MSI MS-8900 (Ti4600-VT2D8X) Problems

Two major problems, and one lesser problem:
1.  The fan on this thing is absolutely deafening,  I figure it must be a malfunction.  Anyone else feel this to be extremely noticable?
2.  Packaging says 128MB memory, but all utilities (nVidia / MSI / Windows) show it as 64MB.  Anyone else have a similar problem?
3.  Lesser problem -- I replaced an ATI Radeon 9700 Pro because I was receiving huge numbers of graphics device failures (they kinda came in spurts, when I would do something - like download / install Windows updates).  Before I went out to the nVidia site and installed the most current version of the drivers (43.45) I would experience the same thing.  Haven't had a graphics device failure since the driver updates, but get weird jittery screen every once in a while.
I'm returning to the ATI card until I get some answers.

Serin,
I agree send the card back. I have had that version of MSI card and did not have any noise from the fan.
Sorry,
Richard

  • MSI GeForce4 Ti 4600-VT2D8X problems

Hello all,  I have tried installing this with the drivers from the cd, Windows detection & let it search for the drivers, changed the BIOS to 1x AGP etc.  Have read through the forums & no luck on anyone else having this problem.  I have even reformatted a HD & tried it with a fresh install of XP with no luck.
?(  PROBLEM: The vid shows up all pixelated & blocks (like ascii code) also flickering some.  I haven't updated BIOS due to where I have read in the forums of some people having problems after flashing.  Been holding out for the new LiveUpdate.  Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated.
    TIA !   :P

Thanx for the reply Richard.  Guess I wasn't clear on that part.  I changed it to 1x because I tried everything else & nothing worked.  The vid shares IRQ 16 with the onboard sound.
    Thanx !

    What's really the difference?
I'm trying to figure out which of these cards to get.
I'll be using it with 3DSMAX for open gl.
and video input /output for various projects.. I'll need  at least 704x 480 resolution at real time playback/capture.
Has anyone tried using this card with these?

When I just touch the video card a little with the power off (without removing at all), it gets back normal when I restart...
The pins on the monitor cable maybe bent.  Can you try another monitor.
Could be something loose somewhere on card maybe?  Bad solder somewhere etc.  When card warms up it can lose connection.
What are the Power Supplies.  Can be the root of alot of problems exp with Gf4 (make and wattage of PSU can be the difference of it working or not)
Bluesky.  I'm not familier with grounded AC plug.  Does this have three wires, or is it a separate wire???

  • GeForce 4 Ti4600 unknown problem

Just over a year ago I purchased an MSI GeForce 4 Ti4600 and I have to say it has been the best graphics card I have ever had
About a week ago, for some unknown reason my PC started freezing and the picture would disappear off the monitor.  On rebooting, the text on the POST screen is corrupted and unreadable and the the PC will either get into windows and then the picture will disappear after about 2mins or it won't even get into windows.  ?(
I have come to the conclusion that the problem is the GF4 because I have tested the PC with different graphics cards and different memory etc.  The GF4 has never been overclocked and I have no idea why it is not working properly anymore.  The system is currently running fine with a Voodoo 3 3000 in (except I can't play any of my games :( )
Any ideas / solutions would be much appreciated.

Andy unfortunately it works just like with your CPU, it damages it permanently...Heat is your worst enemy...you might try this next time you buy a new card, remove that fan assembly and use a reputable thermal paste as most of the companies buy and use the cheapest they can get...this is common and is what I do with my graphic cards...I usually use Arctic Silver 3 but if you don't know what you're doing with it and it hits and shorts any of the pins on your GPU you're going to fry it right off the bat...
White paste is fine in most cases but some do get chalky and dry out over time because of a chemical reaction called outgassing so keeping an eye on these things a couple of times a year isn't a bad idea anymore as we delve into faster and hotter running parts...just a recommendation on my part heheheh
Sorry to hear of the loss but the newer cards out there now are real screamers and 8X expecially is nice if your rig supports it...
    Cheers!! 8)

  • MSI 870a-G54 Hard drive problem.

