MSI K9N NEO no video upon boot

Hi
the problem started one week ago. i shut down the computer for the night and the next day it didnt want to boot. the fans start but there is no video feed. When i push start all fans except on the vga starts and the lights on the onboard lan card flashes. the vga fan start about 7 seconds later and goes on max(sounds like hell). Ive tried everything i can think of.
here is my rig
PSU: AXP 630 watts
3.3V  5V    12V1 12V2 -12V    5VSB
24A   32A  21A   22A     0.6A  2.0A
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400+
RAM: 2x1gb corsair xms2 800Mhz 2x512Mb Corsair valueselect 667Mhz
VGA: GeForce 8800GTS 320Mb Gddr3
2 standard hdds
Soundblaster audigy se
It cant be the GPU because it worked on another computer.
It shouldnt be the PSU because i had a 420watt psu before and it worked fine, but now i have a 620 watt psu.
it shouldnt be the memorys because the worked before and ive tried every combination possible on the ram slots, whats the odds for every memory stick failing at the same time.
that leaves the cpu and the mobo.
i cant test the cpu because i have no acccess to a computer with an am2 socket.
Ive tried building it outside the chassi, ive tried booting with only basic components and without the basic components too, no beeping no nothing.(and yes i have the annoying beepspeaker on the right place.) I have run out of ideas, do you have any?
tomorow im gonna call customer support.

Your board does not support 125w cpus like the 6400+ used! Therefor your board most likely got killed due to the overstress by the too much power consuming cpu. This board is meant for 89w cpus maximum and that means 6000+ EE, even ordinary 90nm 6000+ is not compatible.
See cpu support chart for reference: http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=prodcpu2&prod_no=1585&maincat_no=1#menu
As for using an unsupported cpu you probably also voided warranty so you better don't tell customer service. I strongly recommend to get a new board and to avoid further tries with this combination of board and cpu.

  • MSI K9N Neo (AM2) memory troubles

Hi guys, I just got a new system which is having some issues, and I'd appreciate any suggestions on what could be wrong.
At first, the system simply crashed during OS boot. A quick test with memtest86 showed 50-60 thousand errors on a single run, so I asked at Corsairs site, got the recommendation to up the voltage to 2.1V. The memory got a whole lot more stable, but still showed a few dozen errors per run.
So, I proceeded to test the modules one by one, and found them operating well as long as only a single module was inserted (no errors on a 12+ hours run). I moved them around, tried different dimm slots, but as soon as both modules were in, there were errors ranging from a few to several dozen per memtest pass.
    The system specs are:
MSI K9N Neo (nforce 550 based)
    AMD Athlon64 3500+
    Corsair Value Select 2048MB PC5300 kit (2 1GB dimms, 667 MHz)
    Geforce 6600 video card.
BIOS settings are defaults (memory timing set from SPD) with memory voltage increased to 2.1 volt as per Corsairs suggestion.
Any suggestions? Is the MB shot, should I get it exchanged, or could there be some other problem?

    Hi Raider,
I would not run in dual channel mode until you get at least one stick to run w/o errors in Memtest86. I had a similar problem with different memory but the same MSI K9N MoBo. Sometimes it passed and sometimes it did not. My two problems were (1) power supply, only 350W, so I jumped up to a 500W, and (2) memory timings. The MSI site said the MoBo has trouble with SPD timings. So try moving the mem speed down a whole bunch, like 166Mhz or 133Mhz clocking first. If it passes all mem tests, then move the clock back up and try to look up the memory timings for your memory and type them in manually in your BIOS. For me, I went from 2.5-3-3-8 2T  to  3.0 5-5-8 2T and it ran forever.  From Windows I used CPU-z to see the memory SPD and timings and set it to the lower settings from CPU-z to make it work the first time. This week I am taking back the memory to the store because it won't run at spec.
    Good Luck

