MSI K8N Neo2-FX - WinXP-sp2 USB problem

HI!
Two weeks ago I Bought this mainboard, and I can't install the Usb2 driver.
I have Windows XP with service pack 2, and it doesn't recognize the Usb ports as Usb2.
On the driver disc which were provided with the mainboard there were a driver, but only for the English version of WinXP-sp1.
My question is: Where can I get the drivers I need, or what did I wrong?
I downloaded all the stuff from this homepage, but these doesn't contain the %!!/@^ Usb drivers
Pleeeeeeeese help!

Well, the problem is still on.
1) I read carefully the Instruction manual, and it says that there is no mistake, I REALLY have usb 2.0 ports. (8 pieces to be precise)
2) In the BIOS I didn't find that option you mentioned.
There are three options related to the Usb:
  a) Onchip Usb (enabled/disabled)
  b) USB kb/storeage support (enabled/disabled)
  c) USB Mouse support (enabled/disabled)
I tried all the possible combination, but when i connect my pendrive to the computer it says (I don't know what the english Windows say, but I try to translate): This device is capable work faster, if you attach it to an USB2.0 port. (instead of saying "High speed USB Device is connected to a slower port", which appaers when using USB1.1 ports on an other comp.)
What can you suggest????
(I have sp2 with latest drivers possible)

  • K8N Neo2 Plat - WinXP SP2 IEEE 1394 Problem???

    I use the k8n Neo2 Platinum with a Athlon 64 3500+ cpu
I installed WinXP with SP1 an everything was and worked ok (there was a VIA OHCI IEEE 1394 Compilant Controller and a IEEE 1394 net adapter)
When I upgraded to  WinXP SP2 there was no IEEE 1394 net adapter any more, but the controller in the Device Manager was ok. Sometimes thought if i uninstall the controller an do a check for new hardware changes the controller appears with a Code 10 error, but when WinXP starts no problem appears in the Device Manager...????
Please help i need the Firewire connection to plug my VideoCamera.
If there is any driver for the IEEE 1394 please email or PM me the url.
    thanx Nick
PS. If i arrange the devices by connection type no IRQ conflict seems to exists.
Sorry for the "english" but i'm from greece.
    Please help....

I manage to make the IEEE 1394 Net adapter appear.
I changed every file that is about ieee1394 of SP2 with the SP1 files but before i restart i renamed sp2.cab (into hidden folder) file because if any change happens it restores the original files on restart. Now both IEEE1394 Controller and Net Adapter appear into the Device Manager but when i connect any device into firewire port is not recognized. I tried my camcoder to another pc with WinXP SP2 and when i connect it a ballon appears and sain that a Digital Device is connected. To my PC nothing happens.

  • MSI k8n Neo2 Platinium Stutter Problem

    Hi
2 weeks ago I upgrade my system from AMD2500+ to AMD64 3000. And problems started. My first MOBO was k8t NEo2. I gave it back because of stutter. Everybody said that was PSU problem and I changed my PSU to TAGAN 480W and MOBO to MSI k8n Neo2 Platinium.
After a Fresh winXP install, SP2, nforce drivers and nvidia drivers. I test the system with Flight Simulator 9 and stutter is there
I tried lots of things. Uninstalled all pci cards. checked irqs, used pci latency tool no success.
    Any ideas?

turn off any virus checker for a start
Theres a heck of alot of things that can cause stuttering..
turn off agp fast writes, turn off cool and quiet, turn off dynamic overclocking, ensure up to date gfx and platform drivers, ensure you are not overheating, what temps have you got on cpu and gfx?
do not run corecenter or any other background app that might have bugs in it, check the cpu usage of all running tasks, something might be spiking and causing stutter.
what drivers are you running with (list all)
is it only when playing networked or standalone too? what directx have you got installed? have you run memtest86 and checked your memory? are you overclocking at all? are you overclocking too much?
what are your benchmark scores for 3dmark 03? do they compare to others with similar spec?

