MSI Neo2 beeep beeep beeep

My MSI Neo2 Pt does this time to time as soon as I power it on.
beeeeep pause beeeeep pause beeeeep pause beeeeep pause ........ infinity
these are not exactly short beeps but not even that long ones.....more like beeeeeep, and its not continous.
How I can get the computer to start -
1] Press reset switch couple of times and system boots/works well
if not
2] remove 1 of 4 mem module
if not
3] remove 2 of 4 mem modules
and this is giving me an headache now.
Memory is OK.
timings are either spd or pretty low, non aggressive.
DDR speed is either 400 or 333
Why is it at one time it works with all 4 modules, but at other times it doesnt even want to start ?
I was running all 4 modules for 3 days without any probs, and when I did this cold stat today, beeeep.....

whats that got to do with it ? Thats for a system builder, my system has been working OK, and this problem happens when I do a cold start.
However if I take one of my modules out, go into BIOS and change "ANYTHING" related to memory or HT multiplier, reboot and put my module in, the system starts, and then I again go in BIOS and revert to all changes made, and system runs fine....till the next cold start.
This mobo is possessed.
besides the beeps I am getting arent even listed in there, and Clearing CMOS with any of those, doesnt get rid of the beeps. Only the 2-3 ways I mentioned above does.

  • MSI Neo2 K8N Platinum - Freezing Issue during games

First off greetings to everyone on these forums...
I purchased the MSI Neo2 K8N Platinum motherboard from NewEgg back at the end of March to compliment the AMD 64 "Winchester" processor that I also purchased at that time to replace a slightly older AMD XP "Barton" system that was using the Abit NF7-S motherboard. For the past month I have been fighting an unusual and highly irritating issue that I have noticed during game play and have tried everything that I know of and more in an attempt to remedy this issue, but to no avail. This is the general background of the situation and now I will descibe in greater detail as to what this issue I am referring to is and the symptoms of this issue and some of the various methods used to remedy this issue.
The issue is that while play a game the system experiences a short 5-10 second freeze during the game randomly, but usually several times an hour. During this freezing the sound would loop and as suddenly as the freeze occurs it would cease and the game would continue on as if nothing happened. However, sometimes this would result in the system freezing outright after this short 5-10 second freeze... but it does not feel like a total system freeze, but rather a video freeze as the sound continues and I still have keyboard control... but this does require me to force a manual reboot of the machine itself. I have scowered the internet and various forums in an attempt to find what the issue was and use various methods to remedy this issue, but so far nothing has worked in my favor... but it does seem like this issue has been plaguing other users with the MSI Neo2 Platinum motherboard. Below are some of the methods that I have used in an attempt to solve this issue:
*Default Clock for CPU/Memory/GPU; Over/Under Clock for CPU/Memory/GPU
*Increased voltages to CPU VID, AGP, and Memory
    *Disabled/Enabled AGP Fast Writes
*Increased AGP Aperture from 64MB to 512MB
*Enabled/Disabled ATI/nVidia Speedup option in BIOS
*Forced AGP clock lock to 66-67mhz
    *Relaxed/Aggressive memory timings
    *APIC enabled/disabled
    *Gate A20 turbo/normal
*Disabled all unneeded onboard components (Realtek NIC, Sound, SATA)
*Disabled nVidia MAC and attempted to use 3Com Gigabit PCI card instead
    *Swapped HDD Cables
*Tried PCI Sound Card (SB Audigy2 ZS Gamer) in PCI Slots 3/4
*Tried video drivers from 71.89 Official to 76.45 beta modified drivers
*Tried 5.10 official nForce drivers to remixed 7.02 nForce drivers (5.10 drivers uses 4.36 GART, higher drivers uses the 4.40 GART)
*Applied all the latest updates from Windows Update Website
*Reinstalled Operating System (Windows XP SP2) 5 different times clean with various settings (APIC on/off, etc...) and different drivers.
*Installed Audio Card (SB Audigy2 ZS Gamer) with older and the latest drivers available from Creative's website
    *Replaced PSU (Previously was a Thermaltake 420watt PSU, 18A +12v) with a OCZ Modstream 520watt PSU (28A +12v)
*Video card is KNOWN working from previous build (AMD XP 3000, Abit NF7-S)
*Hard Drive is KNOWN working from previous build
*CD/DVD-ROM drive is kNOWN working from previous build
*Heat is not an issue... all components temperature is well below rated level, the only unknown is the chipset temperature (it has a active heatsink and seems to not be hot to the touch, applied AS5 to it anyway)
*Used latency tweak to the video card
*Used Rivatuner to force constant performance level
*Tweaked BIOS to force even clock rates and forced 1.4v to the GPU Core
    *Used original GPU BIOS
    *Used MSI Neo2 K8N Bios 1.4 - 1.8 and modified BIOS 1.8
*No background applications are running (not even antivirus)
*Used application to force maximum refresh rates for my monitor
*Memory passed MemTest86+ for over 24 hours
*System passed Prime95 and SuperPi for over 24 hours
*System seems stable in all non gaming related applications
    *Checked through various troubleshooting procedures
    *Disabled SBDRVDET.EXE using MSCONFIG
*There are no IRQ conflicts outside of PCI system management sharing IRQ11 with the NIC and USB... in APIC there are no IRQ conflicts what so ever. Regardless neither method worked
*Installed AMD 64 drivers from AMD
    *Disabled DEP in boot.ini
*...and many other various tweaks and modifications.

