MSI motherboard and FX processor

Hello all.
I have plans to buy the MSI 760GMA-P34 (FX) to build a secondary rig with an AMD FX-8350. It would be at stock speeds, stock cooler, not overclocking.
The question that molests me is: Would I get enough stability with that motherboard? The website says the CPU is compatible, but, I have doubts about the thermal capacity of these 760G motherboards. Because my FX-6300 seems to be running on the edge with a similar motherboard (other model, worse, less TDP limit). The cause of such borderline might be the lack of heatsink in the VRMs, that being heated up, might cause throttling on the processor.
If I go with this motherboard, I want to be sure I will have a stable and normal experience. I will not overclock or do anything expensive with that rig, only to use it for video encoding and other expensive tasks while stock. And unfortunately I am not able to spend more money that the cost of the said MSI motherboard.
As always, any tip or opinion will help me alot. Thanks.

I have requested info from MSI directly, not to worry. Shall post it for the user community when I get it.
Thanks very much...yes, looking at the supported cpu list doesn't answer that question, unfortunately, and the information is nowhere to be found in the specs for the Gaming 970....  My current G46-970a mboard has been excellent for my FX-6300 6-core running at 4.5GHz (on air, stock voltage), with the G46's TDP of 125W max--because my cpu TDPs @95W.  It's been stable and solid as a rock for the ~ couple of years I've owned it.
However, I was thinking that if the 970-Gaming is not just a superficial revamp of the G46-970a--with different audio components and a different color scheme--it surely might do better than the G46-970a's 125W TDP, which would mean I could use it with an FX-83xx without any fear of it overloading the board.  You are certainly correct in discerning that this is what I want to know...  I'm sure I'm not the only one.  Thanks very much, again, and will look forward to your post when they decide to release this information...!  If the Gaming 970 is also a 125W TDP board there is just no point in looking at it since I will already own a mboard that is ~95% identical.  Hopefully they'll have addressed this situation with the "gaming" motherboard, as the moniker implies overclocking--otherwise, they'd be better to just offer a "G46B", or a "G47"...I should think.

  • I have MSI motherboard and MSI GE2Ti 64MB and can\'t get over 30 fps

I am addicted to playing CS, I used to have a PIII 866 motherboard that crashed.  I bought a MSI motherboard with a Celeron 1.7 and I have a MSI Ge2Ti 64MB DDR video card.  I used to have over 70 fps when playing in the old days, however with this new motherboard I cant get over 30 fps.  I thought that my video card was the culprit and I bought a new ATI Radeon 9000 with 128 MB DDR.  After installing it, I still have less than 30 fps  ?(   ;(
Before I purchased the Radeon, I tried tweaking the videocard with the rivatuner, but I had no great success.
The motherboard has a built-in video, can it be conflicting with the AGP card?
My motherboard is a MS-6524 and my video card is a MSI Ge2-Ti model 8855
    Any help is appreciated!

Running a P4 (or celeron4) with SDR memory results in very poor preformance, it's basicly ment for office/internet use.
That I would expect is a big part of the slowness, in fact a celeron 1.7 with SDR could very well be slower than the PIII 866 in many aspects.
Remember the P4 1.5 wuth RDRAM using the i850 chipset was barely any faster than the PIII 1.0GHz at the time it was released!
It might be a little late now, but if you need to keep your RAM the only CPUs today that could get something out of SDR are the AthlonXP's and PIII/Celeron socket370.
And AthlonXP 1800+ costs about the same as the celeron 1700 you have and a basic board with SiS735 or VIA KT133A chipset will cost about the same.

  • MSI motherboards and usb 2.0

Does anyone know why usb products don't recognise that the MSI motherboards usb 2.0 or vice versa.
I have several computers all with msi mbs but not one has usb 2.0 as when i put in a usb item a banner appears that says that it would work better in a usb 2.0 port, the box says they are all USB 1.1 and USB 2.0 compatible.
is there a patch to sort this out?
    Thanks in advance

There's probably a setting in BIOS to enable or disable USB 2.0 support along with a similar option for legacy USB (1.1) support.  Take a look at your particular setting.
Of course the other possibility is that 2.0 works on the back but doesn't work on the front.  In that case I think it is almost always the wiring from the mobo USB connector to the front panel receptacles.

