MSI KT4V and radeon card compatibility.

hi guys...first of all, sorry about bad english, i'm from germany.
well, the point is, i actually have a MSI KT4V mother board installed in mi pc, and i planed to buy a Radeon 9800 pro graphic card, i have 2 options...buy the BBA (build by ati)..or the sapphire one, i want to know if i will have any trouble of compatibility with both of this cards. Just that, please i'm waiting for your's answers guys

Codegen don't perform as well as you might think. The info I ask for should be on a sticker on the PSU, inside the case. But I'll help you, since I've been there before.
As you see below, there is not much room for a Radeon9800:
"Codegen 400W Pentium 4 ATX Switching Dual Fan Power Supply, Retail Package
Output:400W
+3.3V -> 14A Orange
+5.0V -> 30A Red
+12V -> 12A Yellow
+5VSB -> 2A Purple
-5V -> 0.5A White
-12V -> 0.8A Blue "

  • MSI KT4V and Radeon X800 Pro...

    Hi all!
I have a question regarding my MSI KT4V MoBo. Does anybody have any experience installing a Radeon X800 card in such a MoBo?
I have read earlier that there was a size problem with the 9800 pro series.
Apparently it is so big that it touches the ram slots!?
The X800 is smaller though so it may not be a problem.
    Any help will be appreciated
    Best Regards
    Basse

I don't see how it would touch the RAM slots, it might just be a problem when you need to remove RAM that you need to remove the card first so you can pull back the RAM clips.

  • Msi kt4v and tv-cards, a no-go ?

    Hello ,
I just wanted to share my experience with this board and tv-cards . It seems not one tv card seems to work as it should on this board !??!
This is the conclusion i must come too after having tested several cards off different manufacturers.
radio on these cards does work without a flaw , but whenever tv function is used , screen output is garbled, just impossible to watch.
I wonder where the problem lies :
having had those cards in an kt7a (kt133a chipset) from abit without a problem and also on an msi intel bx mobo without probs,
i can only conclude its the freaking mobo witch does something wrong, might it be the VIA kt400 ???
it is not os related since all pc have same os = Win XP.
APIC doesnt make a difference and it shouldn't as apic is a part of pci 2.1 standard (so is acpi). after trying every possible permutation of pci card / slot configuration nothing helps.
Can someone research this further ?
whenever cpu usage goes up to full i even had some more garbled pics where something was vissible : this is very strange, de cpu seems to send out high frequencies that mess up the system somewhere.
    sys specs :

    greetings

    hi maesus,
all those options have already been tried and nothing really does any affect accept when i ennabled cpu halt detection: it got even worse, i never used that option to start with
changing pci latency did nothing and i keep it at lowest possible therefore.
delay transaction enabled did nothing and i keep it dissabled since i have no problem with the audigy installed, the sound is perfect. also tried combinations of these settings.
i also can't seem to get 256Meg AGP aperture size to be recognized when set in bios to 256 all possible programs return a size of 128 ?
i also tried diferent winxp kernels : acpi uniproccesor (with apic) , advanced configuratio..... kernel, standard pc kernel. no differences whatsoever. everything works as it should witch is in fact great , except the darned tv-cards, that is to say, their picture is messed up.
i wish i could try it on an nforce2 board

  • MSI Big Bang Marshall B3 RAM and VGA card compatibility question

    Hello
I am thinking about upgrading my RAM and VGA card but will those be compatible with my mobo?
Zotac GTX680 AMP Edition and GSkill Ripjaws 4x8GB F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL kit.

    Hello
I am using Corsair 850W PSU and my BIOS version is 1.5. I made an error by installing v3.0 BIOS but thanks to dual BIOS feature I was able to save my system.
I am thinking about buying those RAMs because there is a great discount on Turkey at the moment. (Nearly half price of other competitors)

