MSI Neo k8n Platinum firewall

1: I can't access it.
Thats how simple it is, I click the "NVIDIA Web-based Interface" shortcut and nothing happens. NOTHING, It's so great that MSI checks so that everything works before they release a MB, go go MSI.
I'll never buy anything from them again.

I've had limited issues with it until however I used live update to update my drivers from the ones provided on the instalation cd to the latest stored on MSI's site, now it's selective to what it allows through. So far I've had most trouble with banking websites that use certain popup windows.
If you want to check if you are being blocked try the below link, I was applying for a credit card and got to a point when the site  wants to open a form. If you are having the same issue the form won't open and an error will appear instead.
If i shutdown the firewall however the form will open
From what i can gather after googling we are not alone, the only solution so far is to disable it as even on low settings it still blocks these pages.
http://www.abbey.com/cash/credit_cards/credit_cards_balance_transfer_card_apply.html
click that link and press the orange CONTINUE button, it will try and open the form
If someone is going to try and fix it then this page is one example of what's being blocked.

  • MSI Neo2 K8N Platinum - Freezing Issue during games

First off greetings to everyone on these forums...
I purchased the MSI Neo2 K8N Platinum motherboard from NewEgg back at the end of March to compliment the AMD 64 "Winchester" processor that I also purchased at that time to replace a slightly older AMD XP "Barton" system that was using the Abit NF7-S motherboard. For the past month I have been fighting an unusual and highly irritating issue that I have noticed during game play and have tried everything that I know of and more in an attempt to remedy this issue, but to no avail. This is the general background of the situation and now I will descibe in greater detail as to what this issue I am referring to is and the symptoms of this issue and some of the various methods used to remedy this issue.
The issue is that while play a game the system experiences a short 5-10 second freeze during the game randomly, but usually several times an hour. During this freezing the sound would loop and as suddenly as the freeze occurs it would cease and the game would continue on as if nothing happened. However, sometimes this would result in the system freezing outright after this short 5-10 second freeze... but it does not feel like a total system freeze, but rather a video freeze as the sound continues and I still have keyboard control... but this does require me to force a manual reboot of the machine itself. I have scowered the internet and various forums in an attempt to find what the issue was and use various methods to remedy this issue, but so far nothing has worked in my favor... but it does seem like this issue has been plaguing other users with the MSI Neo2 Platinum motherboard. Below are some of the methods that I have used in an attempt to solve this issue:
*Default Clock for CPU/Memory/GPU; Over/Under Clock for CPU/Memory/GPU
*Increased voltages to CPU VID, AGP, and Memory
    *Disabled/Enabled AGP Fast Writes
*Increased AGP Aperture from 64MB to 512MB
*Enabled/Disabled ATI/nVidia Speedup option in BIOS
*Forced AGP clock lock to 66-67mhz
    *Relaxed/Aggressive memory timings
    *APIC enabled/disabled
    *Gate A20 turbo/normal
*Disabled all unneeded onboard components (Realtek NIC, Sound, SATA)
*Disabled nVidia MAC and attempted to use 3Com Gigabit PCI card instead
    *Swapped HDD Cables
*Tried PCI Sound Card (SB Audigy2 ZS Gamer) in PCI Slots 3/4
*Tried video drivers from 71.89 Official to 76.45 beta modified drivers
*Tried 5.10 official nForce drivers to remixed 7.02 nForce drivers (5.10 drivers uses 4.36 GART, higher drivers uses the 4.40 GART)
*Applied all the latest updates from Windows Update Website
*Reinstalled Operating System (Windows XP SP2) 5 different times clean with various settings (APIC on/off, etc...) and different drivers.
*Installed Audio Card (SB Audigy2 ZS Gamer) with older and the latest drivers available from Creative's website
    *Replaced PSU (Previously was a Thermaltake 420watt PSU, 18A +12v) with a OCZ Modstream 520watt PSU (28A +12v)
*Video card is KNOWN working from previous build (AMD XP 3000, Abit NF7-S)
*Hard Drive is KNOWN working from previous build
*CD/DVD-ROM drive is kNOWN working from previous build
*Heat is not an issue... all components temperature is well below rated level, the only unknown is the chipset temperature (it has a active heatsink and seems to not be hot to the touch, applied AS5 to it anyway)
*Used latency tweak to the video card
*Used Rivatuner to force constant performance level
*Tweaked BIOS to force even clock rates and forced 1.4v to the GPU Core
    *Used original GPU BIOS
    *Used MSI Neo2 K8N Bios 1.4 - 1.8 and modified BIOS 1.8
*No background applications are running (not even antivirus)
*Used application to force maximum refresh rates for my monitor
*Memory passed MemTest86+ for over 24 hours
*System passed Prime95 and SuperPi for over 24 hours
*System seems stable in all non gaming related applications
    *Checked through various troubleshooting procedures
    *Disabled SBDRVDET.EXE using MSCONFIG
*There are no IRQ conflicts outside of PCI system management sharing IRQ11 with the NIC and USB... in APIC there are no IRQ conflicts what so ever. Regardless neither method worked
*Installed AMD 64 drivers from AMD
    *Disabled DEP in boot.ini
*...and many other various tweaks and modifications.

