MSI K9N Platinum Beeps at bios?

I've recently built my own PC, with a MSI K9N Platinum motherboard. Everything works fine, but everytime at the MSI Boot screen (Press del to enter bios blabla etc.), i hear 3 beeps.. I was wondering if this is normal or not?
Everything works fine though.
And another thing: Are there any options inside the BIOS i just have to enable/disable for better performance? I heard some stuff about 'spectrum' or something? And the memory command rate, i heard it's better to put it on 1T instead of 2T?
Any suggestions are welcome

Some boards have the habit of beeping more then once when USB-devices are connected. If you want to check your system for this, disconnect all USB-devices and boot your system.
About settings: yes, 1T's slightly better then 2T. However, your system may not boot if you set 1T command rate. If it won't boot, simply reset cmos to set it back to 2T.
Leave Spread Spectrum to Disabled, unless you start OC'ing.

  • Planning To buy MSI K9N Platinum + AMD X2 3800+

    Hello everyone,
as the title as Iam planning to buy a MSI K9N Platinum board with an AMD X2 3800+ for a new system build. Ive been out of the game for a while, the last time I was really up to date on computer technology is when the AMD XP 2500+ Barton was the hottest thing on the market, some what of a new comer to dual core technology. I have a few questions, mainly about the board it self. I did a little searching and that answered some of my question but I have a few more.
Ive read a lot about the shutdown problems from the board when transferring large files or burning DVDs. I have a few questions about that.
From what I see so far, this is a very informative forum and I appreciate any and all information. So here goes:
    1) It says on the MSI website that the ram slot for this motherboard is at 1.8 volts. The ram Iam planning to get is OCZ Platinum EL XTC PC2-6400 1GB 2X512 DDR2 CL4-5-4-15 240PIN DIMM Dual Channel Memory Kit. On the OCZ website it says that the ram modules run at 2.1 volts. My Question is if I stick this ram in the mother board will it boot long enough for me to go into the bios and change the ram voltage to 2.1 volts?
    2) Now Ive read about the shutdown problems with this board. Ive seen a lot of people up the VCore to 1.35V. If I do this along with a bios flash, will this take care of the problems?
    3) Now the dealer that Iam buying my PC from didn't have this board in stock for the last week. He just got them in 2 days ago this week. Therefore Iam assuming he has the lastest version of these boards. Now are these problems taken care of on the new version of these boards? If not what can I do to get rid of them?
    4) Is there anything else I should know about this motherboard?
    Thanks for the the help.

Yes, you could set up manually the voltage to 2.1v perfectly I've got one k9nsli p, with an amdx2 3800+ whit 2gb ddr2 (512x4 twins pack corsair xms2 ddr2 800) that works at 1,9v

My shutdowns problems was resolved by unnistallin' nvidia IDE controller, nothing about vcore or flashin bios... I keep original bios version 1.0 & Core center shows vcore at 1.33v

Good question... 2morrow I'll check on the box of my k9 the part number and will post it

The first week, I was desire burn my k9  shutdowns... shutdowns.... shutdowns... after I find the cause of that ShiX$/#(! (nvidi IDesuxs controller) my life is happy!

  • Can you expand a RAID 5 on an MSI K9N Platinum mainboard?

    Greetings,
I'm planning on buying a MSI K9N Platinum mainboard for the purpose of a HTPC with plenty of storage. I was planning on buying either 3 500GB drives or 3 750 GB drives as budget allows. Since this board holds 6 SATA II connections it is ideal for adding more disks later when prices drop a bit. I would like to use RAID5 for data protection and am wondering if I can expand the raid partition later when I add more drives to the PC.
    Thanks!
    Best,
    Glenn

I have a MSI K9A2 Platinum Motherboard. Bios version 1.8
AMD Phenom II X4 940 3.0 GHZ that I have over clocked to (17.5) 3.4Ghz
However anytime I go over that to say multiplyer set to 18 (3.5 ghz) it still runs but crashes when running high end games. I know I have to go in an adjust voltages. However, in the cell menu I can't access the CPU voltage areas I hit enter but nothing happens. It tells me Grey is defualt, White is stable and red is the obvious not recommended setting, but again I can't access it.  Is there something I need to disable before I mess with the voltages?
I know that doing any of this could fry the chip I have liquid cooling pretty much this idles at 28 deg Celcuis, that is with it over clocked so I know I have som room and know I should only up the vltage slightly. I just need to know how to do it.
I also wanted to adjust the FSB from the current 200 to 270 which I was told is possible with this board and also that is where it should run stable. Again I just need to know how to access these things in the Bios. If its a bios issue I can update to the next one,1.9, but did not see the need to do so. Anyways any help is greatly appreciated. I am familar with overclocking just not with this motherboard. Any user who uses MSI who could offer assitance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  • MSI K9N PLATINUM FRONT PANEL AUDIO

