MSI MS-7100 K8N Diamond/Platinum SLI & MS-7125 K8N Neo4 Platinum Bios and Tools

Hello !!
The Bios configuration depends on many factors.....but we do not know anything about your configuration. ( CPU, RAM, Powersupply.....)
If you need HDD Speed, RAID 0 will be a good Option and you should consider it.
Both Controllers, Silicon Image & nvidia, have the same speed. But i think you can not attach Optical drives to the Silicon Image Controller. ( if someone has other experiance please post )

    ChakkaSol,
    1) You mean u didn't write it down
It is strange because I usually write down everything...even the serial number for the amd winchester chip (cbbid0509)...oh well.

Well if you can't see the serial number, then yes. (I never write that crap down)
No, you don't have to purchase anything, it's just the upgrade, looks like there might be more modifications needed that expected, for them to go to this trouble.
NEVER send them anything other than the board, you won't get it back! I don't recommend sending the board wrapped as a present or whatever master plan you may be cooking. It should be in a motherboard box, with the antistatic bag. If you don't have another box, then the original will have to do. You can always go to a local shop and ask if they have an extra box, or make a custom one..
Hey Glenn, you dont think they would appreciate it giftwrapped?
No but thanks for the info...cant I just put it in a UPS box inside an antistatic bag?  And Russ, I did keep the orginal box but for the life of me I cant find the label they talk about.  So I guess does it really matter if I send it back in the original box or just a box from my local UPS/Mailboxes store?

  • K8N Neo4-FX BIOS versions

I have been trying to get Cool'N'Quiet working on my K8N Neo4-FX.  I have the latest firmwire according to the MSI site (3.2 09.09.2005).  I for the life of me cannot find the setting in the BIOS to turn Cool'n'Quiet on.  At first I figured that I didn't need to turn it on, but after installing the AMD driver, Cool'N'Quiet refused to do its thing, so I guess the BIOS is at fault.
Are there any beta firmwares about?  Do MSI put them up on their main site?    What is the difference between the Neo4-FX and the Neo4-F, as they both seem to share the MS-7125 model number.  Can I use the 1.B firmware on the Neo4-FX......  Too many questions I know....

  • K8N Neo4-F Bios issue

anyone know of a setting in the bios for the K8N Neo4-F mobo to have it display the option "press any key to boot from cd"    the issue i'm running into is i try and install windows on my harddrive.. it does the initial steps just fine, then after it loads the setup files, it needs a reboot.  However, after it reboots, it boots right into the same steps i just did.  So basically i'm getting stuck in a loop of formating/installing setup stuff
any help would be greatly appreciated

go into BIOS and setup as 1st boot device your HDD.(where OS will be installed)
then boot from CD-ROM (hit "F8" or "F11") to popup selection after post. and choice CD/DVD from there. proceed with XP installation as usual. after reboot installation should continue from your HDD.

  • MOVED: MSI-7100 K8N NEO4/SLI + AMD OPTERON 185

This topic has been moved to Older MSI motherboards.

    http://www.passmark.com/download/pt_download.htm
Download and run whichever one is applicable to your OS.
That tests entire system but you can compare overall & individual results for each CPU.
It's fairly common for each core to run at slightly different speeds and therefore show different temps as well.
Except for speed the specs are same for both of them but individual samples can vary slightly for voltage and such within those specs.
Core voltage (V)   1.3 / 1.35 for both of them.

  • MSI-7100 K8N NEO4/SLI + AMD OPTERON 185

Hi I upgrade from opty 180 to 185. The system is stable but task manager shows that there is a different between core's loading and also there is a difference at temps (HWMonitor) for about 3-4 degrees.
    1) I have to make a format? (Win 7 64)
    2) I must update the bios?
I have heard that the best (stable) bios the for my MOBO is (v5.0 Beta 6)
Also I heard that some versions (bios) bottleneck.. undervolt pci-e ? Is that true?
    Thanks!

  • K8N Neo4 Plat, SATA2 and Shutdown Problem...

    Hi, new here.
Glad to have a board like this to ask some questions to other users.
Purchased the board a few months ago, and apart from the      noisy NB fan, all was ok.
Then recently bought a 200GB SATA2 drive (see specs in signature).
Since its installation, but not before, I've had a systematic shutdown and reboot problem: the shutdown proceeds as usual, the "Windows is shutting down" and "Saving preferences" dialogs come and then disapear... but then only the mouse cursor is left on blank screen (it can even be moved), and the shutdown process doesn't go further; after several minutes I just shut it down with the power button.
The event logs don't show anything problematic.
    A few more details:
My drivers are the most recent (official) from MSI.
I've installed Win2000 in ACPI Uniprocessor PC Mode.
The drive is recognized as a sata2 device.
I use the SATA#1 (nVidia) port.
I've put the pagefile on that drive.
Nothing is overclocked, CoreCenter is disabled.
I've installed the UPH Clean tool from Microsoft, but that didn't help.
    Memory passed lengthy memtest session.
Strangely, the SATA2 drive appears in the "Unplug or Eject Hardware" list in the tray, usually reserved for connectable devices (USB, etc): is that normal? (I'm new to sata drives)
I've searched this board for similar problems, but they seemed to be mostly in RAID context, which isn't the case for my system.
Any idea what might be the problem ? Anyone experienced the same problem (non-RAID) ?
Apart from above problem, drive seems to function normally.
    Thanks in advance.

