MSI MPOWER MAX Z87 - RAID failure after BIOS update (settings reset)

I use the integrated intel RAID controller to create a 2 disk RAID-0 6TB (2x3TB), but everytime I update the BIOS, there is a RAID failure.
It does not matter if I use Live Update or the Update BIOS+ME option of the BIOS menu. All settings are lost, and after the boot the RAID controller is deactivated due to that. I go to BIOS right after the auto-reboot and re-enter my settings (RAID instead of AHCI), but the intel controller only sees 1 disk as a RAID member. Recovery option is not active when I enter the controller options (control+I). I always need to delete and recreate the RAID, which of course loses all data.
Very frustrating!
Am I doing the update wrong? I know I did it once and settings were not reset, my RAID was kept intact, but I believe it was only 1 time of 4 or 5 updates I did to my MPOWER MAX.

- I use Windows 8.1.
- My vga does not support UEFI so I use... legacy mode? (I'm not that familiar with BIOS->UEFI yet, sorry.)
- According to Intel RST, the RAID HDDs are on ports 2 and 3.
- This time the update was from 1.80 to 1.90.
1.70 to 1.80 also resulted in the same problem, but I used LiveUpdate.
For previous updates, I don't remember but I sometimes I used LiveUpdate, sometimes the BIOS feature.
I'm pretty sure that only once the RAID was kept intact, and I don't remember the versions or method I used, but I believe I used the BIOS method (don't know if needed BIOS+ME or not), not LiveUpdate.

I'm going to create an RAID 0 array with the Intel ICH5R but one question rises: if I upgrade my bios after creting the RAID 0 array, will I lose all my data?
Is it sufficient to recreate the array after bios flashing to have back all my data?

no, upgrading BIOS won't kill your data. It will only at most, lost the array information. All you need to do is to re-set the array info once more and your data is still "as is".

MSI P67A-GD53 (B3) Boot loop after BIOS update

Hi,
I've just updated my BIOS to 7681v42 from an earlier version (can't remember which one exactly) and after the update I am stuck in a boot loop. The computer turns on for about 5 seconds or so and then switches back off, the CPU fan, motherboard fan & video card fan spin for a few seconds then power is cut.
I've tried booting up with nothing else connected (no vga, memory, hdd, empty USB slots) to no avail. I have tried resetting the CMOS as well but I don't get any further than the reset loop.
Can anyone suggest something? Is there any way to force the MB to use the backup BIOS?

You can try doing this again with a single stick of ram or some different ram, but more than likely you will need to rma the board for re-flashing.

Elitebook 8560w keyboard failure after BIOS update

Hi,
I have recently updated to F.22, however, I suffer from major problems: the keyboard and touchpad not longer works as expected. I suffer huge delays between input and reaction of the computer. I have to hold keys for several seconds for actions to take place. However, USB connected devices (mouse/keyboard) works just fine. I am not able to roll back my older BIOS because of notice -failed BIOS signature.
O/S: Windows 7 32 bit.
Could you, please, help me? It's a shame that first post here is asking for help

Ok. Update - after BIOS hard reset, the computer turns on again. Anybody has any ideas how to roll back older BIOS (officially it doesn't allow to roll back to older BIOS version than F.20 as per HP

Satellite P100 - Boot Failure after BIOS update

Hi,
I wanted to update BIOS on my Satellite P100 - (PSPADE) with latest version downloaded from Toshiba site.
Quitted all apps.
Run zip file Error Message file %path\phlahnt.sys not found.
Keyboard no longer worked Unable to shutdown even using power button.
To shutdown unplugged laptop and removed battery.
No longer boots No Message, No Beep, Nothing.
I have tried with restore CD with Power up holding F12 key but nothing.
I have also tried to power up with and without AC plugged and with and without battery but still nothing.
Plug, Battery, Leds on when power up Power and speakers leds also on
Any help? Any suggestion, any idea?

Hmmm what to say. Sounds not good and in my opinion it looks like you have updated the notebook with a wrong BIOS or something went wrong during the BIOS update procedure
Are you 110% sure you have used the right BIOS??
It seems you will be not able to solve this issue yourself without any additional help from notebook technician.
In most cases the BIOS must be flashed again on special way
For me its clear You have to contact the ASP to get rid of this issue

MSI mpower Max z87 problems

I have 2 problems with my MSI board
1) When I Insert my MSI 760gtx card on the 1st SLI slot the computer does not boot to windows and I get a random A? something error A6 A0 depents on what it decides but on the second slot works fine
2) Secondly when I try windows 8 fast boot it says that I have not a windows 8 logo graphic card I have the MSI 760gtx and it supports windows 8 as it says on the box how do I fix that issue ?

Boot Failure after BIOS update

I have just built a new machine around an MSI K8N Neo4-FI Nforce4 Ultra based motherboard.
I am using a Promise Supertrak SX6000 RAID controller for my various disks.
The system built fine, but when I allowed Liveupdate to update the BIOS to the latest version (1.D I think) it will no longer boot off the RAID controller even though everything in the BIOS says that it should.
Has anyone got any suggestions?
If anyone has one of these boards with an older BIOS version that they can send me an image of, I'd be extremely grateful.

Well it appears that MSI updated the SiL firmware at 1.C, that's likely when they screwed up the PnP assignment of reserved memory mapping. I'd try 1.B as a first stab but that's only a WAG. You might also try to find a program which shows the reserved memory mapping and see if there's no way to change the Promise assignment - that might also help tell MSI what they've buggered up. Of course the fact that your mbrd does not actually have a SiL controller makes things all the more aggravating - a symptom of attempts to make a "unified" BIOS to cover all variants of a common feature set.

