MSI K8N Neo2 S939 recommended ram?

I am considering buying the MSI K8N Neo2 S939 mobo, and would like to know if my current RAM will work well.
I have Corsair PC3200 C2 TwinX (2x512) 2.5-3-3-6.
Thanks in advance for all help.

Make sure you run at 2.75v or 2.8v and judgiung by the posts about the you should be fine. Corsair TwinX seems to work well in the Neo2
ty.
ok so i'll set 2.75 when i get my board.
After updating to the latest bios, are there any other BIOS config matters I should be aware of?
Thanks for all help

[Athlon64] Msi K8N Neo2 Platinum problems with Patriot Ram

    First post, whoo hooo
So what version of BIOS are u running?  I recently installed the two newest versions 2.0 and 2.1, and they both give me problems.  With the latest (2.1) I'm getting the same error as you.  Returning back to previous BIOS fixed my problems.  Oh yeah, my RAM is Kingston Hyper-X, so i don't think thats your problem.
Let me know if you fix it, thats why im here, .

XL's is verified by anand to top at 2-3-3 on DDR466 so this would be how much of a oce on a 3700sandy at those timings.
Well the 3700 San Diego har a max multilplier equals 11 and you can use the lower ones also .
So you have more options than one to reach say you set a goal for 2700mhz assuming you have air cooling (2.7ghz seems to be what most aim for without extreme cooling)
HTT reference clock at 233 with memory index 200 times multiplier 11 gives 2530mhz on the cpu and 233mhz/466DDR on the memory .
To maintain same memory speed (around or below 233mhz) with higher cpu frequency you must use a divider by setting max memory speed to 166 etc and use a higher HTT clock reference .
    E.g
    HTT=270
    Multiplier=10
    Memory index=166
    Gives CPU/12 divider
    CPU is then 2.7ghz
    Memory speed = cpuspeed/12 = 2700/12 = 225mhz or DDR450 .
    Multilplier memory index dividers:
    7x with 133 : cpu/11
    8x with 133 : cpu/12
    9X with 133 : cpu/14
    10x with 133 : cpu/15
    11x with 133 : cpu/17
    7x with 166 : cpu/9
    8x with 166 : cpu/10
    9X with 166 : cpu/11
    10x with 166 : cpu/12
    11x with 166 : cpu/13
    7x with 183 : cpu/8
    8x with 183 : cpu/9
    9X with 183 : cpu/10
    10x with 183 : cpu/11
    11x with 183 : cpu/13
    7x with 200 : cpu/7
    8x with 200 : cpu/8
    9X with 200 : cpu/9
    10x with 200 : cpu/10
    11x with 200 : cpu/11
( with 200 you will se the divider is the same as multiplier , thats why some calls this 1:1 )
There are also some tables for the dividers made by orcar wu over at extremesystems in this thread:
    http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=41595&highlight=a64+divider+table]
Using this calculation you can figure out your ram frequency before trying it in the bios .
E.g use 183 mem index/divider with cpu multiplier 10x with 2.7ghz as the target .
    10 x 270 = 2700
    memory will run at
    2700/11 = ~ 245mhz or DDR490

  • Upgraded RAM on MSI K8N Neo2 lost video output?

I have a MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum mainboard with 1gb ram, started to get blue screen problems and acertained it was a ram module causing this. I decided I would upgrade and have bought some Corsair XMS3200C2Pro ram 2 x 512mb. Installed and rebooted, no video just the flashing green on the monitor switch. I have checked the graphics card but it is still seated and all the cables are firm. Tried taking new ram out and putting old back in - no joy.
Weird thing is I am sure it reboots into windows (my msn get logged out on my laptop) and it sounds like its going through the process but no visuals at all not even bios flash screen.
Any ideas???? I have tried google but nothing there that helps.

This may work.  Try taking out the new Corsair Memory and inserting one stick in slot #1 (closest to cpu) of old memory that you know works.  Reset cmos real carefully (disconnecting power, moving jumper, etc. exactly as in the manual).  If it boots, hit del to enter bios, choose optimized defaults, then go into dimm voltage and raise to 2.75 (ignore any red flashing warning or use 2.7 if you are afraid). F10 and save. Shutdown before reboot.  Disconnect power, open case, insert your corsairs. reconnect power. hopefully this works.  [Is any extra power connector required for gpu properly attached?]  good luck.