@gerasimatos: maybe he used xsetup? didn't try it yet, will have a look. In the BIOS, all RAID-related settings are disabled.
@kakarocht: the power managment in the BIOS has the default settings.
Will try to change a few params here and there.
I have not tried yet other ports on nVidia controllers.
I may eventually try the Sil ports, in last resorts, BUT I would prefer to solve this issue with nVidia ports first (I think at the price we pay these things we shouldn't be precluded from half the SATA ports!     )
I tried to list as much relevant specs as I could in the signature and post. Here are others:
memory used at 2.5-3-3-7 1T setting (memtest passed)
    regular ps/2 keyboard
    ms intellimouse (using ps/2 connection)
the asus graphic card used in single monitor mode (recent drivers)
when I said "CoreCenter" disabled above, meant "Cool'n'Quiet" disabled (not stressing system yet, so 'cool' isn't an issue; as for quiet, if the board can't lower the NB fan speed, it's a non-issue!!!)
    using on-board sound-card
using onboard gigabit port for internet connection
    no other peripherals installed presently
hard drives temps stay under 40 C (not stressing system lately)
I removed DigiCell and CoreCenter from loading at startup (don't need them for now)
closing firewall (zonelalarm) before shutdown didn't help (although didn't try unloading the service yet)
... what else might be of help to list?...
Again, I'd like to know if it's normal that a SATA2 hd drive appear in the "Unplug and Eject Hardware" tray icon list; I wasn't expecting that, but I'm new to this kind of connection.

  • K8N Neo4 - strange post and bios operations

I have just built this system from new parts and upon switching on for the first time the system posted but i forgot to have the keyboard plugged in. Plugged in keyboard and pressed delete to enter set up. Changed system time and date - fine no problem. But when i try to go into other bios settings the screen freezes and nothing works.
When i turn on and off system tries to post but get stuck on screen that is checking components
When i turn off and back on without keyboard the system will post and goes to screen that say press delete to enter setup or F1 to continue. Sometimes it gets stuck there when plugging the keyboard in and sometimes it lets me go into bios settings before freezing.
Has anybody else experienced this or any ideas what i should do.
I have not yet installed OS, so could this make a difference.
    Many thanks
    Jamie

It can run from CD or floppy in DOS.
Here are instructions for floppy method:-
    Quote
      + Run from floppydisk
Memtest86+ is directly executable by any modern x86 compatible machine, by
writing the bootable binary to a floppy disk one can boot from the disk to
        run memtest.
Simply download the appropriate package, the Pre-Compiled Bootable Binary
(.gz) package for Linux users and the Pre-Compiled package for Floppy (DOS
        - Win) for Windows users.
For Windows, unzip the package into a directory like C:\memtest, insert a
blank floppy into your a: disk drive and run the install.bat file. As the
install prompts you, to use memtest directly, leave the disk in the drive
        and reboot your machine.
For Linux, unpack the package into your home directory, insert a blank
floppy into your floppy drive and execute 'dd if=~/memtest+-1.xx.bin.gz
of=/dev/fd0 conv=osync' replacing 1.xx with the correct version number of
the memtest86+ you downloaded. To run memtest immediately reboot your
        machine.
Your machine should now boot from the disk, display the word Loading
folowed by a series of periods and then show a screen much like the
screenshots on the memtest86+ web page. The test is automatically started.
If your machine simply boots back into Windows/Linux you will most likely
have to configure your BIOS to attempt to boot from floppy disk on
startup, refer to your computer's/mainboard's manual how to do this.
When you are done testing simply remove the floppy and reset your
computer, if ever you want to execure the test again simply reinsert the
        disk and reboot/start your computer.

  • K8N Neo4-F board and BIOS

    Hi everybody,
I was tempted to upgrade to BIOS v1.A recently from v1.6.  I multi-boot my machine between WIndows XP Home and various Linux (2.6 Series kernels) distros.  Before flashing the newer BIOS, my cpu frequency governer (using AMD's POWERNOW) was working perfect.  Is there a way I can completely revert back to BIOS v1.6.  Whenever I start my PC, it says it cannot use POWERNOW since it is not supported by the BIOS table.

