MSI motherboard model number location?

Hi...........I have a simple question.  I bought, from a private party, a recently built computer with a Pentium 4 2.53 GHZ processsor, running Windows XP Pro.  It has an MSI motherboard in it.  The builder doesn't know the exact model number of the mobo.
The builder forgot to install a driver for the SM Bus Controller.   I need to download the driver for it, but before I can do that, I need the mobo model number.  I've taken the side cover off and have looked for a model number.  I don't see anything that looks like a model number.
In addition to the SM Bus Controller driver, I also want to download the instruction manual and anything else concerning this board.
Almost in the very middle of the board is "MSI" in large white letters.  This is right above the agp slot for the video card.  I don't see any numbers close to it that would be what I'm looking for.
It's not the most recent socket.  Would this possibly be socket 478?  I'm just not sure.  There is a chip labeled MSI Core Cell.
There is also a small white upc code with a number on it, which I assume could be the serial number.  It's a 10 digit number with a letter for the second digit.  I wonder if there is somewhere in the MSI site that cross references serial numbers with model numbers?
I check Windows system information to see what it would tell me.
This is what it showed:
System Manufacturer:                Micro-Star Inc.
System model:                          MS-6728
System type:                            x86 based PC
Processor:                                x86 Family 15 Model 2 Stepping 7 Genuine Intel ~2533 Mhz
I've done some searches on the MSI site for MS 6728 but have had no results.
I can't think of anything else that might help identify this board.  With the information I've provided, can anyone give me a clue where to look for the model of the board?
Thanks for your assistance.

Thanks to all that replied to my post.  I had a sudden realization that I could Google the number MS 6728, which is a MSI part number, not the model number.  Unfortunately, I had this epiphany after I posted.  I was able to find a picture of the board.  It's actually a 865 PE Neo 2 Platinum.
Thanks for the google hint!
About the only place I didn't look was between the PCI slots, which is what the provided link indicated.  I looked, and there it was!
Thanks again.

  • Model number location

Where can I find the model # on a PowerMac G-5 box?

The serial number is located on the configuration label, which is found by removing the side panel and looking below the plastic air deflector usually in the center of that area.
On the bottom of the case is an A### number which isn't so telling, as it refers more to the case itself.
You might from the configuration label figure out your actual M9--- number based on processor speed, bus type, etc by looking at the Power Macintosh specs on this Apple support site.
Finally, you can use the serial number here to get a decoding of more specific nature on the family of the computer.

  • Wrong Motherboard Model Number in BIOS won't let Recovery CD run

    Hello all,
Scoured the internet for an answer, and haven't found anything to help, so I thought I'd ask here. Trying to resurrect an old Toshiba Satellite P100 of mine.
I'm trying to reformat it with the Windows XP Professional SP3 recovery disc (ancient OS, I know; don't ask why I'm using it, just am) that came with my laptop.
However, it won't run because the motherboard model number in my BIOS is wrong. I get the following message:
"This Recovery and Applications CD is not configured to work with this machine (ÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿ)
This CD is for: Satellite P100,Satellite P105
Please use the correct Recovery and Applications CD"
That series of y's with umlauts is what's showing as the mainboard model number in CPU-Z. I know what my actual number is, and that definitely ain't it. I've run this same recovery disc on this very motherboard before and it worked no problem. I don't really know why the model number would have changed since then.
I've tried resetting BIOS and flashing new BIOS as well, and nothing changes the model number to the correct one. Is there any way that I can correct it?
I know that I have a bad RTC battery/CMOS battery. I'm not sure if that could have caused the model number change. All I can tell so far is that it's messing with the BIOS time, but I didn't know if it could have changed the model number. I can't just replace it because apparently the battery is soldered to the motherboard for p100/p105 models, and if I have to buy a new motherboard then I think I'll just give up.
The laptop is obviously out of warranty, so it's not like I can send it to a certified Toshiba repair center or anything. I'd like to use my recovery disk to reinstall XP Pro with all the original drivers and programs since there are a few on there that I'd have to pay for otherwise to reinstall since they didn't come with product keys. If there is any other way to format and reinstall to factory settings without the cd, I'm open to it and would must appreciative.
    Thanks!

Unfortunately, Toshiba does not supply the utility that fixes the DMI string for your model. (It would be like this one.) Toshiba expects you to take it to a dealer for resetting.

  • How to locate your Vaio Model Number

In order to get the best support you can from fellow users of the forum it's important to always quote the model number when you have a question.
The method for locating your model number depends on when the product was released. On very old models (released before Summer 2000) the computer information and compliance label (located on the bottom of the notebook case or the back of the desktop case) indicates the actual model / product name. For all more recent Vaios (models released Fall 2000 and later) the model name can be found on a small label located in one of the following places:
    Notebook Computers:
    * On the bezel (frame) of the LCD display.
    * On the LCD hinge.
    * At the top left or top right of the keyboard.
    Desktop Computers:
    * On the front of the computer
    * On the bezel (frame) of the LCD display for all-in-ones.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

We're just posting this as a reminder as we've been getting a lot of posts with no model number quoted recently. Also, many users have been quoting the chassis part number instead of the model number - if your notebook computer is a more recent model year than 2005 the model number will not begin with PCG - it will begin with VGN or VPC.

