MSI MPOWER z87 BSOD on boot in RAID mode

Hello, I've just recently added a harddrive and was attempting to set up a raid and encountered this issue. I have 2 ssds - one is the boot drive, second for games, and I have 3 1tb hdd drives which I was attempting to put in a raid5. I installed the third drive today, went in to the BIOS, switched SATA mode to RAID and got an immediate BSOD before even booting to Windows. Previously, I've had the two ssd in a RAID-0 and never had this issue. The ssd are no longer in a RAID, I was hoping to only have the 3 hdd in the raid5. I'm now having to reinstall windows because the error corrupted a system file somewhere and I'm unable to repair it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
My system is:
Windows 7-64bit
MSI MPOWER z87
Intel i7-4770k
8gb corsair vengeance RAM
2 120gb OCZ Vertex 3 SSD
3 1tb WD10ezex HDD
MSI GTX760 GPU
Rosewill Capstone 750W PSU

You cannot just change SATA modes.

Note: one mistake or missing step and you won't be able to boot again.

  • (MSI MPOWER Z87) System Won't Start

Hi, a month ago I built for myself a new PC with MSI MPOWER Z87 motherboard.
For a month it worked fine, but couple of days ago, when I tried to launch it nothing would work, OS doesn't start, fans not working including processor fan. All I see is power button button(on motherboard) lit, OC Switch Led lights (one red and one blue) and Clear CMOS (blue) blinking. Debug led doesn't work either. Can anyone help me to solve this problem, what problem do I have and what can I do to fix it?

HuntKey Green Power 550W     Sounds cheap and unreliable. Haswell also requires slightly different PSU than older systems did, so if possible test something like Corsair, Seasonic, Antec (and similar with GOOD quality and reputation). You could also go to local PC shop/IT services and ask for testing your system with their quality PSU.

  • Msi MPOWER Z87 max AC OC to 4.2 or 4.3 guide?

good day. I just bought a msi mpower max AC with a processor i 4670k, I would take it to a 4.2 or 4.3 screen guide or someone who is like my settings to guide me?. Thank you.

Come on Froggy Gremlin, don't tell me you don't love your Mpower? :D
Well its overkill for the average joe and pc enthusiasts, but its a fresh break from all the red and black themes. :D  I know its not really a rational reasoning since the Gaming Series are great, but isn't she a beauty?
Sorry for the photos, was taken using a mobile phone.

  • MSI-6321 694D Pro2 wont boot past RAID

    Hi,
I have a 694d pro2 with dual P3 933's. The board has been running fine with Windows 2000 Server. The problem I have is that now when it boots, it reaches the onboard RAID configuration then halts. I'm not running any array's nor am I using the controller as a standard IDE controller.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

Does it halt 'after' detecting the drives connected to the RAID array or before-hand ?
If its halting afterwards you may want to try specifying a different boot order in the BIOS. Maybe its looking for a boot condition or component that isn't responding correctly.
When it halts does the system still respond to a CTRL + ALT + DELETE, or do you need to power it off from holding the button down for 4 seconds ?? If its a soft boot then the system 'is' still responding but is just paused. Needing to hard boot it would probably mean its something a little more serious.
I had a slightly similar problem with an IDE ZIP drive hooked up to the onboard (northbridge) IDE connecters on a 6321. No matter what boot order I had the system in it wouldn't get past the onboard promise card. In the end I switched ZIP drive to an A: drive, and swapped the onboard floppy over to the B: drive and vwala .. system happy.
    Hope this helps.

  • WinXP booted after BIOS update cleared RAID setting, now won't boot in RAID mode

I updated the P965 Platinum BIOS to 1.7 and my system stopped booting.  After much experimentation I discovered it would boot if I unplugged the monitor and mouse, so I was able to "upgrade" to 1.6, and it's working again.  However, the first time it booted blind with 1.7 it got all the way to Windows before I realized what happened.
My system was set up with a RAID1 pair, but the BIOS upgrade cleared the SATA mode to IDE, and it booted Windows before I changed it back.  Now Windows won't boot when I set it to RAID.  It complains <windows>/system32/hal.dll is missing or corrupt.  It seems to work (mostly) when I put it back to IDE mode.  How do I get it back to RAID1?

