MSI KT3V low maximum core voltage

Hey guys
I'm very angry, because my kt3v have max. core voltage at 1,7V.Where i can find unofficial or beta bios for higer voltages? 1,7V is too low for good overclocking. I use at xp 1700+ (t-bred) and i have stable only 171 x 11.5.I heard that this cpu can run at higer speeds than 1974 mhz.
Where i can find any solution for this voltage?

I had the same problem.  Not enough voltage to get my 1700+ past 1907 without stability issues.  I used a defogger kit and closed all the L11 bridges on the processor which basically set the default voltage for the CPU at 1.85.  Now when I go in to BIOS, the voltage is already set to 1.85, which I think is the max on most newer MSI boards.  I never found a beta BIOS anywhere that got around that +/- .1 volt thing.  There are also some guides out there about modifying the processor socket with small wires to jumper different pins together to alter the Vcore, but I didn't want to risk putting the wires in the wrong holes...heh.  I only had to close 2 L11 bridges on my processor to get the default Vcore to 1.85 and they weren't that close together so it only took about 5 minutes to do it and it works like a champ.  Good luck!

Hello, I bought the gtx 760 hawk and i tried to overclock it, but it's overclocking potential is very low. Furthermore if I change core voltage +12mV in afterburner nothing changes. Voltage is still stuck at 1.200. There's absolutely no difference. I use ver. 3.0.0 beta 14 of afterburner. Please help.

That is what the card is guaranteed to prvide you with.
Additionally, MSI provides voltage and clock adjustments to allow users to potentially OC it even more (no guarantee). Each individual sample will yield different results. We have users that had to RMA cards because they were unstable even at the guaranteed OC'ed speeds.

I see in some reviews that they reach the power limit at the level of 185%

  • Msi gaming 7 cpu core voltage diffrences

Hello guys I'm trying to OC my 4770k.For the beginning I made cpu ratio 4.2 with 1.255 core voltage. The thing is my aida64 cpuID and cpu-z shows 1.272 which is quite high from what I have set.Not even lower(vdrops etc.) so which one I should take care.System seems to run stable.Tested it with aida system stablity check for 20-25 min.Temp were 82(my room is hot)I use coolermaster hyper 212 evo.
Also is there also tweaks should I consider for OC'ing?

CPU V. can reach up to 1.400v's before it becomes a genuine concern. You will most likely exceed the recommended maximum CPU temperature way before reaching that voltage. It makes no sense to fix and run full throttle all the time at idle and low use for an everyday type machine. Leave the RAM at default (XMP disabled) until the CPU OC is confirmed stable, then work on the RAM speed settings.
Need a screen shot of the sub section 'CPU Features'.
Actually, leave everything on auto/default/stock, use M-Flash, BIOS + ME option and update to the V1.4 BIOS. After the flash re-install the newest ME driver from an MSI Website of your choice, Global, Europe, or USA. Will repeat, I bought a Radio Shack el-cheapo DMM for under 20 bucks and it works great and extremely accurate. DMM is the only way to verify if the readings you see are correct.
Nice thing about Z97 (and Z87) is you can set the CPU Ratio out of auto and not lose the power saving features. EIST and C1E can be enabled to throttle down for idle and low use. Another OC method is the Turbo Method with Turbo and Enhanced Turbo enabled leaving the CPU Ratio on auto and simply setting the 4 Core Ratios in CPU Features.

  • Msi 670 pe/oc and afterburner core voltage questions..

So recently I've been attempting to push my card further. From what I'm hearing these cards are locked with voltage. Max are anywhere from 1.175 - 1.215. I don't remember flashing my bios. So I tried pushing my card to 1202 which is the max I can get without adjusting msi voltage. Also I use heaven to test stability. I limit my frames to 63 since that is what I play bf3 at and it's my most demanding game. With 1202 clock even up to 1228 I can complete one run without crashing and stock voltage.
So I said what the hell I'll increase powerlimit to 114% and increase core voltage to +30( I don't even know how much this adds because there isn't a way to monitor... If anyone has an idea I'm all ears). What do you know to my surprise I was able to complete one benchmark run in heaven at 1254 without crashing. I tried 1254 without adjusting voltage and it crashed and I had to restart. Added +30 and it didn't crash. Also aux voltage was +30 maxed and still crashed without adding core voltage. So are these voltages really locked like Nvidia wanted? Or is there a problem with heaven benchmark.
Also my setting are 4xaa( I use 2x in bf3 with low post processing) !680x1050( native) resolution, tessellation is normal, af x 16. I've also heard about flashing with unlocked bios but as of now I don't want to try that.
My current gpu bios is 80.04.31.00.46(P2004-0005). Anyone know the values for this bios or where I can look it up? I'm also on the beta 310.71 drivers since the whql 310.71 drivers for some reason limited my oc.
Thanks for anyone who can help answer these questions.

