What a birthday, huh? I hope you and the better half is taking it alright!
What comes alive? No beeps?
If all fans start spinning, but nothing on screen, I recommend you take the mobo out of the case - after pulling power cable out - and put it on a non-static surface.
Reseat the memory in a new slot. Before powering on again check for visible damage.
Slightly edited, as Wannakanoby beat me to it.
after staying up till 5 am so itd be ready for me to play the sims the poor loves tearing his hair out but will try that now
any other suggestions are thankfully recieved!

  • Speed Problems with MSI KM4M-L SKT A

I have recently purchased an AMD Athlon XP 2600+ (333MHz FSB) Processor, and an MSI KM4M-L SKT A motherboard which states that it has an FSB of 333MHz. On the motherboard I set the jumpers for the CPU speed to 166MHz because I assume that because of DDR it makes it technically 333MHz?? However when I try to install an operating system I get random file errors, eg File NTLDLL.DLL not found, even though the file is there. If I change the CPU Speed to 100MHz or 133MHz then everything works fine. Any ideas on how I can get the computer to run at full speed without any errors??

Please give complete PC. specs. includding P.Su. brand and how many Amps. it gives to 3.3v. 5v. and 12v.

    MSI-KM4M-V Boot Problems

    Fredrik:
Thanks for backing me up while I was out of the forum.
Usually, when I clean my cpu, I use a Q-tip damped with Isopropyl alcohol and then remove the remaining grease on the processor die. For the heatsink, I use the same Q-tip or a piece of damped cotton with isopropyl alcohol also.
I like the idea of the nailpolish remover since it makes sense because it can remove even the toughest resin.
See you later, and I hope our new friend has sorted the problem.

  • MSI KM4M-V Boot Problems

I connect all my hardware to my board as a stripper system, and the following is connected:
    1x AMD Athlon 2600+ 333MHz CPU
    1x 512MB DDR333 Crucial RAM DIMM
    Using onboard VGA
Power switch and reset switch only connected
    The system has problems booting.
These are some of the problems we encountered:
    1. System turned off after about 20 seconds, even though it behaved normally before the power off
    2. System would not turn on the screen.
We changed the RAM to the other memory slot and there was still a problem, but this time we got artefacts on the screen. Then the pc appeared to hang in post.
I changed the ram back and the PC refused to turn on the built in GFX or the AGP card, even with the AGP card removed.
    Anyone got any ideas?

Here you can see the whole post that I've made  when I was having troubles installing XP on my KM4M-V, also check that my old PSU was only 16a in 12V rail: KM4M-V Can't install...

can anyone please explain to me why this board seems to work fine with win ME loaded but has this problem with XP.
I can't be shure, but I guess that XP try to load a lot of components in memory while installing, also this can make the installation crashes because of memory is not getting enough power... That's only my guess, and I know I can be totally wrong... Any other ideas guys?

PROBLEM: WHEN INSTALLING XP, I ALWAYS GET THIS ERROR; IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. I GET THAT ERROR BEFORE THE XP INSTALLATION COPIES THE FILES. WHEN I DISABLE, THE CPU INTERNAL CACHE FROM THE BIOS, IT WILL START COPYING FILES BUT IT COPIES FILES TOO LONG. HOWEVER, AFTER COPYING FILES EVEN FOR A LONG PERIOD, IT WILL RESTART AND I WILL ENABLE THE CPU INTERNAL CACHE. THE XP INSTALLATION WILL CONTINUE BUT WHEN THE XP INSTALLATION INSTALLED DEVICES, THE SAME ERROR COMES UP. TURN OFF MY PC FOR AN HOUR. TURN IT ON AGAIN, THE INSTALLATION WILL FINISH BUT WHEN I INSTALL SERVICE PACK 2 IT FREEZES AND NEVER BOOT ON XP AGAIN. WHEN I OPEN MY CPU, MEMORY AND HARD DISK ARE TOO HOT. DO YOU MY PC OVERHEATED? I ALREADY LOWERED MY MEMORY FREQUENCY TO 133. WHAT SHOULD I DO? HELP, ANYONE?

Sorry for the all caps post, i'm used to it. Anyway, as for my problem, I always get this error message: IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. The only thing that works was disabling the CPU Internal Cache from the BIOS but it resulted in slow installation. I only disable the cache when copying the setup files coz I can't get through that setup process if I won't disable it. After copying the setup files, it will freeze from the moment it resumes the setup. I need to turn off my pc for an hour for it to continue the setup. It'll finish the setup but it will freeze while installing Windows XP Service Pack 2. After it freezes, I restarted it and it never booted again. It will auto-restart from the moment it showed the Windows XP logo. What do you think?

  • Request for proper BIOS settings for MSI "KM4M-V" VIA KM400

    Hello,
I tried to search on this problem but with no success. I have a computer that I had to reset the bios and I'm trying to get the clock speed adjusted to the processor chip. Here is my setup:
    MB = MSI "KM4M-V" VIA KM400 (MS-7061)
    CPU = AMD ATHLON XP 3000 "Barton" 333 FSB  OPN - AXDA3000DKV4D
Here is my problem, when I boot up the cpu shows the clock speed of 1.733 GHZ with default BIOS settings.(it shows this speed in windows when booted up also) When I try to go into the BIOS and change any of the speed settings under Advance Chipset Features, the cpu will reboot and loose video until I reset the BIOS with the jumper.
I was wondering if someone had a setup like this and could give me info on what settings are the RIGHT ones to get the AMD XP 3000 up to speed?   ;-)
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

    Hello people
I purchased an  MSI K9VGM-V Skt AM2 motherboard and a AMD Athlon 64  3200 Socket AM2.I installed all the appropriate parts by following the manuals and by wearing anti-static wristband to avoid Electrostatic discharge. When everything were in place, i powered on the pc and booted without any problems. For the First 5 minutes or so,i was in BIOS monitoring the CPU temperature, it was between 30-35 C. After that i formated my Hard drive and i installed Windows XP Prof.  When i finished i switch off the pc. The next morning problems started, when i power on the pc doesnt boot, the screen is black, the hard drive doesnt sound to spin at all, and there is no BIOS Beep noise at all. The only thing that indicates that the PC is on is the CPU fan that works.
I tested PSU, Ram sticks, Graphics card, hard drives,in my other Desktop and all are in working conditions.

