MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum cant upgrade to BIOS 1.4, Windows wont boot.

Hello
I have a MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum and I cant upgrade to BIOS 1.4.  I have tried everything and cannot get Windows XP to boot with BIOS 1.4.
I have reset the BIOS, set defaults, cleared the battery etc but when I load BIOS 1.4 (from a 98SE an ME boot dish and even from the Live Update?
The only solution is to rebuild Windows after loading BIOS 1.4???
Help

Hi !
Well, I have that problem, too. I think the reason is a new RAID-BIOS-Version built in the BIOS-Update. I´ve tried the beta-versions V1.51 and V1.5X, too - but they won´t run anyway.
My WinXp hangs while booting (before the WINDOWS-XP-Logo appears, or while fading in...). I cannot reinstall Windows completely because, when I install the 2 raid-drivers, the installation routine hangs before the licensetext - when I don´t install the drivers i cannont install on the raid-drive (beacuase the installation routine shows 2 hdds).
I think, a new driver will solve this problem, but I don´t know where to find it....

  • MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum slows down

    Hi,
I have a little problem with my new K8N Neo2 Platinum. I installed Windows XP and the newest nForce drivers but if I copy files over LAN (tested both LAN-Ports) or install big applications my music played with winamp slows down. It's played with half speed. In addition to that my mouse pointer is very slow. After the setup or copying files everything is how it should be again. How can I solve this problem?
    My system:
    AMD Athlon64 3500+ (Winchester)
MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum-54G (tried different bios releases)
    1024MB Corsair XMS Twinx DDR500
    ATi Radeon 9800 Pro
    2 80GB Maxtor S-ATA (DMA Mode enabled)
Creative Labs SoundBlaster Live! Player 5.1

    Hello,
I copy files to my bro sometimes, 5Gb - all the steam GCF files for CS/HL/CSS/HL2.
    My network usage is 80%-92%
My CPU usage is always under 15%.
It is worse when using 512Mb but as you have 1Gb it shouldn't be bad.
Check in the device manager, your cd drives should be set to DMA mode.

  • When will the MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum BIOS 1.C be released?

    Hello
When will the MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum BIOS 1.C be released?
    Thanks
    FearTec

Don´t know the reason for you guys, for updating bios, but basically I would recommend Syars modded EasyBios, based on the 1C3 (1C0) version.
    Check out the link in Syars sig or read it here;
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=59711.0
and read about the differant version and you´ll get a pretty good idea whats changed and added.

  • Reboot problem with MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum and 250 GB SATA HDD

I'm having a "reboot" problem with my MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum. After turning my system on it will run without any problems, until I reboot. After a reboot it will always hang after the initial windows-bootscreen. The HDD-light will remain on. If, instead of going into Windows XP SP2, I try to enter the BIOS after a reboot (DEL) the system will also hang (blank screen with blinking cursor).
It started doing this after I installed the Maxtor 250 GB SATA disk. Before, I didn't have problems rebooting. If I disconnect the Maxtor drive I can reboot and enter BIOS and Windows each and every time. Reconnecting the Maxtor 250 GB SATA drive will return the reboot problem. I always have to use the power swith to get a working system again. It's not enough to do a hard reset (this has the same effect as rebooting).
Here are the details of my system:
    MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum (BIOS 1.B)
    Athlon 64 3200+ (Winchester, 2 Ghz, 512 KB cache, stepping DH-D0)
    2 x Kingston KVR400X64C25/512, 512 MB, DDR, PC3200 (2,5-3-3-8 T1)
Asus Radeon AX800 Pro (256 MB)
    PSU Antec Sonata 380W
HDD Maxtor 80Gb ATA (6Y080P0, Pri Master)
    HDD Seagate 250Gb SATA (ST3200822AS)
HDD Maxtor 250Gb SATA (6V250F0 - jumpered in SATA150 mode, the mobo wouldn't work with the drive in SATA300-mode)
Aopen COM5232/AAH Pro CD-Writer ATA (Sec Master)
BenQ DW1640 DVD-Writer ATA (Sec Slave)
P.S. The NVidia IDE-drivers are NOT installed. System is not overclocked.

