MSI K8NGM-V and Thermalright XP-120

Does anyone know if thers are compatility issues between the MSI K8NGM-V mainboard and Thermalright XP-120 CPU cooler?
If issues exist, are these issues resolved with the Thermalright XP-90 or SI-120?
Thanks in advance.
/DeCay

MSI K8NGM-V is not a Via board so please do not continue the topic there. I will move it...
Second; If you have one Dimm that is DDR400 and another that is DDR333 then both Dimms will run at the slowest common speed which in this case is DDR333. You really should not max RAM anyways.
Just a point of info... The MB is not a problem for memory timings anyways. The memory controller is not on the MB in a K8 based system. It is inside of the CPU and you have to conform to the CPU's RAM controller for what you may or may not use for RAM. There are many levels of memory controllers built into the various K8 CPU's so you should get familiar with what your CPU that you have will and won't do for RAM. That will help answer some of your questions.

  • Msi k8n neo2 platinum & thermalright xp90, 120

Is the Msi K8N neo2 platinum compatible with the thermalright xp90 or thee xp120 heatsinks?

There a lot about the thermalright discussed at the end of this thread:

It is favorable, especially regarding ease of installation.

  • P35 Platinum and Thermalright 120 Extreme Not Exactly

I am pretty biased when it comes to air cooling, so I ordered my Thermalright before I selected my motherboard.  Both MSI and Thermalright says they should work together.  I would give it a  .  I finished my build last night and went through a few head scratches before I gave up and went with a less than optimal resolution.
I installed the cooler with the fan pointed to the rear to create airflow from the front fans out through the back fans.  The problem I had is one of the fan clips (the one aspect I don't like about Thermalright coolers) is wedged up against one of the round heatpipes.  I could have zip tied the fan on that side, but that wasn't going to be easy either. I could have rotated the cooler and had the fan pointed up or down (I have a top fan that blows out), but it doesn't draw as much as the two back fans. I am hoping and believing that the side pressure that the clip exerts on the cooler or the NB circupipe will not impact the cooling of either the CPU or chipsets. The heatpipe is solid, the CPU cooler is screwed down (although it can rotate).

Glue a penny onto the bottom of the mounting retention clip. Google Ultra-120 penny mod for more details.
As for rotating the cooler, remember, heat rises, not goes sideways.

  • Thermalright XP-120 with MSI K8N NEO4 Platinum Mainboard

    Greetings,
Can anybody tell me if they have configured the Thermalright XP-120 heatsink with an MSI K8N NEO4 Platinum Mainboard. I intend on fitting the AMD Athlon 64 3500+ CPU. I need to clarify if the heatsink/fan will impact on populating the DIMM slots, or any other aspect of configuration.

The hype was these boards would be available at the begining of December, and that, after some minor delays/setbacks.  I've been playing with parts ment for the NV4 based systems since the begining of December.   MSI used to send me test boards direct from Taiwan to debug and stress--hell, I couldn't even get them to answer emails let alone send a test board.

  • MSI P6N Platinum and e4300

I just received my new MSI P6N SLi platinum along with a brand spanking new 8800GTS.
I am currently running an e4300 in a cheapo ECS board I got as a package from Fry's 8 months back. I am running the processor with the infamous BSEL mod to unlock the FSB.
Does it matter with the new board if I keep the BSEL mod? Will it hurt my ability to OC? I am shooting for somewhere in the 3.0 to 3.2 Ghz mark as I am an avid gamer.
Haven't found a lot of information on using the mod outside of the ECS boards, so really in the dark here.

Hmm so I spent a good chunk of time messing with it, and I am a bit disappointed. My problem seems to be heat, but I am hitting that wall much quicker than I expected.
Remember I am using a antec 180 case with a zalman 7000 alu/cu HS with arctic silver 5 thermal grease. Also my memory is DDR2800 Ballistix which seem fine with a linked 1:1 ratio.
I am using coretemp to read the temps and both prime95 and orthos to test for stability/heat.
I am running everything at a 9x multi on my e4300
I tested up to 2.86 ghz with a vcore increase of about .085(which seemed like a lot for that much of an OC for an e4300)
That gave me temps of about 74 on load with two copies of orthos, and about 65 with prime95, and it seemed stable after a couple of hours.
That seemed way too hot from what I have read, so I tried decreasing both the vcore and the FSB.
I played with multiple settings around 2.7ghz and a vcore increase of only about 0.0125. I turned down other voltages I had bumped a bit like my memory. I retested, and the temps haven't gone down at all. Maybe 1 degree at best with both Orthos and Prime95.
So now I am confused... I thought vcore was the greatest contributor to heat, and the difference between 0.0125 and 0.085 is pretty big right?
It also doesn't seem to matter if I run the fan on my Zalman cooler at the highest, or near lowest (once again like a 1 degree difference), or my case fans at lowest or highest.
Would buying a new cooler like the Thermalright ultra 120 make a huge difference here, or is it just my chip?
Maybe reapply the thermal paste and reseat the cooler? Its kind of hard to get in there without twisting it a bit. Arctic Silver's website suggests a thin line down the middle of IHS, but it hard not to spread it when seating the HS.
In addition, what about the NB fan included in the package? Right now I am running without it, but would that make a solid difference, by reducing the vcore needed?
Thoughts would be appreciated.... Its a bit frustrating because I read on other sites of a number of people hitting 3.1-3.2ghz with this chip on this board  on air cooling with much lower temps.

