Msi Neo2 Plat : NV Sata Raid Problems

Hi Guys, Im new here, but seems like a mighty fine forums you have here
I recently brought some Raptors off a mate, there sata and i wish to raid them. Ive spend 4 DAYS trying to install windows on them, but it seemed like everything that could go wrong, was going wrong.
Ok, let me cut to the chase, I think its the NV RAID drivers. Here are 3 facts that lead me to this reason.
1: Both SATA drives work perfect in Windows on my old partiton. They can raid fine and are super fast.
2: I can install Windows on both partitions seperatly fine, so the SATA drivers must be working.
3: When loading the files off the floppy, it runs fine and it recognises the drives as "Nivida set up" or something like that. So the floppy drivers should be ok.
(before you ask, i have set them up correctly in bios and gone into the raid menu and raided them fine)
Now, when windows copies the files and reboots to the second stage, it asks me if i want to install drivers.
If i say Yes it asks me if i want to install SATA and also P ATA drivers. If I do this when it finishes the install, it reboots attempts to boot off the raid array, it goes blank just before the windows logo and restarts.
If i say no to the drivers, it goes through fine, but it loads the windows logo, and then reboots before loading welcome screen.
(This was my expression as i thaught i had fixed it then   +  )
Anyway, Here are my specs if you need them.
AMD 3500 newcastle core
MSI K8N NEO2 54g
2x 512 corsair 4000 sticks
2x sata Raptor 10,000 36 gb
480 watt psu
ati x800xt pe
Thanks for any reply's guys. There all appreciated.
Fenny
(btw. If anyone can help me get this sorted, I will do ANYTHING for them (with a few exceptions

I had that same problem with my 2 samsung 80g sata drives, only that i could get raid-0 working when connecting them in ports 1 and 2, but that was not good cause i wanted to overclock... and when i connected them in ports 3 and 4, i couldnt get raid-0 working, i got just similar problem than you. I thougt that raid-0 just wont work installing windows on it in ports 3 and 4. But now i have read that it works with some users, maybe i should try it again someday

  • SATA RAID problem on K8N Neo2 Platinum (nForce3 ultra) & winXP x64

I entered on MSI driver dowload page, put my model, and i found out that the RAID driver for win x64 wasn't released (nforce3 ultra), but in the same page was the driver for the nforce4, so I supposed it was compatible. I made the driver disk. press F6 and he askme for the drivers, ok, i introduce BOTH drivers, he detects perefctly the SATA RAID (stripping) format the disk, copy the files and ask me for some .CATof teh raid driver that wasn't on the zip file.... omit files, reboots, completes the instalation, but on the first boot of win x64 when it's just about to show the windows screen, a bue windows, and resets the pc so fast that's unreadable.  fail safe start.. same crash.
I Installed win on an IDE and it run prefectly... In th other hand... without installing any driver the windows instalation recognices the SATA drives, but not the RAID. Maybe I just got to install the raid driver but not the SATA driver... the nforce3 driver form nvidia.com is pretty old... The real funny is that when i installed winXp x64 BETA i hadn' any problem... (winXP 64 doesn't admit the 32 bit driver=
Which driver i'm supposed to install? to INSTALL winxp64 on a SATA RAID and make it boot from there?
    Thaks a lot

HI! i'm the one wih the raid problem on a k8n neo2....
That's what a i Did.. i unpacked the exe and copy the files in a floppy... question is: if i do that, windows instaler askme for some files that aren't in the .exe, anway it reconices the raid and everithing goes fine until the first BOOT on windos... it shows a blue screen, butremoves it so fast that i cant read it or pause the system. But i know it's a raid problem because if i install it on a ide disk it works.
The nforce3 drivers are almost a year old, and i'm not sure if nforce4 is compatible...
I think the're compatible because if you enter in msi driver download page and select my model, they put the Nforce3 and nforce4 for win64 and my model is only nforce3. The thing is they havent released the nforce3 for WIN 64.... So.. It's normal that win asks me for some files that ain't in the .zip file (i extracted the files o course) and Which driver should i put the Nvidia one year old nforce3 or the new nforce4. (the nforce3 for 32 bits is rejected by windows) or... i have to wait the new nforce3?
    thanks for helps

