MSI KT3 Ultra Reviews (NOT ARU)

I can't find any MSI KT3 Ultra Reviews on the web
Does anyone know where I can find MSI KT3 Ultra Reviews?
(I don't want the MSI KT3 Ultra ARU reviews)

bas is correct.  an ARU and non ARu are going to function the same and perfrom pretty much the same
Im just posting in addition to what Bas said since I have both the KT3 Ultra and KT3 Ultra ARU and I can tell you from personal experience they perform identically
=======================================
The only rant I have about the ARU is the ARU has that ugly uneeded and crappy fan on the northbrdige....LOL I really like the non ARU without the fan better.  The orange heatsink on the nonARU is more than enough to cool the NB even when overclocking.  The KT333CE chip is well designed and doesnt get that hot by its very nature.  So that darn cheapy fan is just for looks and serves no functional purpose on this chipset.
And best of all with the non ARU - the orange heatsink makes no noise and has no moving parts to break down
( :D ok done with my rant.  Seems everyday I have to tell how I hate that silly silver fan  lol :D )

  • MSI KT3 Ultra-ARU video lock-ups

    Hello,
I have a 3 month old MSI KT3 Ultra-ARU.  I am running Windows XP Professional and I am having a periodic lock-up where the screen will show blinking colored blocks and the system will freeze.  Sometimes just hitting reset will cure the problem.  Other times, hitting reset will create two vertical stripes of colored blocks scrolling down the screen.  I have used the board on two entirely separate systems (One with AMD Athlon 2000+, Gainward GeForce 4200, 512 MB Samsung 2700 DDR, Western Digital Expert HD (tried both IDE #1 and RAID controller) (Other System, Athlon 1800+, a different Gainward Geforce 4200, 256 Crucial 2700 DDR, an older Maxtor hard drive).  In either system, every once in a while, the system will freeze as described above (it has happened in Netscape 7.0, Microsoft Word 2000, America's Army game).
I have played around with the bios settings, reformatted hard drives, tried various revisions of the nvidia display drivers, swapped out video cards, etc.  Any ideas?  Do I have a bad board?  Do I need to flash the BIOS?  If the board is bad, what do I need to do to return it?
    Thanks,
    Matt Gumaer

The second system has a 330 watt enermax power supply.  With the new system I put together, I put virtually the same board (MSI KT3 Ultra 2 with bluetooth and RAID), everything is the same as my first system (except the KT3 Ultra-ARU) and the stability is fine.  So, I'm reasonably confident its not the power supply.

    Hi,
I have a KT3 Ultra ARU too, and I understand that if you use the onboard Bluetooth connection you must not use the USB connection under the blue sticker at the same time.
I think it's because the onboard Bluetooth connection and the USB connection under the sticker use the same adress (IRQ). So as long as you have no Bluetooth, like me, you can use the 4 USB connections. If you use Bluetooth connection on board, do not use the USB connection under the sticker (the left one seen from backside of your PC).
If you use an external Bluetooth it's not a problem with your 4 USB connections.

  • Broken component on MSI KT3 Ultra-ARU mainboard.

    Hi Everyone,
A friend of mine has an MSI mainboard which has a broken component due to his screwdriver slipping off the CPU clamp while installing a new CPU.
The mainboard is an MSI KT3 Ultra-ARU (MS-6380E) ATX Revision 1.0
The broken component is next to the CPU socket (between the CPU socket and the chipset fan) and is labelled  L14 on the mainboard.
I believe it is a Ferrite bead inductor/choke.
We have been unable to find the broken part and would like to replace it.  I can fit a new component if I can find out the value of the broken inductor/choke in millihenries or microhenries or picohenries.
Would someone with an - MSI KT3 Ultra-ARU (MS-6380E) ATX Revision 1.0 - mainboard, please take a look at the component labelled  L14 and let me know what the numbers on that particular component are?
You will probably need a magnifying glass to do this, unless your eyes are very good!
If you know the value of this component, please help!
I would welcome any information on this, it's a shame to scrap a mainboard because of a component costing only a few cents/pence.
Thanks in advance to anyone who helps on this, I appreciate you taking time and trouble to help.
    Dave - needtoknow.

    Hi Bas,
I got the part I needed but not from MSI, they would not sell me one, so I went to a USA company called Mouser Electronics.
    http://www.mouser.com/
The part cost me only 34 cents US, shipping was $6.00!  So for about £4.00 UK I can fix the board.  Better than £20.00 by far.
You can order even very small parts from mouser as a one off, something you can't do with most UK companies. Their range of stock is *huge*.
Thank you very much for getting the info about the part from MSI for me. I could not have repaired it if you had not helped me with that, so I owe you.
    Dave, needtoknow.

  • Overclocking the MSI KT3 Ultra ARU

    Hey,
I read some reviews with the kt3 Ultra ARU and i have read that people have been getting the FSB up to around 167? Yet, i fail to get it past 151?  Any suggestions?