    Hi everybody
I recently mounted an MSI K9N Platinum mainboard. When connecting front panel audio from case connectors on JAUD1, case connectors are marked as follows:
    MIC POWER
    MIC IN
    GROUND
    R-RET
    L-RET
    R-OUT
    L-OUT
which does not match with those written on mainboard user manual for JAUD1 which are FRO PIN 1 TO 9 as follows:
    PORT1L
    GROUND
    PORT 1R
    PRESENCE
    PORT 2R
    SENSE1_RETURN
    SENSE_SEND
    KEY
    PORT2L
    SENSE2_RETURN
.I´ve tried to connect it on many combinations but yet it is not working.
Could someone tell me the right way to do it?
    Thanks in advance.

I think you better ask this question to the manufacturer of the frontpanel stuff, as I have no clue.

  • Msi k9n platinum fixed

hi, i have an msi k9n platinum with the shutdown problem, because i unistall the nvidia ide controller actually the system is stable, running programs like superpi, prime95, sandra 2007 without problem. now, my questios is if i will have problem in  the future, because the RMA in my country is a very big problem. thank and sorry for my bad english.

I have the same mobo and am experiencing the same problem (https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=105390.0) and have sent my computer in to the company I bought it from for them to fix it, but they couldn't reproduce the problem (they testet with 3 burnings, but since this is a very random problem, they didn't encounter it) so I'm getting the computer back tomorrow.
So, I'm going to try uninstalling the driver...
My question is: do I need to reinstall a newer version of the driver or just leave it uninstalled?

hi Timo, welcome to the forum.
Yes, this sounds like a compatibility issue. However, you can try doing this:
    Get into the BIOS, set the boot sequence priority, put your OS HDD as the 1st boot device;
    or reinstall XP, hit F6 for 3rd party driver, and install the RAID driver, even though you don't plan to install the OS to the RAID drives;
Also, file a ticket to MSI - support.msi.com.tw, ask them to take a look at this issue.
Hi Maesus, thanks for the welcome and your reply
Primary boot device was already set to the OS HDD, and I disabled the others (including "Boot from other devices").
I can try the reinstall of XP, but can only do so without the PCI RAID-controller plugged in, otherwise I'm not able to get beyond the motherboard POST.  (Giving me reason to believe that reinstalling XP will not solve the problem, but couldn't hurt to try).
As for the ticket, I'm not a USA/Canada customer, so I'd have to go by my local European website (in this case via the Dutch support site http://support.msi-computer.nl/). They have this "ingenious" system where I have to select my MSI product, but their list is a bit outdated :( The P35 Platinum isn't listed, with the nice remark "If your product isn't listed, it's probably OEM and MSI doesn't support that"
So any suggestions there? Go for the USA support, but with bogus personal information (regarding address), or send a support request via the Dutch support site, but for another motherboard (Perhaps the 975X Platinum?) with a big heading of **** WARNING: ACTUAL QUESTION ABOUT THE MSI P35 PLATINUM BUT YOUR SUPPORT LIST OF MOTHERBOARDS IS OUTDATED **** ?
    Thanks in advance,
    Timo

  • MSI X58 PLATINUM, the latest bios and how to enable turbo boost

    1) Wich motherboard is ? MSI X58 PLATINUM or MSI X58 PLATINUM SLI ?
    2) What is the lastest version Bios and where can i get ?
    3) How to enable turbo boost in this motherboard ?
    4) Thanks so much guys.

