MSI Mega 180 - Install of HomeTheatre software

I've finally got the MSI Mega 180 kit up and working here.  However, when I go to install the Home Theatre it prompts me for a serial #.  I've went through the entire box for this serial #; and have yet to find it.  Any one know a way to get this serial #?  The kit kind'a sux without it.

Thanks for your help.
Brent92663's suggestion about the memory got me thinking. I didn't have any other 100mhz memory (PC2100) so I kept my 133mhz (PC2700) memory in, but changed the settings in the BIOS so it operated at 100mhz, and it now works fine!
(If anybody wants to know how todo this, let me know).
Very strange....
I have yet to try it with the normal settigns, but it is something todo tomorrow!
Thanks a lot,
Nick.

  • MSI MEGA 180 - Installing WinXP Pro

I have been reading the various posts on the MSI MEGA 180 and it seems evehas had a lot of eperience with them!
I have bought one, and have tried installing Windows XP Pro on it, and this is where it all goes wrong.
I start the installatiuon process, go through the text-only bit, and get to the graphicy bit. Then, the process either just freezes, or comes up with the blue screen of death with a STOP error, usually IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL.
I have tried the MS Knowedgebase KB314063 which suggests changing the power settings, but have had no luck with that.
    Here is my spec:
    -MSI MEGA 180
    - W6796MS V3.3 121003 18.25.07
    -AMD Athlon XP 1800+
    - 1 x 512mb RAM PC2700
    Many thanks in advance,
    Nick.

  • Poblem with software to msi mega 180

hi, I have bought a Msi mega 180 with amd.
i have installed the software. mega deluxe 3.
Everything is working fine, but when i try to listen to music via, multimedia part, the program crash. when i press ctrl+alt+del i got the error program not respondinging.
I have reinstalled the program 3 times but i still have this problem.

Thanks for posting the link AtHoSsIcO. I still have the same problem, even with the new software. I have downloaded the lastest drivers
    Audio driver version 4.31 (WHQL)
    Audio utility version 4.31
    Ethernet driver 3.39 (WHQL) + TOT.nvu
    GART driver 3.43 (WHQL)
    MemCtl driver 3.38 (WHQL) + TOT.nvu
    SMBus driver 3.43
    WinXP IDE 2.5 driver version 4.12 (WHQL) + updated nvuide.exe and txtsetup.oem
    Installer version 4.31
I have installed the latest version (45.3), but I still get the same thing, I click on music and 'loading' in green writing appears in the left hand top corner, then nothing loads and the program crashes and I have to press ctrl alt delete to get out of it. The green writing that appears is very similar to when I use special funtions on my logitech cordless keyboard, not sure if the 2 are related. Any idea what could be causing the crash?

  • MSI Mega 180 problems

Hello all, i'm quite stuck on something and need some help.
I have recently purchased an MSI Mega 180 deluxe and installed an pioneer a07 dvd writer in there, for some reason it won't let me burn cd's in audio cd format from wav files, which i need for my music studio.
Also i constructed an external case to put an internet pioneer a03 dvd writer and did the same process and believe it or not i was able to burn a audio cd, so not sure what the problem is, could the msi mega 180 dislike my newer model of pioneer, or is the pioneer on it's way out, which i find strange as it's newer and quite new.
I use nero to burn most of my cd's or dvd's which had no problem with when the dvd writer was on another desktop, it seems to get up to 26% and just freezes there, which the buffer level not moving at all.
    Hope someone can help, thanks