    768 mb pc2100
    TDK 40x12x48
    Lite ON DVD
    ATI Radeon 8500 (GIGABYTE)

you would have more chance of it booting at 166
than 151 as the divider kicks in at 152
at 166 fsb your video and pci slots are at the correct speed
it can be done if you have been lucky with the cpu you gotlink

  • MSI KT3 Ultra ARU 5.7 BIOS and SoudBlaster Cards - Audigy

I have flashed my BIOS to 5.7 Version and my sound card start to make a lot of noise (crackling) when play AC3 or DVD. If you dont want to use the new AMD CPU 333 FSB you dont need to flash the BIOS - I have Flashed to 5.6 again but, if you want to use a 333 FSB CPU you can flash the BIOS to version 5.7 and if have sound problems use the PCI latency patch for VIA chipsets.
VIA chipset MotherBoard owners who have through all of the above and still have sound problems with their Soundblaster cards, might want to look into the PCI latency patch for VIA chipsets - get it here:
    http://www.georgebreese.com/net/software/
(scroll down the page there just a little to get to it).
There's also a similar page about resolving sound problems on Via chipset based computers here:

Since my chip is an unlocked, I cannot easily run it at the default, but I can underclock it. At 100x6.0=600mhz, USB does not work, as well as 100x12.5. Same with 133x6.0 and 133x12.5. It appears to make no difference underclocking or overclocking.
I downloaded the right BIOS listed on MSI's KT3 Ultra-ARU page. I don't think the BIOSes are different anyway, since the same files, changelog, and etc are also listed for the Ultra-2 board.
A thing to note, that this is the onboard VIA-controller USB ports doing this. My Ultra-ARU's NEC-controller USB 2.0 ports work fine in both Win2k and Linux if I hook my mouse and keyboard up in those. This is not an ideal solution for me though.

  • MSI KT3 Ultra ARU & GeForce 3 TI200

    A little prob:
When I run my GF3 in AGP mode, all my games hang after playing 1 min. Then when I change the "Via Tech CPU to AGP-controller" to "PCI standard PCI to PCI brigde" thereby running my GF3 in PCI-mode everything runs fine. Then I went into "dxdiag" and saw that "Acceleration of AGP-struktur" was not availble. So I was thinking, am I looseing enything by running the GF3 in PCI-mode and is it the MSI or the GF3 that is causeing this problem.
I have tried all the VIA 4in1 drivers and they did not help.
    My specs:
    MSI KT3 Ultra ARU
    Athlon XP 1900+
    Palite Daytona Geforce 3 TI200
    Windows XP pro

i have the kt3 ultra with a geforce 3 ti200 and it runs flawless.. i use the det 30.30 drivers. one thing i noticed with geforce 3 cards is if i have my agp apperature set to anything but 128 games will freeze and get all kinds off lock ups. if i were you i would look around this forum for the bios setup guide for the kt3 ultra! and set your bios according to that guide
if you cant find it here goto http://www.amdmb.com and go to the msi forum there and the set up guide is there
    hopefully that helps!!!!

  • MSI KT3 Ultra ARU Mem timing problems?

As experienced by myself as well as Maximum PC Magazine during testing. Using high quality memory such as Samsung PC2700 DDR on the MSI KT3 Ultra ARU, if you set the cas latency timings to the most agressive settings, next time you try to boot into Windows, your OS crashes and the registry gets corrupted. Also the board actually interprets CAS 2.5 memory as CAS 2. I am sure a BIOS update will fix this problem, however who else has had this problems?

  • MSI KT3 Ultra-ARU error

Hi everyone, my motherbord is giving me the 8 or 9 beep code
(8 = Display memory Read/Write test failure, 9 = ROM BIOS checksum failure) guess I need a new motherbord?
    I have a MSI KT3 Ultra-ARU and it has Promise 20276 (raid 0 and 1)
The beeping started after I did a clean install of winxp then a blue screen of death pop-up, when it boot up there was a blank screen then starts to beep
I Strip the system down to RAM, processor and video card only and even change the agp video card to a pci
and clear the bios by change the jumper and taking out the battery
any idea what it could be?

Neither processor or memory is supported. The processor is 166x2 (333) MHz. http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_cpu_support_detail.php?UID=11&kind=1

in msi website the 333 fsb cpus are not supported too in kt3 ultra-ultra aru but they still work... so it make sense to discuss  if applebred work or not in those mobos.

  • MSI - KT3 Ultra-ARU Raid + XP

    Hi,
I have just built a new system using the MSI - KT3 Ultra-ARU motherboard and am having issues instaling Windows XP professional.
The system has been set with 2 Maxtor HD on Raid 0 Stipping.
On installing Windows XP and Raid Driver 2.0 that comes with the board, XP continues to load the files needed for setup, while in this process it will have a read/copy error. As much as you retry it will not read. This happens on different files each time I try to install and is not a bad CD.
    Any suggestions ?

You can have a look at my hardware below...

I've had similar problems where my system becomes very unstable at higher bus speeds. Installing Windows XP simply didn't work very good. However, I have ordered a new PSU today as a solution to this problem. Basically, CPUs and video cards are much more demanding and the more devices you have in your computer the more power you're going to need. I recommend purchasing the Enermax EG465P-VE (FCA) 450W ATX PS. It has a higher amperage rating and will most likely solve your problem.
Check your PSU and your bus speed settings...

