MSI KT4AV 4 RED LEDs WON'T BOOT

Hi.  I recently purchased a new MSI KT4AV motherboard, new AMD Athlon 1.33 Ghz CPU, and new PC2100/DDR266 DIMM RAM, and when I turn it on, all 4 LEDs on the diagnostic bracket light up RED (meaning processor failure).  Does anyone know what could cause this?
My system specs:
MSI KT4AV motherboard
AMD Athlon 1.33 Ghz 200 FSB CPU
PC2100/DDR266 DIMM
420W PSU (+3.3/28A, +5/40A, +12/18A)
Hopefully that's enough to diagnose any problems because it won't output any video, just 4 red LEDs on the D-bracket.
Thanks.

Hello,
When I bought my second KT4AV, I was planning on using an Athlon T-Bird 1.4 I had laying around in it.  It had the exact same problem as you are having, it just didn't work.  I then tried a Palomino 1700+ I had in a another computer that I knew worked fine - it was (and still is) in a K7T266 Pro2-RU - and it didn't work either.
I was thinking the motherboard was bad but I bought an Applebred Duron 1600, and it worked perfectly!  So it would seem that even though they are listed as compatible, the older Athlon T-Birds and Palominos simply will not work.  My advice to you, buy an Applebred Duron, or better yet, an T-Bred XP 2000+.
Sorry if that wasn't what you wanted to hear!

    Strange issue
MSI G31M3 V2 Motherboard Nvidia 8400gs graphics card
PC won't boot unless you reseat the video card.  The box is not moving so this constant need to reseat is wierd.  Is there an issue with this motherboard and Nvidia Cards?

The BIOS Version depends on the date the board left the factory.  There is no default version.  Please check your current Version for comparison.

Please check the sticker on it and write down the current limits (A) on all main voltage rails (12V, 5 V and 3.3V).
Have you tested a different video card at any point?

  • Red LED won't stop blinking after the phone turns on. Pearl 8100.

Ok, I have searched and read all over the net to find out about this, but nothing seems to compare.
My browser suddenly stopped to respond, and the buttons on either side of the trackball stopped responding while in the browser. This happend every time I entered the browser so I did a hard reset. Now the browser wroks fine, but...every time I turn the phone on, as it starts searchig for the network it will start blinking the red LED continuously and it only stops when I receive a call or a msg.
This obviously can't be right, but I can't find anything that appears to be wrong besides this....any suggestions?

That is certainly backwards. It should START not stop when you receive message or phone call.
Do this for fun Options > Screen/Keyboard > LED Coverage Indicator. Turn that off for now and see what happens.

  • T420s No power, blinking power Led - won't boot

My 2 months old T420s declines to boot since this morning.
After pressing the Power-Button it starts to alternatingly flash the Power-Button light and the fingerprint reader LED.
Nothing else happens, no fan starting to run or anything else.
I haven't changed anything since yesterday when it booted with no problems.
Does anyone know what this could be?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    All,
For this particular scenario, it is most likely the system board.   It is probably still a good practice to pull the battery and AC and try to reset by pressing and holding the power button several times, for several seconds each time, and then re-attaching AC and try to restart.
If the symptoms remain, please contact service for assistance.
    Best regards,

My specs are in my sig...
I hooked up everything and powered on.... The fans on CPU/System run for a second or two, then they just stop. No beep, no post nothing.
I removed the ram, removed the vid card, removed all IDE cables... just power to mobo including 12V and the POWER swtich.... click power.. fans start... then stop. Nothng else.

Well, I guess my reservations were off...
Bought an Enermax 425Watt PSU, with 2 12V rails with 15 and 14 A respectively...
    System booted up...
So, my apologies to whomsoever I was questioning.
Now my question is, how do I go about setting my DDR clock.. it says at POST, 128 bit memory at 133Mhz...

  • MOVED: MSI 990fxa-gd65 new build won't boot or post

This topic has been moved to MSI AMD boards.

    Hi,
Post S/N of the motherboard and we are able to tell you (roughly) which BIOS version it has.
What if you try without graphics card?
Did you try to clear CMOS? --> >>Clear CMOS Guide<<
If it needs updating, you will either need:
    -Supported CPU by current BIOS
-SPI programmer (some IT services has one)

  • MSI 990fxa-gd65 new build won't boot or post

Hi, any help with this issue would be most appreciated
I have just built a new system spec below:
    MSI 990fxa-gd65
    AMD FX8350
    2 x 4GB Hyper X fury DDR3 1866Mhz RAM
    MSI GTX960 Graphics card
    1TB WD HDD
Corsair HX1000w (recovered from an older machine and in full working order)
Unit powers ok, all fans are running, HD, Graphics card fans run and lights up DVD drive spins up OK too.
Motherboard has two cpu phase lights lit. There is no post beeps or video out.
I've tried it with a single stick of memory and a different lower spec video card but nothing seems to work. Some posts are suggesting the CPU may not be supported with the MoBo's current version of bios so questions are:
How can I find out the bios version and if it is compatible as it doesn't reach the bios screen?
If it needs updating how do you update it?