I have been fighting this issue for well over a month now and I am frankly nearly out of ideas, this does not necessarly prevent me from playing games, but this does interfere with the games I do play (especially online games). I do demand absolute stability from the games that I play and this issue only began AFTER I upgraded to the new motherboard, processor, and memory. The only thing I have not tried is something that I do not have access in attempting on this motherboard, and that is increasing the voltage to the chipset.
Here is my theory on what is going on is that I believe is there is a fault with the chipset on this motherboard and this is manifesting itself while I am playing various games on this system. Of course I would like to try increasing the voltage to the chipset as that would increase stability, but there is no option in BIOS to increase the chipset voltage like the previous motherboard I had (Abit NF7-S). It is possible that either a) the chipset is at fault and is causing me this issue or b) the chipset is not recieving enough voltage.
My question to the rest of you is this, what do you think the problem is and what ideas do you have that I may try that I have not tried yet. Additionally if there is nothing else that I may try should I attempt to RMA this motherboard and will that help, and is there any other versions of this motherboard that I should be aware of. I would appreciate any response from a MSI representative and any comments from those that may have positive suggestions for my issue. Thank you in advance for your time and any help that you may be able to render.

*EDIT* Added additional methods attempted... (there was a lot... so I did not remember everything that I have tried)

Does it only happen in online games, or can it happen in all games? One thing to make sure of is to turn off CRC checksum offload in your NVidia MAC properties (everyone do this, it is incorrectly calculating checksums which leads to servers ignoring your packets). However as you have tried a different network card you can discount this theory.
For me it looks like the biggest culrpit is your 6800NU, i have read alot of bad things about the NU and you have a low bios revision there, just because it worked well against your old chipset doesnt mean it will work well against your current chipset. Sounds like a BIOS fix is needed as some timing is out somewhere.
Ensure Spread Spectrum is off (and as you have already pointed out Fast writes, ATI NV Speedup) and your card is running at default clock.
As a test beg/borrow/steal another graphics card (preferably nvidia) and see how it goes so you can narrow in on your video card.
It is not just one game, but it is more prodominate in certain games than others... the game in question here is Planetside... though I stuck a demo of Unreal Tournament 2004 on a loop bot match and it seemed to have locked up after 4 hours (not sure how many times it experienced that 5-10 freeze as I went to bed). As for the video card it was KNOWN working from a previous build in those same games (Previous build was a AMDXP3000 and a Abit NF7-S nForce2 motherboard). The only components different in this build is the AMD64, the MSI Neo2 K8N, 2 new sticks of Corsair XMS to replace the Corsair ValueSelects, and the SB Audigy2 as I would never use a software codec audio solution. Spread Spectrum is LOCKED in BIOS and disabled... ATI/nVidia speed up was disabled from the start... and I tried the Video Card at default clock, over clocked, as well as under clocked and the same issue resulted... as I said before it is NOT the video card.
There are two other things I could try is use my old Geforce4ti 4200 and see what happens... or even try out WindowsXP 64-bit edition as someone earlier suggested. I wish I could find a new BIOS for my XFX 6800NU, but there there is only the revision 1 BIOS that I was able to find. The mystery continues...

