MSI KT8 Neo2 F board, upgraded cpu and used MSIs Live Update, now unstable BSODs

I've had this mobo for almost 2 yrs now with an AMD 3500+ cpu and recently upgraded that to the FX-55. To do that, it required using MSIs Live Update and needed newer chipset drivers. It has the latest bios according to Live Update.
It took a few attempts but finally booted w/o BSODs and has been running for over 1 week BUT is still not right. It's sometimes unstable and will crash (BSOD) just by starting up a browser. I had the bios settings at "optimized" and have tryed a few other changes but so far, I'm not gaining. Last night I couldn't keep it running more than a few minutes w/o it crashing.
I have the MSI manual for my board and plan to spend some more time playing with it tonight but might anyone here have any ideas? It's not running hot (reads 50C) and was stable before with the 3500+. I've tryed "Fail Safe" bios settings too but nothing's better that way either.
I'm hoping that someone here has a few ideas?

After initially running this with the new cpu, I'd see the "searching for MAC address" message and it'd hang there on boot. Someone told me that was because it was trying to do a network boot, selected in the boot sequence SO I've unselected that and that's when things got worse (oddly as it shouldn't IMO). One can select the 3+ boot devices (floppy, USB, CD-DVD rom, HDD) and it use to see the HDDs (2) before but now I'm not (only floppy and CD-DVD rom) and if I unselect the ethernet option (boot other devices), it fails to boot at all and says "insert floppy" as if I was installing Win98 way back when (running XP Pro btw). Something's definately not right with my bios selections.

Let's go back to basics here for a bit. Start by posting your complete specs in your signature like we do. Make sure that your PSU values are also in there.
Let's also look at some tests to help determine where the issue is. I would recommend Memtest86+, OCCT, Prime95, and 3DMarks as a great first series. Also get CPUz and lets see what it shows for CPU and Memory.
If we can get an idea where things begin to fall apart then maybe we can determine if this is driver, hardware or some other issue without having to make the flash happen first. The reason why I am avoiding the flash at this point is that if things are mostly working maybe there is some other cause than Bios. We know that some FX's work with 3.x and some that don't. So I would like to try a bit of checking before we dive into a flash that could cause more issues than it solves if we get this wrong. As things are mostly working now we can assume at least for the moment that maybe the flash is not needed. If we don't see anything during testing that sheds some light then maybe we go ahead with the flash.
That is if your willing to take some time to try and sort this out and maybe learn some stuff in the process. It is of course your call and we will respect whichever decission you make here.

I'm not sure of the chipset so I might be in the wrong forum but I have a (now) 2 year old MSI KT8 Neo2 F (I think F/FIR?...NOT a dual core). I built the PC 2 years ago and it's been doing fine with a AMD 3500+ CPU.
I had wanted an FX-55 since those days and they're now very affordable from Newegg ($139 shipped) so I bought one. According to all written info that I've seen, my motherboard should easily support the FX-55:

So, it arrives and I installed it but now the PCs not booting up. The CPU fan's turning, it's trying but all I'm getting is a black screen. The first time I tryed to start it, after a few seconds it shut off. I unplugged the PC, removed the cpu to double check everything but found nothing wrong. It's installed correctly. After seeing that I'm still not seeing anything on my screen the second start attempt, I unplugged it.
Now, I remember that I had problems 2 years ago when I swapped out different hard drives. It wouldn't boot unless I reset the CMOS jumper (I believe that's the correct term?). Might that be what I need to do now to swap CPUs?
Anyone else run into this?

You have a K8T Neo2 (6702E) and you need to flash bios to support this cpu. Use version 9.3 or 9.2 (I prefer 9.3 myself, since I ran into trouble with the 9.2, but most people are fine using both). Try starting your system in single channel (using only one memory module in the slot closest to the CPU. Flash bios using a bootable floppy with CD-Rom support or bootable CD with rom-file and flash utility on CD.
Flashing is at your own risk always.

PS: Please clear CMOS after flashing. Don't forget to disconnect from AC when you reset cmos.

After installing 1.5 with the msi, can I then zip it up and use that version on another computer? I've done this successfully already for my needs etc. Just not sure if this was "kosher" etc.
I've installed Java JRE/JDK 1.5 using:
jdk-1_5_0_12-windows-i586-p.exe
I installed it on computer A at C:\jdk1.5.0_12. I then zipped it up and ran it successfully on computer B for my Tomcat service needs. It went seamlessly. However, did I over look any risks doing it this way. I did it this way because the MSI prompts a user for a install path. I need it for both the JRE/JDK to use C:\jdk1.5.0_12. Zipping up my installed version prevents that pesky user-error stuff/support tickets due to user error stuff.
Granted, I'd rather have users fill out a support ticket due to a typo then erroneously think I was successful at repackaging Java for our needs etc. Follow?
And therefore, was it ok to zip it up and port it?

Underclocking CPU and using only AC with battery attached

Is it possible to underclock the CPU and use only AC but with the battery attached to the MBP? If the magsafe connector is unplugged the MBP can switch instantly to use the battery.
There are many times when an underclocked MBP is enough, like when browsing the web, writting and listening to music. But using only AC with no battery is risking losing information.
And, if it's possible it can even be an option in the menubar (along with turning off-on WiFi and bluetooth). This way, if more power is needed (ie: running Corel's Painter X), it's a matter of just click underclocking-off.

A question remains: Why do you want to do this?
Do you want to maximise the life of your battery?
Do you want to develop sophisticated software that cares about power usage?
Do you care about the planet and want to minimise your ecological footprint?
As far as "an AC adapter that takes the place of the battery and can power the MBP with enough energy" - it is supplied with your computer and is the common or garden variety 85W powerbrick. Furthermore, when the AC is connected "the battery will never be used when not necessary" (only if the power demands are sufficiently high that the power adapter can't supply all the power required) - just as you desire.
Just to make it clear - when the AC is connected the computer draws its power from the AC first, regardless of whether the battery is in place or not.
I think you will achieve what you want by using the MBP normally, as designed, and not doing anything special. I think it is designed to do exactly what you seem to want.

I know how to te upgrade, but when i upgrade the bios te computer don't working, only do 4 piii!! (the sound). I don't know what can i do. I tried with all bios posibble, until the beta, where is the bios's beta?

la semana pasada tuve el mismo problema con una board similar. Intenté con varias marcas genéricas de memoria y no activaba el dual channel. Actualicé la bios a la versión 9.2 de acuerdo con una recomendación que encontré en este foro: 1º. Coloca una sola memoria en el slot1 y actualiza la Bios a la v. 9.2. Una vez se actualice la Bios apaga el PC y... 2º coloca los dos módulos de memoria, el primero en el slot 2 y el otro en el slot 4 y ya verás que funciona. (Last week i've had same issue with that board. Update the Bios to 9.2 version according to this forum: 1st. populate first slot with one memory stick and run the Bios update. Tunr off your PC and... 2nd populate slot 2 and 4 and you are ready.)
El único problema que he encontrado con esta BIOS es que la tarjeta de video Gcube 9600XT presenta algunos saltos en los juegos. (The only issue about that bios version it's the GeCube Radeon 9600XT that JUMPING in all games.)

[Athlon64] MSI K8T800Pro Neo2 FISR - 6702E - higher CPU compatability

I have the above motherboard and have been running this with a 3000+ Winchester core CPU for a year now with no problems at all (touch wood!) - it does everything I want especially that now I have upgraded to 1.5 GB RAM.
It will be my intention to upgrade to a higher spec CPU later in 2006 ... when prices come down sufficiently - what I wanted to know was whether others had any expereince of using the higher end CPUs specifically on this motherboard ... 3700+ and up?
I know that MSI have tested this board as OK with everything up to the DUAL Core X2 4800+ (with the BIIOS update of course), but I was curious as to whether anyone had first hand experience of running the higher CPUS (even FX51, 53, 55, 57) on this particular board.
It is not my intention to upgrade to an SLI or crossfire motherboard ... as my MSI 6600GT will do fine for a long while yet ... anyway I only want to upgrade a bit at a time!

Well there have been several of us with each of the higher CPU's Both single and dual core. The only one's at the moment that we are not real sure on are the socket 939 opterons. Thoase may need a Bios Update. The only other ones to avoid are the lower end Semperon 64 cores as they have proven to be a problem at the moment. A Bios upgrade may fix those as well.

I have a MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum and I cant upgrade to BIOS 1.4. I have tried everything and cannot get Windows XP to boot with BIOS 1.4.
I have reset the BIOS, set defaults, cleared the battery etc but when I load BIOS 1.4 (from a 98SE an ME boot dish and even from the Live Update?
The only solution is to rebuild Windows after loading BIOS 1.4???

Well, I have that problem, too. I think the reason is a new RAID-BIOS-Version built in the BIOS-Update. I´ve tried the beta-versions V1.51 and V1.5X, too - but they won´t run anyway.
My WinXp hangs while booting (before the WINDOWS-XP-Logo appears, or while fading in...). I cannot reinstall Windows completely because, when I install the 2 raid-drivers, the installation routine hangs before the licensetext - when I don´t install the drivers i cannont install on the raid-drive (beacuase the installation routine shows 2 hdds).
I think, a new driver will solve this problem, but I don´t know where to find it....

