MSI MS-7508 "OVERCLOCKING HAS FAILED"

Hi, i have a question about my motherboard that is made by MSI. I have a MSI MS-7508 and every time i turn off the computer and turn it back on the bios tells me that previous over clocking has failed press any key to continue...
If I do press a key to continue it does load windows. I am running a AMD Athlon X2 5600+ (2.9 GHZ) with a PCI PNY 8400 GS 512 mb 2.5 gbs of ram ddr2 3 sticks 2 1gb 1 512 mb. 360 gb sata Western Digital hard drive 360 watt power supply with windows xp professional 32 bit I have never over clocked ANYTHING in fact i don't even touch the bios because i was afraid something like this would happen. My PC is custom built and was built by a friend of mine. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? Thanks, Mike

2.5 gbs of ram ddr2 3 sticks 2 1gb 1 512 mb.
Mixing memory sticks speed/type/quantity is asking for troubles. Also 3 sticks isn't supported combination.
Take out the the "1 512 mb" then see how its goes,
also place the remaining sticks in proper DIMM slots check mainboard manual about it.

360 watt power supply
this also doesn't look good.
look for details over the PSU sticker

I just built this computer two months ago and it was running perfect. Then I started getting a black BIOS screen when ever I turned the computer on. It said "Warning! Previous overclocking has failed. Press F1 to go to set up. F2 to reset settings and continue." This confused me because I have never put it into overclock. Soon after when I tried to turn my computer back on it would not boot. It tries to boot up several times and only the fans spin. The only way to stop it is to turn the power switch on the psu off. After all this occurred my psu would no longer work either. I sent both my mobo and psu in for warranty and just now got the new ones back. I put it all together and it was working perfectly. A few days later the same message came up again "Warning! The previous overclocking has failed. Press F1 to go to set up. F2 to reset settings and continue." I reset it to the defaults and all the BIOS are updated but it has happened again. My computer will no longer start up but my psu is still functioning at least this time. I have reset the CMOS, tried one stick of RAM, took the comp apart made sure everything was firmly in place and put it back together, and tried unplugging everything but the basics but still the same issue fans run and it keeps trying to start up over and over and never boots. I refuse to believe that this mobo is broken because it is brand new. I was wondering if there is some sort of compatibility issue or voltage problem but I can't figure out what to do. Please someone give me some help. It is very much appreciated.

Thanks but I finally figured out the problem. The socket is set to 1333MHz and I have my RAM at 1600MHz. I just had to manually clock it higher becasue that is overclocked.

  • MSI K9A2 CPU Error. Failed Overclocking....

hi, i was wondering if anyone can help me this this random problem i jus encountered.
I own a MSI K9A2 platinum MB and i have never gotten any problems with it until now.
when my pc boots up i get an error in red saying "Warning!! The previous performance of overclocking is failed. the default setting has been restored, press any key except del to enter setup"
however when i try to press any key it doesnt work. nothing i do worked. at first i thought there was a missconnection with the keyboard because it was wirless so then i tried a wired 1. and still nothing works. i even connected the USB keyboard to the PS/2 pin connector using a adapter but still nothing works.
i donno if there is a misconnection wit my keyboard or if my CPU has blown out. but i dont ever remember overclocking my CPU. i have no clue how this problem happened. does anyone know where i should take it form here? any help will be appreciated . thank you.

  • Another Overclock is failed thread! X

    Hi all,
As usual a first post from a newbie who "hopefully" has a simple problem.
I have seen several threads with my board and the following text.
" Warning!!! the previous performance of overclocking is failed, and the system is restored to default setting. press any key except "del" to enter setup....."
And I have done most of the recommended things, 1 stick of memory etc. etc.. and I am now thinking that its the bios....
I'm pretty sure all is plugged in correctly, I have found that there are two types of E8400 on the MSI website, one is supported in bios 7.0 and the other says 7.2 or under test. I can't find the page at the moment to confirm.
I got the error message straight away once plugged in, so I have tried all the usual tricks like "underclocking" to see if that does any good and I did manage to get the system to start installing windose, right up until It needed to reboot, now I get the overclock failed message every time no matter what it try?
At the moment the board is not in a case, just sitting on the desk with the bare minimum plugged in to get it working.
    So my questions are
    1. How can I tell what version of E4800 I have or if the chip I have needs 7.0 or 7.2?
    2. if its 7.0 what am I doing wrong?
    3. if it is 7.2 how do I flash the bios without being able to boot to windose and without an a: drive?
If I have missed any info please ask as I am really please with this board, its about 5000 times quieter than my last one!