Use the dv9000 series Service & Maintenence guide. You will have to peruse the guide to see which one for your series has all of the features yours had. The part numbers are listed. Some are bare bones entry models and others are full featured. Be certain to note which one work with which CPU.
Another way to do it is to use the p/n fom the barcoded sticker , go to the web support portal for your notebook and use the order parts link.  Pay close attention to the details in the parts listing.
    Kind regards,

  • Help to identify a MSI motherboard, immediately?

Hello need help to identify a MSI motherboard, has this info:
Can you link to the product homepage.
    Motherboard
    Manufacturer MICRO-STAR INTERNATIONAL CO., LTD

    Soutbridge Manufacturer Intel
    Southbridge Model 82801HB / HR (ICH8 / R)
    Southbridge Revision B0
    BIOS
    Brand Phoenix Technologies, LTD
    Release 6:00 PG
    Date 2006-08-18

Something doesn't tally with the data.
    You state Quote
    Brand Phoenix Technologies, LTD
    Release 6:00 PG
    Date 2006-08-18
The BIOS page for that board http://www.msi.com/support/mb/P965_Neo.html#down-bios shows that there is no such BIOS version and none of the dates coincide either. The first BIOS version for that board precedes your date, so if it is the chip model number that you provided, then MSI must have changed the BIOS chips about 2 months after the board was released
Can you get into the BIOS on boot up to check the exact version of the flashed BIOS.

Does anyone know how i can get the motherboards serial number?
I tried the wmi but get so many errors like missing prototype and not declared.
I dont know when to start using the Windows Management Instrumentation with regards to Lab windows/CVI.
    Can anyone help me?

    Help share your knowlegde

I made up a small example that shows how to use WMI in CVI.
Unfortunately, I tested it on two systems (Win XP and Win7) and the serial number that can be retrieved in System Enclosure (that should be the S/N assigned by the PC producer) is always blank.
I will try to locate additional infos on this matter, in the meanwhile you may want to experiment with the example and search for other available infos (like for example OS or disk s/n) to create your own security system.
The example can be found here.
Proud to use LW/CVI from 3.1 on.

  • X-FI FATAL1TY : Wrong model number on my c

I noticed that the Model number on my X-Fi fatalty card's PCB does not correspond to the model numbers published on this site. The X-Fi should have the model number SB0466 but on mine it reads SB0460, which corresponds to the X-Fi platinum or Extreme music edition. The I/O dri've is ok and the packaging is definately the Fatalty edition.
Has anyone else found this with their Fatalty card?</LI>
Does this mean that the wrong card was packaged</LI>
Is their another way to determine that model number by reading a chip identifier (not the drivers) by software or any other way to determine that the card is actually a Fatalty model.</LI>
Hope somebody can help or enlighten me, and thanks when you do. :manhappy:

Okay guys, i have read much about samsung chips:
    >Also if its a Music or plat card the mem chip will be a <B>Samsung</B> chi, its located directly above the <B>X</B>-FI chip
But my Xtreme Music has no Sasmsung chip on it its a Hynix Chip. The Sticker says 0460, wo what card
    is mine?
Here is a picture of this card:

Not a good picture, but good enough to see the hynix chip and the sticker.
    Please Help!
    Does this mean:
    hy57V660ET-6
    which means:HY=HYnix57=SdramV = Voltage 3,3V6= Density 6M6= Organization x6 = 2Banks0 = Low Voltage TTLE = 6th Generation ChipT = TSOP Package-6= 66MHz
    I think density is 6 million bits = 2MB.

  • Trying to identify a MSI motherboard

A friend gave me his PC & I am gonna format its hard drive and reload XP from scratch on it. Also, they want me to max out its RAM. I originally thought it was a DELL 3000 desktop & could hold 2GB of RAM, but after talking to him, I learned that the motherboard had been replaced a while back. He told me his original DELL computer got zapped by a storm so he had to have the motherboard replaced. Its now apparently an MSI motherboard since I can see a big "MSI" printed on it after I open the case.
Since I'm not sure exactly what motherboard is in there, what is the best way to identify it? I've seen the free scanner on MSI's website that helps identify it and be able to tell you what drivers it needs (something I will need to use as well), but is there maybe a free MSI download that can tell me what I have and identify the motherboard part number. Therefore, I can then determine how much memory it can hold and what I need to buy. Or maybe there is something else I should simply look for physically printed on the motherboard?

OK, got it and found the driver page. Its a PM8M-V motherboard and here is the driver page for it.
    http://www.msi.com/product/mb/PM8M-V.html#/?div=Driver&os=XP%2032
However, I am now having an issue with one of the drivers. 32bit XP & here is what I needed & have successfully installed so far:
    - chipset driver (very first thing to install)
    - audio driver
Also downloaded & installed XP Service Pack 3. Now, I tried installing the video driver listed on this support page (for its integrated video). I tried running the 'setup' file, but that didn't work. It keeps giving me a message saying that it was unable to load the software and to go to the Windows directory log for details.  It then aborts the installation.  What is this? I tried to install the video driver manually, but that didn't work either.
I even tried running the live update 5 software in automatic mode, but that apparently didn't work either & I am still getting a yellow question mark for video in the device manager. Any idea what is going on here and how to install this motherboard's video driver properly?
