MSI k9n6sgm-v - problem installing SM Bus Controller

in Device Manager, theres a yellow exclamation point by SM Bus Controller.. everytime i try to update the driver with the mobo CD or with the drivers from this site, it installs fine, eliminates the yellow exclamation point by SM Bus Controller but when i restart my computer.. boots to bios screen and stuff, then it flashes to a blue screen real quick and restarts.. then thats where i have to choose "Last known good configuration" to get back to desktop and still have the SM Bus Controller problem
i have one more problem with my computer.. in Network Connections, when i goto my "Local Area Connection" icon.. i right click and goto properties to tick the box that says "Show icon in notification area when connected", and when i press OK, my computer freezes and thats when i have use Ctrl+Alt+Delete to exit everything out, i need helpppp!

Call Microsoft "manually". Perhaps they can help you out without charge. The mere content on a Home disk and a Prof disk is the same.
Don't think it'll work, but you could try to boot into SafeMode, remove the controller(s) in DeviceManager, and reboot.

  • K8N Neo Plat SM Bus Controller Problems

Hi, I just did a recent build witht the K8N Neo Plat and am having some problems.
My original build kept getting corrupt files from any self extractor that did a self verify.  I could install windows and the MSI NForce Drivers but many files got corrupted.  I finally figured out it was Bad Ram and replaced the PC 3200 I Was using with a stick of PC 2700 I had lying around.  I installed windows with no problems and all of the windows updates(which were where I was getting corrupt files).  But then when I installed the NForce3 Drivers from the MSI Cd I get blue screen of death, which I did not recieve with the bad ram.  I then revert to last known good setting and can install of of the NForce3 drivers except for SM Bus Controller. I have tried using the NForce3 Drivers from the MSI CD and a download version.  Both won't install, it still shows up with an exclamation point next to it in device manager.  I have tried choosing the driver directly, but I get an accessed denied message.   The only problem is when SM Bus won't install, I cant run my new 6800 GT at AGP 8X.  It stays stuck in PCI mode.
Also I see a lot of talk about CPU Temps reported by BIOS.  I am using the 1.1 Bios,  and it shows the CPU running at 65-70C.  Core Center shows this also.  Is this just a misreported temp?  Im using a 3400+ CLawhammer CG Revision with a Zalman 7000 ALCu with Arctic SIlver 5,  the HSF seems to be screwed down completely, but the temp reading still makes me nervous.
    Thanks for any help.

    apply minimal heat paste

  • SM Bus Controller Problem

I was updating my driver's via the software section and I cannot figure out what I need to download to fix my problem. It shows that I do not have a driver installed for the SM Bus Controller. I cannot figure it out though. Any help would be awesome.

we need the model number and OS version (XP, Vista, 7?). SM bus is generally part of the main chipset driver.

  • 848P Neo (SM Bus Controller) is not there?

Can anyone help me, I am on an MSI 848P using realtek ethernet. I have tried using driver utility cd but cant find anything on SM bus controller. Tried My os xp cd and it couldnt find the drivers.
    My comp is a p4 2.6 ghz
    512 ddram
    ATI 128 9600 graph card
    On board sound and ethernet
    80 gig hd
    dvd and cd rw drives
    floppy
The power went out of my apartment Yesterday and then tried to come back on and kinda of surged. It fried my DSL modem and messed with the router. The computer then started acting funny.  Like it would start for 1 second then turn off. So i finally got it to turn back on and then bam, The ? mark came up for the SM Bus Controller which i have no clue how to do anything about it. My internet is kinda of screwy. Would that have anything to do with the SM Bus Controller or the on board ethernet???? Also is this a Mother board based Controller or is this a computer problem outside of the MB. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you

You need to install the Intel INF Drivers.

  • Sorry another SM Bus Controller post

ok ive searched google and read all the forums including this one about the sm bus controller. but im getting the same problem as everyone else, ive installed the infinst_enu from intels site, and ive installed the one from the msi site. no matter what every time i reboot it wants to install that controller. someone said since i switched motherboards other was an nforce2 chipset, that it will do this until i repair/reinstall windows.  I hope thats not the case.  anyways help would be greatly appreciated.  also all the times i have installed the drivers i never saw it get to 100% insatll it was always at 15% then it just disappeared.  maybe if i could manually install them from a folder that would work, but the inf drivers are always packed in a setup program.

Do you have Intel's IAA installed on system and which Operating System are you using???
As I found out.....Intel's IAA does not work with 848P chipset....and therefore I could not load the infinst_enu file. (this is an INF file BTW which tells the OS which drivers to use)
Please NOTE: if your system passes BOOT/POST then 99% of the time it's down to a SOFTWARE problem and NOT hardware.... (99% that is   )

  • Sm bus controller (p965 neo)

    hi..
i have a new computer with the msi p965 neo board .
i have noticed that i have a problem with something called sm bus controller , which doesnt allow me to connect several usb divices together , i mean , i tried to connect 2 joysticks but only 1 was recognized ...
i looked for drivers for that but couldnt find any .

Try un-installing the USB drives and let windows re-detect the drivers again.
You can also try updating your intel.inf driver from Intel.