  • K8N Neo2 SATA Raid problem finally solved

    Hi guys,
finally got my SATA Raid 0 array to work.
Problem was that XP didn't find a correct array on installation although i used F6
to load drivers from disk. Sometimes it didn't detect any hard disk, sometimes
it showed two hd's and an array and so...
The whole spectrum of errors mentioned here over the last days and weeks...
I tried different bios like 1.1, 1.2, 1.2b5, 1.3b5 and i got the newest drivers
directly from nvidia as mentioned in some other thread. Nothing worked.
One should think that nvidia would have the latest drivers... but that was the
    major fault.
As mentioned in a different thread i downloaded the unified nforce drivers from
nvidia's homepage and extracted the ide drivers to a floppy. I used these drivers
in all of my attempts and it never worked..
Yesterday i downloaded the MSI Nvidia nForce3 System Drivers package 5.03 from
    http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/download/dld/spt_dld_detail.php?UID=607&kind=1
and compared the version numbers to the files from the nvidia package.
The relevant files nvatabus.sys and nvraid.sys are version 5.10.2600.412 from
nvidia while the MSI versions are 5.10.2600.446 !!
I put these files on the disk, set up my bios (default 1.1) from scratch, started XP installation,
hit F6, loaded the new drivers and voila... one 230 gb array ready for installation
Took me FOUR days to figure this out. THANK YOU MSI support team,
wherever you are.... (definitely not working on an updated hp)
So to put it in one line:
What really worked for me were the drivers from the MSI nforce3 driver package 5.03
No messing around with beta bios, no voltage tweaking or SATA 3/4 preferred
    or DIMM Slot preferred crap.
Of course you have to set up an raid array as described in rsheppicks raid setup guide
Only thing about bios versions is that only in bios 1.1 i got an array shown in the
    hard disk boot priority list
So i hope this helps you guys out there that are having troubles setting up SATA Raid.

OK now! Dag, I was going crazy. I had two brand new Raptors and was trying to hook them up in a RAID 0 config. I am no dummy. It would hang at detecting arrays. I could not figure it out for the life of me. I will not talk about all of the combos that I tried. My buddy told me to try datalifeguard from WD. I did. Well, one HD showed no serial number in the extended test. An error message popped up. Said the drive was not working. So, Newegg sends me a dead drive and wastes days and days out of my life. I hooked up the one good drive just now. What do I see? For the first time in my life, I am seeing the raid bios! This almost cost me a divorce. Seriously though, the wife would come in and rub my shoulders like a fighter after a few hours of getting my azz whipped by this new rig. I am now going to make the floppy with the newer drivers like was done here. Just incase. I am in Raid bios now in the other room. Time to go set up XP on one drive for now. I refuse to wait for the RMA'ed second Raptor.

  • Scared to get a Neo2 Plat with all the problems here!

I plan on getting a Neo2 Plat, but scared from all these problems that people are asking about...I dont want problems :(