  • Sound problems - MSI Motherboard and drivers

    message:-
I have an Evesham Microcomputer and am having difficulty with the sound - distorted and sometimes slow. I decided to use Live update to ensure I have the most upto date drivers for the sound card and chip set, both VIA.
Unfortunately I am having a trouble down loading these update and installing.  All I get after a few minutes of the download screen is error code 997. Any ideas about the down load or sound problem? System info below.

  • Access to SATA RAID-5 array without an MSI motherboard?

I have (had) an MSI K8N Diamoond Plus motherboard, and used it to create a bootable SATA RAID-5 array of three 300Gb Western Digital disks.  Two years later, the motherboard developed a serious problem with the memory access, and now it won't POST beyond the memory initialization. So it's fried. I've tried multiple memory modules in multiple configs, and nothing helps.
OK, no problem, new motherboard and I'm good to go. Only this isn't an MSI motherboard, and it's an Intel chipset. So, the RAID array isn't recognized.
Are there any software tools that can reconstruct the RAID array when running on a non-nvidia chipset motherboard? Is there any other solution besides buy a new MSI motherboard?
And, if I have to get a new MSI motherboard to solve this, what's the cheapest currently available motherboard that would be compatible with the RAID established on the original K8N Diamond Plus?

Quote from: cameradv on 23-January-08, 00:07:27
Well, I'm not 100% sure which controller was doing the RAID. I'm thinking the SIL, but I beleive it was nvidia software drivers in windows that re-constructed the RAID-5 once when I replaced a drive.  Can you buy a standalone nVidia RAID controller, anyway?
You were using Nvidia RAID, with Silicon can't do RAID5.

  • MSI 915GM4 Motherboard and a P4 s775 2.66/1M/533 Processor - Dont Work

    Hello Everyone,
    I bought an MSI 915GM4 Motherboard and a P4 s775 2.66/1M/533 Processor yesterday and
assembled it by myself. But when I power it on, it won't display anything nor you can any hear beeping sounds.
So I tried to pull it out from the case to test only the Processor, Motherboard, PowerSupply, Memory and Monitor, but still It won't display nor you can hear beeping sounds that would indicate the cause of the problem.
Later then, I contacted a friend of mine who has a Celeron D s775 Processor and tried it on my MSI Motherboard. Its only the processor that was swapped and nothing else. Guess what? It displays and even loads to windows. So I was started thinking that my own processor might be the problem. But I did not conclude right away that the
processor is the problem and so what I did is I borrowed an Asrock Motherboard (s775)
from the same friend. Now, if this will not work then its confirm that my processor
might be the problem. But I was surprised when it work and still boot up to windows.
Confusion wraps my mind, the next time I started thinking about compatibility issues
and so I visited MSI site looking for CPU Support of my Motherboard and found out that
it should support. Well, to try to resolve this issues I tried flashing the bios for
the motherboard of its latest version updates, but sitll no luck..
Hmmmm.... what could be it? Did I miss something?
Well guys if you could help me on this I really appreciate it.. I don't really know now what move to take.

  • MSI-PRO-E Motherboard and OCZ3G1600LV6GK

I have been doing some research and am deeply confused. I am going to be buying a MSI Pro-E motherboard and am planning on buying OCZ Gold Ram (3 x 2GB). I was looking at the timings and am getting confused. Some people are saying you have to mess with the BIOS to get the timing to 8-8-8-24, and others are saying that you don't have to do anything. So I am wondering if you actually have to do anything in order to obtain the timing of 8-8-8-24? Also Can the motherboard run RAM at 1600Mhz without overclocking or would I have to overclock the RAM in order to get that speed?