I have been fighting this issue for well over a month now and I am frankly nearly out of ideas, this does not necessarly prevent me from playing games, but this does interfere with the games I do play (especially online games). I do demand absolute stability from the games that I play and this issue only began AFTER I upgraded to the new motherboard, processor, and memory. The only thing I have not tried is something that I do not have access in attempting on this motherboard, and that is increasing the voltage to the chipset.
Here is my theory on what is going on is that I believe is there is a fault with the chipset on this motherboard and this is manifesting itself while I am playing various games on this system. Of course I would like to try increasing the voltage to the chipset as that would increase stability, but there is no option in BIOS to increase the chipset voltage like the previous motherboard I had (Abit NF7-S). It is possible that either a) the chipset is at fault and is causing me this issue or b) the chipset is not recieving enough voltage.
My question to the rest of you is this, what do you think the problem is and what ideas do you have that I may try that I have not tried yet. Additionally if there is nothing else that I may try should I attempt to RMA this motherboard and will that help, and is there any other versions of this motherboard that I should be aware of. I would appreciate any response from a MSI representative and any comments from those that may have positive suggestions for my issue. Thank you in advance for your time and any help that you may be able to render.

Does it only happen in online games, or can it happen in all games? One thing to make sure of is to turn off CRC checksum offload in your NVidia MAC properties (everyone do this, it is incorrectly calculating checksums which leads to servers ignoring your packets). However as you have tried a different network card you can discount this theory.
For me it looks like the biggest culrpit is your 6800NU, i have read alot of bad things about the NU and you have a low bios revision there, just because it worked well against your old chipset doesnt mean it will work well against your current chipset. Sounds like a BIOS fix is needed as some timing is out somewhere.
Ensure Spread Spectrum is off (and as you have already pointed out Fast writes, ATI NV Speedup) and your card is running at default clock.
As a test beg/borrow/steal another graphics card (preferably nvidia) and see how it goes so you can narrow in on your video card.
It is not just one game, but it is more prodominate in certain games than others... the game in question here is Planetside... though I stuck a demo of Unreal Tournament 2004 on a loop bot match and it seemed to have locked up after 4 hours (not sure how many times it experienced that 5-10 freeze as I went to bed). As for the video card it was KNOWN working from a previous build in those same games (Previous build was a AMDXP3000 and a Abit NF7-S nForce2 motherboard). The only components different in this build is the AMD64, the MSI Neo2 K8N, 2 new sticks of Corsair XMS to replace the Corsair ValueSelects, and the SB Audigy2 as I would never use a software codec audio solution. Spread Spectrum is LOCKED in BIOS and disabled... ATI/nVidia speed up was disabled from the start... and I tried the Video Card at default clock, over clocked, as well as under clocked and the same issue resulted... as I said before it is NOT the video card.
There are two other things I could try is use my old Geforce4ti 4200 and see what happens... or even try out WindowsXP 64-bit edition as someone earlier suggested. I wish I could find a new BIOS for my XFX 6800NU, but there there is only the revision 1 BIOS that I was able to find. The mystery continues...