  • Big problem with Mpower z87 + I5 4670K

    Hi
My English is not perfect so i'll be quick :
    Hardware :
    MSI Mpower Z87
    Core i5 4670K
    2x4GO DDR3 2400 1.65V
    EVGA 750W GOLD
    Water cooling
    Ati 7950
    SSD Samsung 120GO
So i'm trying to overclock my 4670K but when my frequency is at 4.2MHZ i am obliged to fix my voltage at 1.320V.
If my voltage is under 1.320V and my frenquency is  4.2MHZ i have a boot loop or a BSOD with code : STOP 0x00000124.
Why me i need to fix my voltage over 1.320 V ???? it is to HIGH for juste 4.2 MHZ......
    Please help me.
    Thx

Doesn't work. I have flash the bios and try to O/C but same problème : boot loop on windows.
Yeah, 42X on the core worked but with a high voltage (1.300 V). On the internet i have see many tests where users run on 45X with a low voltage (1.140 V) Why i need a high voltage ???? and why when i change the voltage to 1.300 + i have a black screen ?? i am desesperate, first time on MSi fore me.....
Leave the CPU V. on Auto. Use the voltage offsets if needed above what gets set by default. Simply the luck-of-the-draw with Intel CPU's. Mine will do 47X on only 1.18v's, but it cooks itself to death. So the alternative? I set mine to 43X as at 45X, the performance was identical at 43X with less heat and voltage being required. If the board works perfect at auto/stock/default, then it isn't the board.

  • Debug code 70 , mpower z87

    Hi,
yesterday a friend of mine bought the mpower z87 mobo and
    everything was fine until today.
The debug leds show the code 70 and the video output doesn't come out.
I'm really desperate and sad for him, I dont know what to do.
    The configuration is:
    msi mpower z87
    i5 4670k
    corsair cx750
    samsung evo 840
    msi gtx 770 lightning

thanks for the reply.. but I knew that the 70 code means Late South Bridge Inizialization
but I didn't know what does it mean .
Anyway we tried with only 1 RAM plugged and the debug code sometimes is A2 (Ide detected) sometimes A0 or A3.
With 2 RAMs the code is 99 (Super IO Inizialization).
We also tried to unplug the video card and the hdd and do the CMOS, with no results    .
    little update:
the computer now turns on but after 3 mins turns itself off...

  • MPower Z87 Power connectors

Recently put together a new PC build using a MSI MPower z87, but my power supply (BFG 1250watt - modular) only had one lead for the 8pin power connection for the board.  I tried to use a different connector that the power supply had plenty of, a 6pin + 2 pin that was the same size and shape with the +2 connected, but when I attempted to power on, the thinner wire to the +2 portion melted.  Did this hurt the board? and Is it safe to run the board with only one of the two 8 pin power connectors connected?  (JPWR1 and JPWR2) I do have the larger JPWR3 connected (the one above the SATA connectors).
I'm guessing I'll need to get a new power supply, the BFG one I have is a bit old, from a 2009 build, which may be why it only has one ATX 8pin connector.  Can anyone recommend a power supply that defiantly has 2 (or more) 8 pin ATX power connectors?
    Thanks

that may have fried the board as a 8 pin CPU power connector has different pins (a live and a ground on the side) but a 8 pin PCI-E power connector has 2 grounds there so you may have blown something on the board or damaged the PSU itself if your unlucky!
try with just one 8pin CPU power connector and and hope to hell you haven't blown something and you lucked out there and haven't damage something (It only needs one unless your using LN2 cooling and doing massive overclocks and huge over voltage's to push the CPU way above its design limits)!
also if you have damaged something and its broke your in a bad position here as you will have voided the warranty as its classed as user error because you made the mistake of convecting that!

  • MSI MPOWER MAX Z87 - RAID failure after BIOS update (settings reset)

I use the integrated intel RAID controller to create a 2 disk RAID-0 6TB (2x3TB), but everytime I update the BIOS, there is a RAID failure.
It does not matter if I use Live Update or the Update BIOS+ME option of the BIOS menu. All settings are lost, and after the boot the RAID controller is deactivated due to that. I go to BIOS right after the auto-reboot and re-enter my settings (RAID instead of AHCI), but the intel controller only sees 1 disk as a RAID member. Recovery option is not active when I enter the controller options (control+I). I always need to delete and recreate the RAID, which of course loses all data.
    Very frustrating!
Am I doing the update wrong? I know I did it once and settings were not reset, my RAID was kept intact, but I believe it was only 1 time of 4 or 5 updates I did to my MPOWER MAX.

