MSI KT4AV and PSU FAN connector?

MSI KT4AV has 2 fan connectors: CPU FAN and System FAN. What about PSU FAN - is there PSU fan connector on this mobo? Can I connect PSU Fan to System Fan connector?

I've read that PSU Fan is not powered from Fan Connector, but it's only uses it to measure RPM of PSU Fan. RPM of PSU fans is controlled by PSU (Chieftec 360W HPC-360-202 DF). Is amperage so important in this situation? Sorry, if it's lame question but I don't know too much about PSU's. ;-)

  • Where should PSU fan connector go?

Damn, feel like a total noob for asking this question even though my system is already built and running fine. The manual does not explicity say where the PSU fan connector can/should go so i have three options, the NBFAN (not used since i have a waterblock on it) that has a sensor, or the connectors for the system fans, or cpu fan. Other boards i've used usually have connectors labeled for the PSU, but not my Neo2 Platinum. I connected the PSU fan to a system connector and decided to use the NB one for a case fan. My question is there any danger of connecting the PSU connector to the CPU connector? I have a waterblock on the cpu so the connector is not being used and it would come in handy because of the sensor.

I never hooked up the psu's fan connector to any motherboard, I really never found a need to monitor the psu's fans and thats what its for. I dont think anything can be harmed since it can work without even being connected, but dont hold me to that. Someone with more experience in the psu area may be of more help. Interesting question.

  • PSU Fan Connector

I hooked my Enermax fan connector up to my motherboards PWFAN1 connector. I started up PcAlert4, and it reads out 0 RPM on my PSU fan. So, I switched it over to PWFAN2, and my computer wouldn't boot! Back to PWFAN1 and it boots fine again, but I get a 0 RPM reading on the PSU Fan. There's a temp sensor on the PSU, is it just not turning on the second fan because it doesn't need it? How do I know for sure that the PSU fan is hooked up right and working? The PSU came with a connector so I can just plug the fan in and have it always on. I'd rather have it always on and know it's working then 0 RPM and potentially not working. Anyone have any thoughts?
    Thanks,
    Dave

My Enermax has two fans. One is always on, the second one is motherboard controlled (or is it simply motherboard MONITORED?). Is the one that's always on the one on the bottom, or the one on the back of the PSU? I just went to Enermax's website and manged to dechiper enough of a broken english FAQ to read that some mobo's read out 0 RPM even though the fan is up and running. I'm still gonna check that both fans are spinning tonight. I know the one at the back is, I can see it, haven't checked the one underneath.

  • [VIA] MSI-KT4AV and PC3200 RAM

    Hi guys!
I've got an MSI-KT4AV mainboard, an Athlon XP 1800+, and a 512mb 400mhz Pc3200 module. This is the problem: I changed the DDR module from a 512mb 266mhz module to the 512mb 400mhz module; the mainboard has always worked fine with the first type of DDR module, but with the second one, the PC doesn't boot up. I try to change the memory but there is the problem yet. I try also the DDR Module 400mhz on another MSI Mainboard and that mobo function but not the MSI-KT4AV!!!!!   I'm sure that this mobo support the DDR Module 400mhz but I don't know why the system doesn't boot up. Another important thing: when I press the power button to switch on the PC, the Display is totally black with no signal but I can clearly hear 3 beeps from the motherboard: BEEP BEEP BEEP silence BEEP BEEP BEEP silence BEEP BEEP BEEP and so on....
    Can anyone help me?
Thank you so much for Your reply....

Did you try clearing your CMOS?  Look in your mobo manual if you don't know how.  That should fix it. :D.
If it still doesnt, put your old stck of memory back in, go into your bios, and look under Frequency and Voltage.  Look for Memory voltage/vDimm.  Adjust it to 2.7 or 2.8v.  Save settings and exit.  Wait for windows to boot and shutdown.  Then try your new ram again. =D

  • Psu fan sensor

i have a new psu which has a wire for the fan sensor with a 2 pin plug attached but i cannot find anywhere to plug it into on my k7n2 board.
my question is  am i blind or does this not need to be attached to the m/board being that the 2 fan points on the m/board are already being used
    thanks in advance