  • MSI K9N NEO-F V3 Cannot install Windows 7

I am trying to install Windows 7 Professional 64 bit on my wife's desktop computer.
    The system is:
MSI K9N NEO-F V3 Motherboard with BIOS American Megatrends Inc. V2.4
    AMD 64 X2 3.00 Gigahertz
    2 Gigs of RAM
    Windows XP Pro 32 bit
    500 gigs SATA HDD
120 gig and 40 gig IDE HDDs
As it has to be a clean install, I start the computer with the Windows 7 in the DVD drive. I get loading files, Starting Widows and then the background picture (picture with vapour trails, a dove and some grass) for the "Select Language etc." screen. Then nothing, no matter how long I leave it.
Got onto Microsoft and spent 1.5 hours trying to get it to work. We even went into the BIOS, made sure the DVD drive was the first boot device. When I clicked F10 to save and exit I did not get the "Press any key to boot from the CD/DVD", it went back to the beginning of booting.
The disk is OK, it is a Microsoft disk and worked fine when I tested it in my PC.
    Can anyone help, please?

Disconnect the two PATA hard drives.
Make sure the hard drive you're installing Windows on is formatted before running the setup.

  • MSI K9N neo - black screen

    Hi everyone
I have a computer with a MSI K9N neo (v.1.0) motherboard. About a 1,5 years old. Until last week it was working fine, but after a hard disk crash (and replacement), i can't get it to boot properly. When i start it up, I can hear the fans and drive spinning, and i get a POST 'beep' (the usual short beep), but only a blank screen - monitor says No signal detected. I've replaced the graphics card with a brand new one, and it didn't help.
    Can anyone help me?
    Computer specs:
    Motherboard: MSI K9N Neo
    Graphics card: Gainward Bliss 7200GS PCX(new) - XFX GeForce 6200 TurboCache(old)
    RAM: 2x Corsair Value S. PC5300 DDR2 512MB
    CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3000+ 1.8GHz Socket AM2

    Check monitor input selection 1|2
Check monitor cable and DVI->VGA converter if you use. Make sure that is filled well.
    Try with different monitor
    Thanks for the reply!
I've tried two monitors, two graphics cards and two PSU's - same result.
If I remove the graphics card and RAM and power up the computer, it does not beep at all, but when one of the memory modules (and/or the graphics card) are installed it beeps twice rapidly.. but the screen is blank no matter what I do..

if I use slot 1 is Kingston and slot 2 is Kingmax: is OK , But I use slot 1 Kingmax and slot 2 Kingston : black screen.
    I dont know thats why?
you should use matched memory sticks only [as Bernhard already told you]
if you a different one there is no any grantees that they works together
the only think you can try is to place the slowest memory stick in the 1st DIMM and other at other DIMM

  • MSI K9N Neo-F

A new mb MSI K9N Neo-F, AM2, AMD64, nForce 550, wont boot any more, after 1 month of work without problem. It closed it with Vista, rather slowly, and couldnt restart any more. Bios error code is 42 on a tester in LPT, bios gives no sound nor image, I can start PC (I mean fans and keyboard/CD lights) but not to stop, it is blocked somewhere while loading bios and CPU, before loading memory. Without CPU error code is FF. Any suggestion? I have checked CPU and memory, no effect.
    thank you in advance.

  • MSI K9N Neo - MS7260

Well, I modified a BIOS again, for the MSI K9N Neo (PCB 1.0), MS-7260. The added features are:
    - Damn Nice Bootscreen (the old one suck)
    - Processor Frequency Multiplier
    - Processor Voltage
I don't know if this will help some people with overclocking, but, here they are.
    *USE AT OWN RISK*
    http://rapidshare.com/files/228438450/MSI_K9N_Neo__PCB_1.0_.zip.html