It is very hard to kill a mobo, more often you buy them dead. Tedious, I know, but perhaps you should redo the installation? Making sure there are no spacers left unused between the motherboard and case, that all power cables are fastened, and such.
The processor fan spinning is really a good sign, because that means power flows through the motherboard. Long line of thinking here, but it suggests the processor is alive too.
The price normally reflects the quality and power of a PSU. Top brands are perhaps Enermax, Seasonic, PCPower&Cooling, Antec, and maybe Silverstone (but I think the latter is over-priced).
the esiest way to *KILL* a motherboard is by installing cpu wrong, i killed a 754 board around 2 years ago

  • Pinnacle PCTV Stereo and MSI KM4M-V mb

I cannot run my Pinnacle PCTV Stereo card on my new MSI KM4M-V motherboard, regardless of the BIOS settings, IRQ assignments, operating systems (Win ME, 2k, XP) and of the inserting the PCTV card in any of the three PCI slots available.
However, after installation, the "PCTV Assistant" does not report any problems!
Nevertheless, only various stripes appear in the TV window, and no sound at all. Channel scan brings nothing. However, while scanning, on finding the not empty TV channel, the pattern in the TV window changes from more or less random set of white spots (like snow) towards some stripes.
The same PCTV Stereo card worked fine with my previous motherboards (ASUS CUPLE-VM, ASUS CUSL2, AsRock K7S41GX).
The PCTV card is the only PCI card installed. The hardware configuration is: Sempron 2400+, graphics and sound - integrated with the mb, DDR 512 MB in one module, HDD WD Caviar 80 GB 8MB cache.
Maybe somebody could help me resolving this problem? Many thanks in advance!
    Andrzej

    Hi,
so far I could not try another PSU.
In the meantime, I was informed that there can be the problem of the type of PCI interface. If the tv tuner was PCI 2.2 compliant, no problems should occur. Could anybody tell me more about these types of PCI interfaces? What I found elswhere in the net it was the division of TV tuners into 3 groups regarding the PCI interface: "PCI cards", "PCI 2.2" and "PCI 2.3". I presume that the my one belongs just to the first group (PCI cards), like the majority of the TV tuners on the market.
Can anybody tell me about the differences between these types of interface, and maybe you could help me overcome this conflict, IF IT IS REALLY A CONFLICT!
    Andrzej

  • Does PCI Express Video Card compatible on a MSI KM4M Motherboard

Does a PCI Express NVDIA Video Card (8500GT 512MB/128Bit/DDR2) compatible on a MSI KM4M Series Motherboard (System Model: KM400-8235)?
Is it possible to setup the PCI Express NVDIA Video Card on the MSI Motherboard PCI Bus Slot?
    Thanks for any response.

Maybe this is a dumb question..
There's no way a PCI-e card will work on that board. AGP yes, PCI yes, PCI-e no.

  • MSI KM4M CPU Question

    Hi,
Does anyone know what is the fastest cpu MSI KM4M (I think its KM4M-L) motherboard can handle.  In the manual its says "AMD Athlon XP Sempron 3000+ @ 166 FSB (for KM4M)"
I'm not sure whats "3000+" means.  Is it 3GH or something else.
    Thanks.

    KM4M-L CPU support list:
    http://eu.msi.com/index.php?func=prodcpusupport&maincat_no=1&prod_no=558#menu
The fastest CPU supported is the AMD Athlon XP3000+ Barton core 333FSB.

Its the 'performance rating' of the CPU, not its actual speed. Back in the day, AMD used this 'performance rating' to compare against Intel Pentium 4 CPUs, so the XP3000+, although having an actual clock speed of 2166mhz (2.2ghz), was equivalent in performance to a Pentium 4 3.0ghz. Sempron/Duron CPUs PR was compared against Intel Celeron.

  • Can a MSI KM4M-V take a sempron 3000 ?

    as subject

The MSI KM4M-V supports 333MHz FSB.. the FSB Semprons use.
If you upgrade to BIOS v1.2 found here: http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/bios/bos/spt_bos_detail.php?UID=610&kind=1 it will support the Sempron 3000+.

  • Will the MSI KM4M-V fit in a normal ATX case?

Hello all. Just wondering if I could get away with buying a normal size ATX case, and therefore add my own, decent, PSU. All the Micro ATX cases on  Ebuyer come with a crappy 300W PSU or similar.
This is the spec I'm thinking of getting together:
    Crucial 512MB ram PC3200 400FSB
    Maxtor 80GB
    AMD Athlon XP2800+
    500W ATX Ebuyer PSU
All my customer wants it for is to browse the internet and use MS Office. I know the spec is higher than her requirements but I'm hoping to build her something to last for at least 3 years. Will the MSI KM4M-V board bottleneck those components, and so will I be wasting my money?
    Thanks all , Mark.

If you mean what I think you mean - can I damage anything by using the wrong memory etc.? The answer is generally no. However, If you take care when purchasing these items you'll get no grief later.
Previous posters are correct about underpowered PSU's and incompatible memory.
Read through the "Sticky" threads using the link that Raven supplied, and you won't go far wrong.