    1. How can I tell what version of E[84]00 I have
You can tell by looking at the sSpec-Number:
    E8400, C0 --> sSpec# = SLAPL [supported since BIOS v7.0]
    E8400, E0 --> sSpec# = SLB9J  [supported since BIOS v7.2]
The sSpec-number can be found on the CPU itself or on the sticker of the CPU box:
This picture shows an E8500, but it is for comparison only and should tell you where to look:

  • MSI P31 Neo-F V2 - Fails to Boot

I've got an MSI P31 Neo-F V2 motherboard that I've had for about about 16 months now. Unfortunately today it's just started failing to boot correctly.
I turned the machine on and was greeted with a red error message just after the usb controller was initalized. The message said "Warning !!! The previous performance of overclocking is failed and the system is restored to the default settings. Press any key except "DEL" to enter SETUP......."
I haven't overclocked the machine (don't know how) so I'm not quite sure why that error message was coming up. Anyway, I pressed space, that prompted me to restore settings which I did, then took me to setup where I saved and exited. Then tried to restart the machine. From this point on (about 30 restarts) I've had that message twice. Normally it does one of the following:
    a) Powers up, no bleeps, no video output. Sits there waiting.
    b) Powers up for a few seconds, then powers straight back down. Waits about 10 seconds, then repeats. Eventually after enough retries it will reach the some point as (a).
I've tried disconnecting power, I've tried taking the CMOS battery out. The last time I got to the error message my USB keyboard wouldn't even work so I couldn't do anything but restart. If anyone has any suggestions on what to do then fire away, as I'm really stuck now
I don't know what version of the BIOS I'm running as I can't get that far anymore. Apart from the CPU which I'm not sure is important? (Intel Duo 3Ghz) I'm not sure on much more info on my system.
    Thanks.
    Ian

Ok, I've managed to find an old photo of the Bios.
Bios: A7392IMS V2.1 080608 is the number top left.
    CPU : Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0Ghz
    Gfx : 512Mb NiVidia GeForce 9800GTX+
Mem:  2 X 2GB DDR 2 800 MHz (will try and find out brand).
H/D : 2 * 160Gb drives. One is Seagate, the other Western Digital, both SATA 2.
OS : XP not that it's really relevant...
PSU : 800W. Don't know brand and DC current output. Will try to get these.

  • Alternative to MSI drivers with overclock settings too! (UPDATED)

    Hello all,
Well, this has been posted a lot and I just wanted it here plain as day so we don't have to keep posting with this same answer.
Many times, due to poor configuration. or any number of reasons the MSI drivers overclocking can be a bit on the buggy side, Coolbits is one of the best basic alternatives, and what you should be using anyway for overclocking and setting your card's options, however, in some cases the MSI drivers may be the only thing that works for your sytem, so this may not be for you, the only way to tell is to try it and see.
Of course there are other utilities like Riva Tuner and nVtweak, that can take settings to another level of tweakdom, but for simplicity purposes Coolbits is the basics.
    Driver Information
Download the latest Drivers from the nVidia Website. Again, you may have to search the internet for a previous version that works better for your configuration. you can go to http://driverheaven.net where they have a whole archive full of previous versions.
Also, you can go directly to nVidia's FTP site and get all the past versions here ftp://download1.nvidia.com/windows
While you are at Driverheaven, download and install the utility called Driver Cleaner, or go directly to the site dedicated to the utility http://www.drivercleaner.net
Read and follow the instructions that come with this utility PLEASE.
QI have MSI drivers installed but the Tabs are still present in Display Properties, how do I remove them?
A MSI's clock tabs are controlled by msicpl.dll and will not removed, you will manually have to eradicate the file yourself. It should be in the windows directory but if you cannot find it just do a search.
Keep in mind that XP's System Restore can also complicate things, while I won't recommend disabling it, it's something to think about.

With the intoduction of MSI's DOT Overclocking DOT Explained utility, some of the guesswork is taken out of the art of overclocking your card, however, don't assume that it is safe. Overclocking in ANY case can damage hardware if not done properly. One must take proper measures in cooling, and become educated in the dynamics of overclocking in order to get the best results. Just remember that heat shortens the life of any component, overclocking simply accelerates it. Liken it to smoking, one will most likely have a shorter lifespan, or have health problems. Some may live a normal lifespan, but the former is usually the case.