Thank you for all the replies. Upgrading to the latest Nvidia IDE-drivers did not fix my problem. Moving to other SATA-ports did not help either. Upgrading the mobo's BIOS is not really an option (I'm using one version before the most recent and there isn't anything in the fixlist of the latest BIOS).
Now I've contacted Maxtor for (hopefully) a new firmware.

  • New CPU, Msi K8n neo2 platinum - no boot!

    Greetings!
    I got the following components:
    *MSI K8N NEO2 Platinum -54g MB
    *4 x 512mb Geil Value Ram
    *Gainward 7800GS+ Bliss 512mb AGP
    *Samsung Spinpoint 500gb SATA HD
    *Corsair 620HX (620W) PSU
*CPU AMD Opteron 180 Dual Core (upgrade from AMD 3000+ Winchester)
I recently upgraded my PC with a new HD, more ram, new CU Fan/heatsink - on an AMD 3000+ (Winchester). PC wouldn't boot - I did however manage to fix it. I think it was because of the ram, one of the bricks had some dust on it. Since then, my pc has worked 100%...
Today, however, I got a new PSU and CPU in the mail! A Corsair 620W PSU and an AMD OPTERON 180 Dual. I carefully cleaned the surface on the heatsink etc, and applied an appropriate amount of "Arctic Alumina" on the CPU/heatsink (as followed per instructions from Arctic). When I have connected everything, and fire my pc up - it just won't boot.. (The monitor won't light up).
Since then, I have carefully checked all wires, unplugged/replugged etc.
    But it just won't boot!
I do have the latest bios (1.0D), so it should support my CPU.
I should mention some "weird" things, though. When I try to boot up, everything seems normal (All fans are running), but there are no lights on my case! And I can't turn off the PC while holding down the "power" button on my case. I can't reset either.. as soon as I turn the PC on (by turning on the PSU power switch), the PC starts running. Normally I would have to push the button on my case. ALSO: I have cleared CMOS, still a black screen. And I have tried 2 different monitors, so I know it aint that either.
My old PSU was a Chieftec 360W one (and my case is a Chieftec also). The old PSU was connected to "SFAN2" on my MB,.. my new PSU isn't connected to any "SFAN" at all.. I doubt that has anything to do with the problem though?
Any suggestions on what I might do ?
Edit: D-bracket shows this (Yellow, red, red, yellow):
    BIOS Sign On
    - This will start showing information about logo, processor brand name, etc... - It stops here. No boot screen

Quote from: BOSSKILLER on 14-November-07, 21:14:42
remove power cord from the PSU(else will not work) and Clear CMOS Guide.
leave one memory stick only in a 1st DIMM slot near to CPU socket and try to boot.
    Done & done.
    Still no boot screen :(

XL's is verified by anand to top at 2-3-3 on DDR466 so this would be how much of a oce on a 3700sandy at those timings.
Well the 3700 San Diego har a max multilplier equals 11 and you can use the lower ones also .
So you have more options than one to reach say you set a goal for 2700mhz assuming you have air cooling (2.7ghz seems to be what most aim for without extreme cooling)
HTT reference clock at 233 with memory index 200 times multiplier 11 gives 2530mhz on the cpu and 233mhz/466DDR on the memory .
To maintain same memory speed (around or below 233mhz) with higher cpu frequency you must use a divider by setting max memory speed to 166 etc and use a higher HTT clock reference .
    E.g
    HTT=270
    Multiplier=10
    Memory index=166
    Gives CPU/12 divider
    CPU is then 2.7ghz
    Memory speed = cpuspeed/12 = 2700/12 = 225mhz or DDR450 .
    Multilplier memory index dividers:
    7x with 133 : cpu/11
    8x with 133 : cpu/12
    9X with 133 : cpu/14
    10x with 133 : cpu/15
    11x with 133 : cpu/17
    7x with 166 : cpu/9
    8x with 166 : cpu/10
    9X with 166 : cpu/11
    10x with 166 : cpu/12
    11x with 166 : cpu/13
    7x with 183 : cpu/8
    8x with 183 : cpu/9
    9X with 183 : cpu/10
    10x with 183 : cpu/11
    11x with 183 : cpu/13
    7x with 200 : cpu/7
    8x with 200 : cpu/8
    9X with 200 : cpu/9
    10x with 200 : cpu/10
    11x with 200 : cpu/11
( with 200 you will se the divider is the same as multiplier , thats why some calls this 1:1 )
There are also some tables for the dividers made by orcar wu over at extremesystems in this thread:
    http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=41595&highlight=a64+divider+table]
Using this calculation you can figure out your ram frequency before trying it in the bios .
E.g use 183 mem index/divider with cpu multiplier 10x with 2.7ghz as the target .
    10 x 270 = 2700
    memory will run at
    2700/11 = ~ 245mhz or DDR490

