MSI KT4V-L Random Reboots
Hello everyone.
I have a MSI KT4V-L that randomly reboots!
It can be doing anything from web surfing to F@H. Reboots.
I'm going to attempt a BIOS update in a bit, but here are the specs.
Older Antec Case w/400w SmartPower Single Fan (Rail's are multi-meter tested, +12v is around 12.35 - 12.43v. +5v is around 5.05 - 5.10v, +3.3v is around 3.37-3.41v)
MSI KT4V-L Motherboard (unknown bios version)
AMD Athlon XP 2000+ Palomino, Runs about 58ºC-60ºC load, which is fine for a Pally. Using a Coolermaster Aluminium/Copper HSF. Arctic Silver Ceramique applied.
1x512MB Centon PC2700 @ PC2100, 2.5-3-3-7-1T
Hercules 3D ProphetII GeForce 2 GTS 64MB DDR AGP 4x
Creative Labs Sound Blaster PCI
HP CDWriter 9300
20GB Western Digital 7200RPM
80MM Front Fan, 60MM Rear Fan
Everything seem's fine!
I do have another CPU to test it with (T-Bird 1.0GHz), I do have different RAM (2x256MB Nanya PC2700 Matched), I do have another PSU (Hipro 300w, 200w), HDD (Tons), Optical Drive (tons), etc etc.
So basically I can swap out anything besides the MOBO which has worked great for a long time.
Anyway,
I'm off to flash the BIOS.
I'll post back when I'm done. Wish me luck.

Hello Nick! Long time no see!
The processor temperature is too high. I think you should buy a better heat sink.
The CDRW should be Master at the end of a different cable from the system hard disk. The sound card should be in PCI slot 3, 4 or 5. Furthermore I think the exhaust fan should be better/bigger. That would also quiet down the system considerably.
HEY Fredrik!!!!
How ya been man?
Anyway..
The CD-RW, is, of course, Master . I put the 60MM exhuast fan on 5v cause it's obnoxiously loud. I moved the SB to the last PCI slot, at the bottom of the board, and added a nice PCI-Slot Exhaust Fan a slot above it, to get some warm air out. The ventilation in that case is quite nice now, and it's got tons of vent holes.
After a few hrs of folding, the temp is only 53ºC, so...that's a large difference.
It hasn't restarted in a few hours, either..but I'll probabally be picking up one of these when I have the extra cash. (After the holidays...or as my sisters XMAS preasent haha. )
Or, maybe a CM Aero 7 I think they are, w/those loud arse jet engine coolers.
Anyway, thnx man.

KT4V-L Random Reboot??
This is my first Msi Mobo and so far its not panning out to be my fav. When I first set it all up everything seemed fine, until I started doing some gaming (BF1942 to be precise :D ) Then I became subject to random system reboots.
First thought it was software conflict so I reformatted did a clean XP install and again same problems.
Next thought: Voltage. I checked vCore and others in the Bios and found that under the default "Auto" configuration the VCore occasionally slipped a bit low so I manually set it to 1.6, but still the same problems only less frequently.
Next thought: Bad Graphics card. Considering the majority of the lockups occured during 3d gaming I decided to swap out the 8500 radeon with a 4400 GF4. Still problems.
I've changed memory, I've changed PSU's I've updated drivers still nothing. The only thing that I haven't done is update the Bios.
So my question is will a bios flash cure my woes or is there another course of action to try? After frying a bios chip a few years ago I'm a bit leary of the process so I would be much more open to a different approach if one exists.
Thanx in advance
-RavenIt happens during many other games as well, I just play BF1942 much more often. Although the majority of the problems occur during games Reboots still occur during normal usage including installing software titles and multi-window web surfing, just not as frequently.
I've knocked the FSB down to 100Mhz and it seems to run much more stable, but its pretty rediculous to have to underclock my cpu for stability. I'm using an XP 2100 TBred.
If I can get nothing else to work I will do the Bios update, but I'm a little hand shy at this point. -
[nforce] K7N2 Delta, having massive lock-ups / random reboots.
Hi all, it's been a while since I last needed your wisdom. Anyway, a couple of days ago my machine began to randomly reboot on me, so I went about trying to figure out what is causing the problem. I've cycled out my PSU, my drives, changed BIOS settings, so on and so forth, and it's still happening. System Specs follow:
MSI K7N2 Delta Mobo
Athlon 2800+ Processor
512 x 2 Kingston ValuRAM PC3200
Generic PSU : 3.3v : 28a, 5v: 30a
EVGA Nvidia Geforce 5950 Ultra 256 MB
Seagate 200GB 7200 RPM Hard drive
Lite-on DVD/CDRW Combo burner
Any ideas? I've been dismantling this thing and rebuilding it over and over for about a week now, and nothing has changed. I get the reboots all the time, graphic-intensive and not. I've even had the machine freeze up in the BIOS menu before. Help me please!!!Quote from: sickfallout on 19-May-05, 02:38:49
Alright, thanks a lot guys for all your help!
Hi there..
I'm not sure if you have fixed the problem or not.....but i have the same board and my pc reboot maybe one or two times a day...
and i'm sure it is my Ram, and i also use 2x512mb Kingston Value pc3200
i have tried with 2x512mb crucial pc3200 from my other pc and then there is no problem...
ps. I haven't been writing in english for a long time. -

