MSI k9nd speedster running slow

Hi All,
I recently acquired the K9nd speedster 1....
AMD opteron 2 x 8354 2.2ghz quad cores,
2x Arctic 64pro fans
8mb Bios ver 2.20
4GIG ECC
Palit Nvidia 9800 GTX+ 512mb.....This is installed on the lower PCI e slot.....as the sata cables get in the way of the card
1x 1TB Hard Disk system
5x 500GIG for storage pool (not yet connected)
Kingwin Lazer 1000w
Zalman Z9+
I installed photoshop and noticed that to do a simple cloud render on a 5mb photo takes between 6-10 sec compared to my other computer running a intel core 2 duo 2.2 with 4gig which does it in under a second.
Even when opening preview in windows the pictures take a bit of time to come up...other apps like explorer/
I have tried this in Win xp, 7 and 8....and with another graphics card 8500 512mb
I checked the task monitor and the CPU and memory never seem to go above 20-40% of use
It seems that its being bottlenecked some where but I have no clue what to look or do next.
Thank you for you help in advance...if you need more info please let me know.

You better ask these guys: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=911736

  • Msi K9ND Speedster -- Motherboard Problems

I need some help with a MSI K9ND Speedster motherboard which i purchased on ebay, apparently new.
    Im using
    Opteron Socket F (1207) 2218 95W 2.6GHz -- OSA2218GAA6CQ
    512MB P/N - NT512T72U89A0BV-3C x4 -- 1GB per cpu.
    Old PCI Graphics Card.
    Floppy Drive
    Enermax 600W & 430W
Im running 2 Enermax PSU's, 1 600w, other 430w with them both supplying power to the ATX12V 8-Pin socket, they also supply power to my Geforce 8800GTS XXX graphic cards, when i get the system running.... It could be my psu setup is causing me problems, but the motherboard is giving me strange behaviour, and its hard to say, plus i don't have a drop in PSU replacement.
The second cpu in cpu1, does not seem to be registering.... but is reported in the temperature screen at around 33C, while Cpu in Cpu0 is detected, but is said to be running at around 75C "i checked the cooler multiple times"... Ive got 4 sticks of ram in the computer, but only one stick is being detected.... though its hard to say with the limited bios features... The cpu0 is reported to be running at 1.3v, while cpu1 is running at 1.13v...
I need some help from some other K9ND speedster system owners, as ive been trouble shooting & researching all day, and ive not been able to find much in helpful information...
I tryed updating my bios to 1.3, but it tells me something about "not enough DMI OEM line space" and makes me reboot...
    My brain hurts

Okay... The Enermax Galaxy 1000W arrived this afternoon, and i installed it and all the other other hardware over the last few hours...
The K9ND is not posting with the memory installed in Dimm sockets net to CPU1 ? and since i last posted i  bought an 8mb or 8MB chip with v2.10 flashed on it, and ive installed it in the motherboard, thankfully with no problems, but no change so far.
System Don't seem to be shorting with the case, as i wouldn't be able to turn it on...
System is booting without the ram in Dimms1, and im now writing on the forum using the machine...
My sli graphics cards are giving me a code 12, something about there not being enough resources, hopefully i can fix that problem...
I checked with cpu-z, to see what my cpu information is, and both would seem to be the same, though its reporting my memory is working in single channel more, and not double channel like it should with ram in dimm0 sockets 3&4.
I got a headake, need some more help & suggestions please.

  • K9ND Speedster & Dual PCI-E 8800GTS Graphics Cards

Hehe, this is funny question, or just down right depressing if your in my shoes...
Ive been having problems with a K9ND motherboard on another topic, which i had to return. Ive just bought another K9ND Speedster motherboard, and im woundering... Has any one had a Dual PCI-E graphics card setup with the K9ND Speedster, as ive looked at the signatures for most of the top Workstation/Server posters with K9ND boards, and notice they only have 1 PCI-E installed.
Does Dual PCI-E 8800GTS cards work correctly on the K9ND Speedster motherboard, as i had the dredded code 12 "not enough memory resources, disable one of the devices", when i had them installed on the last motherboard.
I really hope that i can run my 2 8800GTS XXX graphics cards with my new MSI K9ND Speedster when it arrives before christmas hopefully, as i need 3 or 4 screens with gaming graphics.