  • MSI KT4AV no boot issue

I'm having a heck of a time getting my computer to boot back up I get 3 long beeps. This does not match anything I've found for codes. I went back in and installed the D-Bracket 4 LED diagnostic bracket.
This "normally" should show 4 red LED's on boot up. I get 3. The number 1 LED is dead, nothing showing. It then goes to number 2 and 4 red and number 3 green. It stays there and goes through the 3 long beeps.
Is it RAM or is it memory ???
    anyone know for sure ??

Well, I was going to post all teh specs...but. I was getting pretty frustrated with it when I "re-set" the power switch on the back of the PWS. I'm running an ANTEC Sonata box and PWS. When I turned the switch off and on at the back I was able to boot up to a point.
I had jumped the CMOS earlier thinking it was the problem. So I had to go back through and reset all the setup config...that done it works like a champ again....
I had reset the Vcard and Memory, no help. I had a guy at a computer store tell me the 2 sticks X 256 were not compatiable and that was causing the trouble. He was a little perplexed when I told him it had ran like that for months....He did want me to bring the box in so he could fix it....wonder what that would have cost ?? I guess if you replace enough parts it will work...
Bottom line : 3 lond beeps with a MSI KT4AV board VIA chipset and ANTEC PWS try turning it off and on at the back...worked for me.
Never was able to find an actual listing for those 3 long beeps...

  • I7 MBP 8.2 AMD 6750M 2011 Crashes, Red Horizontal Lines, won't boots

Crash, horizontal red lines, won't boot, SMC PRAM reset, failed boots, successful boot cycles:
For about a week, I have been struggling with crashes, followed by red horizontal lines on the screen, and inability to boot into multi-user mode.  It will boot into single user mode, with red stripes on black background.  To get it to boot again I "shutdown -h now" from single user mode, SMC reset, PRAM reset 3 times, and attempt boots with <command> R two to three times unsuccessfully.  Then, if I am lucky, when I do a boot into single-user mode (power, <command> S), it boots into single user mode with a black background and no stripes, then I "exit" to boot.  If I am unlucky, the black screen will have red stripes or red snow in single-user mode.  After several crashes, I also have to remove my hard drive, and do a disk repair and permission repair, while connected to a different mac, or format and restore ML.  (I have two backups of my personal data.)  The failed multi-user boots are terminated by grey or black screens of death, accompanied by heat and the fands running fast.  The fans also run in single user mode without processor load if they red stripes are on the screen.  A successful multi-user boot is cool without fans running.  I didn't have any crashing problems before switching to ML recently.
Memtest fails in multi-user mode (but not single-user mode):
Running memtest on 8GB RAM in multi-user mode fails at a single address on the most significant byte (with 1 bit difference).  However, memtest does not show a failure in single-user mode, nor with only a single 4GB module in multi-user mode.
Increased stability with gfxCardStatus and Flash unininstall:
Using gfxCardStatus Integrated Only mode, and uninstalling Flash, seems to help.  However, I do get crashes or inability to wake up display which seems to be associated with processes like (google Chrome renderer) which forces gfxCardStatus out of "Integrated Only" mode.  http://gfx.io/switching.html
    Future plans:
I am in Mexico where RAM is outrageously expensive.  So I will order RAM from the USA and try new 16 GB RAM because it is cheaper part swap than the logic board.  It makes sense to try the cheap stuff first.  I would rather switch to Linux and continue my bioinformatics work than pay and wait to replace the i7 logic board which warranty expired a few months ago.    I refuse to hit it with a heatgun to reflow the BGA solder on the GPU.  I really need the i7 data processing throughput I paid for.
    Suggestions?
Does anyone understand the ambiguous memtest results?

I tested if my computer would hang, if I don't use the Mountain Lion GUI.  I didn't log in on the GUI.  I used ssh from my Mac Mini, to launch scripts while heavily load the i7 CPU while not logged on to the GUI.  I woke up the screen a few time successfully.  However Dec 30, early in the morning, the screen remained black and the login screen would not appear pressing a key.  My ssh sessions were still working and I could continue to run scripts and load all the CPU cores verified by "top" on the command line.  However, I could not ssh to my MacBook Pro!
         ssh [email protected]
ssh: Could not resolve hostname hanalei.local: nodename nor servname provided, or not known
(Previously established SSH sessions continued to work, but new ones could not be started.)
I ran memtest afteward 4 times without failure while I went to sleep.
Looking at the console log, something killed authentication, which I assume disabled the ability to ssh into my MacBook Pro.

  • PC Won't boot now! D bracket showing all 4 leds red!