  • MSI KT3 Ultra-ARU power supply problem

    Hello !
I am a lucky owner of MSI KT3 Ultra-ARU motherboard but have one problem. My power supply Fortron (FSP Group) 300-GT 300W seems to have some kind of incompatibility with this motherboard. In my case, the computer can't be shutted down by software. With BIOS version 2.5 it was impossible to shut it down with button too. With 2.6 it is possible to turn the computer off by button but software shutdown still don't work. PSU is working on ALL other boards I have tested so far normally. Somewhere in discussions (not in this forums) I discovered that also some kind of weird sounds occurs with Fortron supply on this board and that it is incompatible. Have anyone some clues to solve this PSU problem ? I am not able momentally to buy some other kind of PSU because Fortron is the only brand from higher category to obtain, so I would be like to solve this.....
    Thanks for any info !

PSU is powering Athlon XP 1700+ processor, the other big power consumer is GeForce4 Ti 4200 GPU. I am not able read currents for specific voltage outputs, so I am not able to measure whole power consumption. Computer is working normally, it is NOT overclocked (but it is stable overclocked too) and the only problem is PSU shutdown by software (win & linux, both of them has this problem). From BIOS v2.6 it is possible to shutdown the computer by power button. If it is tried by software, computer resets itself and three beeps occurs.

  • MSI KT3 Ultra ARU Startup Trouble

I am running an MSI KT3 Ultra ARU Mainboard with an amd athlon xp 1500+ processor, a GeForce4 Ti4200 made by Gainward (64mb), two AOC 120MM case fans, one 80mm case fan, a thermaltake volcano 7 speed variable Heatsink, two crucial 512MB pc2100 DDR Ram Chips a sony 16x12x40x cdrw and an LG 16x dvd rom, as well as a 20gig tape drive by HP and floppy drive.  The hard drive is a maxtor diamondmax 60GB.  all this powerd by an Antec 350W PSU.
Specs over with, heres the problem
I can only boot from floppy disk.  Booting from the hard disk gives me an "Error Loading Operating System" error, I have tried two other drives and both of these drives have OS's on them, winnt4 and winxp respectively.  The Maxtor drive is clean but not new, I am formatting it as we speak to see if that works.  I have tried to boot from a bootable win2k cd on two different CDRW drives as well as an old CD Rom drive, and a DVD rom drive.  I always get this error "Searching for Boot Record from CD.....None Found" proceeded by the "Error Loading Operating System" error.  I am running everything off the three IDE plugs, with round IDE cable(I have tried flat ones, no luck with those either)  I am not attempting to run this in a RAID array at all.
Anyone got any ideas as to why this problem would be occuring????

    hi nailz,
Hope this may solve your problem. In the BIOS, Advanced BIOS Features, set "Boot Sequency" 1st, 2nd, 3rd boot devices to the SAME one, ie Floppy for all, or 1st Master HDD for all. Then reboot. Disable "Try boot device' first. Repeat this until you get the board to boot the device.
    If can't,
    Clear the CMOS and retry.
    If can't,
(In the BIOS) select all IDE devices and set to NONE. Set "Clear NVRAM" in PCI Configuration. Save and exit the BIOS, then re-entering BIOS in the next boot, enable all IDE devices. Save and exit, re-enter BIOS once more, check the "Boot Sequence".
Yup... try changing around with IDE settings in the BIOS. Good luck.

  • MSI KT3 Ultra ARU and S2K Bus Disconnect

    Hello
I have a MSI KT3 Ultra ARU and a AMD Athlon XP 2600+ (266 FSB version). I wonder if I have support for termal diode in both CPU and mainboard.
Is S2K Bus Disconnect and CPU HALT Command detection the same thing?

    Quote
KT3 ultra's I believe were the first boards capable of reading thermal diode inside of AMD XP (Palamino/T-bred/barton, etc) and higher cores.
Not the first, but they were up there as being among the first.  A few KT266 boards implemented the circuitry to read thermal diode.  Second or third revision boards, or new models, based on KT266A and even KM266 began implementing the thermal diode circuitry.
KT3 Ultra has thermal diode read circuit:

  • PSU Query for MSI KT3 Ultra-ARU running 3000xp

    Hi There,
Before buying a new Motherboard I was just wondering if the problems I'm getting are related to the PSU which is about 5 years old. I've just upgraded my processor to a Athlon 3000 XP 333 FSB which goes into the MSI KT3 Ultra-ARU (MS-6380E v1.X) motherbaord, which I've upgraded the Bios to version 5.7, I've also  upgraded my graphics card to the Leadtek Geforce FX5900XT which also plugs into the PSU. When setting my fsb to 166 my PC either won't boot or when I try to run say 3DMark it just freezes, but when I set my FSB to 133 it works fine. I was wondering if it is trying to draw too much power from the CPU.
I don't really know how to write the PSU details down correctly so I've just copied everything from the unit.