  • Reboot problem with MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum and 250 GB SATA HDD

I'm having a "reboot" problem with my MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum. After turning my system on it will run without any problems, until I reboot. After a reboot it will always hang after the initial windows-bootscreen. The HDD-light will remain on. If, instead of going into Windows XP SP2, I try to enter the BIOS after a reboot (DEL) the system will also hang (blank screen with blinking cursor).
It started doing this after I installed the Maxtor 250 GB SATA disk. Before, I didn't have problems rebooting. If I disconnect the Maxtor drive I can reboot and enter BIOS and Windows each and every time. Reconnecting the Maxtor 250 GB SATA drive will return the reboot problem. I always have to use the power swith to get a working system again. It's not enough to do a hard reset (this has the same effect as rebooting).
Here are the details of my system:
    MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum (BIOS 1.B)
    Athlon 64 3200+ (Winchester, 2 Ghz, 512 KB cache, stepping DH-D0)
    2 x Kingston KVR400X64C25/512, 512 MB, DDR, PC3200 (2,5-3-3-8 T1)
Asus Radeon AX800 Pro (256 MB)
    PSU Antec Sonata 380W
HDD Maxtor 80Gb ATA (6Y080P0, Pri Master)
    HDD Seagate 250Gb SATA (ST3200822AS)
HDD Maxtor 250Gb SATA (6V250F0 - jumpered in SATA150 mode, the mobo wouldn't work with the drive in SATA300-mode)
Aopen COM5232/AAH Pro CD-Writer ATA (Sec Master)
BenQ DW1640 DVD-Writer ATA (Sec Slave)
P.S. The NVidia IDE-drivers are NOT installed. System is not overclocked.

Thank you for all the replies. Upgrading to the latest Nvidia IDE-drivers did not fix my problem. Moving to other SATA-ports did not help either. Upgrading the mobo's BIOS is not really an option (I'm using one version before the most recent and there isn't anything in the fixlist of the latest BIOS).
Now I've contacted Maxtor for (hopefully) a new firmware.

Hello again i foudn how to raid them, and now i got a new problem.
When i connect all my hdd's the computer goes blank in the winxp startup installation, just before i get to chose where to install winxp pro, i stoppes to respond, and that is when i load both driver's on the diskette, the raid and the storage driver that is, hope you guy's can help.
    this is my sytem.
    Msi K8n Neo2 54g Platium
    Amd 64Bit 3500+
    1024 Mb Geil Pc 4400
    2*160 Gb sata Seagate
    1*250 Gb sata Wd
    1*120 Gb ide Maxtor
    1*120 Gb ide Seagate
    sony Dvd burner
before they werent raid'ed and every thing was ok, now i raid those 2 160gb seagate, and when all is connected, it stoppes to respond.

Don't know if this helps, but your getting it anyway
When installing windows don't have any Hard drives in front of your raid array, assuming that's where your putting your OS . Unplug them whilst windows is installed. This is due to the fact that windows places %systemdrive% as the first drive it sees (e.g 1'st master) , meaning it will be C: and hosts the os boot files .
    (Taken from Syar2003)
Therefore if installing your raid on Sata 3/4 unplug all IDE Hard Drives plus SATA 2/3.
Once windows is installed Plug 'em all back in

  • Problem on boot MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum

I am an italian lover of MSI motherboards.
After I bought a MSI KT3 Ultra Aru, then MSI K7N2 Delta ILSR and now I have a K8N Neo2 Platinum.
    My hardware are:
    MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum
    Athlon 64 3200 Winchester
Corsair XMS 1024 TWINX 3200 PLL
Maxtor Diamond Plus 9 80 Gb
    Asus Radeon 9600XT.
The problem is that at the power on the bios don't start. The LED on D-Bracket are three green and one red. On the manual this error are written:
    Inizializing Video Interface
This will start detecting CPU clock, checking type of video onboard. Then, detect and initialize the video adapter.
This problem is frequent for my motherboard. However not always.
I attend your answer for this problem.
Thank you for all and for my english school.

    Hi Italiano,
    Welcome to the forum.
Have you details of your power supply. please show Maximum 3.3v,5v & 12v.
These are usually on the side of the power unit.
    try:-
    1) Enter bios Cell Menu - HT change from 5 ---> 4 using +/- keys. Save & exit.
If it still doesn't boot try:-
    2) Re-inserting your Asus Radeon 9600XT. Sometimes they don't go in correctly.
    3) See if you can boot with just 1 memory module in slot 1.

  • News - BIG PROBLEM - MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum - DOES NOT POWER!!!