Hi, thanks for trying to help!
    - I use Windows 8.1.
    - My vga does not support UEFI so I use... legacy mode? (I'm not that familiar with BIOS->UEFI yet, sorry.)
    - According to Intel RST, the RAID HDDs are on ports 2 and 3.
    - This time the update was from 1.80 to 1.90.
1.70 to 1.80 also resulted in the same problem, but I used LiveUpdate.
For previous updates, I don't remember but I sometimes I used LiveUpdate, sometimes the BIOS feature.
I'm pretty sure that only once the RAID was kept intact, and I don't remember the versions or method I used, but I believe I used the BIOS method (don't know if needed BIOS+ME or not), not LiveUpdate.

  • Msi z87 g45 infinite boot loop

Hey everyone, i just purchases all my new components including msi's z87 g45 motherboard. When trying to start the computer it turns on one second and then off again, and that goes on until i turn off the psu. I tried a lot of things like different RAM sticks and different dimms, and even with only the cpu and psu attached to the motherboard it still does the same:( Now ive read a lot of things, but at another forum i read that the i5 4670k is only supported by a bios v1.1 My g45 motherboard says it has v1.0... So cud that be the problem or shud that not matter? suggestions please :(
    My system:
    i5 4670k
    z87 g45
    xfx pro 650w
    crucial ballistix 2x4gb
    msi gtx 770 lightning

Clarify what board you have. Is it Z87-G45 GAMING? If so it lists 1.1 is required indeed. None the less it has been released with Haswell and the first release Haswell cpus (like 4670k) should be supported with any bios out of the box (even 1.0). I doubt that bios version could be the problem as it would be impossible to flash then as there is not even any older cpu that is officially supported with 1.0.
Try reseating cpu and check socket for bent pins. Also try running board outside case with just basic components.

  • [SOLVED] Configuring SPDIF for MSI Mpower MAX

    Hi people of the Arch,

I have read the Wiki here Advanced_Linux_Sound_Architecture
Also, I've been Googling and searching here on the forum, I've followed some steps but none seem to 'sound' right.
What I have not done is creating an asoundrc file with my setup, I believe that I can test if it works first, before I create such a file. Like to hear if this is right.

    Try this one, v1.2B8;
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=169759.msg1240621#msg1240621
Mine originally came with v1.1 and had no problem booting or restarting problem of holding settings above stock/auto/default.

What happens is that it will make it past the start orbs and I see the mouse with a black background and then it BSODs. The computer restarts again and then boots properly.
Usually an indicator a voltage isn't high enough. OC settings don't sound stable. Might open a thread in the OC and Undervolt forum section for help with that. I've stayed away from the DRAM Training (left it as is) and reached 2800 without any trouble. Not all IMC's are going to handle that speed though from what I've been reading. All my benchmarks so far are showing RAM speed above 1600 adds little performance value.

  • MSI Mpower Max 4770k Help tweek it

    Hi there,
this is my first seriouse MSI board in last 3years and i have encountered few problems with overclock
    My Pc Specs are:

    Intel SSD 510 250GB
    Seagate Barracuda 3TB
    Samsung F4 2TB
    Corsair 650D
all day passed and i am a bit tired of seeing bios and bsods
i think i got the lazy chip help me understand it better and learn things on the way.
this is most stable i got.
    Bios E7815IMS.133
    CPU ratio: x44
    Ratio: Fixed
    Ring: x39
    Vcore 1.25v Offset 0.015V
    Svid comm. Enabled
from digitall i changed only CPU Vdrop to 100%
Ram set on xmp and manualy entered timings and voltage and speed 1600
With this i pass AIDA 64 stress test for 30min no problem
    cinebench pass
when i open Prime95 Blend test 15min pass and bsod..
Temps were 80-85c with room 25c
Everything else in bios is set to default (auto)
Any tips how to tweek it more?
i tried x45 with settings as above i boot into windows pass cinebench but crash on aida64.
i also tryed just x46 with voltage bump up to 1.28v with offset 0.015
I will be deliding as soon as my h220 arrives and CLU.
Also is there some special USB so i can take the screenshots?
i tried all the ports different flashes also formated to FAT32 and NTFS same its saying no usb dongle..
When i put my WD 2TB HDD it recognize it but when i want to save the Screenshot it gives this message
    "allocate file system resource fail"
I would post Screanshots but as i mentioned above its annoying problem..
    Thanks in advance guys.
    Edit:
just to see if i have lazy chip i tryed 1.3v with settings above and x47-48 wont even post.... :(
    found flash that is working

    ok i tryed this also
Internal VR efficiency management - disabled in screanshots its enabled
with this i am able to make 30mind aida with no crash temps a bit high but can be managed, i boot into windows with this vcore and x45 but unstable during aida 10min bsod
i boosted the voltage to 1.275 with offset 0.015v and got me 20min aida then bsod. any way i can tweek it more?