  • K9ND Speedster 2ND System To Be Built

      Ok, the time has come.
I've purchased 8GB of ECC Registered DDR2 667MHz Memory. (1GB Stick for each slot this time)
I will be using the AMD Opteron Quad Core 2347 Processors. (OS2347WAL4BGE) 95W version.
    (OS2347PAL4BGE) is the 68W Edition.
And Of Course the MSI K9ND Speedster-WA6 once purchased.
Hopefully its the exact same as this one without the VGA.
    I'll be purchasing a (Either 1 or 2) - 1TB Hard Drives SATA.
And a nVidia 8600GT this time around instead of a ATI Radeon. (This is still up in the air, but Mem size is 512MB for Video)
    The question:
What size Power Supply should I get?
    Or Specifically Power Rating (Watts)?
Will a 800W version do the trick for Quad Processors?
I will not be adding anything else to the system. I can burn DVD's on this one since it has 2 NEC Drives.

I would suggest that one for testing

  • Warranty service for K9ND Speedster

Hello Good People of the World!
I seem to have a problem and need some input if anyone can offer any.
I sold a K9ND Speedster to a man in Canada. Within a week of its arrival, he writes and says its defective. He contacted MSI Canada and they go over the issue and say it needs an RMA, to contact the seller (Me) and get an RMA and send it back. I contacted MSI and ordered another board for the customer (I aim to please). When the defective item arrived, I shipped the replacement. I shipped the replacement to MSI in California. I was contacted and was told the unit was not defective. They will be shipping it back to me. 5 days ago, the guy I sent a replacement to contacts me and said the second board is defective. I asked him what components he was using to build his system. Everything he told me should work except the power supply. It was a common 300 watt. It had a 20 pin connector. I suggested he contact a qualified tech to help him with his situation because he did not have adequate power. At this point, I figure he has no idea what he's doing. The contacted me 2 days ago and says he brought it to a "Qualified" tech. Had it tested with the now correct power supply and finds it defective.
Can anyone offer some in-site to this problem? I had already replaced a board that was not defective.
    Thanks

    It Works!!!!

  • In search of msi 945gt speedster-a4r (MS-9632) or low power consumption

When and where can I find the msi 945gt speedster-a4r or MS-9632?
Although this board has been announced, appears on the website with specifications, and has been exhibited at tech shows, I can not find it in the USA.     Update:  MSI, itself, did not return any of my calls or email but one of their distributors, ASI, was very nice and said this board would appear in the USA at end of May 2006.      New update:  ASI now says end of April.
I want a system that consumes low power yet will run a controller board in a pci-e slot at x4, 8, or 16,
this MSI board looks like the thing: it runs a core duo yonah type processor and has a pci-e x4 slot.
So far, the 975x boards like Aopen have dual pci-e x16 slots but they appear only to work only with graphics boards.
I want to put a raid controller areca arc-1230 into the slot.  Areca was very responsible and actually tested the 975 boards to find out that they did not work at this time.

I'm afriad that nobody can gives you a definate answer on your question as this concern many factors to say as in production lines, marketing and distribution.

