MSI KT4V MS-6712 Ver-10a

Hello,
I have a friends-Father in law's computer that I know nothing about. The mainboard is listed above. When I first got it, it didnt boot at all. I cleaned the inside out and took the mainboard out becuse the person who put it together did get all the connections under the grounding tabs by the network and USB connectors. I replaced the cpu fan cuz it was growing badly. ;-)
Anyway, now the machine is booting fine but Im not sure of the Freq. Voltage Control settings.

CPU Ratio??
CPU Vcore??
Also, it tells me that the cpu fan is not running(which it did that before I replaced the fan). I can hit N to continoue with no problems. I was wondering if there was a fix for that?

AMD-XP 2600+ and MSI KT4V MS-6712 MB

Can somebody help me pls? I do have a MSI KT4V MS-6712 Motherboard and an AMD Athlon XP 2600 processor. According the CPU RATIO settings table I should put the ratio 16 and the FSB on 133, but I don't have a 16. I only have a 15 and if I use the 15 instead of the 16 I do get a performance of 733 Mhz. When I use the 12.5/13 the system says it's a XP-2000+, but I'm still missing some Mhz. I did already upgrade the BIOS to version 1.8 but no results.
Pls help me, I'm getting crazy! ;(

I changed it into 166 Mhz and now it's acting as a XP 2600+.

KT4V MS-6712 ver. 2.0

Hi!! Yesterday I bought a new motherboard KT4V! It turned out that the bios version was 3.0!!!! What the f***? The latest Bios version on Msi Bios page is 1.8! The picture also isn't similar to my motherboard. But I'm sure that my motherboard is KT4V because in the manual there is a picture of the mothrboard and it is the same! So where is the webpage of this (new) motherboard????

On the motherboard sayis I have MS-6712 Ver: 2.0. I scaned the picture of the manual for you, but I don't know how to post it. The problem is that I cannot run my Athlon XP200+ (T-bred) on it. It always crashes! I tried the CPU on the old KT4V v1.8 and it works. This motherboard also has some jumpers to set the CPU frequency. Only the first page of the manual is the same as my motherboard, everithing else is simmilar to old KT4V, even BIOS!! Bios is very simmilar to the one one the old KT4V, just the FSB frequency setting is different. Now I messed up everithing because I updated the BIOS on the new motherboard to 1.8. Is it possible to go back to previus ver of BIOS? Does the seller have the new BIOS for Ver: 2.0 and above?

KT4V MS-6712 VER:1.0A just a printing error?

I own a MSI KT4VL, the one that uses the KT400 chipset not the KT400A. Between PCI slots 1 and 2 it has printed:
KT4V
However the printed version between PCI slots 2 and 3 is:
MS-6712 VER: 1.0A
Which fits the image MSI shows for the KT4AV. As an extra data, it came with BIOS version 1.8.
My question: is just a printing error, some intermediate version or anything else?

The KT3V also uses the MS-6712 ver:1.0A circuit board so most likely it is shared between the three models in order to reduce costs. Bios version 1.8 is shared by the KT4V and KT3V but not the KT4AV which uses version 5.0. If your board is running stable I would not worry about it.

MSI KT4V Motherboard not recognizing my FX5200

I just started building an old computer for a friend. Im taking parts from two older computers and putting them into one. Im taking my friends processor, hard drive, dvd drive, floppy, and ram. Im putting that into my old PC case with my old geforce fx 5200, my old MSI KT4v Ms-6712 ver:1 AGP 8x motherboard. I used to use that old case with that motherboard and video card and it worked fine. Now all the sudden, possible from moving the motherboard from different PCs and such, when i put everything into the case it all seemed to work fine. Except that I'm not even getting a signal from my video card. I have a 350watt power supply that i know is sufficient enough, but my monitor isn't getting a signal from the video card. I tried using an old geforce 2 from a friends PC to test it and it doesn't work in that PC either, so i've ruled out it being a problem with the video card, because my fx5200 works fine in my other friends PC. ??? I'm wondering if their is a problem with my motherboards AGP slot not being able to detect my FX 5200. I know that moving a different processor to a new motherboard requires the reinstallation of windows, but i should be getting something on the monitor. Any suggestions or helpful information would be nice. I've searched the internet and google for quite some time and i havn't found any helpful information about possible broken AGP slots or the motherboard not even getting a signal through the AGP card. Help would be nice- If i left out any important information please let me know, thanks

Well, heres what i tried to do. I tried clearing the cmos. Going by these instructions
1-touch PSU to clear static
2-remove the motherboard battery
3-switch Jbat1 jumper from 1-2 to 2-3
4- wait atleast 10 minutes
5-switch jumper back
6-reinsert the battery
7-boot up etc.
I did all that but still no luck. The screen was still blank when i booted it up. I didn't unplug everything before resetting CMOS(by that i mean the harddrive, floppy, and DVD, but i did unplug it from wall and everything), because it didn't say to in a MSI support page. I did try to boot up with the barebones setup though after resetting cmos but still no luck. Just the CPU/heatsink, motherboard, one stick of ram, and video card. Still nothing happening on the screen. I do have an extra power supply and im going to try putting that in next. The one that is currently in there was used in my friends PC and was working fine. Ill give my larger power supply a try though. Ill post back later about if the power supply did anythiing or not. Thanks
p.s.-Before you mentioned the standoffs and im going to look under the motherboard as well to see if their are too many or too little. The testing continues....

No Sound - KT4V (MS-6712)with Win 7 32-bit

MOBO ... MSI KT4V(ms-6712) WITH WinXP is fine but I can get no sound from Win7 on second partition which is otherwise OK. Is there a driver I can use ?

MSI KT4V (6712) and type of clock generator

I try to use SpeedFan for dynamic change of CPU/FSB/PCI/AGP speed. But to do it, I must know one thing: what model of clock generator (clockgen?) in used on my MB, MSI KT4V (6712). Someone know it or have ability to check it (mainboard in my PC is unacessable)? Probably (?) it is ICS 94xxx or ICS 95xxxx, small chip near AGP slot. I've try to use diagnostic aplications like AIDA32, SciSoftSandra and analyze MB images, but without success. If anyone could help me, I'll be really very gratefully

Well, I think it is not so danger. First - MSI FuzzyLogic can change FSB/Vcore/Vagp on-line, so it is possible and secure, second - I've try to find clock generator using random types of it. Results - MB hang up, but after PowerOF/PowerOn starts and works fine :-) I've always says that KT4V is a really powerfull model :-)
I see that you have the same MB as mine - could you do me a favour and check clock generator type on our KT4V board?
It will be really helpfull for me ...

NO SOUND - using the MSI KT4V 6712

I have recently formatted my hard drives and installed MS Windows XP Pro +SP1 and also installed a new case.
Soon as i turned it on the sound didnt work.
I then tried almost everything inside windows to try to get the sound drivers working but to no success...
I have installed loads of different drivers - AC 97 Audio ones
Tried different speakers and headphones but it still doesnt work
Could it be something on the motherboard as there are two wires hanging around???

Found that the problem was that the motherboard needed some jumpers on it to be able to channel the audio to the rear ports (if not using a front audio panel!!!!)
Just to let everyone know download the manual of the motherboard from this site!!!, it will tell u on their

MSI KT4V with usb+bios problem!

and it wont startup my keyboard until windows loads.
i even updated my bios to the vary latest one....in the bios list there is a bios with this details:

that suppose to fix my prob. its not the latest though, the latest is 1.8. i updated to 1.8 directly, i didnt upgrade from 1.7 though, but from an earlier version. is anyone else experiencing this problem? whats strange is that it will work if i clear the cmos and reboot. but then if i restart it wont work. do i have to upgrade to 1.7 then to 1.8?

I have the same problem too. My keyboard\'s cable failed and I replaced it but made it USB only, after the later bios releases it stopped working until windows loaded.
Legacy support is turned on to no avail. I've been keeping a ps/2 keyboard handy for when I have to get into bios or some other command level operation.

Driver for KT3V (ms6712 ver 10a)

I have a MSI KT3V Mainboard. It shows "ms6712 Ver 10a". The network controller shows to be on a Via VT6103 Tahoe chip.
I have updated the OS to XP Pro (from XP Home) and can't get the network controller driver. Bios shows no onbaord Lan setting but I know this was working before the OS update. I've chased all the MSI / Driver sites / etc...and can't find a correct driver. Can anyone help ??

Yes, I've looked there and downloaded about every driver on that page. Because I can't get net access I'm putting the drivers on a USB flash drive and trying to load them onto to the other machine. FYI those drivers match the "VT6103" part of my board but seem to be built on the Rhino platform...I have a Tahoe platform. DOn;t know if it makes any difference ??
BIOS has not been flashed.
Device Manager sees a Network Controller that has a big yellow ? and a yelow exclaimation mark. That's the device I'm trying to get working again.
In BIOS there is an OnChip IDE Controller and an OnChip USB Controller but no where do I see anything about Lan support.
I know this system worked before I formatted the HDD and did a clean install of XP Pro. I only need to be able to get to the net and then I can do all my MS updates, driver updates, etc...
Can't get to the net without some kind of network support. I have a Linksys wireless card in the puter but no can see....