I've just upgraded my PSU to an Antec unit. I've a few Q's of my own and thought i'd tag along rather than start a new thread.
My MSI Supplied PC Alert software has displays for System Fan , CPU Fan And PSU fan can i presume that the fan that is sitting on my Northbridge Chipset is supplying the System Fan speed.
Would it be OK to run the northbridge fan via a spare molex+adaptor and plug my Antec PSU sensor wire into SFAN1. I would think it was more important to have the CPU and NB fans on constantly and let the PSU vary the case and PSU fans - any idea's on this ??
I Think that the Antec PSU has a certain amount of logic built in and can vary the fan speeds depending on the Temp , does anybody know if it can do this independantly (with an inbuilt temp probe) or does it need to be plugged into one of the MoBo Fan pin-outs.
I can't get over just how quiet my computer is after fitting this new PSU , i keep checking to see eveything is still whirring away, it's so quiet. The (brand new) Fan supplied with my CPU is a right rattler when it starts up, it is easily the noisiest fan on the machine, possibly noisier than the 5 other Antec fans put together !
Sorry if these Q's are a bit basic , i always think it best to ask before frying anything.

  • [VIA] related to msi kt4av (ms 6712) mainboards

hi! I've got a msi kt4av and a few things bother me!
1 the cpu voltage is higher than I set it in windows: I set it to 1.65 but it goes to 1.675 in reality! this goes for all of the voltage values. anyone got this problem?
2 I'd like to buy a new hdd, preferably over 200 gb! on the faq of the board it says that the max supported is 160 gb, but I have doubts it has been updated anywhere recently!
could those of you that have or had this mainboard, help me out a bit? thanks

if a mobo says the max supported HDD size is over 137gb, (eg 160gb) then any size above that (eg 200gb) will work. after the 137gb limit on older boards, the next max size limit i believe is somewhere around 4 terabytes
as for CPU voltage, you should set that in BIOS, and preferably to AUTO, unless you're overclocking and know what you're doing windows utilities don't always read values correctly

  • Msi pro-e mb possibly keeping psu fan on?

Hello all, fresh i7920 build with msi pro-e mb, corsair xms3 6gb, and a corsair tx750w psu.  The problem i'm having is when i power down the system for the night the psu fan will continue to run all night long even though the system if off(not in sleep or hibernate).  I am guessing its the psu or the mb or maybe even a bios setting i'm overlooking?  Any suggestions or feedback would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

Hmmm,  Another experiment to try.  Turn off the system and do what I said before with unplugging the PSU and draining the capacitors.  Now, unplug the SATA connector to your HDDs and the Power connectors to the HDDs.  You can leave the ODDs connected.  Re-plug in the PSU with no HDDs connected or powered.  Turn on the PSU and turn on the computer.  You should get a blinking cursor or some message.  Turn off the computer by the power switch.  Does the fan still run?
If the fan still runs, do you have access to another computer or another PSU?  You could try this PSU on another computer, yours or a friends to see if it does the same thing, or borrow another PSU and see it that fan runs on your PRO-E when the machine is off.

  • PSU Fan Moniter Connector

I have a Antec True550 EPS12V 550W power supply, I am curious about the blue/back wire ... it says PSU FAN MONITER CONNECTOR. It's a 3 pin connector. Does MSI 865PE support this? I wonder, since the power supply has auto temp controller for salience.

But it will Not Speed up or Ramp Down Without you Adjusting it Manually, as there is No thermal sensor , The Only thing that it will do Is Report the PSU'S Fan Speed in RPM'S...But If the NB Fan Header did have a Thermal Sensor (Or the Best would Be The Sytem Fan Header But this Lacks even the Speed Monitoring Function as it is only 2 Live Pins) But if they Both Had Thermal and Speed Sensors, that Would Make these Boards Absolutely Complete, As That Is My Main (and Only) Gripe about these 2 Boards, is the Lack of Fully Functional Fan Headers, and Put 4 of them On the Boards, Like almost everyone else does, Not that I use them as I Use my PSU to Power my Case Fans, But it would be Nice just in case I decided to use them, and for the people that do rely on them......But I have Already Suggested this in the MSI Survey..............Sean REILLY875

  • KT4V and Enermax fan at SFAN connector

I have a KT4V MoBo with a temperature running a bit high so I decided to add a fan at the SFAN connector. I connected an Enermax fan, UC-8FAB-B (with manual adjustable speed), to the SFAN connector. The system run for some seconds, then stopped. When I tried to reboot, it all stopped at 3 red LED and one green LED on at the D-Bracket with 3 beeps. This indicates a memory error. Unable to get the system to boot.
I tried with the fan directly to the PSU and the fan itself worked ok. (Even at the SFAN connector eventually) but the system do not reboot at all.
I have measured all voltages at the ATX power connector and they are ok. I have tested the RAM in a different system and it is ok. Do the fan have a current rating to high, destroying something such as the voltage supply to the RAM ?