Use floppy drive flash method (following stickies on this forum) to reflash back to the last bios that worked.  Good luck.

  • K8N Neo4 Platinum/SLI only showint 2.75Gb ram with 4Gb installed WinXP64

    Hi there,
I have an MSI-7100 K8N Neo4 Platinum SLI, and I noticed that under WindowsXP Pro 64-bit, only 2.75 of the 4Gb installed are used by Windows.
Is there something I'm doing wrong? My RAM is identical GEIL Single-Channel PC3200 1Gb DDR, four of them.

    Hi,
You need toenable the Hardware memory Re-Map Option.
You may need the latest bios - I only have a Neo2, so I don't know if/when ReMap was added to the Neo4.
Also... it's possible you also need a Rev E CPU for hardware re-mapping to work.

  • K8N Neo4 Platinum SLI memory incompatibility

Sorry if it is an duplicated post, but i'm in a hurry and can't find nothing about this subject.
I'm sure i'm not the first to have this problem.
My memory (Samsung DDR 400Mhz - 512Mb) does not work on my MB. Though a friend of mine has a generic type 256 and it works just fine. With my memory the computer doesn't turn on, and start that beeping thing...
I hope you guys won't worry about bad english (I'm brazilian).
    Thanks.

    Hi again,
Well, if your RAM works fine on that computer, you can do some things to clear things up between your RAM and your Mainboard. You will need your friend's RAM once more to do this, as yours refuses to work yet:
    1. First of all, and I know it seems a little dumb, make sure your RAM is installed correctly. As you may know by now, DDR RAM only fits in one way. If installed correcly, you should barely see the gold contacts of your RAM.
    2. Try to find out if your RAM is supported by your K8N Neo4 Platium, by reading the Test Report :
    http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_trp_detail.php?UID=637
If SAMSUNG memory is listed there, it will appear as "SEC". Please note however, that many memory manufacturers use SAMSUNG chips for their memory sticks, so it may be a memory stick made by Kingston, Corsair, GoldenRAM, Spectek, etc. or even be a Generic Brand.
    3. If you have not updated your K8N Neo4 Platium BIOS yet, this could be a good time to do it. Be sure to:
    * Find, download and use ONLY the correct BIOS for your mainboard. For that look for it by using two IDs: The Mainboard Model (K8N Neo4 Platium ) and the mainboard Model Number (MS-????). You will find these numbers between the PCI slots of your mainboard, write them exactly as they appear there and then look for a BIOS update for that specific model.
    * Prepare, in a NEW floppy disk, a BIOS rescue disk, just in case something go wrong during the process. To do so, please read : http://www.msi.com.tw/html/support/bios/note/boot.htm
    * Be sure to disable any BIOS WRITE PROCTECT function your board may have. It could be a hardware protection (via jumper) or a software protection (via BIOS)
If its a hardware protection, set your jumper to WRITE ENABLE. If a software protection, set the BIOS WRITE PROTECT feature to DISABLED. If you can't find this feature, or don't know where are they located, please check your mainboard manual for it, and follow the instructions to disable the BIOS WRITE Protection, before attempting to flash the new BIOS.
    * Run the BIOS update from a DOS prompt if possible. For that, use a NEW floppy disk, as old disks may just fail in the middle of the operation and you may end with a useless mainboard.
    * Do not power off or reset your PC during this process or you may also end with a useless mainboard.
    * If you can connect your computer to a working UPS before attemping to flash the new BIOS, it would be great, as it will continue to supply power to your computer in the remote event of a power failure (Blackout or "Apagon" in spanish)
    * VERY IMPORTANT : Let the process to FINISH by itself. It may take a while, but please do not reset or power off your PC. Just power of or reset your computer ONLY when the Flash Utility directs you to do so.
    4. Once you have flashed the most recent BIOS to your K8N Neo4 Platinum mainboard, try your memory again. It may work now. If it doesn't then you could be right about some incompatibility between your RAM and your mainboard.
For now this is all I can suggest you. It doesn't appears to be a Power Supply Unit (PSU) related problem as your mainboard works well with your friend's RAM.
Well I hope this helps a little.
    Good luck!

  • Upgraded my K8N Neo4 nForce 4 with a Platinum BIOS!

I surfed the MSI website looking for an update for my MSI K8N-NEO4-F motherboard, and downloaded and executed the file.
However, when i rebooted, I was met with a Platinum screen - and I don't own the Platinum version! There were some differences in the Bios, but nothing major.
To fix this, I found the original BIOS file on the CD I got with the motherboard and exececuted it. But I'm still met with that Platinum screen!
I'm not sure whether this is unhealthy or not, because the computer runs about the same way it did before the flash.

Don't worry.  There have been other posts about this.  They are basically the same boards the Neo4 line, so you will see the Plat. name at the bootup screen with each BIOS update.
