MSI K8T Neo2 slow SATA problem
Hello members,
I do have a MSI K8T Neo2 mainboard with Via chipset. The board supports SATA 150. AFAIK this means it should support transfer rates up to 150 MB/s.
Now Ive bought a SATA3 SSD with over 500 MB/s. Because SATA 3 is downcompatible to SATA 1 its working so far.
The only problem is I expected 150MB/s but I do only get about 115 MB/s with benchmark programs like HD Tune and AS SSD Benchmark in sequential read.
I do have the latest drivers and bios updates but it seems MSI SATA controllers is very slow.
Can anyone help me getting it faster?
Thank you.
Does this mean in praxis I dont get 150 MB/s ?
Is this general or only MSI specific?

MOVED: MSI K8T Neo2 Onboard Sound Problem
This topic has been moved to AMD64 ATI/SiS/VIA based board.
https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=108589.0About the exclamation marks:
Goto Device Manager -> View -> Show hidden devices (enable)
Goto the multimedia-section (where the exclamation marks are) and uninstall all devices marked with an exclamation mark LEAVE THE OTHERS!
==> Note: if you see two of the same installed devices of which one is installed wrongly (excl. mark) and the other is grayed out, uninstall them both. Note to leave all other things, like codecs, alone. If you don't, you ruin your Windows <==
Now, reboot Windows and when the hardware install wizard pops up, cancel that and install the audio drivers manually.
Then the JAUD-pin header: open your case. The JAUD pins are at the bottom left of your board. JAUD1 should be printed next to it. It looks like this:
o o o x o
o o o o o
The x is the place where a pin is missing. now, both pins next to that one should be connected with a jumper
o o | o |
o o | o |
The two | show the pins to be connected. -

MSI K8T Neo2 F vs. MSI K7N2 Delta ILSR
Hi there !
I have an amd Athlon XP 3200+ overheating problem, and contacted the technical support of the shop where the processor and CPU was coming from.
Since they do not have any XP 3200+ to replace mine, they propose me to replace fro free :
- the XP 3200+ by an AMD Athlon 64 3200+
- my actual MSI K7N2 delta ILSR by an MSI K8T Neo2 F
... and this for free.
Since I do not know this new motherboard that has been proposed, I'd like to have advice on if this is a good deal ?!?
My actual system has :
- an Aluminium case with 2x 12cm FAN's
- 2 IDE hard drives
- 1 SATA hard drive
- TWINX Corsair XMS 2x256MB PC 3200L (Extreme low latency)
- an AGP 8x video card
- An Antec True Power 480W.
will the new motherboard fit with this configuration?
Many thanks for your input !Not really, unless you really want to oc your cpu. The K8T boards aren't that good in OC-ing. But still, some is possible and you'll be sure that the board is as steady as a rock.
For a moment I thought you were talking about a Neo board ... but I just saw it's a Neo2. That means Socket 939 -> dual channel RAM.
The only risk you have now, is that your RAM won't work in dual channel with the CPU. But that's not really a board-problem, more a CPU/RAM-controller related problem. But then, it's still a great offer and chances are good that it will work. If you run into any trouble, RAM-related, just flash bios to version 1.9 and you will probably be just fine. -
MSI K8T Neo2 F 939 pin, any known video or other driver issues?
Using a MSI K8T Neo2 F, AMD 64 3500+ winchestor, 1gb DDR400 3200 memory, New WD 740GD SATA HDD, ATI 9800 GT Pro 256 videocard. Fresh XP Pro SP2 install with all the update, latest Via 4 in 1s.
Seems like my problems began when I upgraded video drivers to either Cat 4.9s or 5.1s (ATI Radeon 9800 GT Pro 256) in order to get Doom3 running as it wouldn't run on the v 3.4 drivers that came on the cd-rom with the videocard.
HL2 would play fine with those old drivers. After upgrading to newer drivers, HL2 and Doom 3 (which now at least plays) won't play for more than 5 minutes yet other games will. The same videocard (perhaps 3 months old now) with cat 4.9 drivers ran perfectly in my old system so I know the videocard's still OK.
I can use a restore point prior to installing the newer drivers BUT that doesn't solve the problem as to why I can't use the newer drivers.
I've heard where some have problems with XP SP2 vs SP1. Anyone here have opinions on that?
I have spare HDDs so I can use one with another fresh XP install, even try just SP1 if that'd matter? Doing that would eliminate hardware as being an issue.
It's now not just games either, it'll crash doing Turbotax and other (not demanding) times when not gaming. Games put alot of demand on any system.
Have also tryed another PSU, now an Antec Truepower 430W vs a cheaper brand 550W. Not heat related as I've tryed this with a house fan blowing on high directly at the mobo, cpu side (cover's off).
I've been trying to solve this for about a month now and it's very annoying.
I ran Memtest for 8 hours last night, no errors so the memory's OK. I'm now running another test program called Prime95 via advice from someone at Anandtech.com. http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.aspx?catid=32&threadid=1513208
If ANYONE here has seen anything like this relating to this motherboard (which I suspect might be a problem?), please share your thoughts.
ThanksCan you explain where I'll find "VPU recover (adapter settings)"? In display settings or ATIs cat. control center, guessing? I'm at work now but will check that soon.
AGP fast-write has been off.
As for going back to older video drivers, it did seem OK with the old Cat. v3.4 drivers that came on the videocards driver cd-rom and played HL2 fine with those drivers HOWEVER, Doom3 doesn't run with those older drivers and needs the newer drivers to function.
When it crashes, the screen usually goes to black (not BSOD). Sometimes it'll just freeze with skipping sound for a few seconds before going black, sometimes it'll reboot but usually I just reboot it. Can't 3 finger solute to task manager or Esc out of it either. -