Regarding the high temperature on the CPU (max 64 degrees C) I tried to remount the CPU fan with Arctic Silver Thermal Compound with the same result.
Regarding the SFAN header: the current of the fan might have blown something on the motherboard. I should like to have the specification of the system SFAN output as to max current rating, as to avoid destroying something in the future (should be in the user manual).
I should also like to know how and wher the voltage to the DDR RAM (2.5 V) is generated. (Could be a fault here).
I have returned the KT4V to the seller waiting for an answer to RMA..... ?(

  • PSU Fan and NB Plug

I know this has been talked before BUT.. I just got a new Enermax PSU and I have connected the 3 wire fan connector to the NB plug on the mobo.  The concern I have is that the PSU controls the fan speed, but I thought the NB plug ALSO controls the fan.  Is there going to be some sort of conflict?  I have the SMART NB fan temperarture in the BIOS disabled.  Is this correct or can there be a problem?
    Thanks,

    Thanks,
what you also could do is place that connector to S-fan1 or something and get an old connector from an old fan and take the two wires on the left and right, rip out the center one, and connect those two ends you ripped out of the old fan and connect them to the corresponding wires on that S-fan1 connector, and plug it in to the NB-fan connection
This way it'll draw power from the S-fan1 connector, and the speed won't be changed by the board, yet you'll have the speed wires on the NB fan so you can monitor them in corecenter
Getting to be a bit more work I ma willing to spend time on.  I disconnected the NB connector and zip tied the wire.  I really don't need to monitor that fan since I am not OC'ing.  It was more a "nice to have" than a "need to have".

  • Activate fan Connector on MSI GF4 Ti4400

My Gf4 Ti 4400 has a extra fan connector thar I would like to use to connect a 80mm fan that is on my case, I have no more connectors free on MB, The problem is that, the connector doesnt work, does anyone knows how to activate it??? hope for reply's
    thanks in advance

    badasilva,
That is a very bad idea. Do NOT use your Vid Card to try and power a fan!!!! 8o

  • MSI KT4AV-L and DDR400

I have a msi kt4av-l mobo, a 512 stick of ddr400 and a athlon xp 2600+ running at fsb 166. the memory stick is only stable when i make it run at 266 mhz, 333 and 400 causes random reboots. so i wonder if anyone can help me get my memory to run stable at 400 like it´s supposed to do

    Hello,
You can either overclock the CPU FSB to 200Mhz to match the 400DDR memory,
that will make the memory run at its full potential.
    Or
Leave the CPU FSB at the default speed, 166Mhz and underclock the memory to 333DDR.
That way you will get the best system performance possible. You should not overclock the CPU.
Please note that the memory can only run at its full potential if the CPU FSB is the same, 200Mhz FSB and 400DDR memory.
And as you do not have a 200Mhz FSB CPU, running the memory at 400DDR or 333DDR is the same. Due to the CPU FSB.
    Did SPD work?

  • MSI GT683 Black Screen and full fan speed at startup

    Hello!
SO this morning i woke up and was about to start my lovely laptop.
I pressed the on button and the screen remained black and the fan sped up slowly and slowly, after 10 sec it was at full throttle!
Yesterday i got tired and put my laptop to "sleep mode" because I meant to use it later, but I fell asleep can something have happened by that?
I have had this laptop for 3 months, never had a single problem. But now this :(
And a really need my laptop for school now!
When i bought it one 2GB ram module was changed to a 4BG so the total would be 8GB, and a 60GB SSD was installed on the second HDD slot.(Boots on 22 sec )
I have played a few hours of COD MW3 but i have a coolermaster laptop cooling pad with 2 fans, so the laptop did not get so hot when i played.
    So please anyone help?
(I´ve tried booting with only one ram installed and tried my ssd in my other laptop, both are fine.)