Random reboots with 975x Platinum v2.1?
As the title says, I have the MSI 975x Platinum v2.1. The system randomly reboots fairly, often, and I'm not sure what could be causing it.
I had this setup for a few weeks, before it locked up overnight and destroyed my memory. Board would halt on the memory initialization during POST, so I sent it back for RMA and now have the replacement. While waiting for the RMA, I bought some memory from a local retailer so I would have something to use. The system would randomly reboot, sometimes in Windows, sometimes while browsing the BIOS menus. I figured the motherboard was damaged too and I sent it back to the retailer for a RMA replacement. I now have the LE version of the board. I also bought a new power supply because I now thought it fried my stuff. Everything put back together, I'm still having random reboots. Here's the system specs:
# Intel Core 2 EE x6800
# MSI 975x Platinum v2.1 LE (BIOS 7.4 official)
# mushkin REDLINE 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1000
# BFG Tech BFGR79256GTOCE GeForce 7900GT 256MB GDDR3
# 1x NEC IDE DVDR, 1x Seagate 200GiB IDE, 1x Seagate 80GiB SATA2, 1x Seagate 400GiB SATA1, 1x Seagate 500GiB SATA2
# Windows XP Pro SP2
# Tagan TG-480-U22 ATX 480W, then mushkin HP-580AP ATX12V / EPS12V 580W
Currently, the system can play games for a couple hours with dnetc running in the background. Yet when I leave it running a torrent (or whatever) overnight, I'll wake up and find it rebooted (after like 6 hours of uptime). I've also gotten it to reboot while just browsing web pages for a few minutes. The northbridge heatsink/heatpipe does get pretty hot, and my room does get warm, so I'll try adding a spare fan tonight. Though, I find this unlikely as the system should be working fine at stock speeds/voltages. Other than that, anyone have any suggestions?I was actually using the Tagan in combined mode until I started having problems (ie, when the RAM died). By then, neither combined nor split appeared to have any helpful effect. I do not know if the Tagan was the cause of my problems, or if this is all something (???) else. I suppose I could try it again, but I'd rather not break my newly RMA'ed stuff. The mushkin power supply has 4x 20a 12v rails, but it appears to automatically determine whether they should be combined or split.
Speaking of the 12v rails. I noticed that the BIOS reports varying values for the 12v. I've seen it at 12.3v, 13.0v, 13.7v, and 14.0v. However, the dualcorecenter software in Windows always reports 12.2v - 12.3v. I have no idea which is accurate. -
Hello guys,
I'm writing because I've a random reboot problem.
My PC randomly reboot even if I've Windows configured to not reboot if found a BSOD. I mean I've disabled reboot automatically option.
The problem occurs randomly. For example, I can play games without problems. But sometimes while I'm listening music, it reboot.
Event log entries are normal, no recorded error.
I ran many test and memory is OK, hard disk OK, video card OK. Processor works stable even when it's overclooked with MSI Dual Core Center.
When I had XP x64 installed, the random reboot problem was very frequent. Now I switched to XP Pro x86 and the random reboots still happen but less frequent than with x64.
I read mobo's manual and I found that this mobo need a power supply of at least 450 watt and mine PSU is 350. Can this be the problem?
My graphic card need at least 350 watt, so here I'm OK. But mobo need 450.
In summary, I'm 100% sure that hard disk, graphic card, ram modules and proccessor are OK Also, this problem happen with or without overclocking processor with MSI Dual Core Center.
Can be a faulty mother board or chipset? Or is probably the PSU of 350 watt?
I looked at capacitors and all appear to be normal.
Help!
Sorry for my English.
Best regards,
André