  • Problem on boot MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum

I am an italian lover of MSI motherboards.
After I bought a MSI KT3 Ultra Aru, then MSI K7N2 Delta ILSR and now I have a K8N Neo2 Platinum.
    My hardware are:
    MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum
    Athlon 64 3200 Winchester
Corsair XMS 1024 TWINX 3200 PLL
Maxtor Diamond Plus 9 80 Gb
    Asus Radeon 9600XT.
The problem is that at the power on the bios don't start. The LED on D-Bracket are three green and one red. On the manual this error are written:
    Inizializing Video Interface
This will start detecting CPU clock, checking type of video onboard. Then, detect and initialize the video adapter.
This problem is frequent for my motherboard. However not always.
I attend your answer for this problem.
Thank you for all and for my english school.

    Hi Italiano,
    Welcome to the forum.
Have you details of your power supply. please show Maximum 3.3v,5v & 12v.
These are usually on the side of the power unit.
    try:-
    1) Enter bios Cell Menu - HT change from 5 ---> 4 using +/- keys. Save & exit.
If it still doesn't boot try:-
    2) Re-inserting your Asus Radeon 9600XT. Sometimes they don't go in correctly.
    3) See if you can boot with just 1 memory module in slot 1.

HI! i'm the one wih the raid problem on a k8n neo2....
That's what a i Did.. i unpacked the exe and copy the files in a floppy... question is: if i do that, windows instaler askme for some files that aren't in the .exe, anway it reconices the raid and everithing goes fine until the first BOOT on windos... it shows a blue screen, butremoves it so fast that i cant read it or pause the system. But i know it's a raid problem because if i install it on a ide disk it works.
The nforce3 drivers are almost a year old, and i'm not sure if nforce4 is compatible...
I think the're compatible because if you enter in msi driver download page and select my model, they put the Nforce3 and nforce4 for win64 and my model is only nforce3. The thing is they havent released the nforce3 for WIN 64.... So.. It's normal that win asks me for some files that ain't in the .zip file (i extracted the files o course) and Which driver should i put the Nvidia one year old nforce3 or the new nforce4. (the nforce3 for 32 bits is rejected by windows) or... i have to wait the new nforce3?

  • MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum with Western Digital 750Gb Caviar Green 32mb

Hi all, this is my first post and im a bit of a numbskull when it comes to upgrading, thus this post.
My HDD is on its last legs and I want to get a Western Digital 750Gb Caviar Green 32mb. Im not sure weather it will work with my  MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum (MS-7025). Can anyone help me out? If you have any suggestions for a better HDD to go for that would also be appreciated, Cheers

Burst speeds are high mainly because of the disk's cache. That's the only part of the HDD that can get near the maximum bandwdth of the controller.
The bottleneck for speed is in the fact that the HDD's mechanical properties won't allow it to work faster. With SSD's it is or will be different.
Back to topic: the WD Green is an excellent choice. I've 6 of those running here now, 5 in a NAS and 1 in my pc and they're simply good. Not the fastest, but very stable, quiet and fast enough.

  • News - BIG PROBLEM - MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum - DOES NOT POWER!!!