About a week ago i reinstalled Windows because it started to slow down (virusses and what not) And as soon as i reinstalled everything (programs games etc etc) One of my harddrives used for games did not show up at the bios and at My computer.
So this entire week i've been trying to get it to work again and i've narrowed down the problem today to the BIOS and/or motherboard not giving the power to the HDD in order for it to start and be recognized in BIOS and Windows.
What ive done to come to this conclusion:
    - Reinstalled Windows twice,
    - Replaced CMOS Battery,
    - Flashed the BIOS to every BIOS setting the MSI website had to offer. None worked for the HDD to get powered up again.
    - Moved CMOS jumper,
    - Changed SATA and powercables on harddrive,
    - Tried the HDD on another test PC i had and reformatted it there as well,
    - Only hooked up the not working HDD to the PC, (HDD did not spin up, and came to the conclusion at this point that motherboard or BIOS is the culprit)
    - Unplugged the powercable to the not working HDD and plugged it back in when the PC was running and i could feel it spinning up, after this i restarted the PC so that the HDD would still get power and it was recognized by the BIOS and Windows and i could use it. As soon as i shut down the PC entirely and restarted it the HDD would not spin up. And i had to unplug power to the HDD and plug it in again and restart PC for it to work properly.
    - Checked for bad sectors nothing found,
Everything else is working perfectly. Except that one HDD not getting the power when booting up the PC.
The HDD in question is the "Samsung HD502HJ 500gig" used for Steam games.
    PC Specs:
CPU: AMD Phenom II x4 955 Black edition. Put on a new CPU cooler last summer (Cooler master Hyper 212 Plus)
    Mobo: MSI 870a-G54
PSU: Antec EarthWatts EA650 (650 Watts)
Graphics card: Powercolor PCS+ HD5870 Put on a custom cooler last summer (Arctic Cooling Accelero Xtreme 5870)
    RAM: Kingston ValueRam 1333Mhz DDR3 (8gigs 4x 2gig) Bought 4 gigs extra last summer
HDD1: Seagate ST3160812 AS 160gig used for Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit (Works perfectly)
HDD2: Samsung HD204UI 2TB used for Storage / Other games than i have on Steam. (works perfectly) Bought last summer with the cooling/system upgrade
HDD3: Samsung HD502HJ 500gig used for Steam games. (Does not work anymore after reinstal) Bought 2 years ago along with the rest of the PC
I am completely at a loss here as to what the problem is. I do not have the funds to buy a new piece of hardware at this time (i think the entire week of struggle would back that up for me lol...). And ive basically tried everything what i know and what i've found through Google and friends. Might have been better going straight to MSI forum and post my problem here but narrowing it down to this not only helps me but the person that is going to post below in this thread as well lol.
Thanks in advance and i hope to hear from anyone soon.

Try drive in different PC, as it looks like it died.
HDD's always spinup as soon as power is applied, ergo I think the drive died.
Ive tried it already in 2 different PC's and i have to apologize here for not mentioning that earlier in the topic.
The drive spins up perfectly in both of those PC's and ive checked for bad sectors on both of those PC's as well and it showed that the drive was 100% healthy on both PC's
The drive was working perfectly fine before the reinstallation of windows. Thats why i dont think the drive has died. Because it would be weird that the drive just suddenly gave up right when im reinstalling windows..
It also doesnt add up when i plug the powercable back into the drive while the PC is running and it spins up then and works perfectly until PC is shut down. Thats why i had it narrowed down to the BIOS and/or Motherboard being the culprit.
My best guess is that its software related because the PC does boot up so its not a hardware problem.
    P.S.
A friend of mine said that it could be a powersaving issue. But ive looked into the BIOS and i could not find anything about it.

Add this to your modprobe.conf :
    options snd-hda-intel model=3stack-6ch
It will add a headphones switch to your alsa control which if you disable will mute the onboard speakers.

  • MSI 6967 or PC2PC license problems!!

I have 2 MSI 6967, also known as PC2PC.  The drivers on CD are erratic, but I previously managed to get it to work fine with a upgrade to a newer 1.3.x driver.  Now with 1.4.x the damn thing is asking for a license key on install (I was unable to retain the compressed driver file that worked, regrettably).
So I went to the slightly rubbish web form to get these, and I entered the correct BD address for each of my devices (I know this to be true, as I when I try to re-register these the web service gives a 'rogue registration' response, so it must store the registered BD's), and obtained a 32-digit key for each.
When it asks for one of these keys on install, I give it, and it seems ok.  That is, until it has finished, whereupon the bluetooth system tray icon remains red (inactive, or problem), and only the option to 'Start using Bluetooth' is given on right-click.  Naturally I tried this, but it says:
"Your bluetooth software license does not include use with this Bluetooth device. [6]"
When I click OK, it then tries to get me to point it to a new, valid license file.  The only one I can see is in the unpacked files that came with the driver download.
I entered the BD correctly on registration, and it must have been valid as I got a 'valid' response i.e. the web form authorised it as an MSI bluetooth device with that address (presumably the whole purpose of the form, apart from spamming you to high heaven).  I can't do anything else now as it won't let me re-register these BD's anyway.  I can't find the mysterious older driver that worked now, as you can only download the latest (i.e. ) one.  I can't even verify the BD's now, as it doesn't give me the option to go to configuration of the device (although surely they are fixed identifiers anyway, like MAC addresses?).
Come on MSI, this is POOR service!!  I own these devices, I paid for them, you let me use them for a while and now you have told me to shove it...  If there is no way around this insanely crap rigmarole, please make a driver history available.
I recently ordered a new-build pc, and I specifically avoided MSI motherboards and other components because of this specific problem I am having with my 'legacy' MSI bluetooth omponents.
Can someone please let me know how I can get my stuff working again?