  • MSI Neo2-P network cable unplugged

Hello I am new here and do not come even close to posessing the levels of knowledge I havbe read in some posts.  That said I have an issue that I found some threads slightly relevant to but not entierly.\
    I have a
    MSI Neo2-P
    with the realtek network adapter.
I have been running this comp on a home network for 6 months with minor issues but nothing major.  today I received a sys tray icon saying that a network canble is unplugged (realtek).  I am nolonger able to connect to the internet or net work however my linksys software sees the networks  out there.
It would seem like an easy fix, but i have no idea what cable the error is reffereing to.  I see no cables I see no ethernet port.  PLease advise if youi can help. thanks

Please posts more of your rig and list in details of your PSU and Bios Revision and put it in your Signature!! Is your network cabling ok or not? Loosing? Tried to unplugged the cable and if you're using a switch hub tried to changed other ports.

  • Vga silencer (ati) fit on msi neo2 939

I am concerned about the clearance between the northbridge fan and my vga silencer (ati ver.1)  used currently on my ati 9800pro.  I have ordered the msi neo2 and think that it will barely fit but wondered if anyone else have noticed this.
    Thank you
    Kim

I had a little problem installing mine. It took me a couple of minutes to figure out what was going on. The H/L switch on the VGA Silenser was hitting one of the capasitors on the mobo and I couldn't push the card all the way in. I had to unbolt and reposition the switch. And like the others said there's not much room between the NB fan and the card, but it does fit. I think it would be chalanging trying to get to the AGP slot clip with that tight fit. Good luck!

  • MSI Neo2 FR and ATI 4870

does anybody have a similar setup? i seem to be having problems getting my system to boot with a ATI 4870 in, i have tried everything. i even purchased a new PSU but i'm still getting the same result, has anybody came across a problem like this before with this board?
i dont really see why it would be causing a problem as my current 8000GT runs fine on the board :(
    much thx

    hi thx for the reply
as far as the board goes its a MSI Neo2 FR this is the one http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=proddesc&maincat_no=1&cat2_no=170&prod_no=1261
when i try to boot with the HD4870 in i get and error and going by the lights on the board it would be a problem with the graphics interface, green, red, red, red, i replace the card with my old 8800GT and the system boots fine. i know theres nothing wrong with the ATI 4870 card as its been sent back to the place i bought it from and tested and seems to be fine :/
edit: i also have the latest bois which is v1.10

  • Fastest overclock w MSI Neo2 Digital and AMD64 3000+ with OCZ 512 x 2 premier?

I was looking at a faster CPU and can't be bothered as they are costly and power hungry. I am looking at upgrading my platform with either of an Intel E8500 or the equivalent AMD cpu with an onboard video motherboard with HDMI...
but, for now, since I can't afford to upgrade at the moment, I was wondering if I could safely up my CPU to 2.4 GHZ or less. I have read people going to 2.4+ GHZ so I figure I could try going to 2.2, 2.3 or 2.4 GHZ. The CPU is literally worth next to nothing, so it's worth a try. Any thoughts? If there are risks in overclocking close to the limits, I'll back it off to 2.2 or 2.3 GHZ, but, I should still see SOME improvement.
My Motherboard is an MSI Neo2 Platinum.
    thanks,

You should give the full name of your MB in signature, I assume it's a K8N Neo2 Platinum. Same thing for vid card, GTS without number doesn't say much (example of mine: 9600 GT). It's possible as you said to get it to 2.4 but some systems will OC better than others so you just have to go for it and see what you come up with. Keep an eye on CPU temp when attempting any OC.
Read what you can about OCing it and then if any more questions or have any problems post back here and we'll help the best we can.

  • MSI Neo2 FX, AMD 939 RAM question

    Hi to all,
I have an old Athlon 64 on the MSI Neo2 FX with the nvidia chipset.
According to the MB manual, I could install 4 DIMM (Double sided) and have a DDR333, Dual Channel.
But, in my case, I have 4 DIMMS (Double sided), which BIOS POST reports that runs at 200Mhz, not 333, in dual channel 128bit mode.
BIOS options, seems not to change and I would not like to change the FSB from 200 to 333.
    Any ideas?