kweckstrom I'm still a little confused you claim to have been building computers since computers were practically invented but you coulden't figure out how to get a new 939 board up and running reliably?? It's really not that hard.. not like the P90 (the pentium that didn't run)
    1 you check for compatability,
    2 you buy your parts,
    3 you put it together..
    4 it runs.
First of all, you should read an entire post before replying. You must not have read it, because I obviously DID figure it out.
If you look at the compatibility list for the MSI board, it's abysmal. They test VERY few modules, and they haven't tested anything newer. Newer modules (like the newer Corsair XL's or Micron Ballistix) remain untested, and aren't likely to BE tested "officially". The Corsair 3200LLPT's worked fine in my P4 rig. They worked fine on the Gigabyte 939 NF3 board. One can reasonably expect that they would have worked fine on the MSI, after all it's the same chipset.
But no, they didn't.  Not even after upgrading my power supply. Yet if I slap all this stuff together on the gigabyte board, all was fine and dandy, even on a PS that only delivered 18A on +12v.
When I tried out the ballistix, I ran into even worse problems, even after ignoring SPD and upping voltage to it's rated 2.8v. But after upgrading my Power Supply, those problems went away and the system is now rock solid and stable.
I'm an older guy with a wife and 2 kids, not to mention a full-time career as a network engineer. I don't have tons of nights and weekends to work through nagging compatibility or stability issues. That's why I say I wouldn't put myself through that mess again.
    Quote
If your buying enthousiast grade parts expect to do a little research first because it's a fact there are more untested parts and there will be some incompatabilities but it's absolutely no different than any intel platform of the same age..
Maybe you should have had someone with a little more time and skill build a system for you??
Then you may have been able to aviod these PEBCAK errors lol
Taking the high road, I see
You should actually read my post next time. I solved the problem long ago. I'm simply saying that this platform is an annoying one because there are tons of incompatibilities that lead to stability issues. That's fact, and you aren't much of an engineer if you dispute it.
What you say about intel systems of the same age is completely untrue. You'd have a hard time finding an intel board that's incompatible with DDR2 by any specific vendor. You'd also have a hard time finding any intel boards that have quirks with PCI Express cards. You'll also have a hard time finding any Power Supply compatibilities with LGA775, because a specific type of power supply is required (dual-rail with PCI-E headers). Sorry, you're wrong here.
On the Athlon64-939, out of the gate you'll have problems with certain hardware.
Take the Geforce 6800's.... The 6800's don't require 2D and 3D clock speeds to be identical on a P4 system. The bios by default doesn't normalize clock speeds for 2d and 3d, because a 425mhz 2D core value uses power needlessly and doesn't make much sense. But if you're on the Nforce3 platform, you're FORCED to set them identically or your 3d games will stutter and eventually freeze.
There's people with issues on Nforce3 using Fast Writes. Some people have to disable them. You simply don't need to do this on intel.
There's people with issues using Audigy cards (the original Audigy 1). They cause BSOD's. This doesn't happen on Intel systems. They work fine there. (Audigy 2 is unaffected).
If someone's doing research into problems regarding the Athlon64 platform, i'm not going to blow sunshine up everyone's butt. I'm going to tell it like it is. I'm not married to any specific vendor, and i'm not someone who's going to insult someone's system building or research skills because he ran into problems with his latest build.
These problems are VERY real, and if you read this board it's LOADED with people who are having issues with stability. You shouldn't be quick to blame their research or skill with a screwdriver.

  • NEO4 Plat Sli SIL3231 Raid problem - Can't boot after BIOS Flash!

Hi, I have and Neo4 Platinum SLI. I had "the problem" a while back with the nVida raid where there was a hang on shutdown. I then created a RAID0 using my two Rators on the SIL3132 controller, and have three hitachi drives hooked up to SATA1 - SATA3. Back then, I had trouble getting my SIL3132 array to be the main boot volume. I could boot when no other drives were attached, but as soon as I attached them, I get the boot disk error after post. Somehow I got it to work, but not think this time, I flashed the BIOS and ran into the same problems, as the BIOS got reset.
First, I went in and re-enabled RAID on the sil3132 controller, and change the boot order to have the RAID voluime be the first boot device, and my other drivers be the next on down the line. Upon rebooting, my system hangs after verifying DMI pool at a blanksscreen for 5 - 10 minutes then gives my the "missing HAL.dll error". if I go back into the BIOS and disable SATA1/SATA2 and SATA3/SATA4 my computer boots just fine. I even completley disconnected my three drives an my system boots just fine. I have searched these forums and could not find anything close to my issue and wondered if it is something I am just missing in the setup. I will say that at POST my IDE devices has always read:
    IDE Primary Master [None]
    IDE Secondary Master [None]
IDE Primary Slave (my first DVD/R drive)
IDE Secondary Slave (My second DVD/R drive)
IDE Third Master (a 250gb drive)
IDE Fourth Master (a 250gb drive)
IDE Fifth Master (a 250gb drive)
    IDE Sixth Master [None]
Is this normal? all my hard drives are SATA. the raptors and three SATAII drives.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Since the Nvida raid problem seems to have been fixed (as far as I read) I would like to go back to using the nVidia raid controller. I just need to back up my system first!
    Thanks in advance.