    hi
i bought the adapter today and it was shipped with the old 1.3.1 drivers that didnt work on my w2k pc *EDIT*(bttray say no device, but w2k devicemanager say device is ok and drivers are running)*/EDIT*. so i tried to get the update and ran into the same stupid problems (wrong license file message) :(. the only positive think is that by reading in this forum i find out that:
    1. im not alone with my problems.
    2. if msi was thinking when the talk about 'link to the future', that i have to read lots of rather old postings, that only states that msi didnt care about the problems, or simply can't fix them. and the only solution ist to go to the darkest corners of the internet to get a crack for something that i already payed for.  i think its better for me to stay in the past and never again buy parts from msi, not for me nor for any of my customers (i'm nearly 15 year's in the pc/network troubleshooting bussines).
    3. tomorrow i have to go back to the schop where i bought this useless pice of hardware and give it back. then i wait that the acer adapters are available again. (i use already one on my notebook and was fully satisfied with it, and had mostly no problems at all, at least not such stupid ones).

  • MOVED: MSI K8N Neo 2 Platinum Problem

This topic has been moved to Overclockers & Modding Corner.
MSI K8N Neo 2 Platinum Problem

A lot of things could be wrong but it will be easier to figure out if we know what you did.  When you say you changed settings in Bios, do you remember your last settings and what you did?
It might be helpful if you created a sig (as described in the forum rules) to show what you have in your system like my sig below. (Hint- use profile button in sign on screen.)
Things could be broken even if there is no visible evidence (such as flames or melted component) of course.
If I had to guess and your d-bracket reading is correct, corrupted bios requiring new bios chip, but let's not guess as a lot of things could be wrong and you don't want to invest in a new bios chip if the board cannot be brought back to life.  Consider removing parts and testing them in an other machine.  Start with CPU and memory?
    Good luck.

  • MSI-Z87-G45 Killer networking problem

MSI-Z87-G45 Killer networking problem, need help please!!!
1st instahttps://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=172016.0ll-  internet works- but when I tried to do the "test" in the control panel for KillerNetwork, it failed to load, it said that I needed to install flash. I closed out that window that popped up for running the speed test and got a message that says that in order for the killer networking to work correctly I must perform the "speed test". So I went and downloaded the latest version of "flash player". tried the test again and got the same results. How the heck can I do that if it doenst see that I have "flash" installed....Grrrrr  btw-Flash has been verified and works on the web page where that "test" resides if I go directly to the site, just not via this dialog box that the control panel uses.
So I deleted the control panel and driver and reloaded them.
Went to do the "speed test" and got a repeat of the above, so I left it alone and tried to play a game...the lag was horrible, the worst I have ever experienced - unplayable, so I guess that message about the speed test is 100% a must!!
I have tried everything I can possible imagine, I even reinstalled windows and all the drivers again....still nothing works with this "speed test dialog box"....What to do??
    Thanks in advance-Rob

Thanks I will try that, if not, it seems the adapter may have an issue beause the internet is jacked up on it right now.
On that control panel program, I wonder why they wouldnt just program it to take you to the site via the browser and not try to keep it embedded inside that pop-up window<-------hey!!! that just gave me an idea- I wonder if the problem is that it is a type of "pop-up"!! Dang I will have to wait until tonight to try that - "enable pop-ups" ....never thought to try that since it wasnt inside the Chrome browser window itself...maybe its the fix!! "ummm" maybe!!! naaa it cant be that simple ...can it?? lol
I realy hope it is, well either of these...that lan adapter was the whole reason I went with this MSI board!!