    Why is it fine?,
Yes, your maths are OK. But:
    http://www.msi.com/product/mb/K8N-Neo2-FX.html#?div=Detail
Look at the table of the details (it's the same as in my manual).
According to that table, my RAM configuration should not be 400Mhz, but 333Mhz.
    And something else:
The DIMMS are 2 Kingston and 2 Corsair. All modules have the same click speeds and are double sided. So, should I enter them as:
Kingston (Green), Corsair (purple), Kingston (Green), Corsair (Purple), or as:
Kingston (Green), Kingston (Purple), Corsair(Green), Corsair (Purple)

Are you using a stock VGA cooler?
You should check out the NV 5 Silencer, was a breeze to install.
    http://www.nvnews.net/reviews/arctic_cooler_nv5_silencer/index.shtml
The guy in the review had a tough time, I dunno why, was easy for me.
It drop my temps from 57 C from stock cooler to 37 C with the silencer and it's so quiet.
It really helped my card in O'C and such.  NO artifacts after that , and I was able to use fastwrite which boosted my CPU score up again in 3dmark05
If you have 37C idle then you graphic card sensor is broken dude. It is just imposiblle to get that temp with nv 5 unless you live in alaska and your computer is outside:D

  • MSI Neo2 Plat wont work!

Hey guys, recently bought all new parts for a computer:
MSI Neo2 Platinum Socket 939 Mobo
    AMD 3500+ 939 not proccess .013 micron i think?
    WD 160GB 8mb SATA HD
    Leadtek Gforce 6800GT 256mb AGP8x
    Corsair XMS Extreme 1gb (512 x 2)
ok so I put all the things together and try to start the computer. At the first screen where it shows the VGA bios info its all in symbols and in different colors and I cant read anything and when it goes to the MSI Neo2 Platinum Edition Screen I cant see it well either. It then goes onto Verifying DMI Pool Data... and hangs there. All 4 leds are on, for the D bracket thing. Everything is in symbols and I cannot read anything nor enter bios. HELP PLZ!
PS. Turns out I can enter bios but there are black square spots all over the place preventing me from actively reading the bios settings and such.

Sounds like a faulty video card to me.
Try using a spare video card for testing.
But don't test with one that is too old. I believe this mobo only suports video cards that use the 1.5V standard. Usually any AGP 4X or better will do.

  • MSI Neo2 nforce3 -- can't get USB 2.0.

    Hi guys
be gentle with me, Im a newbie.
Have just had my chip, memory and board replaced under warranty and have MSI Neo2 nforce3 with 3200+ and 1gb ddr. I have done all my windows updates, service packs, drivers from MSI et al and after hooking up my Maxtor One Touch am informed that it is working at reduced speeds as no high speed usb port is installed. I thought all this was done under the windows updates. I have tried removing the USB drivers and allowing windows to find its own drivers but no luck.
Are there any issues with this board that I should know about with USB 2.0.
I have also updated the board BIOS and can no longer see the setting to select as below, its no longer there, simply and enable disable switch.
    OnChip USB
This setting allows you to enable/disable the onboard USB controller. Selecting
[V1.1+V2.0] enables the system to support both USB 1.1 and 2.0 spec. Setting
    options: [Disabled], [V1.1], [V1.1+V2.0].
    Any thoughts, much appreciated.

Was quite easy to do. Go along to www.bootdisk.com and make a Windows ME bootdisk (with CDROM support).
Then go to MSI and download BIOS (zip file) 1.9 for the motherboard. There are 4 files in the zip file including full instructions and what to type. Take note, there are special instructions there for xp users using the NTFS file system. You will end up with 2 floppy disks.
NB Instructions tell you to copy both files to the ramdrive. I simply copied mine to C:\ and it all worked out well.
    Hope this helps.

  • MSI NEO2 Platinum, problem with mouse Genius PS2 optical

    Hello,
I have a MSI NEO2 Platinum motherboard with a mouse Genius optical PS2. When the S.O. init the mouse is not detected, I unplug and plug again the PS2 port and the mouse work perfectly ! ... The mouse is working perfectly, I test it in another PC, the problem is the motherboard !
The same situation is on Windows XP Professional and Linux Ubuntu 5.10.
Please help me, thanks for your attention !