Thanks for the reply. Sorry I forgot to mention that I am going to be using a I7 920 processor. Also I found a picture of the bios settings someone had and they were doing the second method you mentioned.  I don't think it has more than 1 XMP profile, and if it does I'm probably not going to change it because I will be using the second method. So just to double check to make sure I'm not messing this up, I want to set it to 2N not 1N right? (Just checking cause I read somewhere that you usually leave it on 1N.)
Typically you will want to use 1N but some RAM won't be able to do it properly...
Something else you may want to consider: If you use 1333 mode instead of 1600 you won't have to increase voltage and often can use much better RAM timings. I've some 7-7-7-20 Corsair RAM in here but when I found out that in 1333 mode it runs with 4-6-6-15 without the requirement to increase the voltage, I was very happy to leave it at that. There are also other timings which can nicely be set manually - my tRFC is 49 instead of 88 now!
Something which may speak against using XMS info: My corsair RAM is a triple kit, but somehow one module has one value set differently than the others in there...thus I'm using manual setup now (tRFC was set much too high anyway, it wasn't even using XMS info).

  • MSI MS-6507 motherboard and 133MHz FSB

Hello, I have a neighbour here with a PC that has MS-6507 v.1 (no integrated LAN) motherboard inside and 2.8GHz Intel processor, which is reported as 2.1GHz due to the fact that FSB is at 100MHz instead of 133MHz. Now there is NO setting in Award bios that would allow me to change FSB, maybe because the board was made for Medion OEM company from Germany. It has currently v1.59 BIOS which I believe is the latest one for Medion.
Now the question. Is it safe to flash the board with original MSI BIOS and which one should I use in order to unlock 133MHz FSB option?
Thank you in advance, hopefully someone will help me.

Sorry we support only retail MSI products.
You have to contact your OEM vendor for support.

Some benchmark results before racing with The Crew.
CPU and GPU info on CPU-Z and GPU-Z applications:
    3DMark Fire Strike score: 6441
3DMark Fire Strike Extreme score: 3384
    3DMark Fire Strike Ultra score:1262
The excel performance proof the brand new 960 graphics card comes with good a high Cost/Performance Value.
Now, check out this test benchmark score of the renowned game “The Crew”.
The game presents an ultra-quality display, 60 Frames Per Second (FPS)
    FPS: Average frames is at:
    Frames: 3859 - Time: 76828ms - Avg: 50.229 - Min: 43 - Max: 56
The comments of the game for your reference:
There are many types of missions that can be chosen from the America’s map.
Street racing, high-speed collision, breakaway from police, sky jumps, zigzagging, etc… make the game quite dynamic.
Now, when it comes to multi-player matches, the performance has exceeded expectations. Perhaps, it is the killer Ethernet that’s working the magic. Thus, this game is highly recommended if you have the right rig.
The downside is that the display intricacy is not as refined as GTA V and in addition, the game FPS is limited at 60 FPS. However, the overall gaming flow and performance is better than good.
The user's comment for using MSI Gaming 5 motherboard and 960 graphics card:
(The following commends are translated from user’s article, does not represent the viewpoint of MSI) ^^
Recently, MSI GTX 960 just launched so the initial price tag is still adjustable.
According to the current product line, it seems like this GPU is going to replace 750Ti. So once all the stocks (750Ti) at the store empties, we are most likely to see a price drop on GTX960.
Once the price hits the sweet spot, it’s time to try out GTX960 SLI’s performance.
The CP value on MSI GTX960 and GAMING 5 MB is pretty high. But the XSplit software that comes with the product is a bit annoying since the authentication steps are divided into 2 parts to go through for using it.
    Enough said, anyways, GAME ON!

NVIDIA 960 card  + GAMING 5 motherboard = best bundle for budget gaming!
it would be nice to see more testing of hardware-demanding games!