Lost RAID function after bios update 870S-G54

WOW, Lucky I backed up original bios before flashing. No RAID during post. Flashed back to original and got my RAID5 array back. Beware of latest version 17.D, 2011-06-29.
What is up with that?

In this case then, stick with the BIOS version that works for you. Just because a new version becomes available, doesn't mean that you MUST upgrade, only if you need to.

K7t266 pro2 ru raid problems after bios update

i updated my bios to most resent ver. as of 12/20/03 and i was going to raid two 120 gig maxter ata 133 hdd. so i enable onboard raid in bios and save n exit. but it act's like there is no raid the scanning screen is not there nor the screen to access the raid setup. so i go back to the bios to verify the bios settings and raid is still enabled and to find out there is no fastrak 100 boot option there any more just cdrom floppy hdd-0 and disable thats it...any help out there? could use a little. need any more info let me know. oh! i rolled back my bios to ver. 3.0 to see if it would fix it ....nope :(

Problems with Mpower Max Z87

Since yesterday i have the following problem with my pc.
i'm using a gigabyte gtx780 windforce 3x oc als peg and for now its not working anymore. if i am turning on the computer only the fans are working and video display is only possible through the igd, even when its deactivated in bios. all other components seem to work normal, but led debug code ist showing 04 which means "power on southbridge initialization".
so i changed the gtx 780 to my old msi gtx570 twin frozr III and everything seems to work normal for now, but if i am looking into the device manager there's an exclamation mark indicating that the msi mpower max z87 isn't recognized properly and only shown as unknown device.
so, what does that mean? is there a problem with the psu, mb or the gtx780
my system specs are:
Core i7 4770k
MSI Mpower Max Z87 Bios V.1.2
Gigabyte Geforce GTX780 Windforce 3x OC
16 GB Corsair Vengeance 2133 Mhz
Corsair HX850
Windows 8 Pro x64

reseated cpu and found some bent pins. rebent them with precision tools, and for now, everything, even the gtx780, seems to work normal. will try some decent oc to check if there are any problems left because of the bent cpu pins.

I finished the assembly, but when I start my computer stay on but not send signal for monitor.
I don't know if is a problem from bios or videocard.
Does anybody can help me?

You just updated bios but without a proper ME update (done with correct fpt flash) that is useless. I prepared an appropiate archive for you. Follow the below exactly:

A.) Download the attached archive (E7815IMS_190.rar) and place it on your desktop. Do not decompress.
B.) Download and install the Forum flash tool.
C.) Insert your FAT32 formatted usb stick.
D.) Make sure that all win 8 options are disabled. (Fast Boot etc) Also make sure the legacy USB is enabled.
E.) Start the forum flash tool and select option 1. Then point the tool at the compressed archive we downloaded earlier. Then to your USB Flash Drive.
F.) Boot to the USB
G.) Now follow the directions and let the tool flash
H.) After flashing reinstall ME drivers in Windows: http://download.msi.com/dvr_exe/intel_amt90_mb.zip

Kinston Hyper X DDR3 1600mhz 9-9-9-27 2x4GB

Intel SSD 510 250GB
Seagate Barracuda 3TB

all day passed and i am a bit tired of seeing bios and bsods
i think i got the lazy chip help me understand it better and learn things on the way.
this is most stable i got.
Bios E7815IMS.133
CPU ratio: x44
Ratio: Fixed

Vcore 1.25v Offset 0.015V
Svid comm. Enabled
from digitall i changed only CPU Vdrop to 100%
Ram set on xmp and manualy entered timings and voltage and speed 1600
With this i pass AIDA 64 stress test for 30min no problem
cinebench pass
when i open Prime95 Blend test 15min pass and bsod..
Temps were 80-85c with room 25c
Everything else in bios is set to default (auto)
Any tips how to tweek it more?
i tried x45 with settings as above i boot into windows pass cinebench but crash on aida64.
i also tryed just x46 with voltage bump up to 1.28v with offset 0.015
I will be deliding as soon as my h220 arrives and CLU.
Also is there some special USB so i can take the screenshots?
i tried all the ports different flashes also formated to FAT32 and NTFS same its saying no usb dongle..
When i put my WD 2TB HDD it recognize it but when i want to save the Screenshot it gives this message
"allocate file system resource fail"
I would post Screanshots but as i mentioned above its annoying problem..

Internal VR efficiency management - disabled in screanshots its enabled
with this i am able to make 30mind aida with no crash temps a bit high but can be managed, i boot into windows with this vcore and x45 but unstable during aida 10min bsod
i boosted the voltage to 1.275 with offset 0.015v and got me 20min aida then bsod. any way i can tweek it more?

I would like to play music over SPDIF, while I get no errors, I also get no sound.
I have read the Wiki here Advanced_Linux_Sound_Architecture
Also, I've been Googling and searching here on the forum, I've followed some steps but none seem to 'sound' right.
What I have not done is creating an asoundrc file with my setup, I believe that I can test if it works first, before I create such a file. Like to hear if this is right.
And I should note that I also use regular stereo out and USB headphones.

Mine originally came with v1.1 and had no problem booting or restarting problem of holding settings above stock/auto/default.

Usually an indicator a voltage isn't high enough. OC settings don't sound stable. Might open a thread in the OC and Undervolt forum section for help with that. H97M-G43 RAID0 Config Lost After Bios Update

the problem is serious because in each update you lose RAID Config. I hope to fix it quickly

Of course you lose volumes if you change to AHCI, reboot and back to RAID at least when you have Windows 8/8.1. So now I am slightly confused where the problem is..
And since we gain experience through time, yes you lose RAID when updating BIOS as it automatically gets back to AHCI (default modes). So if you ever want to update BIOS, best is to disconnect HDDs, update BIOS and reconnect them before entering BIOS.