A locked card will always max out at 1.175v no matter what is set. Using Afterbuner 2.2.4 possibly also later (2.2.5 and 2.3.0 are said to be not locked but I doubt that) will also max out at 1.175v no matter the vbios. Since the 670PE does not allow to monitor voltage with software it is hard to tell if overvoltage past 1.175v works or not. Could be progress is caused due to increasing aux voltage while gpu stays at 1.175v max. An unlocked card would do 1.2125v max.
It would require an unlocked mod bios for the unlocked overvoltage. There is a thread on overclock.net about unlocked GTX6xx vbios versions. There you could get an unlocked bios for GTX670 PE: http://www.overclock.net/t/1289489/gtx-680-670-unlocked-voltage-bios/510#post_17888629
So far nobody in the forum has tested that and using would be at your very own risk (as always when using mod bios).

  • MSI Afterburner - 2.2.0 Beta 3 Core Voltage 0+ (Question)

    Sup guys,
I installed the MSI Afterburner - 2.2.0 Beta 3, i read the manual and some sites etc. one thing i do not understand and that is how this version's Core Voltage works. As i've seen on youtube and various forums that the Core Voltage is displayed as the volts are set to exp: 0.0950V, but mine is displayed as a "+0". It never displays the Volts at which you are currently at, like the Core Clock or Memory clock etc. Any ideas?

I was wondering what that switch was for
So i switched to "Performance Mode" and kind of almost freaked out when i booted back up, because my pc took a while to start up "longer than normal", when it entered Windows it changed to 800x600 Res and said my Hardware was not supported, but a min or 2 after that it said "New Device Installed and ready for use" and asked to restart, so i restarted and....... kapish
    Seems we have a winner:
It does run a bit hotter than when on silent mode, but will sort that out.
    Thanks for the effort.
Ps. I Assume that is my actual "Volt" measurement

  • MSI Afterburner Core Voltage = huh?

So I just installed my GTX 580 Lightning and LOVE IT.  Afterburner is also very nice.
What I can't figure out is the core voltage is measured like +1, +10, +100 etc but that really doesn't help me seeing what is safe for my card and where I should even start increasing it.  I am used to  0.9 or 1.2v measurements.
    Help!

Quote from: Henry on 27-September-11, 06:34:22
The only reasons you would need to increase the voltage would be: 1 - if you are going to OC more than what it came with and it would need higher voltage for it to run stable. 2 - if you are experiencing problems that would require a higher voltage for it to run stable. If all is OK as is then leave it alone.
    Hey Henry,
Sorry I didn't specify.  I came from overclocking ASUS GTX 570 and increasing the voltage quite a bit.  But I was using ASUS SmartDoctor that showed the actual voltage.
Since MSI Afterburner only has a +1 through plus +200 on the core voltage modifier, I didn't quite understand what that was.
I was just wondering what the average GTX 580 Lightning overclocker was using for their voltage settings on a high OC.  I wanted to see how far I could push mine
I got my GTX 570 to 930 core and 4500 memory which was insane....

  • Core voltage stability on 865PE Neo2 PFS

I've just installed one of the new P-series NEO-2 MOBO's. Nice piece of work, although it seems there is still some work left to be done. Definite problems (although not serious) in Core center (althoug other posts indicate this may be indiginous to core center itself..)
More serious though is a reading of the processor core voltage.
I'm using a Celery 2.6, OC'd to 3.25G, FSB 125. Had to raise core voltage to 1.6V to get there, lower voltage led to crashes as low as FSB 104...
Recently, I looked at a scan of the core voltage (provided by Speedfan):
The problem lies in the fact that during disk access and/or high processor load, the core voltage drops as much as 90 mV, bringing it back to its default setting (spikes in graph, longer drop was writing DVD, CPU benchmark has similar result).
If it does this at 1.5V, I can understand the crashes.
I get the impression this board could do MUCH better with more stable voltage regulation.
Anyone seeing similar behaviour in other Neo2-boards? Am I missing a setting?(core-cell may be intervening) It's hard to imagine the PSU can't hack it.. 12V level is rock solid.
    System: MSI 865PE Neo2 PFS, Celeron 2.6G @ 3.25G (125 FSB)
                 1x corsair 3200 512MB @ 333
                 POV 5600 VIVO
                 WD800BB 80GB
    PSU:      HEC 350 VD-PT (3.3V@28A, 5V@33A, 12V@15A)

