MSI Neo2 Plat wont work!

Hey guys, recently bought all new parts for a computer:
MSI Neo2 Platinum Socket 939 Mobo
AMD 3500+ 939 not proccess .013 micron i think?
WD 160GB 8mb SATA HD
Leadtek Gforce 6800GT 256mb AGP8x
Corsair XMS Extreme 1gb (512 x 2)
ok so I put all the things together and try to start the computer. At the first screen where it shows the VGA bios info its all in symbols and in different colors and I cant read anything and when it goes to the MSI Neo2 Platinum Edition Screen I cant see it well either. It then goes onto Verifying DMI Pool Data... and hangs there. All 4 leds are on, for the D bracket thing. Everything is in symbols and I cannot read anything nor enter bios. HELP PLZ!
PS. Turns out I can enter bios but there are black square spots all over the place preventing me from actively reading the bios settings and such.

Sounds like a faulty video card to me.
Try using a spare video card for testing.
But don't test with one that is too old. I believe this mobo only suports video cards that use the 1.5V standard. Usually any AGP 4X or better will do.

  • MSI GTX 650 Wont work on my new pc

I just bought an ASUS Desktop, it has the AMD FX-6300 Six-Coure (3.5ghz) processor. 12 Gb of ram, and it came with
AMD Radeon HD 7470 card. I also bought a Diablotek 600watt power supply to with the MSI GTX 650 I bought for it. I swapped power supplies out and graphics cards. I turned the computer on and fans spin, lights light up and everything but no sound or image shows up on the monitor. So I don't know if it is even booting up or not. I swapped the graphics cards out and left the diablotek power supply in and it works just fine. Could someone help me assess this situation on why my MSI graphics card wont work? I don't want to spend $25 for someone to run diagnostics on it.

And could you further explain the GOP vbios thing?
GOP is a UEFI feature allowing UEFI booting when using Windows8. It requires vga's vbios and board's bios being GOP compliant. Using a vga with a GOP compliant vbios on a board with not GOP compliant UEFI bios results in the machine not posting. Boards without UEFI with just a legacy bios are not affected by this issue and would work with a vga using GOP compliant vbios.

Now it does say on the system requirements intel core series or higher processor or compatible system. Does that mean it wont work with AMD processors?
No, it's just to compare the required speed level. It will work fine with AMD systems as well.

And did you mean to try it in another computer when you said try another vga system?
    That's what I said:

(...) If possible try vga in another system (...).
Try the graphics card in another computer.

  • Msi Neo2 Plat : NV Sata Raid Problems

Hi Guys, Im new here, but seems like a mighty fine forums you have here
I recently brought some Raptors off a mate, there sata and i wish to raid them. Ive spend 4 DAYS trying to install windows on them, but it seemed like everything that could go wrong, was going wrong.
Ok, let me cut to the chase, I think its the NV RAID drivers. Here are 3 facts that lead me to this reason.
1: Both SATA drives work perfect in Windows on my old partiton. They can raid fine and are super fast.
2: I can install Windows on both partitions seperatly fine, so the SATA drivers must be working.
3: When loading the files off the floppy, it runs fine and it recognises the drives as "Nivida set up" or something like that. So the floppy drivers should be ok.
(before you ask, i have set them up correctly in bios and gone into the raid menu and raided them fine)
Now, when windows copies the files and reboots to the second stage, it asks me if i want to install drivers.
If i say Yes it asks me if i want to install SATA and also P ATA drivers. If I do this when it finishes the install, it reboots attempts to boot off the raid array, it goes blank just before the windows logo and restarts.
If i say no to the drivers, it goes through fine, but it loads the windows logo, and then reboots before loading welcome screen.
(This was my expression as i thaught i had fixed it then   +  )
Anyway, Here are my specs if you need them.
    AMD 3500 newcastle core
    MSI K8N NEO2 54g
    2x 512 corsair 4000 sticks
    2x sata Raptor 10,000 36 gb
    480 watt psu
    ati x800xt pe
Thanks for any reply's guys. There all appreciated.
    Fenny
(btw. If anyone can help me get this sorted, I will do ANYTHING for them (with a few exceptions

I had that same problem with my 2 samsung 80g sata drives, only that i could get raid-0 working when connecting them in ports 1 and 2, but that was not good cause i wanted to overclock... and when i connected them in ports 3 and 4, i couldnt get raid-0 working, i got just similar problem than you. I thougt that raid-0 just wont work installing windows on it in ports 3 and 4. But now i have read that it works with some users, maybe i should try it again someday