  • MS-7025 & Thermalright XP-120

Anyone out there get the Thermalright XP-120 heatdink to fit aon the Neo2 Platimum (MS-7025)? I know the Thermalright web site says it wont fit, but i have a feeling it will.
    Thanks in advance.

I've been puzzling over this one as well, seems like quite a few people have fitted it, some had to bend capacitors, others didn't. Common opinion I came across was that there are two versions of the board, one has the clearance and the other doesn't, although it also depends on which way you direct the heatpipes. Anyway, my XP-120 just arrived this morning, so it's on the list of things to do over the next few days. Hopefully it'll go on, and be worth it. It's my last attempt to get 3000MHz out of this FX-55, without pumping various cold liquids around my system, not really into that.

  • Problems with wireless usb adapter on MSI K8NGM-V

    Hi!
I have a 3Com (3crusb20075) wireless usb adapter, and a MSI K8NGM-V Mainboard. Very often the usb disconnects from the network and i have to reinsert it to work again. A friend of mine have the exact same adapter and that one fails too. He uses mine without problems. I therefore belive that this is a problem with the usb ports on my mainboard. Have anyone heard of anything like this? I wanted to try to update my bios but i don't have a floppy so msi live update wouldnt let me, and i could find the bios files on the msi webpage so i cant burn them on a bootable cd. Help please
(I trying turning of power save mode on the usb adapter, without any luck. Tested it in linux. Same result)
    Alex

The ability to access the network, but not the Internet, typically indicates that the computer is not able to either find or negotiate with the DNS servers. The proper DNS servers would be provided by your ISP using DHCP. In turn, the AirPort would use DHCP to provide these to both the wired & wireless computers connected to it.
    Please try the following:
For each PC that is unable to access the Internet, temporarily include the following OpenDNS servers:
    o Primary: 208.67.222.222
    o Secondary: 208.67.220.220
You would enter these in the network TCP/IP settings for the respective PC's wireless network adapters. You may need to restart the computer in order for these DNS settings to "stick." After restarting, can you access the Internet with either or both of them?

  • IRQ Sharing problem on the MSI K8NGM-V

    Hi,
to make a long story short, the nvidia video driver refuses to work at all if I don't reserve IRQ 10
but it doesn't stop there , I get lots of trouble with both networking and usb , as long as only one of them is working at once it's fine
but if I start moving the mouse around and there is even light network activity both the networking and the usb will stop working
this is all under linux so maybe the msi-modified windows have been hacked into having a workaround until a new bios is produced
if you want the whole story in all the gory details I have put all my findings and lots of information on this thread on nvnews (biggest nvidia linux forum around)
thread on nvnews (biggest nvidia linux forum around)
I tried reserving IRQ 5 in the hopes that network and usb would end up on different irq's but that made things even worse
if the windows drivers have a workaround, it probably induce a performance penalty
also I heard msi is distributing an experimental bios that may fix some of these issues (since there are no bios available for the MSI K8NGM-V)
I understand this is board is very new so I guess this is the early-adopter syndrome if you know anything about this I'd love to hear it , there is very little talk about this motherboard in this forum for some reason :\ I guess people on this board aren't fans of budget boards ?

    Quote
if the windows drivers have a workaround
Windows XP and other Windows that use the same kernal have no problems with IRQ sharing, this is because Windows XP kernal uses Virtual IRQ Routing, in short this means that Windows manages all the IRQ's and does this 99.9% of the time without a problem.

