. The backplate for the Hyper 6 has a non-conductive sticker on it. Make sure to keep it on if youve got one... If the lines are exposed even with the back-plate on perhaps you should cover them with some non-conductive (100% non conductive!) tape or something.
Then it doesnt matter if they are exposed, as long as they are ok.
A good tip, which got when i was removing my backplate, is to use a blow dryer to heat it up and the remove it with your fingers. That way youll also notice if it gets to hot
The glue gets sticky at blow drier temps. And pls, dont singe the MB with your blow dryer, you only have to make it hot, and if you cant touch it, how can you remove it with your fingers?
I guess theres no way of telling if you have a serious prob and no way to tell if your cpu will be ok. I guess you could (?) try and start it wíthout anything (cpu, mems) but a PSU, and then, if it (and maybe the PSU) goes "!Pfsssssss!"  or "bang!", youll now you will have to replace it.
I put a screwdriver through an asus board once, and it still worked...

  • MSI K8N NEO PLATINUM (RAM/HD problem/mobo problem?) [SOLVED]

    my setup:
    windows xp pro sp2
    amd athlon 64 3200+
    msi k8n neo plat - 7030 - bios 2.1
    x800 xt vid

    kingston valueram pc3200 2x512 cas 3-3-3-8
    ps = antec 430 watt truepower power supply (20 A on 12V)
I dont know if you guys remember my but i created a topic on here a while back about how my keyboard and mouse suddenly stopped working, well that turned out to be that the msi k8n neo platinum just went bad. So i RMA'd it and recently got the replacement board (with latest bios already installed). It worked completely fine for about a day. Well that same day i got it back, i installed a Logitech G7 USB wireless mouse. after i installed it, i began getting numerous windows stop blue screen errrors, even after i removed the mouse from control panel. So i figured i should format because to rule out everything and start fresh. So i did a FULL format and attempted the reinstall windows again. AFTER the format and BEFORE windows attempted the continue installation, i got the same stop error. I figured now this was a hardware problem. So first i tested RAM. I got the latest version of memtest86 and let it run for 4 hours (11 passes) with NO errors at all. Secondly, i got a western digital hard drive diagnostic program to test for failing hard drive and again no problems with that. I still suspected ram so i tried to boot with only 1 stick installed (in first slot), however the PC didnt boot at all (cleared cmos too). So i moved it to the second slot and cleared cmos again and this time it posted but it just hangs at a cursor and does nothing, same thing happened with third slot. I tried this same procedure clearning cmos each time with the second ram stick and got the SAME results. Shouldnt the motherboard boot with only 1 ram stick installed? Did MSI RMA me another bad board? Any help would be appreciated. thanks.

Can you give us what the D-Bracket was showing ie
    R R
    G R
As an example this means "Initializing Keyboard Controller"
You will find this information in the manual page 2-23. (On mine) under Hardware Setup
Also can you please do all your tests with the ps2 keyboard and mouse and for now leave your Logitech G7 USB wireless mouse to one side.

for two sticks of ram = RR
                                   GG
for one stick of ram = GR
                                  GG
as for the g7, it hasnt been plugged in at all, i took it out long ago.. as for the ram, the timing was set to 2T, no overclocking, i will try 2.7 v and let you know, but for the record, it has been running at normal voltage settings for about a year perfectly fine.

Currently my know problems are 1. The Mother Board will only read my (2) 200/Gig Hard drives as 127/Gigs. 2. Slighest overclocking & system won't boot up.

The first thing you need to do is tighten them memory timings you killing your a64's performance
    try 2.5,3,2,8 t1 2.7v
Get the latest bios for the neo it is a truly fast board when set up right.
Your 3d mark 01 should be in the 15k to 20k range
If you are running 200gb hdds you need to run sp1 on windows xp as xp does not recognise drives over 137gb
run your pci at 67 or 68
    drop your htt to 3x
before you try to over clock you system get it running well at stock speeds or you will end up in a mess, there is not much point o/cin if its not.
Msi neo need a bit of tweaking but it runs like a dream when you do.
    All your parts look ok

Just bought a msi k8n neo board with amd 64 +3200 processor combo. I have everything plugged in correctly ( i hope) and when i boot up the system hangs for a bit Detecting the IDE Drives. Once it has finished detecting it goes on Detecting the DMI Pool Data, after that I get an error that reads. "Disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter." Sometimes it will skip or finish the DMI pool data detection and attempt to start windows but I get a blue screen that says I will need to reboot my system.
    Please please please help!!!

does it manage to detect any ide devices at all?  if not then its probable maste/slave jumper settings...  if it does detect them, then its probably cos u need to install windows

You were being asked a question in a funny way instead of slamming you directly. As you don't care to answer the question on what you were benchmarking with and the simple fact that there are hundreds of proggies that can be used in benchmmarking we can't answer you as it stands. However since you have taken an attitude about this rather than take a bit of ribbing and giving an answer as well as shouting by the use of all caps... You now have a warning and the thread is closed.
I strongly suggest you read the forum rules as they will explain about things like giving complete info on a post so you can actually receive an answer and not PO'ing off people that could otherwise give you an answer. There is a whole section in the rules discussing curtesy.