MSI Neo 2 platinum with San Diego or Venice

Here are my results with my Neo2/3000+ Venice:
I use different apps to OC in Windows after booting with safe settings that I know work. That way if I use an app and push to far, the PC will reset with safe BIOS settings. The key for getting more vcore is to not set the first setting at anything higher than 1.45v. Setting anything after that will only result in it reading as 1.45v - as in your example, where you are setting 1.55v+10% and it only reads 1.59v...That is the same as 1.45v+10%.
What you'll need to do is install Core Center. Once installed go to Start/All Programs/Start Up, and delete it from there. That will keep it from starting everytime you restart the PC, and only run when you click on the icon. Next, boot at the highest vcore you need to, or 1.45v+10% if you need all 1.59v. Once Windows has loaded open Core Center and use the voltage options there to bump it up slowly. Both my brother and I have Neo2's and I can get 1.725v, while he can get 1.78v to work, all on BIOS v1.A...Hope this helps, good luck.
Also, if you don't have them, programs like Core Center, the A64 Tweaker, and Clock Gen are very handy and work really well when OCing. Be careful and have fun!

  • MSI Neo 2 platinum with San Diego or Venice

    Hey guys,
How do you guys get high clocks (2.8ghz +) using any of the bioses for MSI neo 2 platinum EXCEPT for 1.36b for Venice or san diego?.. For all the other bioses, the max vcore is 1.55V + 10%. But even at this limit, the vcore for me is only ~1.59V as detected by the bios, MBM, CPUZ and core center. So i dont know how to give my CPU more juice without using 1.36.. I dont want to use 1.36 because it doesnt support my memory controller and my computer is unstable. I want to use a newer bios that supports san diego's, but i also want high vcore to keep my computer stable at 2.9Ghz. I have used 2.9Ghz before using 1.36 bios but i need 1.4 + 15% vcore (CPUZ and MBM report 1.62V). This was stable using prime 95 for 24hours.... ne suggestions? thanks

  • MSI NEO 4 Platinum with SATA Drive

I have recently built a new machine with the following specs but I am having problems with system stability in windows and was wondering whether it's because of the way I set up the hard drive.
    Specs:
    MSI K8N Neo 4 Platinum
    AMD Athlon 64 3500 Winchester
    Zalman CNPS7000B-Cu
    1GB Corsair XMS PC3200 RAM
    Sapphire X800 XT
    Sound Blaster Audigy Player
Maxtor 80GB Serial ATA Hard Drive
    Maxtor 40GB IDE Hard Drive
    550W PSU
I plugged my SATA drive into slot 1 and booted from the maxblast 3 CD to partition and set up the hard drive. I then installed windows 98 and upgraded to windows 2000. My system seems to be slow and laggy, though it seems mostly fine in games. When I listen to music and browse a CD at the same time the sound stutters and lags. I am getting lots of slow down when doing lots of things on the computer but it shouldn't slow down as much as it is. I am also getting windows error messages.
Is there a different way I should have installed the hard drive. I can't boot from my windows 2000 disk in dos because it's only upgrade version. I read on the forum about adding the SATA drive to a raid array before installing windows but I don't understand what this means. Can you help?
The floppy drive also doesn't seem to work so I couldn't install SATA drivers at windows setup. How can I get it working because the lead seems to be connected correctly as it gives an error message on boot up with the purple stripe the other side of the floppy drive.

If you have an XP upgrade CD follow the following steps.
    1) Decide which HD you wish to install XP on.
If the Sata - Then turn of PC & unplug IDE Drive, this is a windows thing, as XP will see the Ide drive b4 the Sata & try to create the 1st drive as system drive. You can plug the ide back in when the install is complete.
    2) Insert XP Cd. Enter Bios - Advanced bios change boot order so that CD is 1st device. or press f11 as pc posts, & select CD.
    3) The PC should now boot from the XP CD.
You don't need to load any floppy drivers.
But XP will ask to see a qualifying product, put in your 2000 or 98 CD.
You should see a Hard drive Partition Setup screen - you can use this to delete any existing partition & format the drive (Don't use the quick format it's only quick cos it dont check for errors so slow & safe is best.  See section How to partition and format your hard disk by using the Windows XP Setup program