  • [MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum] Is the motherboard dead? HOW? What? Hein?

    Hey!
I am having big problems with my MSI K8N Neo2 54G Platinum. It was a really great board until the day the system could not power up. I pressed the button to turn it on and nothing happened. So I shutdown the switch of the PSU and switch it on again, while looking inside the case. This time the CPU and Northbridge fan moved, and the led of the wireless card turned on. But that happens only for half a second. The fans imediatly shut down. I checked if it was the problem of the case button, but it is not 'cause with a direct connection the same happens: the board won't boot. It doesn't even beep. Completely quiet. Any suggestions?
I am sorry for my English and thanks in advance

    200GB Sata
    20A@12v PSU
PS: The computer was working fine 'till this happened.
    Nukke.

Yes it can still be the PSU , e.g not accepting ps_on giving pwr_ok to mobo in-line with the correct timing specs .
It can also be motherboard not sensing pwr_ok from the psu .
The whole startup proceedure of a modern PC is complex and it is more to it than just amps and wattage and a on/off switch.
PSU itself does Power On Self Tests (POST) before the motherboard starts to powerup.
These tests determine if all the voltages are up to design specification and stable before sending a signal to the motherboard.
If the POST completes successfully, a POWER_GOOD or POWER_OK signal is sent to the processor over the POWER_GOOD line.
This signal must be continuously present for the system to operate and, if withdrawn (due to a brownout, for instance), will generate a system RESET.
The system will remain in a continuous RESET mode until the signal is restored. Since the processor initializes in the RESET mode, the system will not start until sensing the PWR_OK signal.
The AMD64 systems is strict to the power up sequence and at startup of a non mobile system
like this desktop motherboard the power state registers in the cpu is to be set/started correctly , and they are initialized with full power.
This aswell as the motherboard and PSUs cooperation of the ps_on/pwr_ok sequence and timing is in-line with
the latest atx spec makes it hard to say exactly where the problem is when things like this happends.
This is one of the major reasons we who replies here recommends "known" PSU brands , not only 12v=30A , cause
that "high enough" amperage don't mean s**it if the PSU is dodgy when it comes to theese other factors.
It's all quite complex , all that needs to be in-line and within given times and values that happens in the system when you hit the PCs on-button .
    It involves sequences , initiations and values done by/in : CPU / p-states /LDT / Memory controller / motherboard / PSU  , and more.
So an investment in a "good" ( known brand , respectable manufacturer, well reputated and with enough amperage ) PSU is a solid investment
that will serve you well for a long time , not only in current rig but down the road also .
Down the road if you also add some reserve for future updates when it comes to the strenght of power on it rails , then you may have goin_on it in several builds and updates.

I have a K8N Neo2-F running with an Antec TrueBlue 2.0 480W Power Supply (specs do not list -5V). The 20 pin and 4 pin connectors are plugged in.
The K8N Neo2-F and the K8N Neo2 Platinum are pretty much the same board, the -F is just missing a few ports, etc...
The quote is my post in the other thread saying the K8N Neo2-F works without the -5V, and that the nearly identical K8N Neo2 Platinum should too as it's the same board. Unfortunately it was overlooked, maybe because my experience was with the -F only.
However a few days ago I just put together a Neo2 Platinum/Opteron 180 system using the COOLER MASTER eXtreme Power RP-600-PCAR which does not have the -5v. So I agree that the Platinum works without that rail. This system works great and I'm typing this reply using it.

If you can get 2.3.3.6 Mushkin, OCZ, or Corsair, then you would be the set.
PC-3200 or higher would be the way to go. If you ever plan on overclocking, then PC-4000 is the best option.
    Take Care,
    Richard
Thanks for your help. I am trying to locate Corsair dealers in Kolkata(My hometown). Are there any known issues with the K8N Neo 2 FX? I bought this motherboard just a few days back and I am facing so many problems.
Does this motherboard undervolt the AGP and RAM slots? Will I have to increase AGP and DDR voltage to make my system stable? Doesn't the raising of these voltages shorten the life of the video card and ram modules? I want to buy Corsair/OCZ/Mushkin. But in case it's unavailable, will Kingston RAM lead to an unstable system?

