MSI N460GTX Cyclone 1GD5 not being recognised

I am upgrading an older HP Pavilion pc that has onboard graphics, full list in the signature file.  Installed new power supply & moved 2 PCI cards down 1 slot @ to make room around the PCI-e slot and confirmed all was responding fine before installing the new MSI N460GTX Cyclone 1GD5 graphics card.  I am (attempting) using this as a single card only.
After initially getting nothing on first start-up I realized after searching here that both PCI express power inputs needed to be connected.  Simple change with modular cables included with new 600W power supply, although it would have been nice to have been able to find this info included with the documentation.
this time it came up in a 640x480 mode but the card is not showing up in device manager and when attempting to install drivers from the included disc it did not even show driver options link available and basically acted like the card did not exist even though my monitor was connected to it and functioning in a low resolution mode. On a reboot my system then would not progress past bios menu.  I could enter bios setup & confirm settings, save & exit ok but then it would hang up, locking up keyboard & all at same point (NVload ok!) on every reboot.
I reconnected to onboard graphics with the Cyclone card powered off & all comes up normally.  i am not seeing any indication within device manager of its existence other than "unknown device".
there has only been one bios update for my pc since the one i am currently using and it was only intended to address an issue with "hibernate" mode.
any ideas?

Ok, I finally got another chance to tackle this one. I first tried disabling the onboard ATI Radeon graphics processor from device manager in "safe mode".  when i got the same results I then used Driver Sweeper to clean all ATI drivers and yet STILL had same results on reboot.
*I can boot up in a "normal" 800x600 mode connected to onboard monitor port with PCI-x 460GTX powered off but I can't go ahead and install NVidia drivers because the system can't see the device.
*When I reboot with the PCI-x 460GTX powered up, the onboard port is disabled.  The monitor connected to the PCI-x 460GTX port displays normal boot up info all the way until "CHECKING NVRAM..Update OK!" at which point nothing more happens and keyboard appears to lock up.
Am I not waiting long enough (5 minutes) before giving up ?
The only connectors i see are the 2  6-pin power inputs and the onboard fan connection which runs fine.  am i missing something ?
please help.  i really want this to work!
Try with better PSU... not Ultra ...

Right can someone please care to explain to me, why this card requires not one but TWO 6 pin PCI-Ex connectors... which both have not one but TWO 4 pin Molex connectors.
Giving a grand total of 4 Molex connectors..
My PSU has 4x Molex and 1X SATA, I'm running 3 SATA drives and 1 DVD-Rom drive.
So I've had to ditch the extra drives so I could use the card.
Why can't the 4 pin Molex - 6 Pin PCI-Ex cables run off one single Molex plug instead of two?
I have two 12V rails from my PSU and both come from the PSU with their own single cable, which is spliced at the end... what's the point in using two plugs, both on that same splice when they both come from the same source?!
That's not the only thing, I have a lovely 4 pin Molex header on my main board next to the Primary PCI-Ex 16X slot, but it has pins... and guess what, so do the 4 pin Molex to 6 pin PCIEx connectors, so it renders it useless!
    So a summation of questions.
Why two 6pin PCI-Ex headers on the card.
Why two 4 pin Molex plugs on the 6 pin PCI-Ex to 4 pin Molex converter?
Why have a Dedicated Molex header on the Main board which you can't physically connect to?
Me thinks the producers of this product need to scratch their head and re-think future products as it strikes me as idiotic.
P.s. Not once did I see ANY reference ANYWHERE to requiring four 4 pin Molex plugs to run the card.
    Rant over
I'd love to see the reasoning behind it.