It's still a Neo 4 board, notice the diamond version doesn't say Neo 4 either.
Thats incorrect, the "K8N Platinum SLI" and the "K8N Neo4 Platinum/SLI" are different by the missing silicone image SATA controller and single vs duel gigabit nic's...
K8N Platinum SLI = 4 SATA ports and single Gb Nic  (this is the low cost SLI option)
K8N Neo4 Platinum/SLI is sold in America and is identical to the Diamond (has the silicone image SATA controller) for 6 SATA ports and Dual Gb Nic's but don't expect the Duel Net Card with bluetooth and wireless.
K8N Neo4 Platinum is the plain old nforce4 ultra offering.
Check the differences on msicomputer.com vs msi.com.tw and it will become clearer, its taken me 2 months to get my head around it all.

My whole system is running damned stable, except for not POSTing on a cold boot sometimes - I haven't worked out why this is just yet but I'm guessing it's something to do with MSI's badly engineered BIOSes. It seemed to have a lot of trouble cold POSTing on 300HTT so hence it being at 302 (I just put it up from 301 as it didn't POST properly this morn).
Anyway, feel free to ask any questions - I've bookmarked this thread and will definately check back.
Software you might want to download (google is your friend):

Clockgen (get the one for NF3 boards)

  • Msi Neo 2 Platinum broken ?

I've started to experience problems with my Neo2 Platinum mobo, ( 7months old) .
The problem(s) started yesterday when i got home from school, when I put on the computer it didnt want to boot normally, instead it just died after a few seconds. So i thought maybe its my memory, so i took them both out ( 2x512mb sticks), and put one of them in:
    1.dimm1, didnt work,
    2.dimm2, didnt work
    3.dimm3, worked
    4.dimm4, didnt work
(tried this with both of the sticks), I usually have them in dimm3 and dimm4. But then later on i tried the 'slots' again, and then dimm3 started to whine, took the stick out, put it back in (pressed it in a little harder), put the other one in dimm4, and it worked too, So now i had both of them in the computer , working. So I was happy. But today when I started my comp, it died again in the beginning, and after that it froze at the beginning ( where you see ur memory, bios version etc etc) , the third time it worked... what could it be, the cause.
p.s this have never happend to me before (in the whole 7months,)

1.5 cents now...and this is knda a question for syar too. wouldn't the legacy drivers provide at least some functionality of the VC through the boot process at least? I't seems like they would hve to, not everyone can find an old plain jane vid to set up their fancy new drivers for their new all the bells and whistles SLI setup so they can do some switcharoo after the drivers are in.  I'm just reasoning here.  Turok: I think the driver issue is a good place to start.  You would doo good tu uninstall the old drivers and start afresh with some new drivers... I used driver cleaner pro the other day, because I have tried multiple remedies to this black screen issue I've been getting, wiped out all but legacy drivers, reinstaled correct MSI nvidia driver, rebooted, no probs since, couldn't hurt...................much, have fun

  • Help with MSI Neo 2 Platinum 54g cannot boot from usb stick

    Hi all,
Just purchased the new motherboard with my FX55 CPU and I chose this mobo as it seemed the best option at the moment.
A problem I am having is with the USB memory sticks. I have created a memory stick that is bootable. I have tested it on other pc's and it works ok but on the MSI board, it does not work. It recognises it during POST, but it will not boot.
Is there something that I must do for this to work ?

I found it finally! It treats the USB stick as a hard disk, so you have to put it first on the Hard disk priority submenu! I wish it would say that in the manual. I found it by looking at everything in the bios... I hit the Hard disk priority and the usb stick was on 2 and my hard disk on 1. As soon as I swapped them around it worked fine..

  • Data recovery from raid_0 hard drives on Msi Neo 925Xe Platinum

Yesterday my mainboard has "passed out" without reason. My pc was in idle situation and suddenly the monitor turned off. I've checked everything and I found out that it's a mb problem.
I had 2 WD raptors on raid_0 and I would like to know if there is anyway to recover some of my data.
Some thoughts are to find another same mainboard(unlikely to find any) or another mainboard with the same raid controller.
I would like you to propose me any of your ideas for this matter and the raid controller model of the motherboard or even a list of motherboards with the same raid controller.
Thank you in advance, I am desperate.

