MSI K9N SLI: acpi, shutdown, ethernet "not enough resources"

I recently got the MSI K9N SLI, new ram, gpu to upgrade my computer. I did a fresh install of windows xp pro but the computer kept going into some hibernating/power saving mode suddenly during install of windows. (The power led blinks slowly) After this I can not restart until I switch the I/O button at the back of the psu to off.
-I remembered seeing some options in the bios so I switched off the ability of pci/pcie devices to recover from hibernation/sleep mode.
-The install of windows then got a little further, until it says installing/configuring network devices. A new shutdown (this time a complete shutdown, where I can simply start the pc again at the front). This happens every time.
-I now turned off acpi (advanced power saving... etc) in bios, and the installation of windows went fine. However...
-Now the integrated ethernet lan devices says they cant find enough resources for it to work. So I cannot access the internet. Otherwise the system performs and runs smoothly. Have played games/music..etc.
-Then to solve the ethernet problem I looked here in these forums where I found this post:
https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=98742.0
This seemed to be a solution...however, it sets the acpi function to enabled, which causes the shutdown/hibernation/sleep mode during install.
When I disable this bios function, everything except the lan problem, works fine. However this seems to make windows install the wrong HAL or device driver for the ethernet/communication part of windows.
It also seem that others are having trouble with their integrated lan. One person's solutin was to install a separate ethernet card, which I am going to try. But I would like to have the benefit of having acpi enabled as it seem to be an important function safetywise.
https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=99445.msg722820#quickreply
I can recreate the shutdown during windows install every time by enabling the acpi function in bios. Although turning it on after installing windows doesnt seem to do anything, as windows seem to already have installed the wrong driver components. It also doesnt solve the ethernet problem as this requires at least a repair-install of windows.
I apologize for the long post but more information is generally better, right?!
Any ideas of how to solve this?
Thank you to everyone who replies anything helpful!

Just installed the new harddrive and this time I only disabled the ethernet lan during windows install. Then installing the amd cpu software and the realtek audio drivers.
However I am experiencing some minor unstabilities, one restart while surfing so far. Been reading about similar problems with other k9n sli users and if more restarts happen I am returning this mb and getting an Asus. Had Asus for the three last upgrades and never had any problems. Could be a fluke of course. Heard good things about Msi though.
What PSU are you using including the +12V@ value A? Gd luck.

  • MSI K9N SLI Platinum - SATA not hot-swappable?

can i get a confirmation that K9N SLI Platinum motherboard does NOT support hot-swapping the SATA drives. I switched to this board for the AM2 socket and now i am not seeing the removable drive bays as hot-swappable (ie. no green arrow down by the clock). maybe i am missing a bios setting?

I check two machines today and one is just fine using the removable trays and any drives we put in there show up in the 'safely remove hardware' tool. the other machines does NOT detect any drives inserted while the machine is powered on and something else - under the 'policies' tab the top two choices ('optimize for quick removal' instead of 'optimize for performance') are greyed out but there is an option below them that i can check and uncheck (i cannot remember the exact title of this option).
I assume you are trying the same drives when you swap the removable trays between the two machines.  Some drives have a jumper that has to be removed to enable SATA II operation, so if they aren't the same physical drives you might want to check that.
I think the stuff below the greyed out area in your 'Policies' tab is a check box that enables/disables write caching.  You might want to try checking/unchecking that.
Also, you should check out the IDE/ATA Controller selection in the Device Manager.  Take a look at each instance of controller that shows up there.  SATA controllers actually a primary and secondary channel and each channel has a master and a slave drive, just like old IDE controllers.  Look at each tab on both machines and make sure all of the drive's features are set identically on these tabs.  Sometimes Windows can try to outsmart you. For example, I have an SATA II Maxtor drive that has its transfer mode downgraded to SATA I by Windows (there is a little yellow triangle with a '!' in the middle of the lower part of the panel).  The help balloon for this arrtibutes it to 'excessive transfer errors.'  I haven't tried to chase that one down yet, however.
As far as setting the machines up the same way, sometimes the sequence of driver installations can have an effect.  For example, a RAID driver installed during Windows setup using the 'F6 - install other driver' option can behave differently from one installed with the Device Manager 'Update Driver' function.
Sorry I can't be of more help here.
Maybe someone else in this forum is a bit more knowledgable on the subject.