  • Please Help :) MSI NX8800gt Card Wont work on MS-7255

I have the MS-7255 board and the MSI 512mb NX8800GT card with 700w power supply and 1 gig of ram but the PC wont boot up.
Not even the BIOS screen will display, the fan on the CPU and PCIE card just keep spinning.
When I insert my old radeon x1650 card the pc boots perfectly. I have tried the live update feature but when the tests complete i get a runtime error (empty object) and the update is not done.
    Main steps taken :
Removed old radeon drivers, insert new MSI card, add 700w psu which works fine when radeon card is installed
    Seat Card properly
Insert Additional 6 pin PCIE connector
    Turn on PC
Bios screen doesn't show or any of the usual warning beeps, fan just keeps spinning
Ive never flashed a bios before and I dont have a floppy drive or usb key
I'm sure its down to an out of date motherboard but the live update will not work for me on IE 6 or 7, can you help in any way?
Ive bought a new card and a new psu I cant get it to run

I also connected the additional power supply to the card, but when I start the machine the fans on the CPU and on the Graphics card just keep on spinning and the bios doesnt appear nor do any sounds beep, unlike when I use the old radeon card when you get 1 beep and then the bios....
As best as I can make out, the BIOS and the VGA bios are out of date but I cant use live update

  • MSI to 1109 wont work. deploy issues. what do i do

I have been deploying Adobe Reader 11 and uppdates the easy way. Downloaded AdbeRdr11000_nb_NO.msi from the Adobe FTP server and deployed it with active directory, no issues.
So I have updated this package the "easy way":
    1. Downloaded the MSP from the ftp, and used the command "msiexec /a AdbeRdr11000_nb_NO.msi /p ****.msp
    2. Renamed the msi file and uploaded it to the server and added it in the Active directory as an update.
This worked great included 11.06, after 11.7 I get the message "acroext.exe" cannot be installed because the file cannot be found in the cabinet file "Data1.cab" . This could indicate a network error, or an error reading from the cd-rom or a problem with the package.
I have tried to update from 11.06 to 07,08 and 09 and same issue.
I see there are other ways to download the exe/zip package and extract files/msi and update adoberdr.msi and deploy in another way, but haven't looked much into that, since the way it was working before was easy and doing the job.
    Please help.
It would be much easyer if adobe just could upload .msi's with the updates.@

If the battery was empty then it can take up to 15 minutes of charging before it will respond. If it's been longer than that and it won't switch on then try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds, after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • MSI Clock? Wont work

I wanted to overclock )  my new fx5200 8)  since it has a very good cooling system , so I opened the MSI Clock that came with the driver update (4403xp.zip) from the msi.com.tw homepage, I saw that the utility to overclock has three sections; Core Clock--2D and 3D, Memory Clock. The problem is that every time i adjust the clock in core clock 3D it just resets to the original value without prompting :( , so what is the point of over clocking if it doesnt even works? X( , the 2D and the memory clocks are adjusted right and taken over automatically , I just complain about the fact of not being capable of changing the clock on 3D core because it is the most important value for overclocking , so please tell me how to change this value, when I reset my computer it just resets the 3D core value to 250mhz ;( , and actually when I set it to a high number like 1000mhz it just don’t shows any artifacts with the artifact tester 5, so it seems that the values (the 3d core) are not being changed by the MSI Clock ;(
Post, Data: actually the 3D!Turbo Experience utility is very poor, because the Temperature is not true and neither does the rpm of the fan :O , and it does not provide a good overclocking range .
    Sincerely
    Diego, Deus I MSI

I try using MSI drivers and tools also when I first get cards from them too but I often find that they aren't as good as what I can find out on the web i.e. nVidia drivers and developer tools...
MSI is just now taking steps to provide OCing tools and they're just not seasoned at it yet is my guess...so I'm just trying to give you alternatives in the meantime until they polish their technique.
I have used MSI's OCing tool with my FX5900 VTD128 card that I just got and didn't have any problem like you describe. I adjusted it using the Auto Detect and then hit the Test Setting button and it stuck for me even after I rebooted. Are you sure that you're using it properly?
And it's not Bonzi it's Bonz thank you  :D

  • Overclocking with v1.8 BIOS MSI Neo2 Plat.