    Jkmet,
I have noted the same problem, with a USB Pen drive.
If I leave it plugged in and shut down, the next time I cold boot it tries to boot for the pen drive.  What I found out the any time you add a drive before booting the BIOS places it at the top of the Hard Drive Priority list making it the boot drive.  Same thing happens when I plug in a new SATA and does not mater where it is connected.  So, what I have to do any time you add a drive with the power off you have to boot to BIOS reset the Hard drive priority list, then save, exit and reboot to boot from you windows drive.
I am sure this is a BIOS Bug, but MSI states that the way it should would work.
    Roger
When submitting a problem, include a complete list of your system components; include part numbers, all Power Supply Voltages, and their output ratings.  It is almost impossible to estimate what your problem is without knowing something about it. Here is the link to the web site.

HI there, my IBM MCS 7815 server does not boot when i enable SATA raid in BIOS. The documentation recommends to turn it on but when i do i get a STOP error at OS startup. Does anybody know how to solve this?
    Thanks in advance,

    0x0000007B INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE
    0×0000007B INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE
The system cannot access the boot device. Often, this message signifies a disk controller
configuration problem or an error in accessing the hard disk. This clearly indicates that
Windows has lost access to the system partition during startup.
Another possible cause is that, during initialization of the I/O system, the driver for
the boot device failed to initialize the boot device (device not available, SCSI error).
Another possibility is that the file system could not recognize the data on the boot
device. The message also might mean that a virus has infected the boot sector.
I recommend you to open a case with us for further troubleshooting.

  • MSI Neo2 Plat wont work!

Hey guys, recently bought all new parts for a computer:
MSI Neo2 Platinum Socket 939 Mobo
    AMD 3500+ 939 not proccess .013 micron i think?
    WD 160GB 8mb SATA HD
    Leadtek Gforce 6800GT 256mb AGP8x
    Corsair XMS Extreme 1gb (512 x 2)
ok so I put all the things together and try to start the computer. At the first screen where it shows the VGA bios info its all in symbols and in different colors and I cant read anything and when it goes to the MSI Neo2 Platinum Edition Screen I cant see it well either. It then goes onto Verifying DMI Pool Data... and hangs there. All 4 leds are on, for the D bracket thing. Everything is in symbols and I cannot read anything nor enter bios. HELP PLZ!
PS. Turns out I can enter bios but there are black square spots all over the place preventing me from actively reading the bios settings and such.

Sounds like a faulty video card to me.
Try using a spare video card for testing.
But don't test with one that is too old. I believe this mobo only suports video cards that use the 1.5V standard. Usually any AGP 4X or better will do.

  • 875p NEO-LSR SATA RAID problems

Just got a machine build today. Every so often the Intel SATA Raid bios reports one of the drives are missing. (Same drive everytime i think) If I press Ctrl+Alt+Del it shows back up and I can continue booting windows. I have bios v1.6. It seems to happen when I let the machin sit idle for a while then reboot. If I reboot as soon as I get into windows it will not reproduce. It has happened about 4 time now.
    Specs
    P4 3.0c
    Corsaird TwinX LL PC3200 (2x256MB)
    Gigabyte R9800 Pro 128MB
    2 Seagate SATA 160GB Drives
    350W Antec PSU
    Aopen CDRW/DVD
    WinXP Pro SP1

    Update.
I tried the drives in my IC7 and the problem went away. I swapped power supplies (used the enermax from my IC7 system) and the problem still occurred. Is there anything else I can try before I request an RMA?
    Thanks, Justin