Ok this has got me stumped, on top of all my fan speed problems now that I have installed Windows 7 Ultimate x64, last night I found that my PC now WON'T BOOT AT ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!! ? The D bracket is now showing all red leds, which according to the manual, it means either the CPU is damaged or CPU is not seated correctly. But how can this be? I haven't even touched the CPU!?
Anyway, I have already tried removing the heat sink and reseating the cpu but it is still showing all 4 red leds.
This morning I tried booting it again but now I noticed that it is showing 2 red and 2 orange leds. What does the orange colour indicate?
I've also tried clearing the CMOS - no change.
I am completely at a loss now as to how my PC can all of a sudden just become totally unusable!? Is it the fault of Windows 7? Does Windows 7 somehow require more power to the CPU which may have fried it?
    What can I do now?
CPU: AMD Athlon 3500+ Socket 939
Motherboard: MS-7100 MSI K8N SLI Platinum
Memory: 1 gig 2x512 sticks of DDR2 OCZ
    Video card: gigabyte geforce 8600gt
Hard drive: 1x WD 74Gig Raptor, 1x WD 320 Gig Caviar
    OS: Windows 7 Ultimate x64
    PSU: Antec True 480Watts

Have you tried another processor?  With your fan issues it concerns me the processor my have gotten too hot.
Yes, this is certainly a possibility and I haven't ruled this out yet. However the problem is trying to find someone with another socket 939 cpu and mobo. I know someone who has a Shuttle PC but he majorly cbfed taking it apart and trying my cpu out.
But even if the processor got too hot, why is the D Bracket showing 2 red and 2 orange leds. Shouldn't it be showing all 4 as red? That's why I still believe the BIOS maybe corrupted as well.
Anyway, I'm getting in a technician today so hopefully he will be able to try it out somehow.

umm   have you connected the power cable for CPU?  sounds rare question for me,  sorry  ..  All  I know is  CPU is seated into socket where get power.     Power ATX 24 pin power connector to mainboard  is properly  connected.  or  are you talking about  ATX 8 Pin power connector JPWR2?  is it that?
.      Also  I tried and  clear CMOS just using  1 stick RAM the slot close to CPU. nothing got it.     Debug LED   FF .     no  signs  of CPU no debug Led   Must see CPU LEDs  On .   as for  me trouble  is  on CPU or motherboard. when you install CPU did you push hard down and closing lever?  I installed CPU like manual say completely embedded into socket and closing lever  I didn't pushed .   Have To push hard it?   what you think about?     I 'll Try tomorrow removing motherboard  and reinstall   Properly as  I  did  and everything back    again.

HELP NOW, PLEASE...  MSI KM2M Combo-L Won't boot...!!!
    1) System was running fine...
    2) Plugged in Split Mini-Jack from daughter card slot, to Line-In Minijack (where it was before)...
    3) Sound from speakers blurted out loud...
    4) Screen Froze up...  no Ctl-Alt-Delete...
    5) Power button...  No response...
    6) Reset Button...  No Response...
    7) Unplugged...

RES:: No signal to monitor... LED Light on case turns on for about 10 seconds...  CD-rom LED turns on as if BIOS...   Then computer turns off...  Fans Still working...
THOUGHTS::  Since the speakers are powered through the sound card (and were on at time), then when the Split Mini-Jack Dongle from daughter card, was plugged back into the Line-In Mini-jack port (where it was origionally)...  Something shorted out...  Any Ideas on what, exactly...??  Anyone heard of this before...??  I've never seen something like this before, and PC's have changed SOOO much over the last few years, that I'm kinda in the dark...   But this is my girlfriend's computer, and she has a Mid-Term paper due on Monday (today being Saturday), and I'm in serious trouble right now...  PLEASE HELP...!!!
The company that built the computer, doesn't seem to be in business anymore...!!!
(But the waranty sticker is still intact on the case,  she doesn't want me to cut it unless the builder is definitely out of business...)

  • MSI 6182 won't boot

Hi, I have a MSI 6182 that I am having problems getting to boot up.  I've tried removing everything except the CPU and memory and the computer will not boot up.  All that happens is that the computer turns on and the diagnostic led's light up 0101, indicating that it is Testing VGA Bios.  I've tried clearing the cmos and that doesn't help.  too bad it doesn't have a agp slot and I don't have any pci video cards.
Can I reflash the bios?  That is my last hope it seems...  I am about read to throw out this board because I can't figure out what is wrong...

I wouldn't put much stock in the "C" by the MSI logo mine has the same C to the right of the 6th PCI slot (white ink) as well but above the PCI slot it says ms6182 ver:1 but on mine (maybe yours?) when I took the board right out of the case on the bottom of the ISA slot are a couple stickers to really confuse the issue mine says 9909 Option:A S/N 573853 So you'd think ver:A but it also says MSI MS-6182D & it had a PIII 550E Coppermine SBridge 82801AA NBridge 82810DC100 so Ver: D is my guess.
My board won't boot just like yours I get a black screen but I get 1 long & 2/3 short beeps on mine which on an Award Bios v1.4 means a video bios error & since you can't replace the noexistent AGP card your board like mine may be DOA. I've pretty much gave up on mine but I may try to flash the bios blind one of these days it's a paperweight anyway & I got nothin to lose now I got another Mobo finally
I've tried different Ram, CPU, Battery, ISA Vid, PCI Vid,  it just beeps & stays black but maybe yours isn't so bad off Sorry my post isn't more helpful but I pretty much wrote my MOBO off already