Everything is plugged into a Belkin Surgemaster powerbar.
I haven't mentioned the power supply. I'll get to that. I have been using an ANTEC NEOPOWER 480W POWER SUPPLY (ATX12V  DUAL 12V RAILS ACTIVE PFC W/ DETACHABLE OUTPUT CABLES) for about a year on this system without
any issues. One morning, I wake up, hit the power button on my coolermaster case, and nothing happens.
CPU fan won't even spin. Nothing happens.
    O.k., blown power supply, I think . . . .
So I take out my Antec and put it in another system. That system turns on
    without any problems.
    Hmm . . .
I come here, and I read posts about
potential compatibility issues with Antec power supplies. But if it's a compatibility
issue why was my system working for about a year?
    O.k., fine. I'll buy a Enermax 535W EG565P-VE FMA 24P (115/230 VAC) power supply.
I just plug it into the mainboard (nothing else). Hit the power button . . .
The CPU fan spins for half a second, and then nothing.
Did my motherboard just suddenly die for no reason?
    Any suggestions?

Pull the AC plug from PSU and set cmos in clear position with battery removed for atlest 20 minutes perhaps longer .
Then try to post the system barebone .
Just cpu,1 pcs memory in slot 1 , gfx card , and keyboard in PS2.
No usb devices at all including card reader and no pci cards harddisks or cdoms/dvd/floppy.
It could also be caused by a short or a malfunctioning fan connected to mobo.
Try to disconnect all case fans from mobo headers if you have any connected to additional fan holders.
The chipset fan can also be disconnected momentarily just to see if it posts.
If none of this helps , replace cmos battery and try again .

I could think it is the ram but it works in other computers so does the powers. But if I use the Xl Pro Ram then the screen is showing and it lasts never more than 20 sec. With other Ram it goes forever but i get no picture on monitor. And the speacker goes like Beeeeep, Beeeep Beeeeeep, Beeeeeep Beeeeeep. I have Flashed the bios to the 1.3 version, with Hotswap. But it didnt help much.
And by the way the Zalman CNPS7000BCU its metall backplate does not damage the HK because the hole under is to Big.

    Hi !
Well, I have that problem, too. I think the reason is a new RAID-BIOS-Version built in the BIOS-Update. I´ve tried the beta-versions V1.51 and V1.5X, too - but they won´t run anyway.
My WinXp hangs while booting (before the WINDOWS-XP-Logo appears, or while fading in...). I cannot reinstall Windows completely because, when I install the 2 raid-drivers, the installation routine hangs before the licensetext - when I don´t install the drivers i cannont install on the raid-drive (beacuase the installation routine shows 2 hdds).
I think, a new driver will solve this problem, but I don´t know where to find it....

Now... don't LOL, but there is a reason I picked the 3200+ instead of the 3000+, but I can't remember why???
Probably because the 3000+ only has a 9x maximum multiplier, whereas the 3200+ will go to 10x.
2600MHz at 9x means a FSB of 289MHz and ram at 289MHz for best performance.  Will your ram do 289MHz?  Of course you *can* run your memory and fsb async, but I prefer not to.

  • News - BIG PROBLEM - MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum - DOES NOT POWER!!!

    Hi to everyone.
I'm a proudly owner of a MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum that in one year gave me no problem until yesterday morning.
I used the computer in the night before and when I finished I turned it off and I went to bed.
Yesterday morning I found the power led blinking (like if the system was in standby), and there was no way to turn the PC on.
I even took off the battery for more than 12 hours and I left only minimal components installed:
the video card (Gainward GeForce 6800),
    the psu (Antec TruePower 550W),
    1 x 512 MB Ram Crucial Ballistix,
and I checked them into another computer and they work perfectly.
I tried shorting the MB power switch pins with a screwdriver and I've even tried to power on the system without the Memory or the Video Card... I've tried everything that came across my mind with no efforts!!!!
Every time I give power to the MB appens only that the power led starts blinking, but pressing the button the PC doesn't turn on.
PLEASE HELP ME... I really don't know what else to do!!!
    Thanks,
    Alberto