  • K8N Neo2 platinum & 750g sata RAID issue

Hi there I have an issue with booting up. I have 1 200g Western digital HDD where windows is installed and I have 1 further 500g WD drive which were both fine until I decided to buy 2 samsung 750g HDD's to run in RAID. I have installed the drives in RAID and formatted but I am having a problem with booting.
If I reset, the computer keeps rebooting at the detection stage, powers off and keeps doing it over and over. Sometimes it will go through if you wait long enough. When I turn the power on and off it will go through the detection stage no worries every time but then at the XP loading screen it will freeze there. Sometimes it goes through and I will boot into XP fine and other times I can't get in.
I have the latest Bios 7025V1D but I am wondering if this issue is bios related because of the 750g size... The problem has only started since I have installed the two 750g HDD's in RAID. Does this bios version support 750g HDD's? Is there an updated BIOS to fix this problem somewhere?
I have 2gig of ram, 3500+ processor, latest Nforce3 drivers from Nvidia, RAID drives on sata ports/3/4, 500gig WD on sata port 1, 200 gig WD is HDD is IDE, Windows SP2 and all updated, ummmmmm everything else is fine I'm fairly sure.
I had a few troubles installing the RAID drivers because windows didn't want to accept the drivers I downloaded from here and did not want to accept the drivers in windows. I ended up getting it the drives to come on-line through the use of START/NVIDIA corp/ NVIDIA RAID program (cant remember the name, typing this on another computer).
Any ideas would be greatly and very muchly appreciated!
    Terry.

    Ok My PSU is: WideTECH 550w, +3.3v=33a, +5v=36a, +12v=25a, -12v=1.0a, +5vsb=2.5a.
I am only running 3 HDD's at the moment, the 2 750's and the 1 200gig. I have left the other 500gig unplugged until I get this problem sorted. I don't have a cd rom plugged in or a floppy. I only connect them when I need to because this computer is setup to be a storage server and I use my other pc for anything dvd related etc. The only other thing which is chewing power is the video card which is an old 6800gt ultra. So basically the power issue was fine until I installed the two extra HDD's and as I have unplugged the 500gig for the time being its only really one extra HDD which shouldn't be an issue. Oh I have two 80mm case fans using the psu aswell.
As for my other specs: I have 1 gig of Geil dual channel RAM 2x512 sticks, CPU=AMD Athlon64 3500+, MB is MSI K8n Neo2 Platinum, Vid card= Leadtek geforce 6800gt ultra 256 agp, You know about my HDD's but here they are again= 1x 200g WD caviar IDE, 1x 500g WD caviar sata(1 I think), 2 x 750g samsung sata (2 I think), OS = XP Home SP2 with all lasest automatic updates, latest BIOS etc etc etc....
My windows is a legit copy as well.
You mentioned putting my HDD's into sata 1 mode... I was of the opinion that my motherboard does not support sata2 anyway and would not allow them to run in anything but sata1?? If I did want to change the sata mode where would I do this anyway?
Thanks for your reply but I don't think it has to do with psu or sata mode although I'm interested about this sata2 thing, please explain.
    Thanks in advance,
    Terry.

  • Installing sata raid problem, need help plz!!!!!!

i just bought 2 seagate 200G sata hd, and here coms the problem:

    a black screen for ever!!
even lucky to pass this step, boot to xp cd, hit F6 then insert the floppy, and install the 376/378 driver(tryed about 4 different driver), 3 line show on the blue screen" presse Enter to install windows xp, press R for recovery, press F3 to quit" hit Enter, another blue screen says "cant find hard drive, check the cable and power connecter.....", something like that, oh i am soooo pissed off :(.......
someone plz help, any suggests are welcome!!!
    btw, my system is:

looks like someone made their homework prior to posting
the amps on the psu is okay but you didnt supply 5v but that should not be a problem
    Quote
    strip 2+0, 400099m, functional.
    sounds wrong.
    never heard of 2+0.
do you got any harddrive connected to ide3 ?
if not then delete all arrays and then create 1 array.
    raid 0 for performance.
    raid 1 for security.
    size 16kb and try again.

  • K8N Neo2 Plat. SATA Converter

Hey there folks! I'm new to these forums, but not to MSI products. I recently upgraded to a K8N NEO2 Platinum, an A64 3500+ and a WD SATA 80GB SATA drive. I also have a Maxtor 120GB IDE drive that I want to use in this system as a storage drive. Well since I had 1 IDE drive and a new SATA drive I went ahead and got one of those IDE-to-SATA converters so I could keep everything SATA. Well, everything installed ok, but win explorer is not seeing the IDE drive that has the SATA converter on it. In the device manager it says that it is there and working properly, I just can't access the dang thing. I'm using SATA ports 3 and 4 on the motherboard since 1 and 2 didn't want to work at all. Is there anything I can do to be able to access this drive with the SATA converter? The SATA converter is labeled SABR1000DV. Here is a link to the SATA converter...
    http://www.sunix.com.tw/en/Promotion-1.php?sid=182#
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I bought a SATA HDD that had an adaptor like that so that is essesentially what you have.  I never could get it to work right.  I exchanged it for a SATA drive with a built in SATA interface and it worked just fine.  Thus I think the adapter caused problems.  Others, I know have used such adaptors on IDE drives and get them to work as SATA HDD's.
I don't know why some times the adaptors work and other times they don't.  This doesn't solve your problem but I hope it is helpful information none the lesss.
    Good luck.