I know this is an old topic but I just had the same issue and wanted to post my results in case anyone else was having this issue and stumbles on this thread. I was playing a game on my laptop, temperatures were well within the normal range, and suddenly the computer made a sort of "zap" noise and the screen went black. The computer also fell deathly silent but the power light (the shield) was still on. No indicator lights on the mouse pad and the orange lights around the screen had gone out. I had no choice but to do a hard shutdown. When I turned it back on, the screen remained black, the power light remained lit, but no other lights on the computer. The fan was on ultra speed in a way that I have never heard my fan run. I smelled the exhaust to see if I smelled burning but there wasn't any sign of that. Anyway, I let the computer rest, tried again the next day with the same result. I contacted my warranty company, started a claim, and waited for them to send me the box so I could ship my laptop to them. In the meantime, determined as I am  , I tried the laptop several more times in the next few days just to see if I would have any luck. Sometimes the fan would come on and sometimes the laptop would be ghostly quiet but otherwise everything else was the same. Same blackness, same nothingness. I immediately assumed this was a major malfunction, most likely the motherboard. When the warranty company took the information for the claim, they agreed that it sounded like the motherboard or possibly the hard drive.
Three weeks later, my laptop is on its way back to me. I received word from the warranty company that the issue was the graphics card. This completely blew my mind as I wouldn't expect the graphics card to prevent the indicator lights from flashing, the  soft touch keys at the top of the keyboard, the lights on the sides of the screen, etc. They are the experts however, right? They said the video card malfunctioned. They replaced the video card and now the laptop is in working order. They are sending it back to me now and I should hopefully receive it in the next couple of days.
Sorry for the looooooong response but I wanted to give as much info as possible because I couldn't really find anything when I was searching for this same issue. Hope it helps someone!

I got the MOBO and CPU for a Friend of mine. She got her husband friend to set it up and had problems getting it to power up. (He works for the local council in I.T so he know his stuff even if it mostly older hardware) I asked them to try a different PSU (ColoursIT) as the ones they had was 12V @ 13a and 12v @ 15a
Well no joy so I took it back to try myself. After trying in 2 different cases (with the above hard ware) inside and out side. I can’t get it to POST. The weird thing is all the PSU fan spin when connected even if the front panel connectors are not connected. When connected the same happens but the power buttons have no effect. I know the buttons work it happy to power up my old XP chip.
The CPU fan won’t spin when connected to MOBO CPU fan header. But using a 4 pin to 3 pin fan adaptor it does. Reseated the CPU had the same outcome (all the pins look fine). I’ve tested all the RAM (one @ a time) and PSU’s in my rig (in sig) all are working fine and boots the system into winxp and all the rails are with-in 5%. The GFX’s I’ve got an old AMD 1800 XP tested and working.
On some MOBO with damaged CPU you normally get beeps. An asus socket 754 I had over a year ago use to give audio warnings when POST’ing e’g CPU not installed, GFX not installed. I get no Beeps from the K8MM3-V. Their no option to connect a D bracket (even though its not supplied)
Tried resetting CMOS and removed the battery for 8 hours and replaced it, also with another one.
I think the MOBO dead but it mite have taken out the CPU as well. I’ve got no other 754 to check it with.
    Ideas ?

    Hi!
Nice to see that some people realize that giving full specs is very important!
You did quite a lot already, so that leaves not much to suggest. The only thing I can think of now, is to check the CPU: is it installed correctly? Then you can take the board out and lay it on a piece of cardboard. Leave the CPU, leave one dimm and the vid card. Clear the CMOS again, connect the PSU and try to start the board.

  • PS and CPU fan comes on merely by plugging in AC power

I am repairing a friends Athlon xp machine and have tested everything with extras.
I put a new MSI KM4M-V board in.  The pc runs xp fine, etc., etc., however, when shut down the pc, Windows shuts down, but the ps and cpu fan stays on.  Indefinitely.  I have to either flip the on/off switch on the back of the ps or pull the damn plug.
    What gives?
When I plug the thing in cold, same thing; the fans come on and then I press the start button whenever I want and the system posts and boots normally.
A motherboard Short?  I checked the switch and even pulled the connector; the fans still come on when I plug it in.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks.
    J Romulus

Yes, I've let it run for hours after Windows shuts off, it simply doesn't go off.
Simply plugging it in or flipping ps switch, the same thing; ps and cpu fans come on automatically.
I've read all the APIC threads; if I were strictly having problems shutting down, maybe it be that.  But it is so strange that it does it from a cold start.
Got to be some kind of short, or else a bad board.