  • G4 Ti4600 VT2D8X - Locked games and other Problems

    HELP!
I have been having problems with games locking up.
I looked at the MSI info in display properties and the card was checked at 4x, even though my bios setting of AGP compatability 3.0 is listed as 8X.  It wouldn't let me check the 8X box.
So I downloaded the latest generic Nvidia driver (ver 44.03), and unfortunately, this cuased more problems.
Now I can't view the MSI info or MSI clock in display properties. I keep getting an XP error that says, "Run a DLL as an App has encountered a problem and needs to close"
Now mo matter how many times I uninstall the xp drivers and put the old one back in, I keep getting this error message trying to view MSI info in display properties.
When my games lock, threre isn't any sound loops happening, but the game freezes visually. I don't think I have a sound card conflict but here are my resources for you to take a look.

    Someone please help.

    Richard and gfilitti,
Thank you very much for your continued help. This really means a lot to me.
Richard I do not use an antivirus program or a firewall program in the background for that matter.
The only other thing in my sys tray besides nview is a creative console. could that be locking things up?
    gfilitti,
I acutally dsabled that firewire right after I listed my irq's to test that out. It's still disabled and doesn't seem to help the problem.
Is it a necessity that I disable system restore before using drivercleaner?  If so I will do it, but would like to think the program would work as normal without doing that.  Also not exactly certain where to disable the system restore.
So by having 10-second lock up issues, is it safe to say that I don't have any hardware conflicts or potential ram conflicts? There are no irq's being shared and I don't want to pull memory chips if you already know that's not the problem.  I think I am getting close to ending this nightmare. Please help.
    Thank you!!!!!!!!

  • TI4600 installation problems

Anytime I do anything 3D related, the card reboots the machine, scan disk finds a few files with lost clusters, system comes up with a message about recovering from a serious problem.
One problem I've noticed is that one old 3dfx file keeps reinstalling itself (old card removed was a Voodoo 5500 AGP).  It has to be coming from Win XP and the OS installation files bundled with it, since I've removed every trace of even any download of 3dfx files and searched the harddrives to be certain.  The file is 3dfxvs.dll.  It's throughout the registry a lot, in some areas where the registry doesn't let me delete it either.   Win XP can be maddening at times.
The video card is also sharing IRQ 11 with several other devices, including the sound card and modem.  I'm told this isn't a problem in Win XP.  Let's hope it's not since Win XP won't let you assign IRQs.
I'm hoping once I get rid of the old 3dfx file, the problem goes away.  But I'm stumped now how to stop Win XP from reinstalling that file each boot up.
    Any suggestions?

    DX 9

I'm up and running!  And after all the tweaking, I think it was simply a matter of going back one more driver... what's working great is MSI's 40.74 drivers.
I did get my IRQs sorted much nicer though so that the video card is by itself on IRQ 10.  When I moved the SB Live card from PCI slot 5 down to 6, that rearranged all devices so only the NIC card and modem are on IRQ 11.   SB Live and USB controller were moved to IRQ 5, video card was moved to IRQ 10.  As happy as I was to see IRQs rearranged, unfortunately that made zero difference in getting the card running though.
At that point is when I downloaded other older drivers and was trying them all and hit on 40.74 working great.  No glitches or any problems in the DX Diagnostics or in 3D games.
/smacks self for not trying older drivers first :p... but I have been wanting to get a bigger power supply and I hated having 5 devices on IRQ 11, MB bios and drivers got updated, so some good came out all the tweaking.
Thanks much for all the help and advice.  At least I didn't go through reformatting /grin.

  • MSI K7N2 Delta-ILSR, Mouse problem & Video off problem solved!!!

I find the following information that I collected very interesting at the very least...
    Here goes...
The video off problem that I was having was directly linked to the mouse. Here, let me explain the video off problem. In the BIOS Have the Standby mode set to S3. The problem occurred when I started windows, then went into standby, then started back up, then restarted the computer, the monitor would act as if it were in sleep mode, or rather there was no signal being sent to the monitor. Well the odd way I fixed that is by plugging in a standard 2 button PS/2 mouse. Also this fixed the issue with the mouse sometimes not working in windows.
    Here is how I tested.
    Logitech MX700 Cordless Optical Mouse, PS/2 & USB= failed.
Logitech iFeel Optical Mouse, USB= failed.
Microsoft Cordless Ball Mouse, PS/2= failed.
Standard Artec (Cheapy brand) Ball Mouse (With no wheel), PS/2= All issues fixed, and passed.
When I said failed I do not mean they didn't work, I mean they sometimes didn't work and also caused the Video off problem after restarting the computer.
Obviously it isn't the ports (PS/2 or USB) that are the problem, it is more like the mouse itself, and the amount of buttons in particular. As you can see above the only mouse that works correctly is the one that only has 2 buttons, the rest has 3 or more buttons along with a Wheel. The MX700 has 8 buttons + wheel, WOW!
Anyways I figure out it was the mouse, and not the memory.
Obviously MSI needs to make a patch for this mouse problem.
I'm still having a hard time believing that the mouse caused the video not to work, but it is true! I spend well over 5 hours testing this crap. Every time with the mice with more then 3 buttons it messed up, and every time with the 2 button old fashion mouse it worked flawlessly!
MSI, get to work on a new BIOS to fix this mess!!!  :]