So I recently jumped ship from XP Home to Vista x64 to XP pro x64 and I am having issues updating my drivers I downloaded the MCP55_64_9.17_MW31006 at this site http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=driver&maincat_no=1&prod_no=1415

When I run the install though nothing happens Nvidia splash then nothing and the files are not recognized by the device manager.
Any idea what the issue could be? sadly need the ethernet update so I can connect to the internet lol also the 2 discs have no effect neither work vista or the xp (tried vista since the x64 drives actually worked on it)

Vista x64 ultimate. I wanted to try X64 XP but I ran into problems thus the original post ^-^
Vista is nice I could live with it for Dx10 but man UAC sucks every attempt to disable = vista freak out and repair the file ^-^
ATM I use XP Home with the DX10 crack (I own vista so I don't see a issue) but yet to install any games on it. I will load up and check it out   Still the fact I get medium with x8 aa is good imo. Game looks fantastic and with luck the FC2 engine won't be such a resource whore like crysis. I recall the Sandune (think thats the name) for FC1 even on low settings things still looked fantastic.

  • MSI K9N SLI V2 MS-7390 onboard sound problem

    Hi,
My PC has stopped outputing sound. It was working fine yesterday morning, but when I got home from work 8 hours later it no longer seemed to want to play any sound. I know my taste in music is a bit naff but it not playing anything is a bit extreme!
I've checked the volume, reinstalled the sound drivers, checked the speakers and the cable by hooking them up to an iPod and I'm still not getting any sound. The onboard sound is enabled on the BIOS. Device Manager is showing no conflicts or problems, as far as it's concerend it's working. I've had a look at the motherboard and there's nothing I can see looks like it's shorted. I've even emptied my HDD and done a clean install of Windows XP again.
I'm really at a loss to see why this has happened and what to do to fix it. I guess buying a sound card would be one way of getting round it but I'm still puzzled about why it's doing this in the first place.
My motherboard is an MSI K9N SLI V2 MS-7390 and the on board audio is Realtek.

No, your bad choice of music shouldn't be the problem. That is if not a neighbour broke in to your house to stop the darn noise. Do you know if someone has changed anything?
Does the rest of the system work fine? I'm thinking there was a problem with return from hibernation or something.
What source do you have? CD for example.

  • MSI K9N SLI-2F+4GB DDR2 big problem....

    I got this PC:
    MSI K9N SLI-2F
    AMD Athlon64 x2 4200+
    2x1 GB DDR2 Vitesta Extrema 800+
    WD 500 GB AAKS
    LEADTEK 8800 GTS 640 MB
    450 W PSU
Recently i got another 2x1 GB DDR2 Vitesta Extrema 800+.My OS was Windows XP SP2.Of course i knew about de 32bit SO limitation and didn't expect my Windows to take advantage of all 4Gigs.My PC started to freeze on random ocassions.so i decided to install Windows Vista x64.It didn't start to install it just freezes after unpacking (gray bar with black background screen).I take out 2 Gigs.Works like a charm,so it isn't a dvd read problem. I inserted the 2GIGS back PC doesn't even get to boot screen(with 2GB works).I installed SP1 too,to get all hotfixes up to date.same thing.Memory hole is enabled in bios.Tested the sticks 1 by 1 no problem with eighter of them.Just as i write i am running the recently bought sticks, for 2 days,no problem. My bios is 3.8 now,but i downgraded from 3.9 thinking it may solve the problem.I also don't think that the PSU is the problem, because before i had 4x512 DDR2 800 GEIL Ultra (2.1V) wich practicly need same power to run.Hope somebody can help me :(

Quote from: Bas on 26-March-08, 22:01:33
You have tested with all sorts of el-cheapo PSU's.
Do you really believe any of those will run a power eating videocard like a 8800GTS?
I believe it's the videocard and/or the powersupply.
As you managed to install XP without a problem it seems, well then the memory and CPU are fine, as they use a whole lot of memory and CPU power during install.
It would have stalled during installation as well if it was the board/CPU/memory.
However, during that stage the videocard isn't initialized to full potential, but just acting like a 100 year old VGA card and thus not using any power or GPU calculations at all.
Please test your system on a >30A @ 12V powersupply SINGLE rail, to exclude the PSU.
Also, take your friends videocard and put it in your system, but with a heavy 12V amp psu.
Wouldn't be the first time it was both.
Bad memory/CPU/board usually results into BSOD, but underpowered PSU can also cause freezing and those nVidia videocards do react on unstable power by reducing stuff....so yes it can run underpowered...but how long and how good?
BAS, thanks but no thanks.Already solved, and it wasn't the PSU, you PSU FANATIK ).I already said i finished Crysis with this stinky PSU ,no problems.Go buy a PSU that costs twice your PC if that makes you happy, untill proven otherwise i stick to my cheap'o PSU