Some benchmark results before racing with The Crew.
CPU and GPU info on CPU-Z and GPU-Z applications:
    3DMark Fire Strike score: 6441
3DMark Fire Strike Extreme score: 3384
    3DMark Fire Strike Ultra score:1262
The excel performance proof the brand new 960 graphics card comes with good a high Cost/Performance Value.
Now, check out this test benchmark score of the renowned game “The Crew”.
The game presents an ultra-quality display, 60 Frames Per Second (FPS)
    FPS: Average frames is at:
    Frames: 3859 - Time: 76828ms - Avg: 50.229 - Min: 43 - Max: 56
The comments of the game for your reference:
There are many types of missions that can be chosen from the America’s map.
Street racing, high-speed collision, breakaway from police, sky jumps, zigzagging, etc… make the game quite dynamic.
Now, when it comes to multi-player matches, the performance has exceeded expectations. Perhaps, it is the killer Ethernet that’s working the magic. Thus, this game is highly recommended if you have the right rig.
The downside is that the display intricacy is not as refined as GTA V and in addition, the game FPS is limited at 60 FPS. However, the overall gaming flow and performance is better than good.
The user's comment for using MSI Gaming 5 motherboard and 960 graphics card:
(The following commends are translated from user’s article, does not represent the viewpoint of MSI) ^^
Recently, MSI GTX 960 just launched so the initial price tag is still adjustable.
According to the current product line, it seems like this GPU is going to replace 750Ti. So once all the stocks (750Ti) at the store empties, we are most likely to see a price drop on GTX960.
Once the price hits the sweet spot, it’s time to try out GTX960 SLI’s performance.
The CP value on MSI GTX960 and GAMING 5 MB is pretty high. But the XSplit software that comes with the product is a bit annoying since the authentication steps are divided into 2 parts to go through for using it.
    Enough said, anyways, GAME ON!

NVIDIA 960 card  + GAMING 5 motherboard = best bundle for budget gaming!
it would be nice to see more testing of hardware-demanding games!

  • MSI x48c PLatinum and Intel E8600 Problem

    Hello, I'm from Greece
    My computer Setup is:
Mobo: MSI X48C Platinum (bios version 7.0)
CPU: INTEL CORE 2 DUO E8600
    PSU: HEROLCHI 525 Watt
    RAM: OCZ OCZ3SOE10664GK DDR3 4GB (2x2GB)
    VGA: Albatron 8800 GTS
    HDD: WD 300GB SATA
    The problem is:
I bought them yesterday because i want to upgrade my system.
I connect them all properly in my case and after i turn the PC on it freeze in the MSI logo screen and cant even enter BIOS Setup.
The first time i turned the power on a message like: "Your previous overclockinn atempt was not succssefull. Press a button except del to load defaults and continue." i do what it said and freeze after that message.
This just the first time, the other times it just freeze on the logo screen. Some times it beeps one time and reset by his own and sometimes beeps four times and then reset. The most of the times it just freezes in the logo screen.
I took everything off and reinstall them. Nothing Happen.
I tried with one dimm of RAM each time in deferent positions. Nothing Happen.
I did o clear CMOS from the back button. Nothing Happen.
I perform a clear CMOS with the old method (unplug power, remove battery, wait for a couple o minutes). Nothing Happens.
I believe the problem is with the bios version i have and the CPU compatibility. I look at www.msi.com.tw and it said that this board its compatible with the INTEL E8600 but only at the 7.2 version.
How will i update my bios if my computer doesnt even enter bios setup?
Please help me. any suggestion. I'm losing my mind here!
    Thanks you in advance.

the only thing i can suggest is to drop in a 7.0 compatible CPU (if you can) and flash the BIOS to 7.2 that way then switch back in your new CPU.  A painful process, I know ...  Alternatively, if your retailer is friendly they might set it up on a test bench for you and flash it.
    Andrew
Like Andrew mentioned, this is the only way out though it is a long painful process.
The other is to get a board that is compatible to the E8600 right out of the box.

  • MSI 785GM-E51 and memory modules problems

Could anyone help me with one problem. I have motherboard MSI 785GM-E51 and 4 memory modules GOODRAM GR 1333D364L9/2G. But when I'm inserting ALL modules my system not starting (even POST procedure). So working variants - when I'm inserting:
    - one module in first (boot) slot
    or
    - they inserted in first and third memory slots
    Any ideas?

It is not motherboard problem, but processor itself - I have AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition 3,4 Ghz Core Revision C2 and this revision (according to the article: http://www.fcenter.ru/online.shtml?articles/hardware/processors/27650#02) has problems with support memory modules DDR3-1333 Mhz more than 2 modules. Conclusion - either adjust BIOS settings concerning memory timings and memory controller voltage or replace this kind of processor with the same type but with core revision C3

    Hello BI Experts ,
I am working on Generic data source extraction.
Earlier I mapped all fields infoobjects in Transfer Rules and then loaded data to ODS properly.
But later on I made few changes in Generic data source view and exits in the R3 and replicated the data source to BI.
Then Remapped the fields to infoobjects in Transfer Rules.
Now I can see Transfer Rules Green and all fields are mapped properly.
But when I activated Transfer Rules I am getting message that ,

Data source is active in R3.