    Thanks for your replies guys.
Yes I can see that spreading current across two connectors will increase the capacity, but to spread it again over another two 4 pin Molex's seems a bit strange, considering the end it connects to is just piggied off the first plug, leading to one rail on the PSU. (4 wires, not 8!)
The power supply is only about a year old, but indeed is a cheap Bay of E Jobby.
So your saying the Molex header on the mainboard itself is to stick a 12V from the PSU into?
I thought it was there to power a PCI-Ex card using the adaptor cable, the manual refers to it as "JPWR"
    Quote
"ATX 12V Power Connector: JPW/ JPWR
And the JPWR 12V power connector is used to provide power to the PCIEX16 graphics card"
With the cables provided with the new card, they have a total of 4 plugs, but all pins, so unable to connect to "JPWR"

I did a fair bit of research before buying this card, I settled on it because of my experiences with MSI as my Mainboard.
The Gigabyte one was 3 euro's cheaper and offered more or less the same bang for buck, and I was looking to keep this card for a number of years (I'm a student with a negative cash flow!) and hopefully make it last my next mainboard/cpu/ram upgrade (When I will actually get PCI-Ex 2.0!)
It just strikes me as odd when you look at a card and go "Oh, I'll need 1 6-pin Pci-ex connector, I can connect it to the mainboard with the provided header." Then discover you can't actually connect to the main board's provided header... Then discover there's actually TWO connectors... and both of hem require TWO Molex's to function... Grand total 4.  And none of this was in any literature or specifications provided at all anywhere.
I don't know but maybe the Gigabyte one only uses one 6pin pci-ex power plug.. Maybe it only uses one molex to convert to it. I have no clue, I haven't researched that particular product.

  • MSI N460GTX Cyclone 768D5 - NVIDIA updates to driver not working

    Hi!
I own a MSI N460GTX Cyclone 768D5 card and using the driver provided in MSI website (Driver Version:259.22). Recently I tried some new games but some were giving graphic problems with it. Temperature wasnt a problem, and when I checked many NVIDIA users needed only to update their drivers to solve similar issues that I have encountered.
I tried going to to NVIDIA and used the auto-scan and downloaded the drivers 260.99, however on install, all gaming applications cease to function and even NVIDIA control panel malfunctions due to a "incorrect version" error.
Could you advise on how to proceed in getting an update for this particular card, thank you!

Use Driver Sweeper in Safe Mode to remove current drivers,
then reboot and boot to normal mode and install vga driver again

  • IPod not being recognised in iTunes

    Hi all
I sold my iPod on eBay and, as far as I could tell, it was working perfectly when it was sent off. The buyer has sent it back to me claiming it wasn't being recognised in her iTunes and to my surprise it's now not being recognised in mine. I plug in the iPod and it charges through my Mac but does not become recognised in iTunes at all. Does anyone have any ideas as I am going to have to refund the buyer AND the iPod seems caput so it would be great if I could get it working one way or the other. Thanks so much in advance.

I tried what you suggested but it didn't seem to work for me. When i started the error check nothing happened, the bow for checking errors closed immideiatly after i clicked start. Did you do anythig else before checking the drive for errors, like put it in disk mode?

  • Iphone 3gs not being recognised by Itunes 10.1.2 on my Imac

    Hi all,
This seems to be a common problem but all the posts that say they have succeeded don't work on mine. My problem started when my iphone was not being recognised. I did everything re-installed itunes, restarted computer etc and I finally went into DFU mode. Itunes recognised then but said it needed to be restored. At wits end i did this, now i have no phone as itunes wiped everything but since it wont recognise it again i cant get the phone past the connect to itunes/emergency call screen. I also tried deleting the file "com.apple.usbmuxd.plist~orig" but i cant seem to find it where they said it would be. If i can find this file apparently this will help me but it simply not there.
Really hope that someone might have an answer that will work for me because i really need my cell phone back
P.S I have the latest itunes and Mac OS X 10.6.6

In this article about your device not being recognized in OSX, http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1591 ,it is mentioned, that

My iphone 3GS is not being recognised by my PC, either in itunes or My Computer as a drive. iPad and iPod work fine.
Phone also not found on other computers I have tried.
Tried resetting the phone. Reloaded iTunes. Stumped now.

Now sorted thanks. It was the cable, seemed identical, would charge the phone through the USB port but did not show up as a drive.

  • Iphone is not being recognised on itunes to sync?

Hi, I have connected my iphone to my computer but it is not being recognised on itunes?can u help?