Now finally to enable the simple bare bones overclocking abilities of the drivers using Coolbits...
Download the attached file and extract the .reg file to your desired location. Then, just doubleclick on the .reg file, this will enable the extra options including the Core and RAM settings for your card.
PM me if you think there are any changes that might need to be made, I will consider it.

I get this error almost everytime i turn off or restart my computer. Thats after I restart my computer 5 times because all I have is a black screen. I read about it and I have to restart that many times as a safety feature for when you overclock and something goes wrong. But my problem is, I am not overclocking, I have reformatted and reset my bios SEVERAL times, so what must i do to make my computer "stop overclocking" its self everytime I restart my computer?

  • "Warning!!! The previous performance of overclocking is failed..PLEASE HELP!

So I woke up this morning and my computer was cycling on and off. I unplugged it, waited a minute, plugged it back in. I booted up and got the "Warning!!! The previous performance of overclocking is failed and the system restored to the default settings...." and it gave me 2 options. So I chose the revert to default and enter settings. The main problem was it kept not recognizing my SSD drive as primary boot. So I changed it to primary, rebooted and got the quick on/off cycling.
So I get on my laptop and google it, I find it's a common issue. Seems like there is a memory issue, sure enough I log into settings and switch it to 1600 speed, enable XMS, reorder the boot priority again, enable ACHI, I also turned off the OC genie. I reboot again and it takes a while but it finally boots up. It takes a few minutes to get into the desktop and load the various start up items.
I can tell it's very sluggish though. Normally if I open any windows it's instant. I open up Chrome, and it's slow, it won't scroll up/down smoothly, it sorta stutters. I tried to open a video and it won't play it, like there's not enough CPU to handle anything. When I reboot it takes a little longer to get into Windows as well. Any suggestions? Did I maybe miss a setting in BIOS? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    BIOS 1.6,
    XP 32-bit
    AMD 1090T 3.2ghz
    msi GTX460 Twin Frozr II
    4gb DDR-1333
I have a number of these machines, but I want to overclock the one on my desk for Folding At Home.
The dip-switch overclocking does work, and is reported by the O/S and the BIOS correctly.  It has huge fans, CPU runs very cool (34°C max at sustained 100% load) at 3520mhz (+10%, 220 base clock) so I believe I can run it up more.  It has been stable at these settings running 100% 24/7 for two weeks straight.
    Problems:
The msi Control Center application has no effect whatsoever on actual speed or voltage.  Validated through benchmarking.
Within the BIOS, I cannot select base CPU clock or voltage to adjust them, they are grayed out.  I can adjust the multiplier, but it becomes unstable at all multipliers past 16x (stock).
I want to increase voltage 10%, then try to get it stable at 20% base clock boost (3.8ghz)
What path should I take to get control over the voltage and base clock?
    Thanks in advance.

What have you done so far in attempts to increase voltage and bclk?
Will or are you folding GPU also and if so what do you have the clock speed set to on it?
Tried BIOS, msi Control Panel, AMD Overdrive.  Folding with msi GTX460 at 900mhz base, 1800mhz memory, 1.087v, very stable = ~14.5k PPD.
I ended up doing a BIOS reset, then VOILA, I can change volts and base again.  Must be a bug in the BIOS.
Turned up to 220 base, 18x multiply, 10% up on volts.  Running Kingston DDR3-1333 at 10% overclock stable.  3.96 ghz.
Seems to all be working fine (famous last words), I'll let it churn and burn over the weekend.  Current SMP + GPU pairing is 27.5k PPD.  CPU temp is now 40°C, GPU is 40°C as well.
Turning on GPU makes the SMP take a big hit.  It goes from 3:30 TPF (6076) up to 4:20 with the GPU running in tandem.  Might think of turning off one core?

  • I was updating Firefox from version 6 to version 7, after updating I tried to open Firefox and the message I got is this: This application has failed to start because xul.dll was not found. How can I fix this?