Sounds like all of your drivers are not up to date....
Here's what M$ has to say about it (shamelessly copied and pasted from another different website/board post).
    Stop 0x000000D1 or DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
The Stop 0xD1 message indicates that the system attempted to access pageable memory using a kernel process IRQL that was too high. Drivers that have used improper addresses typically cause this error.
    Interpreting the Message
This Stop message has four parameters:
    Memory referenced.
    IRQL at time of reference.
Type of access (0x00000000 = read operation, 0x00000001 = write operation).
    Address that referenced memory.
    Resolving the Problem
For additional troubleshooting suggestions that apply to all Stop errors, see "Stop Message Checklist" later in this appendix.
Stop 0xD1 messages can occur after installing faulty drivers or system services. If a driver is listed by name, disable, remove, or roll back that driver to confirm that this resolves the error. If so, contact the manufacturer about a possible update. Using updated software is especially important for backup programs, multimedia applications, antivirus scanners, DVD playback, and CD mastering tools.
For more information about Stop 0xD1 messages, see the Microsoft Knowledge Base link on the Web Resources page at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/reskits/webresources. Search using keywords winnt, 0x000000D1, and 0xD1.
    Update Drivers
Updated and comaptiable drivers are very important when running XP. Check your hardware with the HCL http://www.microsoft.com/hcl  If you hardware is not on the list it does not mean it won't work it just means it hasn't been tested by Microsoft and they won't Guarantee it to be compatible. If it not on the list check the manufacturer's website fo an up to date XP driver, if they don't have one you may be out of luck. This goes for motherboards and the bios too.

  • Logitech USB30 Headphones and Logitech WebCam Pro 4000 vs MSI Mega 180 Deluxe

    Hi!
I just found some problems related to the radio software/driver on my MSI Mega 180 Deluxe. I have installed all the latest software / drivers from MSI (including the bios) and i am using Windows XP Pro with Service Pack 2 installed.
The problem is that when i connect my Logitech USB30 headphones to this computer, and try starting the Radio application from MSI, i get an error mesasage saying there is no audio driver installed. And there is no sound at all. The USB headset is working 100% in all softwares like Windows Media Player and other sound applications (not related to MSI). I sent a support request to MSI, and they told me that this problem was related to my headphones. I did not accept that answere, because it does not make sense.. my headphones works perfect with any other computer and with any other software.
Then i connected my Logitech WebCam Pro 4000 to this computer (incl. the drivers) and the very same thing happened..The radio application told me there is no sound driver availible and the Listen Music application crashed by it self. The control panel now shows that there is no driver installed.. but when disconnecting the WebCam and reboot, the driver is ok again.. and the same thing happens when connecting the WebCam again.
Does anyone else got this problem, and did you solve it? How?

I don't have MSI radio installed, never have.  However, does MSI Radio provide tuner capabilities?  The ability to get radio stations?  If so, then perhaps whatever is providing the tuner capability is maintaining an IRQ that conflicts with the USB Headset and WebCam?
That's just a hypothesis.  Typically, when you have a IRQ conflict, you won't lose the driver in your Device Manager.  However, since everything in the Megas are USB driven, then there's a possibility that you would.

Need help with msi mega 180 + athlon xp-m combo

AFAIK, you shouldn't need a pinmod for a Mobile Athlon XP CPU to work in a nforce2 mobo
did you have any other CPU installed prior to this one? if so, refer here to clear the CMOS: Clear CMOS Guide
next, refer to your manual, or download from MSI, for location of the FSB jumpers; ensure J8 is shorted across pins 1-2, and J7 is shorted
finally, enter your BIOS setup menu, and under Advanced Chipset Features, set CPU FSB to 133mhz (or even 166mhz if you have DDR333 memory). the only thing i can't see in the Mega 180 manual is where you set the multiplier...
which is where the BIOS has limited overclocking features, and you might have a problem here
i think i'll pass this over to the Overclockers forum, where someone may be able to give a better answer....

  • MSI Mega 180 USB 2.0 Problems?!?

I have the MSI Mega 180, I have enabled USB 1.1+2.0 in the bios and also have installed Windows XP SP1. In device manager, I see 'enhanced PCI to USB host'.
With all that being said my External HD refuses to be recognized as a Hi Speed Device. On another machine, the same external HD works with no problems at 2.0 speeds.
Does anyone have any clues as to what I need to do to get USB 2.0 speeds? I get Hi-speed device plugged into non-hi speed hub?!?!
    any help would be schweet.

I believe the "Enhanced" indicates the USB 2.0 because that's what I have on other boards with USB 2.0 as well.  Prior to XP SP1 and on Windows 2k SP3? my boards didn't have the "Enhanced" addition.  Also, as I don't think I mentioned, prior to playing with the bios I had problems with the USB->Serial adapter.  If I removed the USB-to-serial adapter, the system booted fine and I would replug it.  After playing with the bios, this is no longer a problem and I leave it connected.  The stall happened when I had the adapter in front or rear USB ports, so not a speed issue (hey, it's serial) but more a recognition issue I believe (my mouse is fine, and as mentioned above an external HDD was found fine...).  Try the bios settings I mentioned as well as checking each line of each subcategory and check that all is well.  Let us know if that solves it.