hmm, unfortunately I can't seem to find that BIOS on my PC... I must have deleted it or something, but I did find a Beta BIOS in MSI's ftp site, which has EXACTLY the same changes. You can change the CPU Voltage & Change the Multiplier. You can download the BIOS here: http://www.mediafire.com/?o4t5mhomyzi
If you are interested in changing the bootscreen or modify some options, you can download AMI modding tools (MMTOOL v3.22 & AMIBCP v3.37) here: http://www.mediafire.com/?mnqwj2mmww2
I hope this helps. BTW, you should notice that this BIOS is for MS-7260 (MSI K9N Neo, PCB 1.0) only. It has nVIDIA chisets, so the CPU voltage will not be of much help, since nVIDIA uses completely different designs from that of Intel & AMD - nVIDIA's chipsets cannot overclock well, but they do have better latencies. Unfortunately real life performance depends on the actual clock rating & not the latency. You can try this BIOS, but I can't promise that it'll provide better overclocking. If you find that you can only overclock by 5%, then it's definitly better to leave the CPU on stock speed, setting the PLL's frequency higher than nVIDIA's chipset's locked frequency will make it unstable. Test the stability with IntelBurnTest (for AMD & Intel CPU's): http://downloads.guru3d.com/IntelBurnTest-v1.6-download-2047.html

Problem with front audio connectors, In my atx i have this cords listed below..

    MIC-BIAS
    SPKOUT R
    RETURN R
    SPKOUT L
    RETURN L
    GND
In the manual describing the JAUD1 Front Audio Connector it lists:
    1. AUD_MIC
    2. AUD_GND
    3. AUD_MIC_BIAS
    4. AUD_VCC
    5. AUD_FPOUT_R
    6. AUD_RET_R
    7. HP_ON
    8. KEY
    9. AUD_FPOUT_L
    10. AUD_RET_L
Guide me pls where should i put this cords because i only got 7 cords.
    TNX IN ADVANCE

Your case connectors are not complient with the HD Audio connectivity standard.  In order to make this work, you'll need to disable the Automatic Front Panel Jack Detection Function in the Realtek HD Audio Manager.
Connecting your case's ports should be rather either:
    First of all:
    GND ---> 2. AUD_GND
    Then the microphone:
    MIC-IN
    MIC-BIAS
There are only two possible ways to connect these plugs to:
    1. AUD_MIC
    3. AUD_MIC_BIAS
Try both ways. One of them is going to work.  [Remember: In order to make this work, you'll need to disable the Automatic Front Panel Jack Detection Function in the Realtek HD Audio Manager.]
    And then the other thing:
    SPKOUT R ---> 5. AUD_FPOUT_R
    RETURN R ---> 6. AUD_RET_R
Same thing for the left channel.  Just this time use:
    9. AUD_FPOUT_L
    10. AUD_RET_L

  • MSI K9N NEO - Whats the best geforce ?? MY 6200 LE WONT WORK !

    Hi all.
When i turn on the PC with the Geforce 6200 LE in the PCIE slot... the graphics are seriously messed up. red lines and blue bands down the screen and strange characters everywhere.
Only way I could install windows onto the new blank HD was to put in an old PCI graphicswe card and like magic... its normal. Now i used the old card to get me onto the internet and got every new driver for the geforce 6200 LE I could find, but no matter which driver I apply the pc just wont boot with the 6200LE in.
    My system spec is
    K9N Neo MS-7260
    AMD Althlon 64 3200+ AM2
    1gb GSkill DDRII 800 RAM
    "3DFusion" Geforce 6200LE
Could it be the fact that 3DFusion cards are not compatible with the K9N Neo or nforce 550 and if so... presumably I need either an NVIDIA geforce or an MSI geforce rather than my 3dfusion card ???
So to sum up guys... shall I sell the 3dfusion geforce 6200LE and buy an MSI Geforce.... and if so... which card will DEFINITELY work with the nForce 550 / K9N Neo ???
It seems 3dfusion  cards arent compatible with nforce550 or k9n.