I'm not worrying. Just a bit surprised we all make a bug fuzz about overclocking, increasing core voltage by 25 mV at a time, and suddenly ignoring it all and "accepting" 70 mV drops if we need processing power...
If the voltage regulator would be more robust, it would be able to maintain the Vcore to (much?) higher power ratings.
This board drops by roughly 70 mV, constituting 3 notches on the voltage setting tab.
I went up to 1.6V, and what I actually get is 1.52.....
To have 1.6 available under all conditions, I'd need to set to 1.7 (yes, I've tried), which is over the top for "normal" overclocking (not to mention considerably higher temperatures).
Anyway, I'd like to know what other boards are doing regarding Vcore stability. Anyone out there with additional data?
Maybe a new target for modifications?  (if it's worth it...)

  • OC-Genie Core Voltage

After making sure my system ran stable, it was time for the OC-Genie Button :P.
My i7 2600K is cooled with a Scythe Mugen 2 but after only a couple of minutes of Prime95 temperatures went through the roof :O. Fan jumped to 1800RPM but soon enough it ticked 78 degrees celcius and I turned it off, I'm not going to wait for the smell of burning PCB's
Anyways, I noticed the core voltage is set to 1.35v while the maximum recommended is 1.4v. Why does it set it that high?
I am currently testing stability at 4.4Ghz with a core voltage of 1.25v and the temperatures stay below 70 degrees celcius. Fan runs at 55%/~1400RPM.
Another thing I've noticed is that core 0 and 3 are structurally 5-6 degrees lower than core 1 & 2. How does that work?

    Thats what it usually does.
We have been advising our users to check the voltages after using OC Genie.
What you should do is start your PC with OC Genie activated. Once in the BIOS, save this as a user profile.
Switch the OC Genie off again. Now go into the BIOS and load the saved user profile. You can now manually adjust the OC Genie settings to your herats contempt, i.e. lower the voltages gradually to find the limits.
OC Genie is a quick OC tool. The best way of Overclocking is still the manual process inside the BIOS. It takes time.

Thats normal. The thermal diodes inside the CPU are not identical. Mine differ by the same amount. Always assume the temp to be the warmest one.

  • Z68A-G43 No Core Voltage setting?

    Hi all
Well my mobo was crashing all the time with my Q6600 @ 3.4ghz so I went ahead and got a Z68A-G43, i5 2500k and 8gb of 1600mhz G-Skill Ripjawx ram.
I've noticed though....the BIOS has no setting to change core voltage, neither does MSI Control Centre or Click Bios in Windows. So...does this board have no setting for to change it I ask? I mean it may be low down in the range but £75 is a bit tall for budget board is it not? I've got a rock solid 4.5ghz overclock..I can't boot into Windows with 4.6ghz but if I use control centre I can get it solid in Windows at 4.6ghz @ an auto voltage of 1.386v (I mean I've literally thrown everything at it and its not choked).
It would be nice to try and push for 4.7ghz if I could just give it a bit of Vcore myself! Cheers

A solid OC of 4,5GHz on the budget Z68 offering ? Mere mortals would be over the moon to boast with such an OC, what is it, 30% ?  It's always that tiny bit extra we all want, and when we have it, sometimes we don't know what to do with it.
Most of us run our boards around that OC to maintain the full power saving feature. Sandy Bridge has this unwanted side effect, whenever you manually set the VCore, it will remain there, no matter what, even in idle.
But you are welcome to check with MSI technical if it's even possible to introduce this via a BIOS change in the future. I doubt it. >>How to contact MSI.<<
Believe me, the 2500K above 4,6GHz generates mostly heat and the gain in performance becomes insignificant.

  • Safe Core Voltage

I forgot to ask this question along while asking about a safe memory voltage, but how far can I safely increase the core voltage for my CPU(P4 2.60C 800FSB) which at now is  running @ the default 1.54v. I'm interested in oc'ing a bit more without the danger of it frying. Thank you!  ?(

    Hi,
IMHO is the absolut maximum 1.75, better 1.70VCore.
Look @ http://www.overclockers.com Forum and search for SNDS (Sudden NorthwoodDeathSyndrom).
My Northwood 2.4B runs since 5 Month at a maximum of 1.70V and i have no problems, but i am also watercooled and i have the Graphiccard in the Watercooled System.
The problem with the MSI Boards could be the Temp readings, i seems to be to high. Withe the Epox EP4BEA and the Proc @2.700MhZ i had a maximum of ~45°C and now with the 865PE from MSI the CoreCenter shows 51°C and under absolut fulload over Hours a max of 58°C.

