MSI KT3 Ultra2-CLS and 166Mhz FSB
I own a KT3 Ultra2-CL and a Athlon 1400C.
At the moment it runs 11,5x133 = 1533Mhz. Stable.
It also runs 9x166 = 1500. Stable, but my PCI runs 41Mhz.
So please implement the correct divider in very near future bios update.
It should not be true that customers, who invest less money in a new mainboard than others, can´t use all of the functions the chipset provides. I WANT TO RUN 166Mhz FSB WITH 33Mhz PCI
All of your "expensive" boards provide this divider.
IS THIS MAREKTING 2003???

MSI KT3 ULTRA2-C and AGP compatibility
Hi, I'm just about to buy a new motherboard these days, MSI KT3 ULTRA2-C, with an XP 2000/2000+ and memory, but not a new video card, since i can't afford it right now. I only have an AGP Creative 3D Blaster Banshee 16 MB, but it is a 3.3v agp card (AGP 1.0). I was wondering if this motherboard can support it, i checked in a lot of places, including the manual and it doesn't say anything about the voltage it can take, neither if the AGP slot is universal or not (i.e. if it can support both 1.5/3.3v or only 1.5v). The manual for the KT3V specifically says '4x 1.5v only', but this one just says 'AGP 2.0 1x/2x/4x'. I really need to know this since otherwise i'd have to wait two months to afford another video card. I also checked another post here with an answer to a page with AGP explanation, but it didn't help. Thanks you very much, really

Kt3 ultra2-r and xp2600 problem
I have a msi kt3 ultra2-aru, and I have an amd xp2600.
I have updated my bios to the A6380VMS.560 version because this one should recognize my xp2600+
When I look at the msi site I see that I should set my fsb to 133 (c-type cpu) and my multiplier to 16.
cpu support list for the main board
but in my bios I can't get any higher than 15 ?(
how is this possible?
And more important, how do I solve this?leave the multiplier at what ever bios says it is
try booting 133 first

My MSI KT3-ULTRA2 doesn't work with my CPU cooler!!
I've got an MSI KT3-ULTRA2 mainbord, and I have a NEOLEC VENEZIA TB Cooler. But when I attach my NEOLEC cooler and I start the machine, the machine shuts down within a couple of seconds, and I get nothing to see on my screen. The weird thing is when I turn the PC on, the cooler starts rotating so it can't be broke, but then the pc shuts down i a couple of secs. So pleezze anybody help me!!
The weird thing is that I also have a coolermaster cooler, and that one works fine. But the problem is that this coolermaster is designed for AMD XP 1900+, and I ahve an AMD XP 2200+ that's why I bought the Neolec Venezia TB cooler.

skeletonone easy thing to watch for... see if the heatsink or fan is in contact with any part of the motherboard, like... if it is too big and touches something that normally wouldn't be in contact with a fan or heatsink. If so, it could be shorting it.

I'm wondering if my MSI KT3 Ultra2 with a S-ATA controller card will support S-ATA?
If so, will S-ATA2 work?yes, if you buy a SATA2 add-in controller card, then you can use it with SATA2 drives

I wonder if I could please get some ideas as regard this rather odd problem which I am encountering. This problem occurs when while the pc is 'shut down' if I disconnect the power supply ie switch off power by way of the switch on the psu. When I switch power back on again and boot, the pc begins its booting sequence it begins to launch windows and then it stops and a little red square (with a bit of green) appears in the top left hand corner of the screen. Now this problem does not occur if I shut down the pc normally (but don't cut off power supply). I have several partitions on my HDD and they are all affect at the same time. The end result is that I boot into safe mode I look at the refresh rate which is set to 'unknown' change it to 'adapter default' then reboot but upon reboot I get windows displaying screen at 640x480 with standard vga colours. I check in device manager under 'display adapters' what driver it's showing and it's the driver which I last loaded ie the correct one. I cannot change screen resolution , bit colour and the refresh rate only allows for 2 options, either 'optimal' or 'adapter default'. In order to get back to where I was, I have to remove and re-install my VGA driver and then everyting is back to normal (until I switch off power again at psu then back to square one). I have spoken to the manufacturers of the graphics card and they say that if the card works ok when I shut down pc normally and restart then cannot be the card. I described my problem in greater detail to MSI support and they said either VGA or O/S.
In essence I wanted to isolate the problem to, is it 'hardware or 'software'.
I would be grateful if anyone can shed some light.

Seagate 60Gb 7200rpm I am running the HDDs as independant drives on the
Seagate 40Gb 7200rpm Raid controller ie one on IDE3 & one on IDE4Odd as it might seem I have to follow the proceedure listed below if I want to switch off power altogether to work on my pc.
1. Cold boot system with 166FSB and let O/S install
2. Reboot enter Bios and reduce FSB to 133 make sure to set memory speed as HCLK and let O/S load
3. Shut down and switch off power supply
4. Reconnect power and boot system. Enter bios set FSB to 166 (the mem speed will be HCLK)
5. System continues to boot and loads O/S
From that point on, cold boots (without cutting power supply) are not problematic as once the 166FSB is 'registered' everything works ok (at every cold boot). So anytime I wanna work on my pc I guess I have to do the above 5 steps. They seem to work but need to try it out a few more times before I am confident that this process will always work.
I am sure you agree that this is one strange mother of a problem.
I suppose the only 2 things left are a total O/S reload or trying another 333 cpu because I have tried everything else. I guess I will have to live with it.
I have also cut some additional front vents so that front fan draws more air in and it appears to have dropped my idle Temp to 40.5C on CPU (running at clock 2083Mhz).
As as said earlier in my post my system ran perfectly with XP2000+ and 512Mb PC2100. I merely upgraded the CPU to XP2600 and mem to PC2700 and it has thrown up this very odd problem. And to boot (if you will pardon the expression) when I first installed new CPU and memory it booted first time at 166FSB. osnavi, in case you upgrade your CPU to a XP2600 and you get this weird problem at least you can come back to to this thread and find this workaround.
I wonder if anyone can fathom out why this is happening.......If not as I said I can live with it.
wonkanoby, I will try the link to the memtest. That is the only thing I have not tested so will give that a try.