My bad. The obvious lack of your self research got the better of me. I do not take helping, if I can, lightly. This is new technology, & a lot of expertise is in short supply. I downloaded the manual on this board & read the bios section, & in CMOS Setup, you should find an "Enable" setting for Turbo Boost. If you don't, please contact MSI Tech Staff @ http://ocss.msi.com.tw Also, (in your manual), is a reference under "Intel Turbo Boost Tech", which clearly states "for further information please refer to Intel's official website". By your original post, CPU-Z says it's an SLI? What did you buy? Does it say on the retail box? At MSI's website, the X58 Platinum (not the SLI), has version 1.0 bios offered in three global region zip files. M7522v1.0 Euro.zip, M7522v1.0 ASIA.zip, & E7522v1.0.zip. J.T.N. is correct, the SLI board takes something else. Are both boards bios's compatable? I have no idea. Recommend step one as to confirm with MSI what board you truly have & go from there.

How could you be sure about that? Unless you've latest Bios version as some people say bios 1.2 is stabile or maybe you could tried to borrow from your friends if they've the AM2 CPU. From there you can verified whther it has shut down problem or not? GD luck.

You asked Mike, but in layman's terms smart fan is a fan that will automatically adjust its rpms based on the system's temperature. S3 is an industry standard for when the computer goes to "sleep" in order to save energy.
i went in bios for a look on smartfan, i found it, mines is disabled and iam unsure how it should be set, so i left it alone, it has options to change it from 40c up to 70c, but iam unsure what it should be set to, could someone tell me ??
i also noticed that in bios i can set the system fans too, 3 settings, 50%, 75% and 100%, mines are all on 100%, again i left them alone at 100% as iam not sure what they should be set to, can someone please tell me ??
This may help, i have an i7 920 and its clocked to 3500, my tempreatures are not too bad, on running the intel burn test the very very most the cpu temp peaks at for a second now and again is 64c.
And my system sounds like a rocket ship, LOL, fans are LOUD.
    hope someone can help ,me.

    hgled8888,
They are all good heatsinks, I do not think you will go wrong with any of them.
As for the BIOS, the difference is Award vs Phoenix. I use mobos from Abit, ASUS, and MSI, you get used to them, if you can get though one BIOS, you will have little trouble getting used to the other.
As for moving over from "The Dark Side of the Force" over to AMD, welcome to the other side, you will love it and never look back.
    Take Care,

  • Msi k9n Platinum owner

I would like to know for those of you who flash the latest bios 1.3 and end up having problems. This new bios cause more problems than what its fixing. The memory divider and htt change setting wont save even you save it and it will force to run your memory at 1T even it set on 2T that will make your computer run stability issue. 1.2 bios is so much better and I don't know if MSI knows about this issue. Post your experience!

had this board a few days now and all seems stable, updated the bios from 1.2 to 1.3 and all went ok untill reboot when i got the cmos bad checksum error, so used rescue disk and all ok now (dunno what happend, but bios version showing 1.3), and the geil 6400 memory seems to be ok (not officially supported)

Everything works fine (as far as I've noticed...) with 1.3 except that the CoreCenter program will not recognize the CPU Fan and lists the CPU fan speed as 0.  Am I the only one that has this problem, minor though it seems.
mine doesn't show the cpu fan speed either, so you're not the only one. i'm sure some of the monitoring stuff isn't correct or accurate, the nvidia monitor reports that the chipset is around 160 C (not right as it'd be affecting/melting the gfx card by now)  , best thing at the moment is my fps rate in farcry has gone up 100+ fps   , makes a change for me to be able to poon others for a change instead of me getting bagged. but it's early days yet so will see how things go on.

  • MSI NEO4 Platinum - Upgrade to bios 1.5 - ps2 mouse connector don't work

I've upgraded just today the bios of my NEO4 to the ver. 1.5. At reboot, i've set all bios parameters like they were before upgrade; now the mouse, if connected to the ps2 with an adaptor for usb mouse, don't work at all. Previously it was connected in the same way and the system was running with ver. 1.1 bios.

Have you tried just connecting the mouse to the USB port? Tried all ports? Tried a regular PS2 mouse just to test?
Did you look for any new settings that may have been added since the1.1 BIOS, Did you take notes?
Did you look for any hidden BIOS features?
Perhaps the settings you used previously just don't work the same way or may behave differently (perhaps like they are supposed to)
Maybe a setting you didn't consider before is now necessary since the upgrade.
Nothing is ever black and white with this stuff, my point is, leave no stone unturned...that should keep you busy in the interim until someone likely comes up with a better solution or suggestion.