  • Trouble with MSI K9N SLI V2

Okay, so I've been building a computer from scratch for a while now. I've been using :
    MSI K9N SLI V2 mainboard.
    AMD Athlon 64x2 Processor
    2x Kingston 1gb RAM DDR2
    nVidia e-GeForce 6200
    ATX Mid-Tower Case
    450 Watt ATX PSU
I'm using my old computer's HD and CD Drive for the HD and CD Drives.
    Here's my problem :
I connect everything together, and use the nVidia e-GeForce 6200 graphics card (there is no monitor plug built in.) plug in the monitor and can't get anything on the screen. The HD and CD Drives are running, Mainboard is running, all fans are running. Just no Visuals. I've plugged everything back to my old computer and it works fine. I can't figure out what's wrong. Can anyone help me out please?

Well you've ben asked what cpu you're using. Athlon 64 X2 is not a sufficient answer as there are dozens of models with varying cores. Without proper info we can't help you so please specify the exact model (e.g. Athlon 64 X2 4800+, Brisbane G2). This info is crucial to tell if the cpu used is supported or might require a bios update. That brings us to the next question: Do you know the bios version flashed on the board? Did it ever run?
In addition your psu seems quite old, what model is it? As your list of psu specs is a bit confusing did I get right that psu is at 24A on +12v?
Also try runnig board out of case as Bosskiller suggested with just one mem stick and only necessary components plugged in (no drive connected).

    Hi,
According to the error message, please use performance monitor to diagnose if it is a memory-related bottleneck and you can use the counters of the memory part in the article below:
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/2008.08.pulse.aspx
In addition, it may be due to thousands of open connections to the server are in a TIME_WAIT state. You can run "netstat -an" command on the affected server and client. If you see mutiple connections in the TIME_WAIT state, you can follow the article
to increase the number of TCP/IP connections:
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee377084(v=bts.70).aspx
Furthermore, if you are running windows server 2003, please make sure that you have installed the KB 948496 and stop all services that you don't need.

  • Error 0x800706b9 (2147944121) Not enough resources ae available to complete this operation

Every time I try to install my new printer, or when I used my old one, I keep on getting this message. I've tried everything from starting the spooler to editing the registry key but nothing seems to work. It seems to be an internal problem because the two printers I tried both had this issue.
    Could someone please help?

    Hello Raisinette434,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you are unable to install software for either a new printer or an old. Judging by the error you have mentioned, "Error 0x800706b9 (2147944121) Not enough resources are available to complete this operation", my first thought is that there is not enough memory on the computer to met the minimum requirements.
What is the model of printer? Also, the error seems to be one from a Windows Operating System, is this correct? If so, what is the version of Windows, including version, e.g. Windows 7?
    Hope to hear back.

  • Not enough resources to delete 1 row or column

I used to have several databases (several xlsx files), each of which ~340kB. Each of them in one template. Each of them has 140 rows (remaininh have been removed). Some of those files, however for no reason grew up to 3,1 MB and it lasts quite long to open
    them.
Any effort to edit them, e.g. removing 1 columnt or one row is impossible as the program says there's not enough resource for it. OFC it is silly, my PC is really fast and it happens even if I try ti remove empty column or groups of cells.
Is anybody able to help me?

    Hi,
According to your description, this issue might be caused by the file size of an Excel workbook unexpectedly increase exponentially.
We may try to reduces file size and check if it is helpful. Here are some methods that worked for some customers, I copied here.
    Method one:
one of reasons for increase in file size may be pivots, apart from that the issue may occur if :
    1. Have blank characters in empty cells
    2. Unwanted formatting in cells (example :say you have formatted the entire row/column with a particular color, where in you do not require that in all the cells)
    Solutions/Workarounds :
    1. How to remove the cells with blank character:
    - Select the entire worksheet
    - Press F5 on the keyboard, this would bring up the "GO TO" window
    - Click on Special
    - Select Blanks and then click OK
    - Click on the Edit menu and then click on clear contents
    2. Download and install the addin :Microsoft Excel Excess Formatting Cleaner Add-in to clear unwanted formatting:
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=ECFD076C-B873-48CC-B842-DA999C848C82&displaylang=en
    3. Save the file as .XLSB, it reduces file size.

    Method Two:
Go to each and every sheet of the file. Press 'End' and then 'Home' button. It will take you to the last cell which excel recongnising as your last range cell and putting it in to memory.
You will find that this cell where cursor has gone is far below and right side of the actual range used by you.
Now delete the rows and columns which are in excess from your actual cell to cell which persuming.
Do it for all sheets and save the file.