  • K9ND SPEEDSTER-WA6, I need to use 2 3Ware PCIE controllers

    Hi,
I need to build a server which needs two 3Ware 9690SA 8 port cards. I am thinking the server model with onboard VGA.
I will be using 64 bit windows 2003. Also two dualcore processors and 8GB of ram.
This board should support two PCIE8X class cards, but I was wondering if there are any real experiences.
And if somebody knows about the support for OPTERON QUAD 2350 2.0GHZ SKT F 4X512KB 68W WOF PIB. Now this processor is not much more expensive than 2218 dualcore. Would be nice to try.
Is there any real software for monitoring fan speeds, cpu temperatures etc. for this board. I need email notifications. 3Ware can handle the storage side.
    Best Regards,
    Markku

Well, here it is ... according to MSI Europe, the current K9ND Speedster boards will not support Barcelona out-of-the-box. You don't need a bios-update, but you need an entire new bios chip. The data needed to control the quad-cores does not fit in a 4Mbit chip, so MSI is going to use an 8Mbit chip. So, you'll need to swap bios chips. you will have to contact MSI in your country to obtain one.
Also, you won't have all features that come with these new cpu's. One disadvantage of having those cpu's on this K9 board is that there are no split power lanes to the chips, so all cores will get the same voltage. It is possible, however, to change clock speed on every chip independently.

  • K9ND Speedster board won't work with opteron 2212

    Hello,
Does anybody know if this board is compatible with opteron 2212? I am building a computer and when I plug both cpu's all I get is a black screen. If I plug in one cpu (it does not matter which one) the system boots.
Has anybody built a PC with this board using dual CPUs (Opteron 2212)?  I checked the numbers and I have a matching pair. Am I missing something? I checked MSI's Qualified Vendor List and I don't see this particular CPU. They only show Opteron 2210, 2216, 2218, and 2220, does that mean that I can only used the CPU's on this list?
    Please help!
Here is the link for the motherboard that I have. I have the workstation type, which does not have a built in VGA.

How are placed your memory sticks?
Do you use 8pin CPU power cable rather than 4pin?
Hello, thanks for the fast replies.
My memory sticks are placed in DIMM one and two of CPU 0 and it's working with one CPU. If I plug in both CPUs with I memory stick on each (DIMM ONE) or 2 sticks (DIMM one and two) the system does not boot.
I also noticed that If  i plug in the 4 stick (4gb) of RAM in CPU 0 the system does not boot either.
Quote from: Hans on 24-August-08, 06:47:28
Let's go simple with this one:
    1. The bios is NOT the isue here. 1.3 simply works with the 2212.
    2. You installed your stuff onto another K9ND Speedster and that booted. Was it a K9ND Speedster V1 or V2 that your friend has?
    3. The board was RMA'd, right? Are you 100% sure that you didn't receive the same board back as you sent? Did you mark the old board in a way that you can actually tell that it was the one you RMA'd?
    * Yes, I installed all the stuff to my friend's board and the same thing happened. He bought the board at the same place... :(
    * Yes the board  was RMA'd. I am sure that I got another one because the first board that I had before did not work with one CPU plugged in either and the new one does.
Quote from: Bas on 24-August-08, 22:22:54
You did connect all power-plugs properly did you?
Yes, I did. I plugged in the 24pin and the other next to it 8 pin.
Do you guys have any idea what could be wrong? Is it something that I have to change in the set up to tell the bios to accept 2 cpus or igb memory sticks? or is there something I have to change in the board on the board?
I really appreciate your help and effort. Thank you.

  • K9ND Speedster 2 sata speed limit?

    Hi everyone
I just bought a SSD for one of my pc's.
    pc specs:
    K9ND speedster 2
    2x Opteron 2380
    4x2GB reg ecc pc-5300
    XFX ATI 4890BE
    SSD: OCZ Agility 2 60GB
I see a lot of people who reach 250MB/s read and write with this SSD, but I get stuck at 150MB/s read and write.
Is this a known issue? Should i get myself a SATA controller to fix this problem or is there another way?
    Thnx for the support

But don expect too much anyway, it's software controller and not a real hardware controller.
If you want real speed, get a controller with PCI-e 4x, own CPU and memory, those controllers will knock you off your feed.
But they are € 300 and up in price.
If you want RAID speed, get a real controller.
To give you an idea: http://www.lsi.com/storage_home/products_home/internal_raid/megaraid_sas/value_line/megaraid_sas_9261-8i/index.html
And go SAS drives instead, SATA is simply slow compared to SAS and SAS is just as expensive as a Raptor but twice the speed.

