MSI K8N Neo2 and Creative?

Anyone know of a problem between MSI K8N Neo2 board and
Creative soundblaster audigy 2 card?
My problem started as soon as i plugged in my soundblaster audigy 2 card,
as a result i started to get randomly "Machine Check Exception" problems.
Often when i play games where the sounds are continually.
I've tried creatives support, but i can't find any solution.
The onboard sound works fine, but i prefer the audigy card, as long as it don't
restart my computer.
Anyone have any idea what it may be?

I am using an Audigy 2 with latest drivers and no probs whatsoever so it may not be a motherboard/soundcard problem

Does this MB have USB 2.0? When I plug in my iPod it says that the device could run faster if I plugged it into a USB 2.0 port. How do I fix this? Thanks
    Chris

    Gadgets,
Before you update your BIOS please do following:
1- Insure that you do not have older legacy USB peripherals (V 1.X) plugged in next to your Ipod 2.0 USB connection.  Pluging in a USB 1.x connector next to a USB 2.0 connector can drag all transfers to the lowest USB 1.x transfer rate.
2- Do not guess at your USB transfwer rate. Download Sandra Lite 2005 (SR3) from Sisoftware here (it's free): http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=177
once you done so install it and use the File System Benchmark program to find out exactly what your Ipod USB connection is achieving in MB/s. A USB 2.0 connection should give you a 32 or greater MB/s transfer rate.
3- Don't MESS with your BIOS UNTIL YOU are absolutely sure of the procedures to follow.  Here is some reference links:

  • MSI k8n neo2 and cpu vcore...

    Dear All,
I just check out with core cell my vcore and i find it @ 1.5v ... but a64 .09 should have 1.4v? I also tryied to set vcore in bios at 1.4v
but in windows i always find 1.5
I check it with ntune and core cell...
    What happens?
    tnx

Use cpu-z from www.cpuid.com to check the voltage .
The mobo bios may still autodetect winchester to 1.5v , if thats the case change
    cpu_vid from startup to 1.4v .

  • These ATI cards 9500 Pro and 9700 Pro ok for MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum and winchester cpu? Compatible?

Looking at grabbing a used ATI 9500 Pro or used 9700 Pro AGP card for my MSI Neo2 Plat since I can't use my Matrox G400.
Any problems using either of the above cards? I don't play a huge amount of 3D games so I'm not going to grab a 9800 Pro or XT or 6600GT. A 9500 or 9700 Pro would allow me to play the newer games at reasonable resolutions. Just want to make sure they are compatible.
    thanx

Ok guys, thanx for the feedback. I missed the 9500 Pro sale, so maybe its for the better. If I'm going to try a bit of 3D gaming, I may aswell get a little bit better card. So here is my question for you folks:
For my MSI K8N Neo2 and AMD64 3000+ system, I want a card that will have good 2D output and good DVD playback. I want to try some 3D games, but don't want to have the minimum. I was looking at used 9500 Pro's and the 9600 XT but I've come across a used 9700 Pro and a 9800 Pro and 9800 Pro with r360 core (almost a 9800XT). So if I get a 9700 Pro, what will I be able to play smoothly at what settings and what will I be unable to play. Ultimately, I may play mostly on my projector at 858 x 484, so maybe the cards don't matter too much. If I don't play 3D games much after a while, I'll probably downgrade, but I want to give it a try. I can't afford a new 9800 Pro/XT or 6600GT.
Used cards I'm deciding between. Have to act fast.
9700 Pro $170 CAD or 9800Pro $210 CAD or 9800 with r360 core $230. Price differences between the cards is as you see there.
thanx in advance for any feedback,

  • Msi k8n neo2 platinium and plextor 716SA - Serial-ATA

Is anyone using a the msi k8n neo2 platinum with a plextor 716sa dual layer dvd burner? if so how do you like the dvd burner? and Do you have any problems with it working with your computer? and can you boot from that dvd burner if you need to reinstall windows xp?

    Hi mate
I am trying to use this same drive on my K8N Diamond mobo. It's having none of it.

  • Reboot problem with MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum and 250 GB SATA HDD

I'm having a "reboot" problem with my MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum. After turning my system on it will run without any problems, until I reboot. After a reboot it will always hang after the initial windows-bootscreen. The HDD-light will remain on. If, instead of going into Windows XP SP2, I try to enter the BIOS after a reboot (DEL) the system will also hang (blank screen with blinking cursor).
It started doing this after I installed the Maxtor 250 GB SATA disk. Before, I didn't have problems rebooting. If I disconnect the Maxtor drive I can reboot and enter BIOS and Windows each and every time. Reconnecting the Maxtor 250 GB SATA drive will return the reboot problem. I always have to use the power swith to get a working system again. It's not enough to do a hard reset (this has the same effect as rebooting).
Here are the details of my system:
    MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum (BIOS 1.B)
    Athlon 64 3200+ (Winchester, 2 Ghz, 512 KB cache, stepping DH-D0)
    2 x Kingston KVR400X64C25/512, 512 MB, DDR, PC3200 (2,5-3-3-8 T1)
Asus Radeon AX800 Pro (256 MB)
    PSU Antec Sonata 380W
HDD Maxtor 80Gb ATA (6Y080P0, Pri Master)
    HDD Seagate 250Gb SATA (ST3200822AS)
HDD Maxtor 250Gb SATA (6V250F0 - jumpered in SATA150 mode, the mobo wouldn't work with the drive in SATA300-mode)
Aopen COM5232/AAH Pro CD-Writer ATA (Sec Master)
BenQ DW1640 DVD-Writer ATA (Sec Slave)
P.S. The NVidia IDE-drivers are NOT installed. System is not overclocked.