    Hi thanks for the answers.
I do have a D-Bracket, but my problem is not that the system does not boot or does not post... my system DOES NOT POWER ON (!!!!), so d-bracket is useless!
When I plug the system power    the only thing that happens is that the power led starts blinking (with the system still in soft-off), and if I press the power switch button nothing happens!
I've the bios for 7025 v1.8 and the settings where for OFF on power-loss ond pressing the button (can't rememeber if it was more than 4 sec) was meant to turn off the computer, but considering that I un-powered the pc more than once without the MB battery the settings should be factory default by now.
I went through the Windows-XP shut-down system, and i could not be an electrical problem as I always used the PC with a pretty good UPS unit.
Right now these are the full specs of my sytem:
    - MB MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum nForce3 Ultra
    - GAINWARD 6800 2600 GLH 256 MB Ram
    - PSU Antec TruPower 550 W
    - CPU AMD64 3500+ core Winchester @11*210 Mhz (this cpu has never overclocked very well)
    - HEATSINK Thermalright XP-90 with a 12 Cm Enermax Fan (CPU temp in always below 55 °C when stressed)
    - 1 x 512 Mb RAM Crucial Ballistix DDR400 optimized for  MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum
I left only these things inside my computer in the hope that it would turn on... it did not work. I tested each component but the MB, and they work perfectly.
    Again...
Thanks for you efforts, any help will be appreciated.
    Alberto.
All parts have been tested: CPU/RAM/GFX/PSU/HD/DVD,  just not the MOBO ?
Checked if the MOBO is shorting in the case ?
Have you tried using the reset switch as power, on/off switch ?  I've seen before when the power switch stops working (lose/bad wire busted spring) after swapping  reset to power, then the system turned on. Worth a try, as sending it back to USA won't be cheap. If its over 1 year old it mite not be covered by the re-seller and or MSI. Best to check this out as law and warranty is different from country to country.
    Good Luck

  • MSI K8N Neo2 and USB 2.0

Does this MB have USB 2.0? When I plug in my iPod it says that the device could run faster if I plugged it into a USB 2.0 port. How do I fix this? Thanks
    Chris

    Gadgets,
Before you update your BIOS please do following:
1- Insure that you do not have older legacy USB peripherals (V 1.X) plugged in next to your Ipod 2.0 USB connection.  Pluging in a USB 1.x connector next to a USB 2.0 connector can drag all transfers to the lowest USB 1.x transfer rate.
2- Do not guess at your USB transfwer rate. Download Sandra Lite 2005 (SR3) from Sisoftware here (it's free): http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=177
once you done so install it and use the File System Benchmark program to find out exactly what your Ipod USB connection is achieving in MB/s. A USB 2.0 connection should give you a 32 or greater MB/s transfer rate.
3- Don't MESS with your BIOS UNTIL YOU are absolutely sure of the procedures to follow.  Here is some reference links:

  • New to OC - a64 3200+ 939, MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum

    Dear All,
First off.  I am new here so hi to you all
I am new to overclocking.  Please tell me how far I can go for my CPU (RAM I don't plan to), and what settings in bios I need to change (in simple words, don't try me on abbrev too much :P)
    Spec:
    AMD Athlon 64 3200+ 939 Winchester
    MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum
2x512 Samsung PC3200 DDR Dual Channel RAM (I don't plan to OC RAM)
    Antec TruePower 380W (Sonata edition)
BFG GeForce 6800 OC (I don't really plan to OC that either, dunno how)
Would I be able to up from 2.0ghz to 2.2ghz?
Current CPU idle temp: 38 degrees (Arctic Silver 5 applied)
    Thank you!
    dL

Will my Antec TruePower 380W power supply provide sufficient power when increasing vcore? Sjould do just fine Will increasing vcore damage anything? Not as long as it stays cool. How much should I increase it by? Just up a .05 at a time and test.
Also, can I lower my HT to even lower like 3x to get more clock speed? Yes but X4 should be good up to 250. Youn need to keep it under 1000. 250 x4 = 1000