    *Soundcard: Soundblaster Audigy
OS: Windows XP home, service pack 2
    *Lite-on IT dvd-rom drive
    *floppy disk drive
I also have 3 case fans spinning away in a marginally large Chieftec Dragon tower.
The parts I marked with an asterisk (*) are parts that I removed from my old rig and re-used.
I'll try to give a clear rundown of my problem and the steps I've taken so far.
3 days ago I acquired the P45 Neo and installed it into my system, together with the 8800GT videocard. I was still using my old PSU, a Chieftec 360watt. This PSU served me well for 7 years, but it was starting to build up noise while trying to keep up games on my old rig.
I had some trouble getting the system to boot, I tried changing some of the 4 pins wires going to the hard drive and the dvd drive. I don't know if it was luck or if I managed to divide the load properly for the system to boot. But I succeeded into booting up, got into the bios and eventually installed WinXP.
As soon as it was time to install the videocard drivers, it stopped responding. I assumed it was a power issue, since I could only install the 20pin and 4pin cpu, but my Chieftec PSU didn't have a 24pin plug to the mobo - and it needed replacing anyway! So I bought a new 500watt PSU that had all the required plugs and more wattage.
I installed the new PSU, checked every connection and pressed the power button. 'Lo and behold, the computer starts up. I install the videocard drivers and it proceeds with no problems. I try to install the soundcard, but the cd says I don't have one installed. I fix that by going to the System list and install the drivers from there. I install a firewall. By then I have successfully rebooted the computer 3 or 4 times. I decide all is well and turn off the computer. But I realize I wanted to check up something on the internet.
I press the powerbutton. The PC power light go up for just a fraction of a second. I can see the blue LED of one of the case fans switching on just as briefly - then it goes out. The computer keeps trying to turn itself on. It looks like it's hickupping to try and boot!
I turn off the PSU power on the back-side because the computer keeps trying and wait for a bit. After 10 minutes, it still doesn't work. I leave the computer for a bit and return an hour later. The computer then starts up with no problems. I turn it off after a few hours, do a reset, start it up, no problems. But then the next day it happens again.
It's pretty tough figuring out what the problem is because it looks..almost random. I considered it could be a heat issue, but sometimes it *does* start up just after it's been turned down. Checking the bios shows no strange temperature shifts.
Hope anyone can help me, because I do not want to go back to my old Asrock mobo

While powered down I cleared the cmos data, removed the Dane Elec DDR2 module and set the bios to optimized defaults. Computer restarted to WinXP with no problems (it has been off the whole night). I shut down WinXP, wait a few moments and then turn the computer back on. Alas, it won't start and starts hick-upping. I turn power off at the PSU again, so it stops.
Now I try switching out the Kingston module instead. By now the computer has been off for 10 min (while I write this entry on laptop). I press the power button on the PSU and then the power button on the front. There is a short pause, lasting a second. The computer turns on, longer now, but it only lasts 2 whole seconds before it turns off again and goes on again (I believe now you can call it powercycling). It repeats this process until I shut off the PSU.
I check to see if I have installed it properly and try again but it starts powercycling again.
15 min pass, I put the Kingston module back in, press the power button and voila, this time it does start. WinXP shows up, no problems. I leave it on for a bit and then shut down. And when I press the power button again - the feeling of dread returns, when it starts hickupping again.
I'm going to see if I can install one of the memory modules from my housemate. Then hopefully tommorrow, I'm going to try if I can test a different PSU, since I see someone else on the forum - who recently posted, has the exact same power supply and also has boot problems, coincidence... or not ^^;.

  • MSI K9N Neo board- and Windows 2003 R2

    Hello,
I am having some compatibility issues with running a K9N Neo board and Windows 2003 r2
--I cant get core center to run
--I cant get audio/sound to work, it is all installed except for one thing.
so then i killed by loading XP drivers that it did not like.
Does anyone have a list of the minmum drivers off my CD that i should install to get it going, or are they on the MSI site for W2k3?  I could not find them.
This machine works totally fine with XP and Vista.
    thanks

That is mostly correct, absolutely. But it happens that Microsoft thought-up some security measure or two that prohibits some - for example - updating procedures. Here is an example, but I doubt that is your problem. Please note the kb number, you don't have to learn Swedish.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922582/sv
Modificacion: Very few companies do I believe produce special 2003 drivers. Don't think I ever saw any MSI ones, anyway. Isn't it enough that XP and Vista works? Those are better for gaming, entertainment, VOIP and such.