  • K9A2 CF cold boot and RAID problem

    Hi,
I am struggling with my mobo regarding recent cold boot issues and the problem to set up RAID on the SB600 chipset.
    Here's my rig's description:
MSI K9A2 CF rev 2 (I believe because of the red heatsink) with the latest available bios flashed using the forum's tool.
Phenom 9850 BE (stock, never OCed) cooled down with Asetek closed-circuit watercooling.
    2x Radeon 4850 1 Gb crossfire
4 Gigs of RAM (Nandya Technology)
HDD WD velociraptor 150 go, WD black caviar 640 go, 2x WD 1 To green caviar all drives are SATA-2
1 PCI SiI 3512 sata controller for the sata ODD drives (DVD + DVD burner)
    PSU is advent 750 W
OS: Vista 64 bits home premium working with AHCI drivers
So here is the deal: the system has been running fine for about a year.
I recently bought two 1 To HDD to set up a RAID 1 for backup purpose. The goal is to run the velociraptor as system disk (which it is currently) in raid 0+1 jobd (say standalone), the WD 640 go as data disk raid 0+1 jobd (say standalone) and the two 1To as raid one array from the SB600 onboard controller.
So I flashed the bios to make sure I would have the latest raid rom. The flash was performed with the forum's flasher without a problem, followed by a load defaults and a clear CMOS to be on the safe side.
Since then, I have random cold boot problems. I fire it up, all leds and drives are on, but no post and nothing on screen, not to mention no beeps whatsoever. I already checked the connections, mobo condensators... everything looks ok. The system was bought pre-built and was working flawlessly beforehand. I need to power it off manually and restart it once to a few times and then it post and boots to the OS without a problem.
Is there any specific option I should look for in the bios to change that? I assume I might have made a wrong configuration at some point.
Concerning the RAID problem I cannot access the SB600 onboard Fastbuild utility as long as the PCI sata controller is plugged in --> I get the "Not enough space to load PCI rom" error message. Without the PCI card I can access Fastbuild and define arrays without a glitch. But if I disconnect the card, I no longer have optical drives
Does anyone have a clue how to use the SB600 in raid mode along with a PCI sata controller?
Also, when RAID is setup, arrays defined and all HDDs recognized by the bios, is there a way to make Vista load the raid driver without reinstalling from scratch? For now I can use SATA drives in AHCI mode but get a BSOD whenever I try booting from RAID.
I know that's a lot of questions but I could really use some help. I have been roaming the web and could not find anything.
Thanks in advance for your insight.
    Cheers

This is common problem with boot-roms, the BIOS can't handle multiple of them, only 1 if you use raid.
So disable the PCI-Sata bootrom or disable the RAID.
This is a BIOS limitation, nothing you can do about it.
AHCI is a type of RAID also.
What you see is normal, the BIOS doesn't have enough hooks to put a Boot-rom in, and exspecially the RAID MUST need one to function.
Other solution is to use Windows software raid and put the RAID controller in normal-mode.
You won't notice the speed difference anyway as the onboard is a soft-raid as well, but then done in the BIOS, however in both cases it's the CPU that must handle them.

  • Bios Update = BSOD on Boot

Had a new one and I'm in the middle of repairing my windows install right now so I can at least backup.
Updated to the new Bios due to a few minor issues I was experiencing and suddenly I load windows to a BSOD (before boot even completes) to a reboot (before I can even see the BSOD error) and loop.
Tried dropping back to 1.1, no success.  Did everything I can think of, but I can't drop to one drive as I'm running RAID 0 and have stuff to back up...
Just one big headache at the moment.  I've done thousands of bios updates and never had a situation like this.......
EDIT: Adding System Config since my sig is dead temporarily....
    MSI K9A Platinum
    AMD X2 4600+ AM2
    2 x 1GB Crucial PC-4300 DDR2
2 x 160GB Samsung SATA II in Raid 0 Configuration
    PowerColor ATI Radeon X1900XTX 512MB
    HP DVD-RW Drive
    Dual Samsung 940B LCD Monitors
Logitech DiNovo Media Desktop Laser - Bluetooth

Life is fun.  I dumped the system today and went to do a reinstall and believe I now know where the problem started.
During the reinstall I attempted to use my original ATI Raid disk I made when I first recieved the board (based on catalyst 6.8 I believe).  BSOD during install with a driver error....
So I tried the ones currently on MSI's site (6.9) and BSOD again during install.
    All driver related....
So, I downloaded 6.10 cats from ATI and extracted them to pull the drivers......
    Installing fine now.