    Hi to everyone.
I'm a proudly owner of a MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum that in one year gave me no problem until yesterday morning.
I used the computer in the night before and when I finished I turned it off and I went to bed.
Yesterday morning I found the power led blinking (like if the system was in standby), and there was no way to turn the PC on.
I even took off the battery for more than 12 hours and I left only minimal components installed:
the video card (Gainward GeForce 6800),
    the psu (Antec TruePower 550W),
    1 x 512 MB Ram Crucial Ballistix,
and I checked them into another computer and they work perfectly.
I tried shorting the MB power switch pins with a screwdriver and I've even tried to power on the system without the Memory or the Video Card... I've tried everything that came across my mind with no efforts!!!!
Every time I give power to the MB appens only that the power led starts blinking, but pressing the button the PC doesn't turn on.
PLEASE HELP ME... I really don't know what else to do!!!
    Thanks,
    Alberto

    Hi thanks for the answers.
I do have a D-Bracket, but my problem is not that the system does not boot or does not post... my system DOES NOT POWER ON (!!!!), so d-bracket is useless!
When I plug the system power    the only thing that happens is that the power led starts blinking (with the system still in soft-off), and if I press the power switch button nothing happens!
I've the bios for 7025 v1.8 and the settings where for OFF on power-loss ond pressing the button (can't rememeber if it was more than 4 sec) was meant to turn off the computer, but considering that I un-powered the pc more than once without the MB battery the settings should be factory default by now.
I went through the Windows-XP shut-down system, and i could not be an electrical problem as I always used the PC with a pretty good UPS unit.
Right now these are the full specs of my sytem:
    - MB MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum nForce3 Ultra
    - GAINWARD 6800 2600 GLH 256 MB Ram
    - PSU Antec TruPower 550 W
    - CPU AMD64 3500+ core Winchester @11*210 Mhz (this cpu has never overclocked very well)
    - HEATSINK Thermalright XP-90 with a 12 Cm Enermax Fan (CPU temp in always below 55 °C when stressed)
    - 1 x 512 Mb RAM Crucial Ballistix DDR400 optimized for  MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum
I left only these things inside my computer in the hope that it would turn on... it did not work. I tested each component but the MB, and they work perfectly.
    Again...
Thanks for you efforts, any help will be appreciated.
    Alberto.
All parts have been tested: CPU/RAM/GFX/PSU/HD/DVD,  just not the MOBO ?
Checked if the MOBO is shorting in the case ?
Have you tried using the reset switch as power, on/off switch ?  I've seen before when the power switch stops working (lose/bad wire busted spring) after swapping  reset to power, then the system turned on. Worth a try, as sending it back to USA won't be cheap. If its over 1 year old it mite not be covered by the re-seller and or MSI. Best to check this out as law and warranty is different from country to country.
    Good Luck

  • MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum and Venice E6

    Hi!
I have just bought an MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum motherboard and an AMD Athlon64 3000+ processor with Venice E6 core (ADA3000DAA4BW).
Will this mobo boot with that processor? Or do i have to use a Winchester to flash the BIOS first? Personal experiences would be helpful!
    Andres.

Your new board probably came with the 1.9 bios. The new 7025v1B.zip bios (1B only a couple days old) I think is for some of the new X2 AMD Processors. The MSI link to Products/Mainboards/Neo2/Processor Compatibility is now setup to use the 7025v1B.zip bios. As I recall the previous Processor Compatibility Chart for 1.9 bios was OK for all the Venice cores (E6 or not). I think it is only some of the latest E6 bigger models are affected by the latest 1B bios. Maybe someone has the older 1.9 bios Processor Compatibility Chart.
You shouldn't need to use a Winchester, some X2 processors would be recognized as earlier X1 models until the newer bios was installed. I think you should be OK with the 1.9 bios. I have the San Diego 4000+ and my board, one month old, came with the 1.9 bios installed.

    Dear All,
First off.  I am new here so hi to you all
I am new to overclocking.  Please tell me how far I can go for my CPU (RAM I don't plan to), and what settings in bios I need to change (in simple words, don't try me on abbrev too much :P)
    Spec:
    AMD Athlon 64 3200+ 939 Winchester
    MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum
2x512 Samsung PC3200 DDR Dual Channel RAM (I don't plan to OC RAM)
    Antec TruePower 380W (Sonata edition)
BFG GeForce 6800 OC (I don't really plan to OC that either, dunno how)
Would I be able to up from 2.0ghz to 2.2ghz?
Current CPU idle temp: 38 degrees (Arctic Silver 5 applied)
    Thank you!