    Hi to everyone.
I'm a proudly owner of a MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum that in one year gave me no problem until yesterday morning.
I used the computer in the night before and when I finished I turned it off and I went to bed.
Yesterday morning I found the power led blinking (like if the system was in standby), and there was no way to turn the PC on.
I even took off the battery for more than 12 hours and I left only minimal components installed:
the video card (Gainward GeForce 6800),
    the psu (Antec TruePower 550W),
    1 x 512 MB Ram Crucial Ballistix,
and I checked them into another computer and they work perfectly.
I tried shorting the MB power switch pins with a screwdriver and I've even tried to power on the system without the Memory or the Video Card... I've tried everything that came across my mind with no efforts!!!!
Every time I give power to the MB appens only that the power led starts blinking, but pressing the button the PC doesn't turn on.
PLEASE HELP ME... I really don't know what else to do!!!
    Thanks,
    Alberto

    Hi thanks for the answers.
I do have a D-Bracket, but my problem is not that the system does not boot or does not post... my system DOES NOT POWER ON (!!!!), so d-bracket is useless!
When I plug the system power    the only thing that happens is that the power led starts blinking (with the system still in soft-off), and if I press the power switch button nothing happens!
I've the bios for 7025 v1.8 and the settings where for OFF on power-loss ond pressing the button (can't rememeber if it was more than 4 sec) was meant to turn off the computer, but considering that I un-powered the pc more than once without the MB battery the settings should be factory default by now.
I went through the Windows-XP shut-down system, and i could not be an electrical problem as I always used the PC with a pretty good UPS unit.
Right now these are the full specs of my sytem:
    - MB MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum nForce3 Ultra
    - GAINWARD 6800 2600 GLH 256 MB Ram
    - PSU Antec TruPower 550 W
    - CPU AMD64 3500+ core Winchester @11*210 Mhz (this cpu has never overclocked very well)
    - HEATSINK Thermalright XP-90 with a 12 Cm Enermax Fan (CPU temp in always below 55 °C when stressed)
    - 1 x 512 Mb RAM Crucial Ballistix DDR400 optimized for  MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum
I left only these things inside my computer in the hope that it would turn on... it did not work. I tested each component but the MB, and they work perfectly.
    Again...
Thanks for you efforts, any help will be appreciated.
    Alberto.
All parts have been tested: CPU/RAM/GFX/PSU/HD/DVD,  just not the MOBO ?
Checked if the MOBO is shorting in the case ?
Have you tried using the reset switch as power, on/off switch ?  I've seen before when the power switch stops working (lose/bad wire busted spring) after swapping  reset to power, then the system turned on. Worth a try, as sending it back to USA won't be cheap. If its over 1 year old it mite not be covered by the re-seller and or MSI. Best to check this out as law and warranty is different from country to country.
    Good Luck

  • MSI K8N NEO2 Problems problems..

    Hi,
I bought a MSI K8N Neo2 (Antec 480W PSU Lian Li Case 6800GT). Got major problems with it, Mouse and Keyboard don't seem to work on power on often. Also when they do work, there are stability problems (no overclocking stock AMD cpu fan).
does this sound like it needs RMAing? anyone else seen similar problems or got suggestions to a fix?
    Cheers

Usual advice applies, have you tried running it outside of the case incase it is shorting out on something?

  • MSI K8N Neo2 and USB 2.0

Does this MB have USB 2.0? When I plug in my iPod it says that the device could run faster if I plugged it into a USB 2.0 port. How do I fix this? Thanks
    Chris

    Gadgets,
Before you update your BIOS please do following:
1- Insure that you do not have older legacy USB peripherals (V 1.X) plugged in next to your Ipod 2.0 USB connection.  Pluging in a USB 1.x connector next to a USB 2.0 connector can drag all transfers to the lowest USB 1.x transfer rate.
2- Do not guess at your USB transfwer rate. Download Sandra Lite 2005 (SR3) from Sisoftware here (it's free): http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=177
once you done so install it and use the File System Benchmark program to find out exactly what your Ipod USB connection is achieving in MB/s. A USB 2.0 connection should give you a 32 or greater MB/s transfer rate.
3- Don't MESS with your BIOS UNTIL YOU are absolutely sure of the procedures to follow.  Here is some reference links:

    First post, whoo hooo
So what version of BIOS are u running?  I recently installed the two newest versions 2.0 and 2.1, and they both give me problems.  With the latest (2.1) I'm getting the same error as you.  Returning back to previous BIOS fixed my problems.  Oh yeah, my RAM is Kingston Hyper-X, so i don't think thats your problem.
Let me know if you fix it, thats why im here, .

  • MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum; ethernet probs!?

    Hey guys,
I'm having problems getting my DSL hooked up to my new PC. I'm using a MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum, and according to my ISP phone-tech, the problem is with my "NIC".??
When examining the back of the PC, the slot where my ethernet cord is connected is green accompanied by yellow blinking. All lights on the Speedstream 5100 modem itself are green... No probs in the device manager... Switched ethernet cable from top to bottom port... Flahsed/Updated my BIOS from ver1.5 to ver1.8... Still have blinking yellow light... unable to connect to the internet on my new PC.
(Blinking light appears on both (top & bottom) ethernet ports when i have it plugged in)
Can someone point me in the direction of what to do / which drivers i need to install/uninstall...!?
    Need help... Any is welcome.
    The PC: Athlon 3500+ / 1 GB RAM / 80GB SATA WD / 250 GB 16M Cache IDE Maxtor / Geforce 6800GT / MSI K8N Nforce 2 Platinum

Doh, i seem to have taken a few step backwards...!
I returned the modem for another (brand = 2-wire gateway)... Still unable to connect; problems are similar, but let me tell you....
I have uninstalled all nvidia drivers --- went back to the drivers on CD.   In Device Manager all devices are OK.  I have both the nvidia LAN & MAC LAN ports enabled.  Everything seems to be default settings (exception: i disabled windows firewall).  Also I did not install nvidia FIREWALL option during install.
I plug in new modem... it boots, but middle light (broadband link light) is solid orange.  According to the 2-wire site/faq
    --- Broadband Link light ---
Solid orange - The HomePortal has established a physical broadband connection but was not able to successfully connect to your Internet Service Provider, or has not yet been configured. (can't PPPoE login. Username/Password failure or the other end is fubared.)
With this set-up; i am unable to run REPAIR on nvidia LAN connection (unable to restore IP); under the nvidia connection details: packets are being sent, but none recieved...
Ok, now get this.... I plug ethernet cord into the MAC LAN port; go to Network Connections; packets are being sent/recieved  //// I am able to repair the connection.... yet the broadband link light = solid orange still!!
Next, I use the USB connection for the new modem, it asks for software/drivers... place install CD in... all lights = green... I AM able to connect!!!!!!!
probably, problem was i didn't load software from CD with the ethernet connection goin... !? (me = idiot !)
I'm gonna reinstall WinXP now... and hope to duplicate results, but on the ethernet wire (running SBC software)... if all else fails, i'll just prob set up the USB set-up..!
    Thanks for your patience fellas...

  • MSI K8N Neo2 Plat. + Audigy2 woes

    Hi.
I'm getting the dreaded Machine Check Exception(0000009c) on my rig and it seems no amount of tinkering can get this combo to play nicely, and as I know there are quite a few more of you with the same problem out there(and a lot who DON'T have this problem) I thought it could be interesting to find out a bit more about this.
    My box:
    A64 3500+(newcastle)
    MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum
2x512Mb (Kingston HyperX PC3000...old stuff from my KT333-mobo)
    Audigy 2 (SB0240)
    HIS 9800Pro Ice-Q
+other stuff that  doesn't affect the problem
    Running WindowsXP SP2
I've tried diff bioses (1.2,1.3,1.4b1), I've tried tweaking the pci-latency of the audigy(raising from 32 in steps of 8 to 96) with powerstrip. Tried moving the card to all available pci-slots(the audigy is the ONLY pci-card in my rig, its just the audigy and my 9800 in its agp-slot).
Tried all different driver revs for the audigy, from the one on the included cd up to the latest. Tried changing that pci-clock setting in the bios(hidden setting), to no avail.
I've run memtest86+,windows memory diagnostics and prime95 as well as a few other diagnostic tools from the UBCD for hours on end without any problems whatsoever.(at first I was inclined to believe that the psu might have something to do with this, but I don't believe that anymore, the problem seems to happen to people no matter WHAT psu they use.)
    Facts:
    1. With the audigy2 in place my machine WILL freeze with the 0000009c-error sooner or later(might take hours, might happen in 5 minutes). It does however seem to be related to using the soundcard(just sitting in windows without using the soundcard for ANY sounds keeps the box alive a lot longer than playing BF1942 and using teamspeak)
    2. When I remove the Audigy2 from my system and use the on-board sound the lock-ups stop, no more machine check exceptions.(this isn't a solution, its a workaround)
    3. Some people have the same problem while other people seem to be able to use audigys in their machines.
My guess is that it might be related to what model/version of audigy one has, that earlier audigy/audigy2-cards wont work properly...
So, those of you that have the problem, what model/ver of audigy/audigy2 do you have?
    Mine is a SB0240.(random 0000009C-errors)