Problem in Server Admin: cpu and network graphs not updated or empty after lion server update

Just for archive purpouses because i've already solved that!
After upgrading from OSX Server 10.7 to 10.7.1 my CPU and Network graphs in Server Admin stop being updated.
In 24h the graphs where blank (disk usage graph seem to keep working).
First i read about "what is the application responsible for this"; it's called ServerPerfLog, and you can see if it's running that way:
     # ps ax | grep ServerPerf
If you don't see anything else than your own "grep", that means that no application is running, no data is being collected.
     41324 s000 R+     0:00.00 grep ServerPerf
A positive response for this (meaning that the service is running) should be something like that (2 lines: your grep and the service app itself):
     94   ?? Ss     0:04.71 /usr/libexec/ServerPerfLog
     41344 s000 R+     0:00.00 grep ServerPerf
Later i read about "where is the config file for this service app", and you can find it here:
     /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.ServerPerfLog.plist
If you edit this config file, check that the "Key > Disabled" is set to "False"
     # vi /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.ServerPerfLog.plist
        <key>Disabled</key>
        <false/>
After that, i try to launch the service that updates this graphs again, by hand, performing the following command:
     # sudo launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.ServerPerfLog.plist
And the service got launch!!! yeeeepa!! i see a first update in graph data.
Also the "ps" query reply that the service was running!!
The bad things came a day after, when i saw that the graphs stop again....
I check if the service was running executing again the "ps" command, and that show me that the service was stopped again; no ServerPerfLog process was running.
But r e l a x, because the process hang because of a permissions problem.
You should know, I run "Repair permissions" within "Disk Utilities" over the running system disk, eeee... voila!
I hope that helps someone to get his fancy graphs back!

After iTunes upgrade, calendar and bookmarks no longer update during sync

After completing the most recent iTunes upgrade, my phone will complete a backup and seems to go through the sync process. However, the calendar items and bookmarks will not update with any changes that were applied in Outlook or Internet Explorer. Also, previously, I would receive a "syncing calendar" message (or something similar) during the process, and that no longer occurs.

I installed 10.6.8 through Live Update, now Snow Leopard doesn't start at all! And I don't even have my Leopard DVD here! What should I do?

Two days I ago I installed 10.6.8 through Live Update. But, since then, I can't open Snow Leopard! Everytime I got the grey page and the request to reboot turning the Macbook off and then on. I could use Safe Mode, used Utility to repair all the processes and deleted any cache but nothing, tried a procedure of renaming the kernel found on the net and now I can't even open the Safe Mode. I don't even have here my Snow Leopard dvd! What should I do? Called the customer service twice but not that great help. Can I try to use another Snow Leopard dvd (i.e. from a friend of mine)? Should I format the partition and reinstall it? I'm really angry about this, got this Macbook since less than one year and it crashes after an autoupdate, probably forcing me to 700 km x 2 trip to get that dvd (and of course those of any other app I got?!)? Grrr.

If you've been doing things like that, you probably destroyed your system. You need the installation disc that came with the machine. Another one won't work, unless it's for the same model.

It failed to boot because of incompatible third-party system modifications that you installed. We know that, because it started in safe mode. Then, instead of removing the modifications, which would have solved your problem, you did something that immobilized the machine completely. You should not have updated the OS without having an installation disc available, and you shouldn't be using a computer at all without backups. Apple can't protect you from the consequences of making bad choices.

MSI GT660 Upgrade CPU and/or GPU

I've searched the forum(and net) for this question but came up empty. Is it possible to upgrade MSI GT660's CPU(current i7-740QM) and/or GPU(current GTX-285M)? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Any idea if GPU on it is MXM 3.0 B(like on GX660) or a different type? If its possible - which(better) CPU/GPU are available that would fit?

P.S. If anyone needs any help on upgrading RAM or HDD/SDD on this model - post your question here as i have done both(went to 10GB(4/4/2) of RAM, upgraded HDD to faster Samsung M4 and added 120Gb Sata6G SSD to 2nd bay) and will be glad to walk you through this(quite simple) process.

And accoring to it GT660 is in fact MXM v3.0 B compatible. Just want to confirm it before pulling the trigger though(also would prefer a bit faster card since 560m is not much faster than my gtx-285m(well not faster to justify the upgrade price), was hoping to get AMD 6970M(or 6990 perhaps) if thats compatible with my system(already have 150w PSU)