  • K9A2 Platinum Sata Raid Problems

I could not get my 2 500 gb seagate 7200.11 drives to work on the sb600 raid controller, in raid 1 (set to raid mode in bios).  I'd set it up and it would remain functional until I formatted it and put stuff on it. Then when I restarted, it says critical and can't locate the second drive, but it shows up in the list of definable drives.  My older 200 gb seagates 7200.9 in the same setup do not have this problem.  I finally got my 500s working by hooking them up to the promise controller instead.  (Although no longer a current problem, I wouldn't mind knowing what would cause this for future occasions.)
My new problem is, I had to unhook all but the drive I wanted to install Windows XP on (A separate 120 JBOD configured drive) so I could get it to be C:/.  This all went fine.  However when I hooked up the 500s again, Windows XP would not boot, the screen just stayed black, with them not hooked up, it boots just fine, with the 200s as well.  When running the Windows XP setup again, the 500s appear as C:/ instead of the 120 in the disk select screen of the install.  It's like the 500s took over the drive letter when they are hooked up and thus can't load.  Is there some way to stop it from doing this or am I completely off on this.
    My computer spec is:
    K9A2 Platinum
    AMD X2 6000
    2*2gb OCZ PC6400
    ATI Radeon 3870
    700 Watt OCZ PSU
Update: Installing XP ignoring the fact its not C: fails.  It copies all the files onto it, then after restarting I get a black screen.
Another Update: On a whim I tried disabling the SB600 raid and set it to AHCI instead as I read that other people were having problems with it and it all works perfectly now.  It's too bad this doesn't work, but I'll just put the 200s back in my old computer instead.

I'm having the exact same problem you did. Same Mobo. Except I started off with Promise RAID 1 because when I tried using SB600 RAID, my SATA DVD drive would not function in Vista Ultimate x64. So I had my Raid 1 configured on Promise T3 with BIOS 2.8.1030.0021 using 2 320GB drives. One of them Seagate, one WD, both 3GB/s transfer, only difference was that Seagate has 16MB cache, while the WD has 8MB. But both drives worked fine in the array for some time, and then after doing some updates from Windows Updates now the Raid config shows that encountered a critial status, "A disk member of an array has failed or is not responding", "Problem is detected with Array : 1". And when I go to the see the Array status it shows the Seagate drive on ID channel 1, but for the 2nd drive it shows questions marks all the way through the item line. I checked the drive, it seems fine. And even when I go to define a second Array, it shows the WD available on channel ID 3. So it definitely see both drives, but how do I re-add that WD drive that it doesn't see to my earlier defined array without loosing data on my Seagate drive?

after reading a lot on sound problem i try first to change my bios so i check the 1.8 and the 1.6 but still no result... , i also try to use the nvidia sound drive instead of the raitek one.... but still nothing ... in the system all appeare to be ok, windows dont detect any conflict on hardware on so one... even the nvidia mixer equaliser move... but no output...
i also read a litle about the compatibylity issue betwen the mobo and the atx2 PSU standard with the using of the 5v pin...,but as far i read it seem that this is only on the sli version...do this issue also concernt the non sli version ?can this explain my problem ?