Can you please tell me where I can download a Windows 8.1 driver for SM Bus Controller on a HP Pavilion 11-h003sa x2 PC
It's the only device that Windows 8.1 can't find a driver for - I've tried to update the driver software in Device manager for it and it doesn't find anything.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi:
    Try this Intel chipset driver...
    https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=20775&lang=eng
If the auto install file doesn't work, download and unzip the second file listed (zip file).
Go to the device manager and click on the smbus controller needing drivers, click on the driver tab.  Click on Update Driver.
Select the Browse my computer for driver software option and browse to the driver folder that was created when you unzipped the file.
Make sure the Include Subfolders box is checked and see if the driver installs that way.
For the mouse pointer problem try reinstalling the touchpad drivers.

  • Need SM Bus Controller Driver for A75-S231

Unfortunately I am without my system and backup disks and I am in desperate need of a driver for the SM Bus Controller. Problem surfaced after re-install of XP Home.
I called Toshiba tech support to identify the motherboard chipset shipped with my unit (specs listed at end of post) so as to locate and download the driver. Unbelievably, Tech is not equipped to identify the make or model of my motherboard or identify the chipset. Third Party software tells me I have a Toshiba EDW10 Motherboard and tech searched the internet and told me I have some VIA motherboard and good luck finding your driver.
Please help, I didnt think that Toshiba of all people would be unable to identify their own systems but here I am 4 hours later bothering you good people and still hunting. Does anyone have the SM Bus controller driver for the A75-S231 or tell me what chipset was shipped with my unknown motherboard?
My system specs are as follows:
OS Name Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
    Version 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2 Build 2600
    System Manufacturer TOSHIBA
    System Model Satellite A75

SM Bus Controller Device ID (from Device Manager) PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4353&SUBSYS_FF001179&REV_18\3&61A AA01&0&A0
    Motherboard Toshiba EDW10???
    Thanks fo your help.

    Hi
As far as I know your unit must be an US notebook model and please try to check Toshiba US download page under http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/su/su_sc_home.jsp
Please dont be mad on tech support but I dont see any reason why they should know every technical detail of your notebook. Toshiba has designed drivers for every hardware component that you can have anytime you want and install it 1000 times if you want. Toshiba guarantee that it will work properly and I dont see any problem there.
Technical details you can get from Authorized service partners in your country.
    Good luck!

  • Satellite P10-504 WXP driver for video, modem and SM bus controller

I have just had to replace the hard disk in my P10-504 and I now have lots of problems!
1 - I used the retore disks and XP home is installed BUT the video, modem and SM bus controller all all flagged in Control Panel and not having drivers installed! The modem I can live without but I would like the video to work properly and the SM bus controller is also pretty essentil. Guess what, I can't
    a) find my model listed on the Toshiba website and
    b) I can't find drivers for either the video or SM bus controller.
I have downloaded the 'universal' Nvidia driver but it doesn't work! As for the SM bus controller, I've no idea where to look!
    Any ideas please?
    Thanks
    Tim

    Hi
Your posting is a little surprise because all XP drivers for your notebook must be available on the Toshiba driver page.
Did you choose the right notebook series and did you download and install all necessary drivers???
As first its important to install the chipset utility and depending on installed graphic card
You have to choose and to install the right display driver!
Again! The drivers are on the page!

    Hi
To be honest I doubt that you have installed all files from the Toshiba website. Normally the Toshiba website contains all drivers and tools that you need to restore factory settings after this there are no more yellow exclamation marks or unknown devices in device manager.
By the way: What installation order you have used?
On the Toshiba website you can find the installation instructions document. This is a list for the recommended driver installation order.
    Check this!!!

  • "SM Bus Controller" Driver Won't Load

    Hello all, newby here,
Building a new computer(it's been a couple years since the last one) and at the last minute chose a MSI MB over my usual ASUS.
    p35 Neo2- FR
    Core 2 Quad Q6600, LGA 775, 2.40 GHz
    2- 2GB Buffalo Certified DDR2 Dimm, 667Mhz, unbuffered, Non-EEC
PNY NVIDIA Quadro FX 1500, 256Mb
    Seagate 250GB sata2 16m
    Antec Solo case, sweet!
    Antec Truepower Trio, 550 watt, ATX12v v2.2 & EPS12v
    Bios   AMI V1.1  5/11/2007
    Win XP Pro 64
    ver. 5.2.3790 SP1 build 3790
So when loading the OS the MSI support CD doesn't support the 64 bit OS, so had to manually load the NIC driver and the sound driver.
but in device mangler there's still one driver that won't load
    "SM bus controller"
From within device manager got it to look at the entire MSI support CD but it still won't load, Google is no help either and can't find the P35 chipset drivers at Intel either, I'm guessing this is a chipset driver, the "system management bus controller"?
    thanks in advance

Here are the Intel Chipset drivers for your board: http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=driver&maincat_no=1&prod_no=1261
It's the last one at the bottom of the page.
How come I didn't see that!! I used the other drivers on that page, dohhh. I got the drivers from the Intel auto loader on their site. After loading them the yellow question mark went away for the SM bus controller but then lost all the USB root hubs and the USB mouse, had to remove and re-install them all with the keyboard. Man this build is a real education.