  • How you can solve a problem or find out on a dead pc if the problem relies on motherboard and not on processor or vice versa

    hi.
I am working myself with computers ,  so there is one thing in my mind I wanted to be sure, which I couldn't find an answer for it!
because I had before totally black screen and the problem was damaged processor.
I am wondering how I can be sure as the last option when I get a black screen and there is no lihgts at all no any LED is lighting.totally dead pc.
how  you can be sure then that the problem relies on processor and not on motherboard or vice versa the problem relies on motherboard and not on processor
because I can't say to the customer lets buy first a processor if it is the cause of dead PC and if not then we buy motherboard. this sounds not wise.
so I experimented first with my latop ,I pulled out the processor to see if I can see any LED light or any movement on the motherboard to be sure that motherboard giving me some clue that it is healty. I gave some light heat to de fan to let it turn ,because
it is working with heat sensors then I know that the motherboard is healty. but it didn't work.
I did the same with my desktop computer and the result is the same no any lights and no any movement on the motherboard . so now can some one tell me how you can distuingish as a last result which of this 2 components is causing dead PC. is there any
tool to test the motherboard or how asus, dell ect. they solve such a problem if the customer send to them a dead pc.
I know that the power supply also can cause dead pc but I know how to solve a problem  with dead power supply. and I want to keep away power supply from this question. please do not tell me that  Idon't have to pull out processor
because I am a technician and both of my computers are doing very good after this experiment.
    thanks

Usually if you have some kind of hardware failure there is some beeping during POST or most motherboards now have LED indicators to produce and error message based on the type of failure
So if its bad memory, not place properly, mismatched, processor not inserted properly, mismatched voltage or voltage connector not present etc it beeps or generates the error id.
Power supplies can be tested for failure. There are some walk throughs for testing just them with a switch, paperclip or a jumper (I'd suggest not doing this if you are not familiar with the dangers of electricity).
Memory can be tested with memory diagnostics programs like Memtest+
Processors can overheat if the proper precautions have not been taken usually you will get a POST beep or error code for that.
If the motherboard has no response then do the basics first:
Check power connectors and power supply. Once you determine that is not the case move on to other items like graphics cards in all the way or memory.

  • MSI graphics cards and MSI motherboards

Do MSI "tend" to match their graphics cards with their motherboards? .... would I benefit from matching an MSI graphics card with my K8T Neo2 motherboard?
    JLP

    Noooooooo, not at all.
I have some K8N neo2 platinum combined with an msi nx6800gt and although
i'm very happy with game performance, there are times i would expect more.
My GT has lots of problems when not running at stock.
Even at 365/1050 there is some stuttering (rarely, and for about 2 seconds) but
    still, there is.
It could as well have been any other brand.
And i bet it could have been a better o/cer.
The only thing i HIGHLY recommend msi gards, is their EXCELLENT bundle.
Mine came with 15 cds(!!!) :  DOOM 3, XIII, URU, Prince of Persia and many more.

  • Incompatibility between Plextor cdrw and MSI motherboards

I recently bought an MSI K7N2 Delta ILSR and from the very begining found 2 problems, which dispite my efforts haven't been solved till now!!!! ;(  ;(  ;(
1.My plextor 2410a works only at PIO,dispite the fact that Windows XP recognizes it as ULTRADMA 2.With my previes configuration(QDI Kinetiz 7b was working just fine). After several e-mails with the USA support of MSI, they answered me that MSI motherboards are not tested with the Plextor cdrw models  X(  X( This means that all MSI motherboards might have problem working with Plextor cdrw models. So if you have a plextor,DON'T BUY MSI MOTHERBOARD,WON'T WORK!!!! X(  X(
    2.With my previous mobo coulb connect my nokia 3510 through my com1 with a mbus cable.Now with this mobpo, I can't do.Resolution from MSI...NONE !!!!!    X(  X(  ;(  ;(
So think twice beforing buying. For sure I will never ever buy again a MSI motherboard!!!Better Asus or anything else