  • New MSI Mega 180: Some problems...

I've just bought a new MSI Mega 180... and I've come up with some problems:
I can't get the radio to be detected in windows... not sure why. When I load, radio webupdate, it comes up with: Cannot find radio module.
I can't get into the Wireless configuration monitor. If you select Gateway or AP mode, and then hit configure, it comes up with a pw prompt, and I can't find what to put in there... that's driving me nuts...
When I'm running windows, the front panel is compleatly black, should it be showing anything?

The clock should be on or if you installed PC Alert it would show the CPU temp. and stuff like that. I think media centre 3 shows something on the display (I can't get it installed)
    Can't answer your other questions.

  • MSI Mega 180 Suddenly died

    Hi!
Last night I was using my MSI Mega 180 as normal, and shut it down after use, and got to bed.
The next day, the machine refused to boot. When I pressed the power-on-button the pc the fan went round once then stopped and it didnt boot.
The HIFI-mode and clock still works, but dosen't start the PC at all. I tried to connect a normal ATX power supply to the machine, and everything was working again (except hifi-mode of course)
Can anybody explain this ? Is the quality of the PSU THAT bad ?
I am VERY dissappointed. I guess i have no warranty, as I have reversed the CPU fans (and some other modifications, like removing the unused HDD-tray).
Where can I get a replacement PSU ? Is it worth it, or should I stay with my "external" ATX 350W (And much cooler and less noise than the orginal MSI MEGA 180 PSU)
The only downsides with the external PSU is :
    1. I have no Linux webserver no more (Took the PSU from there)
    2. No Hifi-mode or clock
    3. Dosen't look as good as the original.

I think all mega 180 units comes with 2 years manufacturers guarantee...
even if it's over 2 years, i have seen someone in this forum said that the psu from msi is only 35 quids?
I think you should try resetting your bios  by jumper to see if that works

  • Msi Mega 180 Gaming Problems

    Hi,
I having problems playing games on my MEGA 180. Everytime I play a game, after 5 to 10 minutes it just stops and goes back to desktop! Sometimes, I get the blue screen of death instead saying (basically) -

Does anyone know what this means and / or why my PC refuses to play games for more than 10 minutes? Everything else works and runs fine untill it comes to games. The blue screen of death only happens when the graphics card is in. Anyway, heres my spec -

  • MSI MEGA 180 Deluxe - Card Reader

Does anyone have any advice on getting the card reader to work?
It was working untill I installed all the software from the install disk. Then I rebooted and it had stopped working.
I have since done a complete fresh install, but still have the same problem.
Not really conversant with BIOS settings, so don't know what they should be.
Have installed all updates for the Mega 180 from MSI website, and also have ALL updates from microsoft. (All 110MB !!!!! Thanks god for broadband!!)
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Go to bios, and check in Itegrated Pripherals->Onboard Devices->OnChip USB.
This must be enabled. I have there V1.1+V2.0, and cardreader is working.
I was disabled this, when i installed WinXP, because cardreader start from drive C: and my HDD was like drive F:. So I disabled it, installed WinXP, and then enabled OnChip USB. Now i have A: (virtual drive) C: (Hard Drive) E: (DVD/CD-RW) F: and G: (CardReader).