i was in windows surfing and the pointer just jumped all over the screen.
when i looked on the other side under a table a friends little kid played with the usn mouse.  )
    bye
LOL, that isn't what I'm talking about.
There seems to be a problem with my motherboard accepting mice with more then 2 buttons. It works the first time, but if you restart the computer, the video goes off. If you have both installed, it still messed up.

  • MSI K7N2 Delta ILSR Memory problems

I'm trying to burn in a system in a 50 deg C (122 deg F) room for a minimum of 12 hours.  The main system components are as follows:
    Motherboard:  MSI K7N2 Delta ILSR
    CPU: AMD Athlon XP 2800+
    Memory: 2x512 OCZ PC3200 EL
My problem is that the burn-in software continues to freeze up during the memory test.  I've already contacted the software manufacturers and the software is stable.  It's a problem with the way the motherboard handles the memory.  I've tried putting the memory in dual channel configuration and changing the timing settings in the BIOS.  The SPD settings are 2.5-3-3-7.  Right now I have them at 3-4-3-8.  It's a lot more stable than it was under the default settings but it still freezes up sometime after 7 hours.  Unfortunately, I wasn't around when it froze so I don't know exactly how long it lasted.  I can say that after 7 hours, it wasn't showing any slowdown in performance.  If anyone could think of anything else I might be able to do to get the system stable, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks for the suggestions.  The CPU FSB is 200, so it's already matched up there.  And we have a ton of fans already.  There are two in the front, 4 inside and 1 on the back.  It's a custom case, 2u high.  The power supply is oversized and more than adequate to provide the required power.  I have four of these units running right now.  Two with 2x512 sticks and two with 1x1024 sticks.  For each combination, the memory clock speed for one is 166 and 200 for the other.  I have been loosening up the memory timings trying to get the system stable, but it still isn't.  If the power supply is good, and I'm unable to cool the system anymore due to limititions within the case, is there anything you can think of to stabilize the system.  Maybe other settings in the BIOS or suggestions on how to go about getting good timings for the memory.  Thanks.

  • MSI K7N2 Delta-ILSR MB Problems, Need Help ASAP!! PLEASE

Ok  I just got this motherboard (MSI K7N2 Delta) Yesterday and after getting it setup I began overclocking the Processor (an AMD Athlon XP Barton Mobile 2500+) I was at 11x 215 1.750V Perfectly. I moved to 216 it started to seem unstable so I pushed the VCORE up to 1.775 and tried 217. It couldn't boot so I dropped it back down and decided ok 208 and a 11.5 multi might get me past the 2.4 mark which I was looking for. Well when I changed the Multi. to 11.5 and said save the system just sate as the flashing y for save. I could not change it to n I had already pushed enter So i firgured great and left it alone for a few minutes, nothing so I reset it. Now it refuses to boot/post. It spinds the fans the HD's the Network port is going but I get no picture. I have cleared the CMOS using the jumper I have removed the battery and power for over an hour and I still get nothing. I am assuming this is a BIOS error but I am not sure what to do to fix it. Does anyone here kno maybe, something I have yet to try something I can do? I would hate to RMA it and have to wait on newegg. Hell the thing is a day old. So please any idea's are welcome I have this posted on the Hard Forums as well but I am hopinh this forum may be more popular with getting help as no one is helping over there. Thanks!

    Hi,
Cross: Just in case you are doing something wrong there's a clear CMOS guide here, follow it to the letter (and don't forget to put the FSB jumper to SAFE beforehand - there's a note about it in the guide).
    How To Clear the CMOS
Your system board or CPU maybe not be dead yet - I had a similar problem with one of my boards and I tried everything - to cut a long story short I eventually got it working!!!
Btw, If you can't boot or get into the BIOS put your other CPU in (clear BIOS again after fitting!), so that you can prove whether your motherboard is working correctly!
Good luck!   I'm off ta bed!