Thank you for all the replies. Upgrading to the latest Nvidia IDE-drivers did not fix my problem. Moving to other SATA-ports did not help either. Upgrading the mobo's BIOS is not really an option (I'm using one version before the most recent and there isn't anything in the fixlist of the latest BIOS).
Now I've contacted Maxtor for (hopefully) a new firmware.

  • MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum AND SATA2

i have  MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum motherboard with 3500+ cpu and WD 160 hard sata disk.
I 'd like to ask if my MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum motherboard support sata2 hard disk drives, in order to know which HD  to connect as a second HD drive, SATA or SATA 2 ??

It'll see SATA2 as regular SATA. You won't loose any speed either. There are no hard drives that actually benefit from SATA2 spec speeds. Well, maybe in isolated near theoretical benchmark cases one current model might be faster in SATA2 mode.
We just haven't got the technology yet.

  • MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum and Venice E6

    Hi!
I have just bought an MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum motherboard and an AMD Athlon64 3000+ processor with Venice E6 core (ADA3000DAA4BW).
Will this mobo boot with that processor? Or do i have to use a Winchester to flash the BIOS first? Personal experiences would be helpful!
    Andres.

Your new board probably came with the 1.9 bios. The new 7025v1B.zip bios (1B only a couple days old) I think is for some of the new X2 AMD Processors. The MSI link to Products/Mainboards/Neo2/Processor Compatibility is now setup to use the 7025v1B.zip bios. As I recall the previous Processor Compatibility Chart for 1.9 bios was OK for all the Venice cores (E6 or not). I think it is only some of the latest E6 bigger models are affected by the latest 1B bios. Maybe someone has the older 1.9 bios Processor Compatibility Chart.
You shouldn't need to use a Winchester, some X2 processors would be recognized as earlier X1 models until the newer bios was installed. I think you should be OK with the 1.9 bios. I have the San Diego 4000+ and my board, one month old, came with the 1.9 bios installed.

  • Msi k8n neo2 platinum and corsair cmx512-3200LL

is anyone using the corsair cmx512-3200LL with the msi k8n neo2 platinum or any other motherboards? if so how well does that memory overclock for you?

LL used winbond CH-5 or BH-5 or Infineon B-5 depending on revision .
And everybody knows that it's hard to overclock winbond very far without excessive vdimm increase (2.9v - 3.4v).
Corsair XL use samsung TCCD and overclocks much easier when having a motherboard with a vdimm limit at 2.85v.
xms 4xxx also use samsung (TCCC or TCCD) and some versions use hynix D43/D5
so you can't directly compare xms3200LL with the others .
You can query RamGuy about the chips used on the spesific modules here :

  • MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum and seagate sata2 500Gb

    Hi all,
As per subject, when the drive is connected to my computer it does not get passed the boot screen as all it keeps on doing is rebooting its self,
i have checked all my bios settings and all is as it should be, also i would like to mention that i already have 3 other sata drives connected to this motherboard, of which 2 are, 160Gb Seagate hard drives, and 1, 30Gb Weston digital hard drive, and they work perfectly,
I have also tried unplugging all the drives and just trying the new one, and setting the jumper to limit to 1.5Gb/s but still all it does is reboot, do you think the drive is faulty?
    Thank you

Seems strange.  I have a Seagate sata2 500GB (ST3500630AS) hooked up to Sata port #1 on my K8N Neo2 and it works perfectly.  I have found it to be *very* intolerant of overclocks though.
What sata port are you connecting to?  And are you overclocking?
This could be the problem .....  SATA ports 1 & 2 on the nforce3 boards are NOT locked. I only use 3 & 4 plus set your AGP clock to 67 or 68 to be safe (this is supposed to lock the PCI bus but only seems to work on SATA 3&4). Of course, this won't be a problem if you are running at Safe Default settings.

  • MSI K8N Neo2 Plat. + Audigy2 woes

    Hi.
I'm getting the dreaded Machine Check Exception(0000009c) on my rig and it seems no amount of tinkering can get this combo to play nicely, and as I know there are quite a few more of you with the same problem out there(and a lot who DON'T have this problem) I thought it could be interesting to find out a bit more about this.
    My box:
    A64 3500+(newcastle)
    MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum
2x512Mb (Kingston HyperX PC3000...old stuff from my KT333-mobo)
    Audigy 2 (SB0240)
    HIS 9800Pro Ice-Q
+other stuff that  doesn't affect the problem
    Running WindowsXP SP2
I've tried diff bioses (1.2,1.3,1.4b1), I've tried tweaking the pci-latency of the audigy(raising from 32 in steps of 8 to 96) with powerstrip. Tried moving the card to all available pci-slots(the audigy is the ONLY pci-card in my rig, its just the audigy and my 9800 in its agp-slot).
Tried all different driver revs for the audigy, from the one on the included cd up to the latest. Tried changing that pci-clock setting in the bios(hidden setting), to no avail.
I've run memtest86+,windows memory diagnostics and prime95 as well as a few other diagnostic tools from the UBCD for hours on end without any problems whatsoever.(at first I was inclined to believe that the psu might have something to do with this, but I don't believe that anymore, the problem seems to happen to people no matter WHAT psu they use.)
    Facts:
    1. With the audigy2 in place my machine WILL freeze with the 0000009c-error sooner or later(might take hours, might happen in 5 minutes). It does however seem to be related to using the soundcard(just sitting in windows without using the soundcard for ANY sounds keeps the box alive a lot longer than playing BF1942 and using teamspeak)
    2. When I remove the Audigy2 from my system and use the on-board sound the lock-ups stop, no more machine check exceptions.(this isn't a solution, its a workaround)
    3. Some people have the same problem while other people seem to be able to use audigys in their machines.
My guess is that it might be related to what model/version of audigy one has, that earlier audigy/audigy2-cards wont work properly...
So, those of you that have the problem, what model/ver of audigy/audigy2 do you have?
    Mine is a SB0240.(random 0000009C-errors)

Model number on the box or the white sticker on top of the card.
    Same card here Audigy2 (SB0240).
I don't remember the error message I got but it was something about a conflict with the nVidia RAID controller. It was right after updating the Creative drivers so I immediatly removed ALL Creative startup programs and services with msconfig. No more problems. It runs great. There is the occassional rare "burp" through the speakers but its no problem.
In "msconfig" uncheck the following under the "Startup" tab.
    CTCMSgo
    CTDVDDet
    CTHelper
    CTsysVol
    SBDrvDet
regsvr32 (no problem so far with unchecking this one. I noticed there's a copy of it in one of the Creative folders. regsvr32.exe is a command line program used to register and unregister object linking and embedding (OLE) controls such as dynamic-link library (DLL) or ActiveX Controls (OCX) files that are self-registerable. This may be necessary to troubleshoot some issues with Windows, Microsoft Internet Explorer, or other programs.
Attention the same filename is used by some spyware programs.)
In fact the only startups I've left running in msconfig are...
    nvraidservice
    NvCpl
    zlclient  (ZoneAlarm)
Next click the "Services" tab in msconfig - check "Hide All Microsoft Services" and uncheck "Creative Service for CD-Rom access".
I guess it should also be added that a couple of days ago my system became extremely sluggish and had difficulty starting up. There were a couple of BSOD's. Pressing on the back of the case near the PCI slots caused the lights to flicker. Uh-Oh! Apparently the Audigy2 card was a little loose in its slot. Reseating the card seems to have solved that problem.

Nothing has ever been overclocked on this system.
Everything is plugged into a Belkin Surgemaster powerbar.
I haven't mentioned the power supply. I'll get to that. I have been using an ANTEC NEOPOWER 480W POWER SUPPLY (ATX12V  DUAL 12V RAILS ACTIVE PFC W/ DETACHABLE OUTPUT CABLES) for about a year on this system without
any issues. One morning, I wake up, hit the power button on my coolermaster case, and nothing happens.
CPU fan won't even spin. Nothing happens.
    O.k., blown power supply, I think . . . .
So I take out my Antec and put it in another system. That system turns on
    without any problems.
    Hmm . . .
I come here, and I read posts about
potential compatibility issues with Antec power supplies. But if it's a compatibility
issue why was my system working for about a year?
    O.k., fine. I'll buy a Enermax 535W EG565P-VE FMA 24P (115/230 VAC) power supply.
I just plug it into the mainboard (nothing else). Hit the power button . . .
The CPU fan spins for half a second, and then nothing.
Did my motherboard just suddenly die for no reason?
    Any suggestions?

Pull the AC plug from PSU and set cmos in clear position with battery removed for atlest 20 minutes perhaps longer .
Then try to post the system barebone .
Just cpu,1 pcs memory in slot 1 , gfx card , and keyboard in PS2.
No usb devices at all including card reader and no pci cards harddisks or cdoms/dvd/floppy.
It could also be caused by a short or a malfunctioning fan connected to mobo.
Try to disconnect all case fans from mobo headers if you have any connected to additional fan holders.
The chipset fan can also be disconnected momentarily just to see if it posts.
If none of this helps , replace cmos battery and try again .