Hola, (Hi)
(Last week i've had same issue with that board. Update the Bios to 9.2 version according to this forum: 1st. populate first slot with one memory stick and run the Bios update. Tunr off your PC and... 2nd populate slot 2 and 4 and you are ready.)
El único problema que he encontrado con esta BIOS es que la tarjeta de video Gcube 9600XT presenta algunos saltos en los juegos. (The only issue about that bios version it's the GeCube Radeon 9600XT that JUMPING in all games.)

With MSI K8T NEO2 FIR Mb (help)
Hi.
I need some help....!
My computer contains:
AMD64 3500+ (130nm, Newcastle) socket 939
MSI K8T NEO2 FIR Hovedkort for S939 K8T800PRO
Kingston PC3200 HyperX DDR 1024MB CL2 Non-ECC Ultra Low Latency (2-2-2-5-1)
Gainward GeForce 6800GT 256MB GS GDDR3 AGP, "Ultra/2400 Golden Sample"
9 X Western Digital HD's
2 X Nec dvd-burning-r
A Gainward psu. (delivers "+3,3=28a" "+5=45a" "+12=20a" and a total of 550W)
I think I have a power problem... because the "+12" has a rather low number for this kind of system... and the BIOS is showing me that the "+12" reading is -- 11,42V -- This is idle in BIOS... and I got the same reading in Win... (idle)
The first thing I thought of was to disable as many disk's/cd-drives as I was able to... the only thing I have left is C: BUT!! the bios and windows gives me the same reading of the "+12" 11,42V.
Both +3,3 and +5 are on the + side.
The main problem is when I ex starts a game or a benchmark prog... Like HL2,battlefield,War3,3dmarks,Prime95 + + + the pc shuts down, or the prog/game won't run properly.... Kind of irritating!!!
Do anybody have any experience with this kind of problem?!?!?! I need help!
I thought of buying the OCZ 520w psu.... Does it solve the problem?
http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/power_management/ocz_powerstream_power_supply
This psu should give me these specs:
520W:
+3.3V(28A)
+5V(40A)
+12V(33A)
Many Thanks for your help!!
regards.
KrisPrime95 version 23.8.1 is my first choice, I run the torture test in blend mode because it uses lots of ram, very sensitive to errors. Pure math computataions and matched against known results.
I also use Hot Cpu tester Pro 4.2.2, they do have a free version as well it tests alot of different cpu instructions as well as memory simultaniously as well as doing a burn-in. Faster than Prime, nice when your overclocking since you can see what is failing sse instructions for example, then you can either up the cpu voltage or ram voltage depending on the test or back off the oc a bit.Used it alot with my old Barton 2500 rig.
I've seen a third program used on some of the overclocking sites Superpi. I believe, lol, been meaning to bookmark and try it myself. I imagine it's used to quickly detect memory errors as well as being a benchmark without stressing components.
This board isn't made for overclocking kind of useless without a working agp/pci lock. Sata corruption over 220 fsb so I've been content with using the first 2 programs to tweak my memory settings and test for stability.