    Same card here Audigy2 (SB0240).
I don't remember the error message I got but it was something about a conflict with the nVidia RAID controller. It was right after updating the Creative drivers so I immediatly removed ALL Creative startup programs and services with msconfig. No more problems. It runs great. There is the occassional rare "burp" through the speakers but its no problem.
In "msconfig" uncheck the following under the "Startup" tab.
    CTCMSgo
    CTDVDDet
    CTHelper
    CTsysVol
    SBDrvDet
regsvr32 (no problem so far with unchecking this one. I noticed there's a copy of it in one of the Creative folders. regsvr32.exe is a command line program used to register and unregister object linking and embedding (OLE) controls such as dynamic-link library (DLL) or ActiveX Controls (OCX) files that are self-registerable. This may be necessary to troubleshoot some issues with Windows, Microsoft Internet Explorer, or other programs.
Attention the same filename is used by some spyware programs.)
In fact the only startups I've left running in msconfig are...
    nvraidservice
    NvCpl
    zlclient  (ZoneAlarm)
Next click the "Services" tab in msconfig - check "Hide All Microsoft Services" and uncheck "Creative Service for CD-Rom access".
I guess it should also be added that a couple of days ago my system became extremely sluggish and had difficulty starting up. There were a couple of BSOD's. Pressing on the back of the case near the PCI slots caused the lights to flicker. Uh-Oh! Apparently the Audigy2 card was a little loose in its slot. Reseating the card seems to have solved that problem.

    bhanja_trinanjan,
If you can get 2.3.3.6 Mushkin, OCZ, or Corsair, then you would be the set.
PC-3200 or higher would be the way to go. If you ever plan on overclocking, then PC-4000 is the best option.

Thanks for your help. I am trying to locate Corsair dealers in Kolkata(My hometown). Are there any known issues with the K8N Neo 2 FX? I bought this motherboard just a few days back and I am facing so many problems.
Does this motherboard undervolt the AGP and RAM slots? Will I have to increase AGP and DDR voltage to make my system stable? Doesn't the raising of these voltages shorten the life of the video card and ram modules? I want to buy Corsair/OCZ/Mushkin. But in case it's unavailable, will Kingston RAM lead to an unstable system?

Nothing has ever been overclocked on this system.
Everything is plugged into a Belkin Surgemaster powerbar.
I haven't mentioned the power supply. I'll get to that. I have been using an ANTEC NEOPOWER 480W POWER SUPPLY (ATX12V  DUAL 12V RAILS ACTIVE PFC W/ DETACHABLE OUTPUT CABLES) for about a year on this system without
any issues. One morning, I wake up, hit the power button on my coolermaster case, and nothing happens.
CPU fan won't even spin. Nothing happens.
    O.k., blown power supply, I think . . . .
So I take out my Antec and put it in another system. That system turns on
    without any problems.
    Hmm . . .
I come here, and I read posts about
potential compatibility issues with Antec power supplies. But if it's a compatibility
issue why was my system working for about a year?
    O.k., fine. I'll buy a Enermax 535W EG565P-VE FMA 24P (115/230 VAC) power supply.
I just plug it into the mainboard (nothing else). Hit the power button . . .
The CPU fan spins for half a second, and then nothing.
Did my motherboard just suddenly die for no reason?
    Any suggestions?

Pull the AC plug from PSU and set cmos in clear position with battery removed for atlest 20 minutes perhaps longer .
Then try to post the system barebone .
Just cpu,1 pcs memory in slot 1 , gfx card , and keyboard in PS2.
No usb devices at all including card reader and no pci cards harddisks or cdoms/dvd/floppy.
It could also be caused by a short or a malfunctioning fan connected to mobo.
Try to disconnect all case fans from mobo headers if you have any connected to additional fan holders.
The chipset fan can also be disconnected momentarily just to see if it posts.
If none of this helps , replace cmos battery and try again .