Hi,
Thanks. I see your links and I noted that all recommended PSU are Enermax a one Corsair.
The model of Enermax I found near to me is this:
Maybe you don't know this specific model, but this looks a good one?
ENERMAX NOISETAKER ATX V 2.0 485W 20+4 PINES
http://www.enermaxusa.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=21_46&products_id=110
+12v1 22A 32A combine pw
+12v2 22A 32A combine pw
+3.3v 32A
Should work, but the main idea is to get a single rail PSU.. read why from the link which i give you before.

Random reboots K8T Neo2 and 3200+
I am still getting the random reboots. I have noticed the most reboots when having alot of windows open in my web browser, both firefox and maxthon. I have done full virus scan and run both adaware and spybot with no change. Right now I am using 1 windows with my browser and no problem. I can also play games that have high system requirements, AAO and BF2 neither causes any problems. Anyone have a answer or clue to what is happening? Core center says my cpu temp is running what I call wide 37-51 degrees. The fan speed changes alot also. Is there a way to lock the fan speed and still use core center? I don't remeber but think my Intel and 865PE Neo2 setup the fan speed stayed constant.
Thanks

MSI KT4V with usb+bios problem!
hi i have an msi kt4v motherboard: http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/m...ODEL=MS-6712...
and it wont startup my keyboard until windows loads.
i even updated my bios to the vary latest one....in the bios list there is a bios with this details:
BIOS Type AMI® BIOS File Size 514KB
Version 1.7 Update date 2002-12-26
Update Description -Support AMD Barton XP2800+ (FSB333) CPU
-Fixed system sometimes will have IDE CRC error
-Fixed D-bracket2+USB keyboard, cannot use keyboard on DOS mode.
Special note ,
Download 6712v17.exe
that suppose to fix my prob. its not the latest though, the latest is 1.8. i updated to 1.8 directly, i didnt upgrade from 1.7 though, but from an earlier version. is anyone else experiencing this problem? whats strange is that it will work if i clear the cmos and reboot. but then if i restart it wont work. do i have to upgrade to 1.7 then to 1.8?I have the same problem too. My keyboard\'s cable failed and I replaced it but made it USB only, after the later bios releases it stopped working until windows loaded.
Legacy support is turned on to no avail. I've been keeping a ps/2 keyboard handy for when I have to get into bios or some other command level operation. -
MSI Ti4800SE and MSI KT4V motherboard incompatible?
Yesterday I bought an MSI Ti4800SE to replace a GeForce2. It booted up fine and Windows detected it and installed the drivers. However, on rebooting, the monitor went blank and there was a series of beeps.
The computer would not start. I tried taking out all the other cards and tried the video card in 2 other computers but all I got was the beeps. I took the card back and got a refund as they had no more in stock.
Is the video card incompatible with the motherboard for some reason? Did I somehow cause the card to die? Should I buy another or will the same thing happen again?
Any help would be much appreciated.
My system is
MSI KT4V motherboard
Athlon 2500
512Mb Kingston RAM
SB Live
Network card
56k Modem
2 hard drives
DVD ROM
Mitsumi CD writer
350W PSU
Windows 98SE
Thanks in advanceThanks very much for your advice - looks like I need to spend yet more money then!
But do you think I damaged the card by not supplying enough current, bearing in mind that it booted OK the first time? Or was it not damaged at all? -
MSI KT4V (6712) and type of clock generator
Hi!
I try to use SpeedFan for dynamic change of CPU/FSB/PCI/AGP speed. But to do it, I must know one thing: what model of clock generator (clockgen?) in used on my MB, MSI KT4V (6712). Someone know it or have ability to check it (mainboard in my PC is unacessable)? Probably (?) it is ICS 94xxx or ICS 95xxxx, small chip near AGP slot. I've try to use diagnostic aplications like AIDA32, SciSoftSandra and analyze MB images, but without success. If anyone could help me, I'll be really very gratefully
Thanks in advance-
Greetings
Artur ([email protected])Hi!
Well, I think it is not so danger. First - MSI FuzzyLogic can change FSB/Vcore/Vagp on-line, so it is possible and secure, second - I've try to find clock generator using random types of it. Results - MB hang up, but after PowerOF/PowerOn starts and works fine :-) I've always says that KT4V is a really powerfull model :-)
I see that you have the same MB as mine - could you do me a favour and check clock generator type on our KT4V board?
It will be really helpfull for me ...
Greetings

MSI KT4V-L User Review.
MSI KT4V-L User Review.
The price of the mother board suprised me for what it was it seemd very cheep only £81 anyway,
I removed my old board and started to set the KT4V-L up and found it easyer than any other motherboard i have used.
I did not have to ajust any jumpers on the mainboard because everythign is in the bios also booting is a lot faster because
the boot is bypassed you now hit F11 and select your boot device. After i had set the bios to my preferd settings i
installed windows, the instalation went smooth and fast, When i was into Windows (XP) and had installed the motherboardes
drivers you really notice the speed of the board and the VIA KT400 chipset and is also very very stable, basicly this
motherboard is to good the only problems i found are with the Onbored Lan and the AC97 Audio. The Onbored Lan is good but
with my router when i need to restart it i have to unplug the system because when shut down the Lan is still active but i
also tested it with no router connected and had the same problem sometimes on first boot the net wont work but you can just
reboot and its fine also there is a Flash avalable for the lan option but i dont know if this prblem is in it. The sound
is very good but if you dont install windows and the drivers in a serten way the sound may not work, this is how i did mine.
Windows XP
Chipset Drivers
Service Pack *Latest*
Sound Drivers
USB 2.0
DirectX *latest*
Graphix
Mouse
Lan
(Note!) Even though after installing some drivers it does not ask to reboot it is best to!
And mine works fine
All in this motherboard is superb and as i used a MSI motherboard *MS-6340* for 2 years befor this upgrade all i am seeing
is good things well done MSI and keep up the good work.

WIN2k, KT3 Ultra Deluxe Board, and Random Reboots
OK.
First off, let me say, the KT3 Ultra board (Deluxe) is a very, VERY nice board, and I love it with all my heart. I'm running Windows 2000 and I get great performance on games, and just all around everything.
But, for some reason, I keep getting random reboots, and I have a hunch it has to do with the 'board.
Here are my specs:
AMD Athlon XP 1600+
PNY GeForce 4 TI 4600
MSI KT3 Ultra Board (Deluxe)
512 megs of DDR RAM
Windows 2000 Professional, Service Pack 2 (all updates)
Maxtor 60 GB HD
Western Digital 60 GB HD
HP CD-ROM Drive
Genuine DVD-ROM Drive
NetGear FA310TX NIC card
SoundBlaster Live!
Any ideas, folks? There can be a lot of reasons why you get reboots, so difficult to point to one thing that will solve it. Your PSU is big, so we can rule out lack of power.
I presume you have fiddled with the BIOS settings? What are your advanced chipset settings? In my experience lockups and reboots are caused by memory problems, so set memory to "by user" and on the slowest setings at first.
My GF4 gave reboots because the AGP slot shared IRQ11 with my networkcard. Relocating the networkcard to another PCI slot solved it. MY GF2 card didn't show this problem. So check if you have shared resources.
Take out all other cards and see if it improves the situation.
Do you have one or two memory sticks. In case of 2, try everything with one stick and also with the other to see if one of the sticks is the problem. -
Ok, hopefully someone can help me here....
I have been having random reboots to my system that I have been unable to track down, I have had these for quite awhile, but it seems like lately they are increasing in frequency. Tonight after a reboot I went looking in my event viewer, hoping to see why it shut down, and found this in the event log (you may need to open image in new window to see clearly):
As you can see every time just before there is an eventlog (event 6005) there are three events: two nvata (event 2) events and one Tcpip (event 4201)
The event 6005 is a windows event stating:
This event is written at system startup after the user initiates an expected restart or shutdown by clicking Start and then clicking Shut Down, or by pressing CTRL+ALT+DELETE and then clicking Shut Down.