  • Maximum Safe Voltage on GTX580 Lightning XE?

Going by the regular, non-Beta version of MSI's AfterBurner program, the voltage slider will go only up to 1115mV. Is that the maximum safe voltage using the stock Twin FrozR III? If there's a higher safe voltage to use, what is it and how do I raise my cards from the Maximum 1115mV in AfterBurner?
In another thread here, it says, "The Afterburner has a drop down part underneath the Core voltage option which opens up the other voltage options, that is, if you have ticked the adjust voltage part in the Options menu of Afterburner." Not in my version of AfterBurner. I downloaded and installed the latest non-Beta version.
There's no Triple-Overvolting Option in the regular version of AfterBurner or any of the Beta versions I've ever checked out, even though the advertising copy says that these cards have this option. If they do, then exactly how do I access these extra functions? These functions are part of the package I bought when I purchased these cards.
On one of my GTX580 Lightning XE's, the APS function works on one card, but not the other.  Of course, with mine it's the bottom card, so do I have to remove both cards, place the one that doesn't react to the APS, move the switch to the LN BIOS, restart the computer, turn the APS back on, turn the computer off and move the LN switch back to "Normal"? Will this make both cards react to the APS together, or do I have to download and use 2 copies of the APS? One for each card? Or does APS simply not work on more than one card?
When people have trouble with MSI's AfterBurner program, which comes on every CD packaged with every MSI card I've ever owned, why are we sent to another Forum site with our problem? If you have a problem with your Chevrolet, the dealer and their mechanics don't send you to a Ford dealer. They take care of it themselves.
Help me, please. From what others have posted, I'm certainly not the only Lightning owner with these exact same problems.

  • K8NGM2-FID CPU core voltage Fluctuations and instabilities-- Bad caps!!?

I Have K8NGM2-FID bought 6 months ago and started having stability issues since last month.
    Here is my configuration
K8NGM2-FID ver 2.0 Bios 3.73 now, used to be 3.5, experimented both, but did not help
    Onboard video, Onboard Lan, firewire
    Memory : 512 x 2 Corsair DDR400 in dual channel mode at 2.65v 64MB to Video
    CPU: AMD64 X2 3800+
    HDD WD 160GB SATA150
    Winfast TV2000 Expert Tv Tuner
Drivers, tried many version ( currently using latest Nvidia Video, MB drivers)
Now, the description of the problem.
System suddenly hangs with or without load, intermittenly. Nothing to do what we are working on. Even when System is idle.
Hangs means, it could happend two ways,
    1. simply it would not respond, screen simply freezes,
    2. sometimes, you simply see horizantal lines on monitor( Typically happens when cpu core voltage drops below it can handle). I know this because
I am using RMClock on my Turion laptop, and when we try to find lowest stable voltage we see this behaviour.
Now, some other observation,  from the day one CPU core voltage has been fluctuating a lot. Used to fluctuate anywhere between 1.37v to 1.304v( at default 1.35v).  But still has been stable. Ran 24hour prime95, so no problems.
Recently I am seeing voltage fluctuations is more, as low as 1.28v to 1.39v at default 1.35v, so I tried RMCLock and raised the voltage to 1.4v, but it seems that did not help much.
Now, As per the MSI PCALert4  voltage is changing anywhere from 1.28v to 1.38v, but also I get core voltage field empty( that is right no CPU core voltage shown) and alarm sounds. It seems, CPU does not get voltage at all and gets very low voltage for a second or so.
Things I tried,  Changed the powersupply, changed the Memory, but no use. I am lucky enough to have exact same configuration I built for a friend. So, I checked voltages on his PC and I do not see this behaviour.
Now, I ran out of options.... any idea anyone had similar problem, and if they solved?
Now, here are PCAlert 4 images
    http://img171.imageshack.us/my.php?image=128vatdef135sp5.jpg
    http://img256.imageshack.us/my.php?image=novoltageif5.jpg
    http://img406.imageshack.us/my.php?image=132vredbi3.jpg
Also, another weird behaviour with Bios, even when I change setting in bios, they did not take effect, even loading default does not help, so I have to press CMOS reset button.
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks

    Thanks for the quick reply.
First to clarify, these things has been developed a monrh ago only. It has been fine for more than 5 months.
1). Yes Memory is insalled in closest DIMM sockets to CPU,
2). I think you mean mem voltage. The memory I have is Corsair Value series and it even runs fine DDR400 at 2.55v, but I bumped it to 2.65v and also tried 2.75v ( 2.65v is typical I have been using with this MB).
3). Memory has been tested with Memtest for 24 hours and ran Dual Prime95 for 24 hours when system is assembled.
Also swapped from another PC I built for my friend with same components( same corsair value series memory) Also tested my memory on his PC, no probs. BTW I also tested my memory at 333, freezing even happens even at that speed.
4). PSU has nothing to do, because I have been monitoring all PSU rails with SPeedFan none of of the rail voltages moved at all. I even monitored with Digital Multimeter to ensure. Anyways I even tried 3 psus, one ANtec 350W smart power supply, ThemalTake 420W, Ultra 400 Watts. All have more than enough juice to power this setup. (onboard Graphics card).
5). Yes, freezing happens in simply desktop too. Nothing to do with CPU load or graphics load. It could happen even when just idling.
6). I use stock CPU cooler in Antec 1650B case with 120MM Fan running in the back( approx 50cfm) and CPU temp never exceeded 47c and MB temp typically around 28c and NB temp around 50-60c using a digital probe and 55-70c using Nvidia Monitor based on load vs no load.
7). As per Dual core patches, I applied AMD Dual Core  optimizer quite a while ago. As per the MS Patch, No I have not applied( But I doubt it helps because it has been stable without that for all these months). I may try that.
Now, what I am trying, I  disabled CNQ, and logging Core voltage fluctuation with speedfan( no monitoring).
as of yesterday night the core voltage was varying from 1.28v to 1.39v( I think that is insane 110mv fluctuation in CPU core voltage!!?) at default CPU voltage of 1.35v. BTW it has nothing to with CPU load, all these logs generated when it was idle. I remember fluctuation even when MB was new, but lowest I observed was 1.304v.
SOmehow, I suspect VRM is pretty bad on this MB.
Anyways, see the response and let me know if you think I am missing somethings. Appreciate your help.

  • K8N Neo4 Platinum CPU core voltage

I have a K8N Neo4 Platinum (BIOS version 1.5 - latest) with an A64 3000+ Venice core wich works at 1.4v standard. They are supplied by an Enermax Noisetaker AX Series, model AX EG495AX-VE(G)SFMA (485 W). BIOS indicates core voltage values between 1.32v and 1.38v. The same is indicated under Windows Xp (XP1) by the MSI CoreCenter. Are these fluctuations normal? Do you get the same readings on the same mainboard model?

    Cosminel,
Looking at your latest speedfan redaings, I think you have quite small and normal fluctations on vcore and all rails.
I have bigger variations on my Tagans and Aspire on the 12v rails depending on idle /load.
All values looks OK, except for the low 3,3v, but since it´s stable with low variation, it still may have something to do with the readings more then a bad powerdelivery.
You could always run Prime95 torture test ( under options) and monitor the fluctations with speedfan during heavy load and see if the 3,3v keep going down or keeps stable at 3.12-3.16 and the other rails as well.
The important thing is that your system is stable.

  • Z97 G45 i7 4790K Core Voltage

    hey,
i just got my new z97 g45. is it possible to set the core voltage to a fixed value? im using a dark rock advanced c1 and my core temps are in idle mode around 40 °C. seems kinda high to me so id try to lower the cpu core voltage. (i got 2 sysfans and the temperature in the case are about 25 to 30 °C.)
if its possible where and how can i change that?
    thanks in advance.

70 °C with aftermarket cooler?  Either you got bad CPU (with bad thermal solution between the chip and lid itself) or the cooler is completely screwed..
1.25V is quite a lot. For my i5 4670 on 3.6GHz I use fixed 1.050V and it's all good and pretty cool, though it also was getting around 1.15 (or above, can't remember) on default settings.
So what you can do is set 3.8GHz fixed on your CPU, run Intel Burn Test together with CPU-Z and see the max V you get then. And for example if you get around 1.15V, try to use 1.08V. If all good (Intel Burn Test it then), try even lower 1.07V until you reach the point where it will BSOD (I believe) or not boot properly.
But getting the right cooler is the most important and you shouldn't be hitting these temps with aftermarket one.