  • Mega 180 - Install Video Card or Install Video Driver

I just spent 6 hours at a customer's house trying to fix the Mega 180 I built for her.
As I stated in a previous thread, the machine was working fine and then she experienced the BLACK SCREEN OF DEATH.  This is when your machine POSTS, loads Windows and just before Windows starts, the monitor goes dead.  Windows still loads and if you remember where icons are on the desktop, you can click them and stuff happens.  The monitor just stops getting a signal.  However, if you hold down F8 during boot and chose VGA mode, you can use Windows in VGA mode.  The monitor being used is a Sony Multiscan200ES.
Once in Windows, if you look under device manager, you'll see a listing of Unknown and under that it lists nVidia GeForce4 MX Integrated CPU.
So, I've tried the following fixes:
    1) Uninstalled all chipset & viideo drivers, reboot, reinstall chipset drivers, reboot, reinstall video driver, reboot.  BLACK SCREEN OF DEATH.
    2) Uninstall video driver, reboot.  Windows starts under the generic driver.  I install the video driver, reboot, BLACK SCREEN OF DEATH.
    3)  Figuring there had to be an easier solution to this problem, I installed an ATI Radeon 8500 card that I had laying around (I know this card works) figuring that I'll just sidestep the whole video driver issue by not using the onboard video.  Things just aren't that easy because after I installed the card the machine won't even POST.  It turns on but nothing happens.  ARRRR!!!  I try reseating the card, nope - nothing.  I take the card out and use the onboard graphics to make sure everything is ok in BIOS.  I read that if the BIOS detects an AGP card it will automatically disable the onboard graphics but it doesn't seem like that's happening.  So I look around BIOS and there is no way to disable the onboard graphics.  I have it set to boot AGP first, etc. and nothing works.
I guess the last thing I can do is reformat the drive, reinstall windows, and reinstall everything else.  But I don't want to do this because the machine is all set up, been used for a while, and it takes so long to reinstall everything.
My question is this.  How can I either reinstall the video driver so it works or how can I install a video card so it works?  Ideas???

    Quote
I'm going to hunt over at nVidia's website to see if they have a cleaner utility (ATI does for its Radeon drivers - rids the system of every last trace).
nVidia don't need a cleaner utility cos their software is better written!
stab in the dark - the vga lead is connected to PRIMARY vga port?
go to add/remove programs and Remove "Nvidia Display Driver" in Safe mode
restart your computer and it should boot into VGA mode, and prompt with Found New Hardware. cancel this.
the nvidia software will leave the install stuff on your computer, usually in C:\NVIDIA. browse to here and find and run the setup.exe to reinstall the software.
if its been working before, then its probably not a memory issue - it might also be worth making sure the latest nforce drivers (3.13) are installed too.
oh and customers usually WON'T admit to messing around to stuff they shouldn't - in my experience anyway!!

  • Need help with msi mega 180 + athlon xp-m combo

    Dear forummembers
I had a question regarding the athlon xp-m. I installed the cpu in my mobo and it works at a slow speed. 600mhz (multiplier @ 6, fsb 100) So I used a pinmod. Now it runs at 1400mhz (multiplier @ 7x systembus and x14), but I have 2500+ m @ 45 watt or something so it should run at 1862. The problem is my fsb. It runs only at 100. How can I change the FSB? I selected in the bios fsb 133 but it jumps back to 100 all the time. I have the newest bios available, downloaded and installed with liveupdate. is it possible to set  the fsb in the bios, or do I have to change the pinmod again? I know the site for that: pinmod map viewer
I selected socketview, barton and 7x systembuss + 133mhz and I checked and checked again. I did inserted the pinmodwires like it's shown. I used 5 cutted speaker fiber wires (copper)
My current speed is: 14x 100 mhz, but I want 14*133. The multiplier is correct, but the fsb isn't. What is the problem? Does anyone know?
Here is an example picture, for people, who don't know what a pinmod is:

AFAIK, you shouldn't need a pinmod for a Mobile Athlon XP CPU to work in a nforce2 mobo

I've lost my CD for install driver on my mega 180 and afer reformat it, I can't install modem and wireless driver.
I try to dl them from MSI but the dl driver don't work.
Is somebody will be able to dend me an iso to this mailbox ? [email protected]
    Thank's

MSI used two different modem models for the Mega 180.  The only way to check which model you have would be to peek at the modem itself.  Unfortunately, the modem is tucked underneath the power supply, so to get a look at it, you would need to take apart most of your Mega first.  The easier way would be to just download both drivers, try one out, and if it doesn't work, try the other.  Both are available for download here:

    Dear 31ait,
I just read a forum topic of two years ago on
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=78051.msg550349#msg550349 and I have a Mega PC 180 standard.
Funny enough I would like exactly the contrary you did on your machine. I would take the plain faceplate away and install a card reader instaed.
Therefore I would ask you if you still have the card reader and faceplate because I would be intersted in buying them, and swapping with my plain faceplate.
    Thanks for yout reply