I just replaced my 3GS with an iPhone 4 yesterday, and the new phone will not sync with iTunes. It pops up with the following error message whenever I hook it up:
"The iPhone "iPhone" cannot be used because it requires iTunes version 10.1 or later. Go to www.itunes.com to download the latest version of iTunes."
I just got this phone from AT&T, and there are no updates available for either my computer or my phone, so they have to have the newest iTunes.
Also, whenever I plug it in, the new phone does not appear under the "devices" tab on the left like my old one does.
Thanks in advance for whatever advice you can give me.

  • Since upgrading to Firefox 4.0 Norton IS site logins no longer work, even though they are running, they do not auto load. Is FF not being recognised after the update ?? ??

Normally when i open FF the Norton IS login manager kicks in automatically and completes all the various site logins.
'''However '''since the update to FF4, even though Norton IS 2011 is running the login manager is not working, it's as if FF4 is not being recognised as my browser any longer.
There must be a fix for this; if not i'll be forced to revert to the previous version of FF
    New'ish system i3, Win 7, MS Office, Norton IS 2011, Firefox 4.0

You are almost correct in your assumption Norton needs updating to FF4

  • Ipod touch 6.1.3 not being recognised by iTunes 10.7

Just got a secondhand iPod Touch. It is on 6.1.3 and I have iTunes 10.7 running on my iMac 10.6.8.  As far as I can see 6.1.3 is supported on iTunes 10.7.  I tried the Apple trouble-shooting page but to be honest it wasn't that helpful.
If I set up Home Sharing then I can Home Share using the iPod Touch...which says that I do have connectivity at some level.  Just that it is not being recognised by iTunes and so I am unable to load my apps or transfer any music over.

    Many thanks lllaass
I had gone through the first part without success but had decided not to go through the second stage. But following your recommendation I did just that and it works!

  • My iPad2 is not being recognised as a device by my mac or my PC?

All programmes are up to date. The iPad pops up in itunes but nothing else. It's not recognised as a device in image capture either. Any ideas why?
The problem is I have a whole pile of photos that I want to get off the ipad that I can't access because it's not being recognised.
I could email them all to myself but this would take forever. Entirely the opposite of convenient, which I thought the iPad was supposed to be.
Photo stream only works so so, it's not sending all of my photos across, just ones it randomly selects. I really don't understand what that's about.
If anyone has any tips they would be greatly appreciated.
    So far I have:
    -updated iPhoto software
    -updated iPad software
    -reset iPad
-turned everything off and on again.
    Nothing seems to work.
Looking forward to hearing a solution,
    Aoife

How did the photos get onto the iPad ? If they were synced from a computer then they won't appear in Image Capture (or iPhoto or Aperture, and on a PC windows camera wizard and windows explorer) - there are third-party apps such as Simple Transfer which you can use to copy those back via your wifi network (but photos are 'optimised' when synced to the iPad, so if you do copy them back they may not be exactly the same as they originally were on your computer).
If you have photos taken with the iPad, copied to it via the camera connection kit or saved from emails/website then the iPad should appear in those applications so that you can then copy those photos off the iPad.

  • IPod Touch not being recognised on newly-installed OSX Leopard (10.5.4)

I have an iPod Touch (software version 2.0.2) which is not being recognised in OSX Leopard (version 10.5.4) which I just loaded onto the Powerbook G4. It was recognised under OSX 10.4, although the iPod Touch didn't launch iTunes when it was connected. It was only recognised after iTunes was launched.
I have read some previous posts about iPod Touch not being recognised. One of the recommendations is to reinstall the entire iTunes package. It this must be done to sort the problem, will all of the music in iTunes be lost?
Note my daughter's iPod, when connected, launches iTunes and is recognised.
    Help, please.

    Hi,
Reinstalling iTunes *will not* erase your music library.
As a matter of course I do, and in fact Apple recommend that you back up your music library, there is an option to do this under "File" in iTunes. It is really quite sensible to have your purchased and other music files saved elsewhere as well as on your main hard drive, it can save a lot of time and hassle.
    Good luck,
    Dud.