Ok, so that event is simply indicating that the machine is starting back up. It says that someone clicked Shut Down, but I know that this did not happen.
The event 4201 states:

So needless to say I am a little bewildered, most times when I see the nvata error listed, it seems to be related to some kind of SATA problem, but the TCPIP event seems to point to some kind of networking problem.
I hope someone can help, below are my system specs (edited from dxdiag).
Also the two SATA drives are not in a raid....

As for the CPU temp, I have the MSI Dual Core center running on the desktop, and have never had a problem with overheating, on either the MB or the Video card. I can even set it to the "cool" profile that will underclock the processor and still run into the rebooting problem, so I don't think that is the cause. Also I built this computer August of last year, so I wouldn't think any of the hardware would be acting up yet, but then again.... I will try to get the memtest run tomorrow (sleep and work being my biggest hinderer) and I will get them posted.
Thanks Again

Random Reboots with dual channel
Hi,
I just bought yesterday the following system.
Intel P4 2.8 Northwood HP enabled
MSI 865PE/Neo 2 Platinum Edition
Maxtor Diamond Star 9 200 GB 8MB Cache 7200rpm
Elixir 2x512MB DDR 400 CL3
Toshiba DVD 16x
Creative Geforce 4 Ti 4400 128MB
Logitech Cordless Keyboard connected and a logitech cordless optical mouse
19 inch belinea monitor.
The power supply is a no name product LPK2-30 with the following specs.
420W
3.3V 28A
+5V 36A
-5V 0.5A
+12V 17A
-12V -0.8A
It says that is P4 ready, i know which does mean nothing
Operating System:
Windows XP Professional SP1
All Hotfixes and Updates applied
Newest drivers for all the system parts
The errors during the windows crashes are irq not less or equal or page fault, which looks for me pretty much like a problem with the memory.
Ok what i tried so far.
Single channel with 512MB works fine.
Single channel with 1GB works fine except one strange thing restarting the machine and it got stuck during the bios loading worked fine after i pressed reset.
Dual channel 1/3 1 GB get random reboots.
Dual channel 2/4 1 GB even worse but i think at this point my newly installed died.
I tried to set memory voltage from 2.65 up to 2.8 but did not change the behaviour.
memtest with one modules in slot 1 no errors
memtest with dual channel 1/3 1 gb no errors running 30 minutes
i will try now a memtest with the second single module in memslot 3.
No MAT or dot ram settings are 3,3,3.
I am bit running out of ideasö
before i forget i updated the bios from 3.3 to 3.5 but did not change the problems.
Maybe you guys have some ideas what else can i try.
thx a lot in advance. i hope i provided all informations which are necessary.
greetings faxeHi,
i tried a few more things which make confident that i have the problem narrowed down to the memory.
i tried to install windows again with only using the third memory slot single channel and it worked fine.
now i tried to go down with the memory speed to ddr333 and using dual channel and so far that seems to work too.
so i think i will go for other memory.
if you think i am wrong please correct me
greetings markus

IPhoto 9.1.1 the next chapter
Further to my previous post, iPhoto 9.11 will not open again but is still in applications with all my photos. MBP 10.6.6. A few things seems to have gone pear-shaped since upgrading to 10.6.6, MBP boots slowly, runs slower, is slow to get on the net,