    Hi!
I am also facing this problem with my K8N NEO4 Platinum Ultra.
I have even tested my PC with a PSU which is having -5v in it's rating.
I have also requested a help from MSI Support.
Their & My reply is as follows.
But still my problem could not be solved.  My sound card as per the OS works fine and produces output.  But no audible output for humans to hear.
This is the case with both front and rear panels.
I have even sent the MB for RMA but here in India, people are fools.  Even from RMA the board was shipped back in the same faulty condition.  What to say?  Whom to curse?  Only money and 20days were spent waiting for repair and in wain.
If any body can help it will be very nice.
Here is my reply to MSI:
My K8n Neo4 Platinum Ultra - earlier was giving good quality sound output. Later after 15 days of using this board, it does not give any audible sound at all. But through headphone socket of cd player I am able to receive good quality sound.
And also while using CD Player to play audio tracks, the output is very intermitent and feeble with lots of cracking noise and poor quality audio is heard.
Through Windows Media Player no sound is heard at all.
I reinstalled win2000/Win2000Server/Win2003 XP Server. In all the platform sound problem exists. Any solutions?
My PSU has 20amps in +12V rail and has no -5v. 24 pin adaptor with 400W.
SATA HDD 80GB WD. 256*2=512mb DDR 400 Ram.
    CPU AMD 3000+ Winchester core.
    Thanks in advance.
    REPLY FROM MSI:
    Dear SoftWheels:
Thank you for contacting MSI Technical Support.
With regard to yoru concern, we would like to know before the onboard sound function abnormally, if you have made any adjustment to your system hardware or software?
And at this time would you please try to un-install the sound driver in the Add or Remove Program, then install the ALC Series AC'97 Audio Drivers refer to the link below, after this please first check if in Device Manager there is any yellow mark.

    AGAIN MY RESPONSE TO MSI:
    Dear Sir,
Thanks for your reply. But reply does not solve my problem. I have tried all that you said in your reply.
I have done nothing to hardware. No electrical problems or burning.
Due to no sound, I have even totally zero filled my SATA hard disk, updated bios, re-installed

  • K8N Neo2 Plat w/ Antec TB480 Problem

Hi all, I'm upgrading some system components.  PSU, MB/Proccessor, RAM.
I set up the MB with only the processor, heatsink/Fan (Gigabyte 3D), 1 stick of the RAM, video card, D-Bracket (for troubleshooting lights), outside the case sitting on the MB box on top of the bag the MB came in.
Attached power to the heatsink/fan, the 20-pin and the 4-pin MB connectors, turned the PSU on, and everything looked great.  The lights were going through their paces, everything looked and sounded real good.
Disconnected the power and removed the video card, put the MB in the case, hooked the PSU back up, put the video card back in, turned on the power, and nothing....
No fans on the PSU, nothing on the MB, just nothing...
Took everything back out, tried it the same way it had worked before, and nothing.
Hooked my old PSU (280w, which while weak, was working with old MB) to the MB (with the PSU sitting outside the case, not sure if that matters) , and ...   Nothing.
    I'm a bit stumped.

So lemme get this straight. It fires up, then you shutdown, barely breath, press the power button and nothing, nada zip, not even a peep?

After reading again, what happened above could also be the trip protection on the PSU kicking in. After removing the power to the PSU and a short wait, it should recover.
When I first read your post, I thought it might be an ESD issue. Not to the point of damage but where a charge may cause a no boot situation. I know I read somewhere recently....wait see page 16 of 111 Section 2-10 http://us-download.msi.com.tw/support/mnu_exe/mbd_mnu/E7025v1.0.zip
    Also.....
Either there is an intermittent connection on the 20 pin connector, a broken solder joint on the mobo connector, a short somewhere on the mobo or the PSU's faulty. What gets me is you tried a different PSU with the same result so that may not be it at all. I was also thinking that there may be a clearance problem with the solder side of the mobo to the mounting plate of the case. Take one or two of your standoffs and see if you can see any protrusions (ie solder joints/pins) that may exceed the standoffs length.
Got to be a short or an intermittent connection somewhere. Or, possibly a combination of all the above. In that case you'd be chasing your tail, kinda like you're doing now? Poor soul
May be a goose chase, but I would check the power switch connector, check the jumperblock solder joints from the solder side. Also check the solder joints on the 20pin mobo connector on the solder side. Then, check the PSU's 20pin connector and make sure the shell connectors are not stretched out or deformed. And finally, try a third PSU if available.
Sorry my message is a bit convoluted, but I almost lost this whole post when my kvm switch decided to to do the pee pee dance, and got caught in an endless loop. Damn Sticky keys!