I was updating Firefox to the newest version 7.0.1 from version 6.0.2 I think it was, I clicked the restart Firefox button that always comes up after updating. It started updating and then Firefox never restarted like it was supposed to after it was done updating. I then tried to open Firefox and it told me "This application has failed to start because xul.dll was not found." I did have Firefox crash on maybe about 30 minutes or so earlier which bothered me because I have been using Firefox for years and never had it crash on me before but I didn't think much of it at the time it happened because I was able to go back onto Firefox and finish what I had been working on. A while later I checked for updates and updated. The first time I tried to update it didn't work though so I had to shutdown Firefox and reopen Firefox and start the update a second time. It was after the second time that when I tried to open Firefox I got that message about failing to start because xul.dll can't be found. I filed a crash report when my Firefox crashed. This would have been around 1am-2am in the morning that Firefox first crashed and then wouldn't allow me to open it after updating. I have a DELL laptop running the Windows XP operating system but the laptop is probably at least 6 or 7 years old. The laptop will no longer charge so I always have to have it plugged into an outlet. Both my laptop hard drive and my external hard drive give me messages that I am running out of disk space on my hard drive. I bought this laptop 6 or 7 years ago second hand so it could be even older. In short it's a piece of crap and it gives me all kinds of issues but I currently can't afford a new one, but I have never had any problems with Firefox and I use Firefox more than any other aspect of my laptop so it's really really bothering me. May you please help me fix it?

Unfortunately I tried that and it didn't work. Thanks for the help though. I tried to uninstall and it said I couldn't because the file is corrupt or something, but I think I finally got it uninstalled and/or deleted or whatever, but now I try to reinstall/download it again from the beginning and I can't. No matter what I do I can not get Firefox working again. No matter how many times I try to redownload it. Any other suggestions?

I have found a temporary solution, allowing the previous version of iTunes (v. 11.1.3 (x64) in my case) to be re-installed.  It will allow you to re-establish use of iTunes until the Apple software engineers fix the most recent disasterous upgrade (v. 11.1.4).  Please see and follow the procedure in the following article:http://smallbusiness.chron.com/reverting-previous-version-itunes-32590.html   The previous version works beautifully.

The iphone is designed to be synced woth your computer regularly.  Your contacts should reside on your computer.  The iphone simply allows them to be portable.
Your contacts will be in whatever program you have been syncing.
The backup is only for restoring an iphone.  Contacts are backed up to keep the recents and favorites when you restore your iphone.

    dbmcli -d sdb -u superdba,<password>
And I get a Windows dialog box that says
This application has failed to start because SapNi.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.
    Hello,
actually, the SUPERDBA user only has ONE valid password. Although he is able to perform admin tasks and to execute SQL statements, there are not two passwords for this user!
So if you are able to connect with that user with dbmcli and not with sqlcli or loadercli, there seems to be something wrong with your system/users. Maybe the user called SUPERDBA on your system is not really the SYSDBA but a 'normal' dbm user.
When you connect with that user with dbmcli, please execute the following commands:
    sql_execute select user from dual
    sql_execute select SYSDBA from dual
    sql_execute select * from users
Can you also connect with user control with dbmcli? You might want to check the default password (control).
Regarding the ni.dll problem: If I understand that correctly, you installed Database Studio locally on your PC. Did you also install any othe MaxDB software on that server? When you try to use dbmcli to connect to a remote database, you'll have to specify the -n <hostname> option. Or did you get that dll error on the database server itself?
Database Studio cannot be used to administer databases of version 7.3. You'll have to use DBMGUI or dbmcli for that.
    Best regards, Melanie
Hi Melanie, Thanks for the response.
I cannot use dbmcli at the moment. I get the Windows dialog box saying
This application has failed to start because SapNi.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.
I am using dmcli on the Windows 2003 Server with my SAP DB 7.3 installed. Here is the version of dbmcli that I'm using.
    C:\sapdb\SDB\db\bin>dbmcli -V
    OK
    version,os,dbroot,logon,code,swap
    "7.6.06","WIN32","C:\Program Files\sdb\7606",True,ASCII,2
I'm going to try to do what the error message tells me and uninstall and re-install my DB management applications.
    Thanks,
    Rich

The installation is under Windows 2003 server SP2 and Oracle 920
I'm in the Database Instance Installation (non-unicode) and phase 29 (Updating database statistics)
    The following error is:

) in execution of a 'CreateProcess' function, line (284), with parameter (E:\usr\sap\MAU\SYS\exe\run/brconnect ...).
When i ran the brconnect manually i received the same error  (This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem)
When i ran brconnect using cmd.exe i received the following error
    E:\usr\sap\MAU\SYS\exe\run>brconnect.exe
The system cannot execute the specified program.
I think is important mention this, i had problem 1 setp before about the brtools 7.00
Execution of the command "E:\usr\sap\MAU\SYS\exe\run/brconnect -u / -c -f crsyn -o SAPMAU" finished with return code 3. Output:
