MSI K9AGM2-FIH power connections

I know this is a noob question but this my first time build for a board with 24 pin, I am used to building system with only 20 pins. Here it goes I have this msi board k9agm2-fih do still need to connect all the 24 pins power to the board? or it will do fine with only 20 pins?

yep need to catch up with newer technologies... oh i forgot to mention that i have new power supply with 24pins, so do i still need to connect the 24pins to the board? what is the "JPW1" power connector to the board? I found out that this board has a JPW1 connector that says "This 12V power connector JPW1 is used to provide power to the CPU." do i still need to connect power to the JPW1 connector? or connect the 20pins to the board then detach the 4 pins and connect to the JPW1 connector?

    Athlon 64 X2 4400+

The Bios has not been updated since purchase in may 07.
The problem occures whenever he starts a movie in Mediaplayer or VLC, or runs Photoshop or any other graphic application.
The entire machine just freezes, he cannot even do a CTRL+ALT+DELETE.
Can this be fixed sith BIOS update, or cpuld it be something else?
    Sincerely

The link you provided doesn't specify any details about the power supply. Bad sign. May I be the third in line to advice you to gat another one?
BIOS: sudden problems with a system are never caused by the bios. Only if you swap hardware, it can be a bios  problem. Also, changing settings can cause trouble. But when you used a system for years and it starts acting up, it can't be the bios, not in this case.

  • MSI K9AGM2-FIH HD audio

    Hi.
    I built MSI K9AGM2-FIH - motherboard - micro ATX - AMD 690G with an AMD 4000x2CPU 2GB ram and 256mb 7600 pci-e card
The problem that I am having it is the Realteck High Definition.
When I try to install it, it finds the software and tries to run it but the it says
"error occurred during installation of the device. The device's co-installer is invalid"
Does anyone know what this means and how to fix it.?
I have the latest drivers from msi
    Thanks

I have now tried the reference driverQuote from: Hans on 28-August-07, 03:10:13
Did you try Realtek's reference driver? You can find it on their site: Realtek Guide by Backwoodz
but no joy, I did put the motherboard software in first.
Going to uninstall everything and try again.

  • Msi P45 Platinum Power Connections ? Clarification please.

Hi, I'm asking does anybody know weather the ATX 12V power connector on the p45 for the CPU, can be used with all 8 pins as 4 of them have a plastic cover over them, is it safe to remove the cover and insert a 8 pin supply to them?
Also JPWR1 12V connection to PCIEX16 Graphics card, can that also be used safely with a card inserted that has an 8 pin power connection allready powering the graphics card?
Does the above two make a difference if you have ATX 24 PIN Or ATX 20 PIN, or can all be plugged in safely with no risk of damage to the board, i.e ATX 24 PIN To Motherboard and ATX 12V CPU 8 pin power connector and JPWR1 connected as well
All of this is in the manual page 2-9 but there is no clarification to what can and should be connected.

If you PSU has an 8-Pin-+12V-connector for CPU power, remove the plastic cover and plug it in.  [The cover is to avoid confusion, if a PSU is used that only has one 4-Pin +12V-Plug.]

All power connectors are listed in the manual.  The manual does not tell you to skip any connectors, does it?

  • MSI K9AGM2-FIH & SPDIF sound problems

I have installed the SPDIF connector onto my motherboard. Booting into Vista I then install the drivers (I have tried both from MSI and Realtek direct, v1.73) both give me the option of setting Digital Output as my default audio - I do that. However, I get no sound from my amp even though I have a very good coaxial cable connecting the SPDIF card on the PC to my amp. I know the amp is working on the connection as I have used it for my DVD player.
What else do I have to do to get the SPDIF outputting sound? Thanks

I don't use Vista nor Realtek onboard sound. IMHO they both suck
Anyways, mine wasn't plugged in through SPDIF, I had it connected through VIDEO1 coaxial converted to minijack, plugged into my audigy 2 through the 3 ports in the back. (Front 2 Speakers Channel into 1 MiniJack, 2 Rear Speakers into 1, and Center/Sub into another.) I had mad issues with 5.1 though, it worked about half the time, but even when it worked it was not that great.
In looking at the volume settings in WinXP, if you double click volume icon on the taskbar, you get the play control box with all the volume settings, go to Options and click Properties make sure S/PDIF-out is checked, and click Ok, then make sure it's not muted and not all the way down on the volume bar. Also check to make sure you have it plugged into the Out and not the In (I've done it before!  )
Check your amp for all settings related to coaxial/digital/analog, etc make sure the output through that cable is being recieved from another device, then switch it to your computer.
If nothing works, try turning off digital output only, check to see if there are any settings in the volume/sound configuration that pertain to S/PDIF output. I don't know the Realtek drivers too well, so I'm not sure where to begin but the sound properties in the control panel seem like the best place to start.

  • MSI K9AGM2-FIH: PCIe x1 card in PCIe x16 slot

Am trying to get a PCIe x1 2-Port Sil3132 SATA Controller to work in a x16 slot
system boots without any problems, the card is found, and it shows up when booting
but here is the problem, windows wont boot, when i remove the card from the x16 slot it boots fine
windows is run via the onboard sb600
x1, x4, x8 cards should work in a x16 slot just fine, after with i have heard

Question, why do you want to use that card?
Also, it might be possible that drive-letters change in Windows, so it can't boot anymore.
Try booting with the Windows Boot-cdrom, load the Sil driver and see what letters you get.
You might need to change the boot.ini

  • K9AGM2-FIH: Wake-on-LAN ?

I love my K9AGM2-FIH but one thing that bugs me is I can't find a way to get WOL to work with the onboard NIC, my old motherboard (don't even remember model/brand right now) does this fine, which is great as I can SSH my linux box behind my router, and WOL the windows box up and RDP it. If I could WOL the new system that would be great. I am thinking of throwing an old 3com NIC into the PCI slot and see if it'll wake from PCI event, assuming the 3com will send one. I know it has a cable for WOL to connect to WOL connector equipped motherboards.. could also try a few other NICs..
But really I want a way to WOL it from the onboard :( shouldn't have to run extra NICs and such just to do this :(

Well I am inquiring with MSI and so far they indicate it should work as long as you have the PCI PME# wake up enabled in power management. Thing is I already tried enabling all the wake up events, so now we're playing the "What version is your board" and "What wake on lan software are you using" game trying to narrow down the problem. I hope they're right in that it's supposed to work, if we find a solution I'll update the thread here

    Hello,
I have baught the K9AGM2-FIH (MS-7237 Version 1.0) to connect it via HDMI to my Samsug LE37M86BD Both are supporting 1080p.
When I choose at catalyst controlcenter 1920x1080p (progressive mode) the resulition is only 1920x1080i (interlaced mode). I recognize it at the onscreen display of the TV and the flickering when I'm scrolling and on menue soft appearance.
How do I get the progressive mode enabled!
    Thanks
    Oliver
PS: 760p is working at progressive mode.
PS2: I have tried the CCC from the deliverd CD, from the MSI Hompage and the most recent (31.5.07) from ATI. Every time the same result interlaced mode only.

    Wirruna,
It will be jumpy because the resolution is too high. Your using integrated VGA don't forget.
this is cleary a driver issue
did the default windows driver work at 1920x1080?
what about posting a support request at http://ati.com/support
    http://support.ati.com/ics/support/KBList.asp?folderID=10578
AMD 690G series clearly says "Supports a maximum resolution of 2048x1536 @ 32bpp"
meybe try PowerStrip, get that to 1920x1080 @ 50hz

  • K9AGM2-FIH - HDMI out video problem

    Morning all,
Just finished building the new HTPC for the theatre. Have the K9AGM2-FIH board in an antec fusion case, and it was initally hooked up to a Pioneer VSX-AX4AsiS. Found that even though the amp was telling the PC (running Vista Home Premium) that it was capable of taking 1080p at 60 and the video card said it was outputing at that, there was a large black border shown when projected through the DLA-HD1 (which said it was receiving a 1080p signal from amp).
Connecting the PC directly to the projector rectified that problem but in the processing of swapping over I came across the REAL problem. Everytime the projector is powered off or swaps inputs the PC seems to switch off HDMI and wont try turning it on again. Plugged it back into the AMP and exactly the same thing (after having to reboot because I swapped the cables over and PC wasnt outputting via HDMI anymore). Everytime I swapped inputs on the AMP and came back to the 'HDMI in' assigned to the PC there was no signal. Same thing when turning the projector off whilst powering up the PC, if the PC cant talk to its HDMI output device during bootup it never seems to try talking to it again. Changing nothing and touching no cables but simply rebooting with the output device switched on will instantly give the boot screen and then off into Vista it goes...
Just wondering if anyone else has this problem and even better would be a fix that they have come across
    Thanks muchly,
    Sam

I feel your pain with msi boards. Or in that they offer NO tech support. Its like msi is ran by a little 90 year old lady working from her basement, and she cant hobble down the stairs anymore to get to her basement. I have emailed tech suppost often, and other than the auto generated reply, no human ever got back to me.
As for hdmi, hdmi is tricky. Sometimes audio is not even supported thru the hdmi. Depends. But it should be digital if it is.
I dont have that MB , I have the msi K9AGM-FID for two months, but I am also already looking into moving to another mb with better support. The "abit AN M2 nview" has one model, AN M2HD nview that does have hdmi plus vga (dual outs). It looks to be a very nice board. Then they have AN M2 nview that does not have hdmi, but has DVI out and vga (again, dual outs). And both boards have optical digital out. Monoprice.com has a 75-foot digital optical cable for under $20. So for me, I plan on using the DVI to my plasma tv and getting the 75' optical cable to run audio to my home theater receiver. I already have a 50' dvi cable going from this MB to the tv, plus just L+R audio line. You might want to look into the abit AN M2HD nview. Just no reason msi has to be so poorly ran of a company. Its like they are not only poorly ran, its like they go out of their way to irritate customers.

  • MSI Z77 M-Power - Network Cable Unplugged

Hey, first post here. I just (today) built a rig with the MSI Z77 M-Power mobo and everything works great! Everything but the internet. The network controller doesn't want to recognize my connection. The network cable works fine on my laptop, so it can't be that. Any help would be great - it's running Windows Server 2008 R2 (I'm using it as a server). The router is the D-Link DIR-655 (wired connection).

I haven't flashed my BIOS. I just bought this mobo today. And my MAC address is D4:3D:7E:37:A9:A9. Also, speaking of BIOS - When I go into the BIOS the display is all messed up. There's flickering... I can still see the options but the system temperature/time/everything outside of the main options displays large and out of place.

  • K9AGM2-FIH Display Driver Problems

I'm trying to update the video drivers on my new K9AGM2-FIH motherboard.  Everytime I try (with either the ones from ati or the ones from msi), the screen goes black right as it finishes.  Then when it reboots, I have to go to previous best settings.  My only display is a tv through s-video.  I assume it's just setting the main display as something else.  Anyone have any suggestions?  Thanks.

  • Duplex power connection

I couldn't find where i would post this for Motherboard questions so I do hope I am in the right spot. My question is my Motherboard which is the MSI K9N2 Diamond nForce 780a Socket AM2+ MB has instead of the 4-pin power connect but an 8 pin connection. I have the connectors on my OCZ 850w GameXStream Power Supply (SLI-Ready). From my specs should I use the 8 pin config or stick to the 4 pin?

If your PSU has the 8 PIN use it. It's recommended on MB's that have the 8 pin socket & 125W/140W CPU is installed that 8 pin power from PSU be used. Other than that PSU with only 4 pin CPU power should be OK.

  • K9AGM2-L Power Requirements?

Just gonna use the existing on-board graphics and a 320gb SATA Seagate drive, a DVD-DL burner.
Can anyone tell me how much power I will need?

UPS should be delivering my new power supply today. I bought the Corsair. Also, a friend of mine has an off brand he said I could have and the specs are way higher than the corsair, but it doesn't have a name brand on it to know what it is.
This is the specs on it:
    680W
    115V ~ 10A/60 Hz
    230V ~ 6A/50 Hz
    +5V at 50A
    +12V at 36A
    +3.3V at 40A
    -5V at 1A
    -12V at 1A
    +5VSB at 2A
Corsair VX450:-- +3.3V@20A,+5V@20A,+12V@33A,[email protected],[email protected] -- I fail to see where that psu has "way higher" specs. If you ask me a 450 watt powersupply that puts 33 amps on the 12 volt rail has a more efficient power allocation than a 680 watt that puts 36 amps on the 12 volt rail. It is the amps on the 12 volt rail that modern computers need most.
I think you will be happy with your purchase and you now have a good foundation to support your system.

  • MSI 975X PLATINUM POWER UP EDITION

    today is january 23rd, 2010
i just bought the msi 975x platinum power up edition in new york, from a store that was going out of business, but i am having problems because this does not power on.
i am using brand new and tested functioning: thermaltake tr2 430w psu, intel core 2 duo 2.66GHz fsb 1066, and also tried a celeron d 2.66GHz fsb 533, 1x corsair 1gb stick 800 mhz, nvidia 7 series pci express vga card, connected to a test ctr monitor AOC 5en.
i connected the 24 pin atx main connector, the 8 pin connector that powers on the cpu and also the peripheral connector that powers the pci express, and all i got was the heatsink fan spinning, but nothing appears on my screen (all is black).
i hope somebody can help me, because now the store where i bought it has closed, and i dont know how to get a warranty from MSI since i dont understand their RMA policy.

if it is not sure that after updating bios the motherboard can use some more new cpu`s, then i think it would be a waste of time trying to do a bios upgrade.
I am not sure that I understood what you mean, but it is nothing unusual that an older board/chipset will not support the latest processor models.  And this has nothing to do with the board manufacturer.
    Quote
I only wanted to do that bios upgrade thinking it would be enough to avoid the karma of searching for those listed cpus
What is so hard about digging up a supported processor?  I mean, all you have to do is to decide which model you want to get (an E6600 would be a great choice for this board) and then buy it. You will probably be able to get a great deal on a used one on E-Bay.
This is not a complicated situation.

... and it has nothing to do with this being an MSI Mainboard.  The only problem is that it is an old mainboard/Chipset and that the latest 45nm processors are too different regarding their specifications to be properly supported.

if you have 4 cards it should split them on the x16 slots to x8,x8,x0,x16,x8! if your lower slot is not doing x 8 either you have a bad PCI-E slot or a bent pin in the socket!
Its not finding the 4th card at all, and it was before, and havent moved it around since. Would a bent pin come and go like that? How do i fix it?