    Hello Seed_GR,
As long as you try to revive the RAID array on a board which uses a Controller of the same Chipset family, there is a good chance that the migration will be successful.  That means, that it would be worth to try to connect your drives to a board that has a RAID-capable ICH6R, ICH7R, ICH8R or ICH9R Chipset.  Have a look at this test article to see what I am referring to:
    >>TOM'S HARDWARE GUIDE: The Raid Migration Adventure<<
I am sure that a migration from ICH6R (your board) to a board with the latest Intel ICH10R Southbridge would probably have a good chance of succeeding as well.  They just did not test it at the time that article was written.
There is, of course, a chance that such a migration will fail. It is hard to exclude that possibility beforehand.  However, it is definately worth a try.

You have to disamble the MB to install it.... it is not difficult to install otherwise.

  • Enermax Noisetaker ATX power connector and MSI Neo 2 Platinum?

A question. I haven't even setup my system yet but...
My Enermax EG425P-VE SFMA noisetaker PSU has a 24 pin power jack. 4 of the 20 pins separates from the remaining 20 and the 20 pin connector fits into the motherboard. Those 4 that were "connected" to the other 20 don't correspond with what plugs into the motherboard near the CPU. Another 4 pin lead that fits. Is this correct? Looking at the Enermax owners manual it appears to be right.
What are the other 4 connectors on the 24 pin power lead for anyways?

    Goodluck.
All the NF4 boards are using the 24-pin ATX interface.  That extra 4-pin split isn't useless--it allows you to use that psu in these boards.

  • Sapphire Theatrix 550 Pro and Neo 2 Platinum problem

Anyone manged to install and get a Sapphire Theatrix 550 (ATi Theater 550) TV Capture card to work on a MSI NEO 2 Platinum motherboard? I have two computers using the NEO 2 and the Theatrix does not work on either. The "ATI Unified AVStream" device has a conflict with the "PCI Standard PCI-to-PCI bridge". The resources section is greyed out on the "PCI Standard PCI-toPCI bridge" device. I have installed and tried both Windows Media Center and Windows XP
I have no idea how to correct this.    Anyone have any ideas or better still solutions?
    Thanks
    Dal

    Richard
I have returned the original motherboard as It would only post to the "Platinum logo"  4 time out of 10 starts! I have now installed the Theatrix card into my other machine which also supports a MSI Neo2 Platinum MB.
Unfortunately I can not try all the PCI slots on this machine as it is water cooled and the GFX and chipset waterblocks prevent access to slots 1 and 2
I did try slot 3 and when I attempt to install the drivers the computer resest it's self consistantly towards the end of the installation! I have tried running the ATI Catalyst Driver setup program and installing manually and the machine resets it's self at the end without warning!
The card is now in slot 4 and the drivers installed. However I am getting "This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. (Code 12)" like before.

  • Neo 2 platinum BIOS

Does anyone know a BIOS for MSI Neo 2 platinum that supports san diego CPUS AND gives u high vcore values EXCEPT for BIOS 1.36b ??
Any bios from this link: http://www.lejabeach.com/MSIK8N/k8nneo2.html  or newhere else..
    Thanks

San Diego is still just a K8 (hammer architecture) processor with 1MB L2 cache . And it works just as fine with this one as with a "new" bios .
SSE3 instructions is still supported in early bios versions as the bios isn't involved .
Not support for a spesific cpu in a bios can sometime prevent bios posting if the "newer" cpu has
changed temp offsets than the current bios reads .This offset handling has changed several times from clawhammer to newcaste to winchester and later e revisions .
Often it only result in a duff cpu temp reading , but sometime it can be so much out of range that the mobo shuts down .
Those cases you can get "no post" as the mobo misreads temps and shuts itself or cpu down as the AMD design recommends for mobo's.
Other thing is the cpu id identification string shown in bios (cosmetic only) .
X2 cpus need thourogh support though .
And it's probably the missing cpu id code that makes the 1T/2T option missing as the mobo bios
doesn't know the SanDiego cpuid and can't descide and sets the command rate in a failsafe mode that the cpu itself recommends (auto) .
Anyway if you run 1.36 now , the only thing you should do first is to
test the settings in this bios with a64tweaker first before loading it , as recommended in the readme file.