Yeah I noticed that too when I set the DDR to 400 the bios will override the Cas being set to 2 and run it at 2.5 My board doesn't freeze when saving it though. I leave it set at 2.5 in the bios and use A64Tweaker to manually set the Cas to 2 in windows it works fine that way and is easily verified with cpuz or everest. Personally I don't trust using spd in the bios and prefer to manually set all the timing to the manufacturers recommended settings. *edit* I also forgot to mention to when you check your ram manufacturer's website to see if the sticks of ram are capably of Command Rate 1T(CR) some can't other can only if one stick is being used. You may need to set the Dram 1T timing to disable, sorry about that -
I'm Assembling this new PC unit of mine, Changing My Asus Mobo into this MSI K8T Neo2.
With this New Unit I bought a brand New HDD SataI Seagate Baracuda 160gb 7200rpm.
Here are the problems that I encounter:
1. Cannot Detect HDD.
But this issue has been already resolved, by Reinstalling New Windows.
2. (CURRENT PROB) Turns into BLUE SCREEN.
It hasnt yet booted into windows.
Take note: SO i thought HDD is th prob. But When i tried to run the same HDD into another unit, it runs smoothly and NO BLUE SCREEN problem.
Here are the Specs of my Unit:
CPU: AMD 64
Mobo: K8T Neo2 V1.X G52-M6702E1
Memory: 1gb Geil DDR400 PC 3200
Video Card: 256mb FX5600
HDD: 160gb Seagate Baracuda 7200rpm
OS: Windows XP service Pack2
PSU: 550watts HEC
Thanks,You could try a different drive but I thinks that Fred is right about 2 core processor and the bios update.
Went through similar problems with the K8t Neo2 but that has been over two years ago. I'm pretty sure a bios update fixed it. -
MSI K8T Neo2 FIR, need help installing drivers
Hi there,
I need help with installing drivers. Here’s my setup:
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3500+
Mainbord: MSI K8T Neo2 FIR (VIA K8T800Pro)
OS: Windows XP Professional, SP2 installed
ATI Radeon 9600 Pro
I updated per MSI Live Monitor, but when I run ‘dxdiag’, I says I have to update the ‘VIA standard host bridge’. I don’t know what this is or where it can be found. It could be I saved the updated drivers in the wrong file (F:\ Program Files\...) where F is my primary harddisk and the drivers should be saved in F:\Windows\ System 32.
Also, my hardware setup tells me there are two videocards 'installed': a Radeon 9600 Pro and a radeon 9600 Pro (secundary). Do I need to de-install the secundary one?
Here’s a piece of my most recent dxdiag:

Help would be very much appriciated, thnx! The two vis.cards issue is normal, it sees the primary output (VGA) as a device and the TV-out a separate device.
Go to device manager to see if there's any device on ur rig that doesn't have drivers.
Did u install the 4-in1 drivers, get the latest version from the MSI support site.
good luck. -
MSI K8T Neo2-FIR: No fan control since BIOS 3.3?

