MSI KM8 neo V motherboard supports 500 GB SATA HDD ???

Hello all,
I have MSI KM8 neo V motherboard. I have recently purchased 500 GB SATA HDD to upgrade from old 80 GB SATA HDD.
My motherboard doesn't detect new 500 GB SATA HDD. . my mother board has any limitations on SATA HDD capacity?
Please let me know the limitations of  MSI KM8 neo V motherboard for SATA HDD limitations suchas 500 GB SATA HDD
Regards,
Rajender

You may want to update to the latest BIOS first.
Your drive is backwards compatible so it should work. Worst case, there may be a jumper on the drive to set it to 1.5gb/s.
Although a 500 has not been tested on this board, 250s have. http://www.msi.com/file/test_report/TR3_159.pdf  If a 250 works, no reason a 500 shouldn't work, depending if there is a jumper setting.
Seagate/Maxtor has added a user-accessible jumper-switch, known as the Force 150, to enable the drive to be switched between 1.5 Gbit/s and 3 Gbit/s operation. Western Digital uses a jumper setting called OPT1 Enabled to force 1.5 Gbit/s data transfer speed (OPT1 is enabled by putting the jumper on pins 5 & 6). Samsung drives can be switched to 1.5 Gbit/s mode using software that may be downloaded from the manufacturer's website. Upgrading a Samsung drive in this manner requires the temporary use of a SATA-2 (SATA 3.0 Gbit/s) controller while programming the drive . You may want to check with HDD manufacturer to see what they suggest in terms of running the drive on a SATA 1,5Gb (150) port.

nForce is not more stable then VIA, absolutely not.
When you prefer stability, go with VIA chip
when you want a good overclicker with some stability isues, go for the nForce.
My advice: see my signature and you know .....
What sort of stability issues are we talking about here?
    BSOD's?

its a CPU problem not a mobo. don't be disappointed from the board. if the CPU can work with DDR2 the board will have those DIMM slots.
i mean if you got board with DDR2 memory support and also have DDR2 memory sticks, you have to change CPU as well.

it should do as it supports upto 200GB IDE hard drives so i wouldn't think a 20GB one would be any problem (just one question here where on earth did you get a 20GB IDE hard drive as i haven't seen one of them since around 1998?)!

I can't even install Windows on mine :P
But seriously, the manual lists SLI, and it's printed on the board. I have ATi, but I think it supports SLI.
edit: there's also a sticker on the box that says "SLI ready." The original box art was probably an oversight.

  • MSI 649 NEO-V Motherboard not burning dvds in DMA modem

i have replaced every part but the motherboard and cpu - different burners..different ram - different hard drives - different cables and I still can't burn a dvd in DMA modem - it starts to do the lead in - then stops the light goes out on the burner.  i have tried with the Pioneer 110D and NEC 3500AG exact same problem on both.
The only thing left for me is for some reason the mainboard isn't handling DMA correctly with these burners.
i have reistalled windows.  I have updated the bios on the motherboard.  I have updated the firmware on the burners.  Still no luck.  So I am currently stuck at burning one dvd that takes 25 mintues to burn.
If there is any solution to this that would be great
I have also updated the SIS IDE driver.

I have the exact same problem...
Same mainboard, with an LG HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-H10A burner, WinXPSP2. I will try a different burner today, however I already suspect the outcome will be the same.
The only 'solutions' I can offer is to disable DMA mode on the burner and use PIO, which will result in an extremely slow burn of course. An alternative is to disable the buffer underrun protection in Nero - this works for me, albeit it does nothing to solve the real problem.
I have built hundreds of systems and I've only stuck this problem once before, about 2 years ago - oddly enough it was also an MSI mainboard...
I am desperate for a solution - aside from replacing the mainboard that is. We cannot be alone with this problem, there seems to be some kind of inherant problem with these boards under certain conditions.
Tried all bios updates on all hardware, various versions of various burning apps... it makes no difference. The common denominator is the damned mainboard. The burner has been tested and confirmed to be 100% fine.
    Does anyone have any ideas?
I can post a log from Nero is anyone feels this will help.
    Many thanks in advance...

  • MSI K8N Neo 2 - motherboard is "down".

I had many problems at start (e.g. Picture problems in BIOS, strange voltage etc.) but later it was ok. There was faild-safe settings in BIOS. One evening i turned computer down and I noticed that power led is strange, regular flashing. Next day i couldn't tunr it on again. All Fans are down, there is no sign of life exept for this power led. Other components are ok, I tested them in other machines, everything works correct. What happened ? I tried to reset CMOS, use other memories, no effect. Can i try something else before RMA ?

Power LED flashing is a typical indication that your PSU is in Overload. This can be from overloading it with goodies or even a power surge. Shut down the PSU on the back panel and unplug it for a few minutes. If you get it powered back up afterwards then it may have just been a surge. However if it does not repower or it does this again in the future then replace that PSU with a better one.

  • MSI K8T Neo-V Not Seeing SATA HD

i just completed building a new system:
    MSI K8T Neo-V motherboard
    amd 3200
    160 SATA HD
im trying to setup to use just the one hard drive but bios will not recognize it. it does see the dvdrw but not the hard drive. i made sure the sata cable and power were plugged in. i even tried installing xp then f6 to load the raid driver but still no luck. please any help would be greatly appreciated.

hey thanks for your reply. yes i made sure everything was enabled and i just fixed my own problem. just for the heck on it i called msi tech support [talked to a real smart fella] and he told me that sometimes you need to jumper the drive when your using a single hard drive. i played with it a few minutes and it worked. its installing xp right now. i guess you learn something new everyday.