  • MSI KT4V and Barton 3000+ crash problem

    Hi all!
I recently upgraded my PC (MSI KT4V) with an AMD Barton 3000+ CPU. Before I had a 2600+ Throughbred.
With my old 2600+ I could run my system stable with a FSB set at 166. It couldn't go much higher that 175 before the system became unstable.
With my new Barton I have a problem :
With my FSB set at 166 games like Far Cry and COD crashes. Explorer crashed at sites with Flash content (flash.ocx error report) otherwise no problems. My Pinnacle studio 7 program couldn't render playable movies.
After I underclocked my CPU, setting the FSB at 154 giving me a total speed of 2GHz, all problems are gone now
My system reports a CPU temp at 48 degrees celsius at a 166 FSB setting but could it be a cooling problem anyway?
I have used Artic Silver as thermal paste on the CPU die.
I have reset my memory timings to CAS 2,5 even though the Corsair RAM supports CAS 2 to get the most stable system.
Is the KT 400 chipset up for the job with the increased speed?
I would like to get the most performance out of my new Barton so I hope that some of you guys can help me out here.
    My system spec is :
    Win XP SP1 and SP2
CPU : AMD Barton XP 3000+
    Motherboard : MSI KT4V (Bios 1C0)
    Soundcard : SB Audigy 2
    Graphics card : Radeon 9800pro 256
    Memory : 1GB Corsair XMS (CAS 2)
    Power suply : Antec 480W
    All latest drivers installed
    Best Regards
    Basse

    Hi Osnavi!
48 degrees is an idle temp and about 51 stressed.
The processor is an Athlon 3000+ 333MHz
The cooler is a Thermaltake Silent Boost
    I have 2 modules 512 MB Corsair XMS PC 2700 333MHz placed in slot 1 and 3
I forgot to tell that I ran memtest386 with the fsb set at 166 and I had error reports on the 128Kb L1 cache right away. Lowering the fsb to 154, the memtest came out alright.
Should I remove the heatsink and reaply cooling paste - silver-free maybe?
    Strange
    Any ideas are welcome
    Best regards

  • My MSI Board and ATI Cards

I have been looking into upgrading my Video Card and I am very much looking at one of the higher-end ATI Radeaon cards. But I also hear some complaints concerning my board and the ATI cards, with respect to the AGP slot and the whole 4x/8x issue. Can somone tell me what ATI board, if any, will work with my board with no issues?
Or am I being forced t ostay ith GeForce Boards?
I currently have the 1.80 BIOS for my board.
    Thanks

    Official statement from MSI :
KT4 Ultra was tested OK with ATI Radeon 9700 in MSI lab.
Some applications incorrectly detected the card as AGP2x. (refer to [1] knowing that this board only supports AGP4x and AGP8x). ATI addresses this issue here. Other tools like PowerStrip correctly shown AGP8x.
Detail discussions were taken place here. The current workaround is :
    * do not install or uninstall any VIA AGP drivers, including those in VIA 4-in-1 drivers.
Thanks to everyone contributed to the KT4 vs Radeon 9700 thread.
We assume Radeon 9700 Pro, 9700, 9500 Pro and 9500 should work flawlessly with KT4 Ultra as virtually no complain report against these products at the moment.
I saw this in the Forum Troubleshooting FAQ. I was Planning on getting a 9700 PRO or later card. Has anynone had any issues with that card?

  • MSI KT3V and Radeon 9100

I have this mobo + graphic card, Athlon XP1700, and i have some sort of compatibility problem. When i install Windows 98se, DirectX 9 and any catalyst newer than 3.2 i've got ddhelp error communicate (always when i close simply tetris 4000 game). I check psu, ram, cpu cooling and card in other computer. In my older computer on mobo Aopen AK72(Via KX133) and Athlon 550 with this same via 4in1 drivers and directx i can use any catalyst without a problem. I change hdd too. Only things not tested are mobo and cpu, but i don't have any other. Does abybody knows what is goin on and how i can solve this problem?

I think no. Only two, usb update and update for hard disk drive with 2MB cache. Do You think that's Windows 98SE problem?

  • Multi GPU use with Nvidia and Radeon Card combined possible?

I know it's unlikely but does CC support the combined use of Nvidia and AMD graphics cards, mercury engine, cuda / opencl / multi GPU feature wise?
There's a lack of performance currently; especially when color grading. So we're gonna have to upgrade our macpro.
    Current Setup:
    Mac OS X Lion
    3,33GHz 6-Core INTEL Xeon
    24GB 1333MHz DDR 3 RAM
    ATI Radeon HD 5870
    Nvidia Quadro 4000
    SSD Raid internal
    SATA HDDs external
What's a good / better setup especially for color grading in Premiere (might switch over to SpeedGrade CC soon)?
We're gonna replace the Radeon HD 5870. Should we buy replace it with a NVIDIA Quadro K 5000 or a Radeon 7950 Mac Edition?
    Thanks in advance!

Get the K5000 if you need 10bit color preview. If you dont get the 680GTX Mac edition.

thanks for info bas, glad to hear it.  :D
Only 300w. Already have xp 2400+, i have no problems now, but I know if i get a morep owerful gdx card, ill need a new psu.

  • MSI KT400 and RADEON 9700 PRO

I'm having many problems with this combination: some games don't work.
I've read there are problems with agp 8x, any advice?
    I can't play:
    mechwarrior mercenaries
    arx fatalis
    platoon
    thanx!

Since the KT400 is a VIA Chipset based motherboard and this is an Nvidia/AMD/SiS SocketA forum I am moving it to the VIA based forum.
Perhaps you can elaborate on exact problems and provide a complete hardware listing, including your power supply's combined wattage across the +5v and +3v rails.

  • KT6 and radeon

    hi all
i have just aquired the kt6 but can not get the graphics card to work properly, a radeon 9600pro
it works fine in windows, but as soon as i try to play any games it just crashes, sometimes re starting and others just sits there with black screen, at sometimes theres even loud screaching sounds when this happens through the speakers, i also tried another card, radeon 7200 with the same resaults, i have tried different drivers, fast write on and off, re installed windows and still no luck.
also the mic input dont work on this board and when windows is loading theres a loud crackling noise from the speakers when the sound card drivers load
i have had no problems with other msi boards and this card but this mobo just dont like it, could it be a problem with the boards agp bus? or could the board be faulty?
    specs are as follows

    512 samsung 400 mhz
radeon 9600 pro, made by ati

    2. unlock the CPU multiplier and void CPU warranty
    3. lower down your (unlocked) multiplier and run at FSB 166Mhz so all PCI and AGP are still in default speed.
Any other speed than 100Mhz, 133Mhz and 166Mhz FSB is NOT recommended!
Please don't quote me further as overclocking is at your own risk and may spoil your hardware.
And you think that i dind not try those 3 points  X(
ofcourse i did but my board does not boot @ a multiplyr difrend than 13,5 ( and yes the cpu is unlocked ).
    and about overclocking:
that i destroy my hardware i dont care its cheap stuff and i have plenty of cooling so i am not really worryd about that.

  • Radeon 9500-9700 and KT400 (MSI KT4V)

    hey,
I currently use a Radeon 8500 with an MSI KT4V (KT400 chipset) mobo. Can I safely upgrade to a Radeon 9500/9700 video card -- I understand that these cards are quite power hungry and to be safe I'll also be upgrading my 350W PSU (3.3+5V=216W) to an Antec 400W+ PSU.
Are there any other issues with regards compatibility (I know that there are some issues with Linux and KT400's AGP 3.0/8X support, but I only plan on using WinXP Pro). Would I need the AGP8X/AGP 3.0 to AGP4X/AGP 2.0 hardware hack in order to use my video card (as the current motherboard BIOS doesn't allow me to set the AGP mode)?
Also I've read many posts on Usenet and the MSI forums regarding problems with the earlier versions of the Radeon 9500/9700 cards -- have these issues been addressed in the later revisions of these cards (or the Radeon 9600/9800 series??)
Any other issues with regards BIOS revisions, VIA 4-in-1 drivers, etc that I need to be aware about?
    best,
    vin

    bogeyman,
i'm not pointing fingers at msi or via or ati. all i want to know is whether i can safely use an ati dx9 series video card with my msi/via kt400 mobo. i've read several posts with varied workarounds and am confused as hell. considering that a 9500 would cost around $200, i just want to be safe than sorry. here are some of the workarounds i've read about:
    1. 8x to 4x hardware hack
    2. increasing agp voltage to 1.7-1.8 (still don't know how this is possible as an agp3.0/8x card uses 0.8volts if i remember correctly)
    3. uninstalling the via hyperion agp drivers (does this degrade performance considerably? i know the default winxp drivers don't have fast write capability)
    4. setting agp speed to 4x using powerstrip (provided i can boot )
    5. changing the psu
    6. avoid sharing of IRQs with the radeon video card
so all i'm looking for is a "sure, go ahead and spend $200, but also remember to do this..."
    best,
    vin
ps: i've been running an ati radeon 8500 card for 18 months now and i love it, but sadly it's become a bottleneck in newer games.

  • Quiet cooling solutions on MSI's new RADEON X and GeForce 6 series VGA cards? Which is quietest?

    Hi.
I am, like many people are at the moment I'd imagine, trying to find the ideal graphics solution for running Doom 3. Say what you will about it, but I've played it, and I for one want to get my hands on it in a bad way.
The problem is that my PC doubles as a crude workstation for digital recording, and my condensor mics tend to pick up even very faint sounds. My current system configuration is: P4 C 3.2GHz, ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe mobo, 1GB DDR400 in dual channel, WD 3.6GB Raptor SATA HDD for OS and apps, and two 120GB Maxtor drives in RAID 1 for audio data storage, and the weak link as I call it, my gaming-inept Matrox Millenium 64MB. (Great for work...terrible for games, as expected). All this is running in the Antec Sonata case, and boy is it ever silent. I have to turn off my supposedly silent air filtration system across the room just to hear the PSU fan lol. It's been very good to me.
Doom 3 is the only game I intend to run on this system, simply because, call me crazy, but I am an old school Doom level editing addict, and I actualy like the tight narrow repetitive cooridor style gameplay it lets me enjoy. Furthermore, using editors feels alot like tinkering with my audio software, a feeling I very much savor.
I was going to go for a HIS Excalibur X800 IceQ II because they are supposedly extremely quiet, but darned if I can find one for sale anywhere on the planet. Lol.
So, I have decided to turn to MSI, who have never let me down with respect to near-silence in the past with their VGA cooling solutions.
    So my questions are:
    1) The NX6800 128MB (non-ultra, non-GT variety) is very quiet from what I hear, when the fan is set to the (default) lowest setting. Does the NX6800GT or Ultra feature the same cooling solution, and is it just as quiet, nearly as quiet, or noticeably louder than the plain variety?
    and
    2) I have heard in general that the new RADEON cards are much quieter than the GeForce 6 series cards. Does this hold true for MSI's X800 cards as well, and is the RX800 XT as quiet or quieter than the NX6800 or NX6800GT, etc. ?
Note that I care more about silence than performance. I would be perfectly happy running Doom 3 at 1024x768 at medium or even low settings, as long as I can keep the framerate smooth. I'm not very picky.
I would be truly grateful for anyone's assistance in this matter. Thanks very much in advance.

Thanks for the reply and the info.
Yes, they do run much quieter in 2D. But are there any decible readings anywhere on the net for the stock X800 PRO cooler (in 2d or otherwise)? I ask this because, let's face it, most reviewers tend to focus on the performance rather than the decible levels (as long as the noise level is tollerable to them, they usualy give scores without going into much detail about how loud or silent something is), and being quieter than the competing products doesn't neccesarily mean it's truly quiet.
Basicaly, by quiet, I mean so quiet that it would be hard to hear it unless I get closer than two feet to the tower, and even then, rather faint or even inaudible unless I actualy put my ear up to the tower. My mics are that sensitive. Is the X800 Pro that quiet with the stock reference cooler? I'm thinking it probably isn't, but I could be wrong. The Toxic Pro of course is more than quiet enough, but I have some concerns there.
I would prefer the X800 XT or, at the very least, the plain 6800 128MB, as they both (even the 128MB normal 6800) score higher consistently in Doom 3 benchmarks than the normal X800 Pro (not overclocked). While I'd prefer a 256MB card over a 128MB one, and Sapphire using the VGA Silencer on their Toxic Pro is a nice touch, that card overclocks the memory freq, which is a no-no with Doom 3 from what I've heard. Doom 3 doesn't like overclocked cards, as John carmack said, and that seems to be true given that I've heard lots of people complaining of artifacts with even moderately overclocked cards, be it the memory or core frequency. I could, of course, just not use the "A.P.E." functionality, and run it at stock X800 Pro speed, and with the silence on the Toxic Pro it would be great...but then why not just get the higher performing 128MB 6800 for roughly the same price or less?
    See my dilema? Lol.
Idealy, I'm hoping MSI's X800 XT or their GT or Ultra versions of the 6800 will have quiet cooling solutions. If they do, then it would save me alot of work making up my mind. No overclocking, guaranteed stability, total (or near total) silence, and guaranteed to handle Doom 3 (atleast fairly well... like I said, I'm not too picky), and I wouldn't feel short changed on performance either. As it stands now though, unless I can confirm whether or not they do, I'm going to have to settle for their standard (but extremely quiet) 6800 128MB.
Any further thoughts (anyone?) given the above considerations? Thanks again. I really appreciate it. Good idea on the Toxic Pro, just perhaps not ideal for my situation.