Hi!
First my system:
MSI K8T Neo2-FIR (BIOS 3.3)
Athlon64 3000+ Winchester (with Arctic Freezer 64)
Connect3D Radeon 9700 (Zalman Hetapipe)
2x512 MB MDT RAM CL2.5 PC3200 (DIMM1+3)
Terratec Cinergy TV400
PSU Chill Innovation CP-510A (Click for output ratings)
Since BIOS V3.3 Speedfan (V 4.20) is not able to reduce the rpm of the CPU-Fan (of course connected to CFAN1). Before flashing BIOS 3.2, it worked well (CPU < 40°C = Fan spins with 60%). After flashing BIOS 3.3 (because it resolves the problem with USB legacy and WindowsXP), Speedfan (and Corecenter) do not reduce die fan power. If i stay a while in the BIOS, i can hear, how the fan runs lower and lower. But under windows the fan runs on full power.
I have this problem too.
I don't have ability to change speed fan for CPU, and then I have 60 degrees on full load.
When I setup in CoreCenter utility to user mode and fan to high speed, as if by miracle on cpu fan speed change from 1600 to 2400,
but now it's on 1600 again and setup in core center dont't make any change on speed fan.
Is it OK in bios 3.2 ? with setup speed on cpu ? -
OK, so I changed my motherboard a few days ago, and got myself a MSI K8T Neo2 card, with the AMI bios ver.3.31a
I put in my old 2 x Apacher 256mb pc 2700 ram (single side) in there, and tried to add in some other ram, but it failed.
I also got my 350powersupply running on it. (It says 5v, 3.3v and 12v on the side, saw someone asking about that in another tread, if that helps)
So now I get to boot all the way into windows (XP SP2 btw), and I even get it running for a long while (sometimes)
Like last night, it was up all night doing recovery from a old HD, that took 7-8hours, and no brakedown.
However, when I try to do normal things... like open a folder, there is a 1 in 20 chance (about) that it will hang.. Same with watching a movie, while watching it will just hang.
So when starting a program/task, running a program/task, ending a program/task. There is always a chance of frezzing up.
Anyone got any idea of what the problem is?35A, 28A, 17A, 0.3A, 0.8A, 2A
I'w been thinking about a ram problem, seeing how the ram is old, and most people complain over the fact that Ram prevents booting (not a problem) and makes the system unstable (just my problem).
Video driver/card problem never crossed my mind.. it's nvidia.. the most streamline drivers out there.
There is no cpu drain, and no apps that are not responding. I have been having this problem all the way since I did a clean install of windows, so I don't think it's a program problem.
However.. I found the first sign of "always" crash last night.
If I wanted to play Evil Genius, and I had a file application started, (emule or Ares) It would hang before it could load up, always. If I had them turned of, then it would have a far bigger chance of starting and running normaly. -
S3 sleep state issue (MSI K8T Neo2 FIR)
Hi,
CPU load is too high (about 80-95%) all the time after the system waked up from S3 sleep state. This is dramatically decreasing system performance.
My configuration is:
MSI K8T Neo2 FIR mainboard
CPU Athlon64 3000+ (Venice rev. E6)
AGP GeForce 6600GT VGA card
Creative SB Live! series
WinXP SP2Wild-Robot,
The following link was suggested to me, since I wondered if my problems might have needed a bios update. The board I have is a 754, thouugh, not a 959, so I would have been suspicious of using this update, anyway. Then Tiresmoke mentioned that the new update addresses a sleep state (S3) issue. Might that help your situation? I would n't know, but it may be worth a look:
MSI Germany published Version 9.3 for K8T Neo2-F(IR):
http://www.msi-computer.de/produkte/main_idx_view.php?Prod_id=402&Seite=BIOS
That Version cannot yet be found at MST TW or MSI USA.

Tiresmoke then mentions:
Well Babblefish translation tells me that this;
Behebt Probleme mit der CPU Auslastung nach dem aufwachen aus dem Standby Modus (S3)
is saying this;
Problems with the CPU extent of utilization repairs after that wakes up from the Standby mode (S3)
So nasically is has something to do with the S3 standby mode issues. As I do not use any standby mode I have not seen any issues. If you have had any then you may want to give it a try but they don't say they fixed anything else so if you are like me and not having any issues you may want to give this one a pass.
Hope that helps. -