Will my Antec TruePower 380W power supply provide sufficient power when increasing vcore? Sjould do just fine Will increasing vcore damage anything? Not as long as it stays cool. How much should I increase it by? Just up a .05 at a time and test.
Also, can I lower my HT to even lower like 3x to get more clock speed? Yes but X4 should be good up to 250. Youn need to keep it under 1000. 250 x4 = 1000

  • PS2 mouse with MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum

Me and my uncle both have MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum motherboards and both boards were bought from different places at different times. Both boards are exactly the same and both have the latest 1.4 BIOS.
We're both having the same problem with ps2 mice, I myself am not bothered about this problem but my uncle is so I need help.
Basically when you insert a ps2 mouse into the back of both our pcs, 7 times out of 10 the pc loads windows but the mouse doesnt move. The mouse is completely frozen. When you plug a usb mouse in, i can use that but still the ps2 mouse doesnt move.
When you plug in a ps2 keyboard along with the ps2 mouse, the mouse works everything time but without the ps2 keyboard in, most times the ps2 mouse doesnt work.
We both have no problems with usb devices but the ps2 mouse port (Green) isnt working all the time.
Having a quick look at this forum, i saw this thread.. PS/2 mouse not working exact same problem as me and my uncle.... is there a fix out now for this?
I use a usb mouse anyway and i know if my uncle switches to usb it will work but he shouldnt have to do this, if a board has ps2 support, it should work.

    Quote
Two choices. USB Mouse or RMA it
    What does RMA it mean?
    Quote
The PS/2 ports on any computer can get blown if you plug a PS/2 device when the computer is powered.
I didnt know that, thanks for telling me, i know not to do this in the future.
    Quote
Other than that, check BIOS to see if PS/2 option is enabled!
If ps/2 wasnt enabled in the BIOS, the ps2 devices wouldnt work at all would they? My ps2 keyboard works fine, my uncles ps2 mouse doesnt work sometimes so ps2 must be enabled in the bios.
thanks for the replies, could this be fixed if MSI knew this problem and release a new bios?

  • NOOB -MSI K8N NEO2 Platinum questions

    Hi
I coming from an Intel background but am now considering changing to AMD; i'd like to keep my agp x800xt pe card and get a MSI K8N NEO2 Platinum board but have got a few questions /concerns.
I have looked on several forums including MSI's own forum and noticed people having problems with corsair value select memory modules.
My questions which i'd be grateful for answers to are:
    1. Am gamer and planning to also purchase a 4000+ to put in it - will the board recognise it straight away or will I need to update BIOS..
    2. Want to transfer my current 4x512mb 3200 Corsair Value Select sticks to my new board - will there be any compatibility problems? (cannot afford to buy new memory)
    3. Will I be able to run the memory 200 + ? as heard the boards base clock for a 4000+ is 166
    4. If I can run these at 200 can i do this straight away or will i need to overclock them slowly to get to 200 (will the board see them as 3200 and start at 200?)
    5. Anything else I should know/look out for?
Many thanks to all. My first post here so hello to everyone.

    Hello !!
Let´s try to answer your questions...
    1. It depends on which Bios Version is installed out of the Box, i suggest version 1.8, if you are not using a Venice / Dual-Core or later CPU Core. The advantages of biosses later than version 1.8 are the new Steppings Support and some new Memory Timing Options available in Bios Setup.
    2. I do not know exactly, i think most corsair sticks are running well on this Board if you are not going to overclock. But it depends on which Chips are used your Corsair Modules. What could be a problem is that you are going to use 4 Ram Sticks, because with Winchester Cores you would not be able to run 4 Sticks in PC3200Dual Channel Mode (DDR333), even if your Ram would be 100% compatible with your MOBO. Venice and later Cores are able to handle 4 sticks at 400Mhz DDR clock. Except you own 4 single sided Ram Modules.
    3. Should be possible if your memory likes it.....
    4. No, the Bios will recognize your SPD Timings. So you will have to overclock them from a 166Mhz Memory Divider Base.