!! Help !! MSI KT3 Ultra2 (MS-6380E) No BIOS Prompt!!
Hi Guys, this may be really elementary to you folks, but I want to change the boot order in bios, so that my Acronis True Image boot disc will be recognized, but when I start my machine, there is NO message about pressing ANYTHING to enter into bios. I've tried delete and esc anyway, to no avail, and I'm about to restart and try F2, but the screens flash past pretty quick, but not too quickly to see that there is NO prompt to enter BIOS at all..... is that expected, problematic??
Can I download a driver or something that will make the "press [ ] to enter setup" or "press [ ] to enter BIOS" prompt appear?
Failing that, is there anyway to force the system into BIOS without a prompt??
My motherboard is MSI KT3 Ultra2 (MS-6380E) and the chipset is VIA VT8367 Apollo KT333, if that helps. I believe that should be all you need to help me out, but tell me if you need anything else, since I have Everest and can probably tell you anything. Are you using a PS/2 or USB keyboard? If USB try a PS/2 KB. Have you tried rapidly pressing 'Delete' right after power on? By that I mean don't immediately hold it down but press & release multiple times.
Good tip about the ps/2 keyboard, not that I've tried it yet, but I will tomorrow after I get my hands on one, and I'll let you know. Thanks for the tip..... but I wonder, shouldn't it at least TELL me that there exists an option to go into BIOS? Even if it doesn't there must be some way in I guess, so I'll try this tomorrow. Thanks again..... -
MSI KT3 Ultra ARU and S2K Bus Disconnect
Hello
I have a MSI KT3 Ultra ARU and a AMD Athlon XP 2600+ (266 FSB version). I wonder if I have support for termal diode in both CPU and mainboard.
Is S2K Bus Disconnect and CPU HALT Command detection the same thing?Quote
KT3 ultra's I believe were the first boards capable of reading thermal diode inside of AMD XP (Palamino/T-bred/barton, etc) and higher cores.
Not the first, but they were up there as being among the first. A few KT266 boards implemented the circuitry to read thermal diode. Second or third revision boards, or new models, based on KT266A and even KM266 began implementing the thermal diode circuitry.
KT3 Ultra has thermal diode read circuit:

Geachte heer, mevrouw,
RamonHi,
Sorry I don't understand.... :( What language is that?
Let me guess, are you asking for different versions of motherboard model for KT3 Ultra 2 ? Ultra2-BR comes with Bluetooth transceiver and key, while Ultra2-R doesn't have Bluetooth bundled and Ultra2 doesn't have RAID either....
:D :D :D I feel like shooting in the dark.... :D :D :D -
Hi,
I just bought MSI KT3 ULTRA2 -Sound Motherboard
and for the RAM, I want to buy:
TOSHIBA 1.0GB ECC Registered DDR SDRAM DIMM (Toshiba model: THMD1GE0SB80 (PC1600) 128Mx72)
(for detail of the RAM, please read at: http://www.toshiba.com/taec/components/Datasheet/THMD1GE0SBxx-010702.pdf )
Do you guys know if that RAM is supported by MSI KT3 ULTRA2?
Thanks a lotAnd beside, I'm building that computer with:
Mother Board : MSI KT3 Ultra2
Processor: AMD Athlon 1800+ XP
HDD : Western Union wb1000 100 gigs 7200
RAM: Toshiba 1 gigs pc 1600 ECC registered (still in doubt if I can use that)
Video Card: any suggestion? I'm thinking ATI radeon 9000 128 megs DDR, it's not that great, but I dont need a really good video card, I work most of the time
CASE: any suggestion?
Cooler: suggestion?
CD-R: 48x16x48 Asus

MSI KT3 Ultra2 uses VT8235 with KT333
MSI KT3 Ultra2 uses VT8235 with KT333. Can this be possible and what North/South Bridge Link is used?
VIA site illustrated VT8233(A) with KT333 and VT8235 with olny P4X400. ?(The standard KT333 southbridge on MSI's KT333 boards is a VT8233A, which already supports ATA-133. USB 2.0 in the southbridge is the real difference. Hope it works as well as the NEC chip, which is rock solid with my USB stuff. Love it.

How can I flash the bios of a MSI kt3 ultra2 without a floppy drive?
How can I flash the bios of a MSI kt3 ultra2 without a floppy drive?
I used the msi live update software to download the bios update programe...when I run it gives 2 options dos and windows
but the windows option is greyed out and the dos option requires a floppy drive (mine does not work)..what can I do?I can tell you what you need to do but unfortunately - not how to do all of it.
You will need to make a bootable CD with the neccessary files on it .- Somewhere on the www you should be able to find the instructions. I have flashed from a CD with no problems on a K7S5A board . The CD image was available as a complete download and just needed burning to the CD so - apart from the obvious ( BIOS file , BIOS installer ,command.com,msdos .sys, io.sys)I don't know what else might be needed on the CD- unfortunately the disk I made is long gone.
I'm sure a search will find what you need to know.
Once you have the disk -just insert in CD Drive - restart and follow the instructions.