there are some problems,
1) i am unable to get the pictures on my TV screen,
i dont know how to connect the TV-OUT connector to my TV.
2) my system was showing athlon XP 1500+ before but after i visited the AMD's Forum i got the clue to make it 2200+ by increasing the FSB setting from 100 to 133, now it is showing 2200+.
3) i have seen this line in one thread here in this forum that
(* do not install or uninstall any VIA AGP drivers, including those in VIA 4-in-1 drivers...) , if i should not install this driver then will it be OK not installing this driver...?
4) (KT4V BIOS version 1.7 and above fixes the CRC errors (IDE problems that cause crashes) ) , and i have this new motherboard KT4AV with BIOS v( ) ,
but i am having this problem as the system crashes and hangs or blue screen appears and does not support this harddisk, and i have to use a samsung tool to downgrade the UDMA mode of the HDD to 100 MBPS,
(This program will change the UDMA mode of all UDMA 133-supporting Samsung drives in the system)and the samsung says thatthe cause is...
Cause
This issue is caused when the data transfer rate between the motherboard (or host system) and HDD is erroneously set beyond the maximum data transfer capability of host, 100MB/sec. Under this environment, the host system fails to read data correctly from HDD resulting in unsuccessful OS installation.
Please note that this issue is caused by the incompatibility between the motherboard and HDD(s), not by the faulty Samsung hard disk drive.
Now should i have to use my system at 100 MBPS speed as my HDD supports 133 MBPS...?
5) what is the use of the (IrDA Infrared Module Header: JIR1), how can i use it?
6) and the last question is this board has (6-channel software audio codec ), how to use it? ans i don't have the S-Bracket as i did'nt get it with my motherboard, and i want to use the 6 channel output from my PC , please help me how to use it ...

3) Who on earth might have written that? But I suggest you enter 'Safe Mode' when installing 4-1 drivers. You had better have them.

5) Someone must confirm this, but I think its for remote networking.
6) If you have integrated or other sound card, drivers, cables and speakers there is no problem. See the manual, please.

KT4V (MS-6712) hangs on "Checking NVRAM.."

Hi All. I am using a KT4V (MS-6712) with an Ath.XP 2.1GHz and one PNY 512MB 333MHz DDR.
The PC has been working perfectly since I purchased the KT4V three weeks ago. (by the way I am *so* impressed with this MSI MB - my first MSI!)
Now, on power-up POST hangs at "Checking NVRAM.."
If RESET is pressed, machine boots through POST normally and runs perfectly again.
I'm concerned the NVRAM error may be signs of bad things to come - can someone suggest where to start diagnosing the problem? Test RAM throughoutly with some utility, etc.

Hallo. I have a MSI KT4V-L,Socket A - MS-6712 - 8x AGP- mit Audio - mit LAN , and from bios can't detect the Hdd(IBM, 40 Gb) and my Cd rom.....the option is set on AUTO, but all I can see is NOT INSTAL.....so the MB can't detect my HDD (with is 100% functional, I use the same system as before, but with this new MB).
I'm waiting suggestions.

...wrong forum...this is for the AMD64 VIA/AMD based board...
...check the jumpers on the drives...using one cable?..set both drives to Cable Select with the optical drive on the middle cable connector and the HDD on the end connector...

MSI KT4V-L don't detect HDD

Hallo. I’ve tried also only with the Hdd, without Cdrom, with the jumper in several position(master, auto detect..)..I've tried IDE 1; IDE2...but no results...I was thinking about a special setup, or a jumper on the MB....or is possible that the MB is unfunctional????

Just finished a lot of research into the same problem. This is what's up with this. The MB BIOS polls the HDD firmware to make ID and the post continues, but with this MSI MB it wont recognize the HDD, thats because in this case the HDD sucks. I have two IBM DTLA-307045 40GB drives and the firmware for all these drives(and lots of other IBM's) are bad.These links will let you ID and Flash new firmware for the drives.

BUT your problems will not be completely over. The BIOS for the MB still has trouble recognizing the HDD firmware, remember the firmware for the drive didn't even exist when the BIOs was created. I flashed the BIOS on the MB to the latest revision level and it still don't like those IBM drives, even though the drives with their new firmware are now AOK. I don't think it ever will unless MSI includes the new IBM firmware ID in the BIOS. An older product like this its not likely. If we want any kind of reliability we are going to have to get new drives/MB or both.

The price of the mother board suprised me for what it was it seemd very cheep only £81 anyway,
I removed my old board and started to set the KT4V-L up and found it easyer than any other motherboard i have used.
I did not have to ajust any jumpers on the mainboard because everythign is in the bios also booting is a lot faster because
the boot is bypassed you now hit F11 and select your boot device. After i had set the bios to my preferd settings i
installed windows, the instalation went smooth and fast, When i was into Windows (XP) and had installed the motherboardes
drivers you really notice the speed of the board and the VIA KT400 chipset and is also very very stable, basicly this
motherboard is to good the only problems i found are with the Onbored Lan and the AC97 Audio. The Onbored Lan is good but
with my router when i need to restart it i have to unplug the system because when shut down the Lan is still active but i
also tested it with no router connected and had the same problem sometimes on first boot the net wont work but you can just
reboot and its fine also there is a Flash avalable for the lan option but i dont know if this prblem is in it. The sound
is very good but if you dont install windows and the drivers in a serten way the sound may not work, this is how i did mine.