    Raúl,
The PS2 slot is NOT a hot plug! If you remove and reinstall it while there is power to the mobo you stand a very good chance of destroying the PS2 Slot.

  • MSI Neo2-FIR P35 failed...How do I retain my RAID 0 setup?

    Hello everyone!
Just a few days ago I turned my PC on, left the room, came back, and found my 'MSI Neo2-FIR P35' dead
Back in 2008, I thought it would be cool to setup my two Samsung 320GB Spinpoint HDs as a RAID 0. I remember when I was piloting my RAID, all data was wiped after I attached it to a different motherboard.
I read that the RAID can be retained if you use a motherboard with the identical 'RAID controllers'. But honestly, I haven't seen any details about the controllers to compare motherboards.
I want to save the data I currently have!
    1) Will the RAID, and thus the data, be recognized if I use another MSI Neo2-P35 motherboard? If so, will the OS boot as if nothing ever happened?
    2) Is it possible to attach the RAID to any newer MSI motherboards?
    3) Does someone have any other advice on how to save my HDs?
    Hope someone can help!

So, in case I can't find another MSI neo2-FR/FIR P35...How do I know which RAID controller a motherboard has?
What will I be looking for?
"4 SATAII with 2 eSATA ports with transfer rate up to 3Gb/s"? OR "Serial ATA RAID 0/1/5/10"? The latter seems very generic...

is it confirmed that the board and not something else
Well To be very honest, I haven't placed my CPU in another PC because I don't know anyone with a 775 socket. So it hasn't been confirmed yet.
But, when i first built my PC I had some DOA parts. This MSI mobo has a smart way of showing what the problem is in case it can't boot through LED-light combinations, but none of these lights are shown... When I connect the power-supply, I do see a RED standby light, even though I think it used to be GREEN . And when I press the power-button nothing happens... occasionally I see the blue LED light of my GPU blink.. but nothing else happens.
    My mobo specs:
    • Intel® ICH9R Chipset
    - Hi-Speed USB (USB2.0) controller, 480Mb/sec, up to 12 ports.
    - 4 SATAII with 2 eSATA ports with transfer rate up to 3Gb/s.
    - PCI Master v2.3, I/O APIC.
    - ACPI 2.0 compliant.
    - Serial ATA RAID 0/1/5/10.
    - Integrated AHCI controller.

    bejon2000,
    Good point bejon,
I re-read the article and this what it says: " ....If you remember, older Athlon 64 processors based on 130nm cores didn’t support 4 double-sided DDR400 SDRAM modules working at 400MHz frequency at all and reduced their frequency to 333MHz automatically. The today’s processors based on 90nm cores offer us a few better solutions. The D core revision also known as Winchester allows using four double-sided DDR400 memory DIMMs if the Command Rate timing is set to 2T."
From what you posted the Winnie D core CPU may need a little TLC and voltage boost. but it should run 4 X double sided 512 sticks at DDR 400 and 2T. Venice or later core may not need such TLC or voltage boost but still need manual  selections in BIOS Cell menu.
    Thanks for pointing this out,

The problem seems quite odd to me, so I decided to post here. Generally, the PC is stable, passes more than an hour of Prime95, 3d marks run fine etc.. but in Windows (XP Sp1) I'm getting this annoying issue: when I let the system run idle for a while, with none or some windows open but no programs active, my computer literally freezes. I can move the mouse, but i can't open any windows or click any buttons. Still, the keyboard is responding so I hit ALT + CTRL + DEL and get the Windows Security window. There I click on the Task Manager and all i get is an empty desktop, with the wallpaper but no icons or any activity whatsoever.
    Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Nope.. And I hardly believe it's a software issue. Will try a fresh install of XP today, nut the reason of such strange behaviour escapes me :] Cmon people, any ideas ?
If you problem isn't related to software, then the only other thing that comes to mind is that overclocking is the culprit.  I'm not overclocking anything (except my 3d card, and that only slightly) and have no such problems with my K8N Neo2.  You describe a strange problem, certainly, and in my own experience such behaviors--system runs great in some normal situtations but in others it doesn't--have always been related to overclocking of some kind.  If you aren't overclocking anything then it's probably software induced.  Good luck!