    Hi
Need some help, my MacBook Pro is running slow it takes like 10 - 13 minutes to start, most of the times when I'm going to type something, it doesn't matter which app do I use (Facebook, messages, search on google, it get stuck once in a while and the beach ball appears for a few seconds and then works again, or when I navigate between apps and tried to click on something it takes a while and beach ball comes up I just  reinstalled OS X Yosemite again and ran CleanMyMAc and got almost 2 gb deleted, but still the same problem, I use this computer for work on java apps. Adobe Creative Cloud - has anybody had any luck running Adobe CC on a new mac mini? Does it run slow for Photoshop?

Adobe CC applications are very large and the base Mac mini isn't a good choice because it has only 4GB of RAM and has a slow standard hard drive. To get the most out of ACC you should upgrade the mini to at least 8GB. I'd also choose an SSD or Fusion drive for better performance.

  • My mac takes a long time to log on, running slow

my imac is running slow & takes a long time logging on, anyone knows why this happens?

If you have more than ten or so files or folders on your Desktop, move them, temporarily at least, somewhere else in your home folder.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except keyboard, mouse, and monitor, if applicable. Launch the usual set of applications you use when you notice the problem.
    Step 1
Launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the page that opens.
    Select the CPU tab.
Select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for % User, % System, and % Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the System Memory tab. What values are shown in the bottom part of the window for Page outs and Swap used?
    Step 2
Launch the Console application in the same way as above, and select “kernel.log” from the file list. Post the dozen or so most recent messages in the log — the text, please, not a screenshot.
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Do not post many repetitions of the same message.

  • Macbook running slow

    Hi,
A few people have asked this question, my macbook is running very slow and the mouse spinning circle comes up quite a lot. I am unsure of why it is doing this.
I have attached a copy of the EtreCheck I have done on my system.
Can you please have a look and see if you can see if there is anything wrong, as I am unsure of what I am looking at.
    Thanks for your help

Either update or remove the Vodafone software and see whether there's an improvement.
Any third-party software that doesn't install by drag-and-drop into the Applications folder, and uninstall by drag-and-drop to the Trash, is a system modification.
Whenever you remove system modifications, they must be removed completely, and the only way to do that is to use the uninstallation tool, if any, provided by the developers, or to follow their instructions. If the software has been incompletely removed, you may have to re-download or even reinstall it in order to finish the job.
I never install system modifications myself, and except as stated in this comment, I don't know how to uninstall them. You'll have to do your own research to find that information.
Here are some general guidelines to get you started. Suppose you want to remove something called “BrickMyMac” (a hypothetical example.) First, consult the product's Help menu, if there is one, for instructions. Finding none there, look on the developer's website, say www.brickmymac.com. (That may not be the actual name of the site; if necessary, search the Web for the product name.) If you don’t find anything on the website or in your search, contact the developer. While you're waiting for a response, download BrickMyMac.dmg and open it. There may be an application in there such as “Uninstall BrickMyMac.” If not, open “BrickMyMac.pkg” and look for an Uninstall button. The uninstaller might also be accessed by clicking the Customize button, if there is one.
Back up all data before making any changes.
You will generally have to restart the computer in order to complete an uninstallation. Until you do that, there may be no effect, or unpredictable effects.
If you can’t remove software in any other way, you’ll have to erase and install OS X. Never install any third-party software unless you're sure you know how to uninstall it; otherwise you may create problems that are very hard to solve.
Trying to remove complex system modifications by hunting for files by name often will not work and may make the problem worse. The same goes for "utilities" such as "AppCleaner" and the like that purport to remove software.