Once I enter BIOS I attempt to find my CPU max. I try to up the cpu voltage but im not sure which voltage to change. There are 2 options:
    "Adjust CPU Vid"
which has values of: "startup", 1.550v down to .825v. The BIOS manually set the option to "startup", I guess it changes voltage to be comfortable once computer boots up.
    "CPU Voltage"
I figured this would be the option that changed the voltage but when I saw the options to choose from I only had:
    "by cpu vid"
    "3.3%"
    "5.0%"
    "8.3%"
    "10.0%"
I wasnt sure which voltage to change. So I upped the FSB from 200MHz to 205MHz doing a little bit at a time and changed the "cpu voltage" from "by cpu vid" to "3.3%". The computer rebooted fine so I went back into the BIOS and set the FSB to 210MHz. The computer acted as it wasnt going to post then came up saying I either need to change my overclocked settings or boot into safe mode. So I went to the "Adjust cpu vid" option and increased the voltage from "startup" to 1.425v, rebooted and got the same message. I upped the voltage to 1.450v, got the same message, upped to 1.475v, same message, 1.500v, same message, then I decided well let me change that "cpu voltage" option again. So I kept the 1.500v on went to, "adjust cpu vid" and changed the "cpu voltage" from 3.3% to 5.0% hoping that would do something. It didnt I got the same exact message. I went to amdcompare.com to see what my voltage should be at without overclocking and it said it should be 1.4v. Well when I changed the settings back to normal I checked my CPU-Z and it was giving me 1.373v which is close to around 1.4v so I said ok. I went back into BIOS and kept changing the voltages (thats it) just to see if they went up in CPU-Z and they did. My question now is why is it that my computer wont allow me to go above 210MHz for a FSB? That FSB is nothing...Its not like I started off at 300MHz or anything.. I dont see what the problem is. I cant seem to overclock at all. I was just wondering what the heck is going wrong?
Again just as a reminder my BIOS version is 1.8

Thanks for the guides and tips you've given me. And I will also do my signature here in a little bit once I figure out how. But let me get to what happened yesterday.
Setting HT to 4x worked, I overclocked my FSB to 235MHz at 1.475v + 3.3%. I also had my mem clock set to 100Mhz instead of 200MHz so I could find my cpu max. The computer booted up, so I went back into my BIOS and set my FSB to 240MHz, tried to boot and windows options came up asking me to run windows normally, safe mode, etc.. I chose run windows normally which I think was a mistake. The screen went black so I rebooted. Changed my voltage to 1.5v + 3.3%, computer rebooted and didnt even go to load windows screen, it just went black. I restarted going back into BIOS and kept 1.5v but changed to 5.0% and tried to boot up and the screen still went black before getting to load windows. So I was like hmm... I lowered everything back to as it was originally and to come here and ask if I could go any further, or if there was something keeping me from going any further such as agp/pci bus lock or something like that. But once I changed everything back to normal the computer started to boot up and went you think it would go to the windows loading screen, it didnt. I then went back into my BIOS and changed my HT setting from 5x to 4x(that was it was on before I ever changed any options). But still it wasnt booting properly. I reset my CMOS to see if that would fix things but it didnt... The screen stays black once it attemps to load windows. As of now I CAN enter the BIOS no problem, but windows wont even start to load. Should I go ahead and get the ol' windows xp disk and reformat?

  • K8n neo2 plat wont let me install win 2000 pro

Help! HAve neo2 mb-2 10k rpm 36 gig harddrives. I am trying to set it up as raid 0. I hit f6 to install raid drivers and it tries to install win 2000 but gives me a message of "the file nvraid.sys could not be found." then it says hit control alt del to restart.

install vista from within XP but i'm not sure whether you will succeed since you will have to set your sata2 drive in the bios as the primary drive that contains the OS. beleive me the only way you will get to install the raid drivers for nvraid controller is if you start the setup from within xp

  • Neo2 Plat wont boot for 10+ minutes after failure to boot.

I have had my system fail to boot twice now because I OCed something it did not like... unplugged everything, re-set j-bat and pulled C-Mos battery still nothing.
Leave it unplugged and come back in a half hour it starts right up.
?? What is this all about?
If you guys dont have an explanation for me then I will have to blame my PSU.
At least now I have the D-Bracket installed for when it happens again I can see if any power is on the board at all....as it seemed there was nothing at all.

Sounds to me like the PSU is overloaded and goes into protection mode.  When a PSU is overloaded thats what usually happens.
Of course, if you had a sig... or gave any system details at all... then we might have more of a clue.

  • RMA and still same problems! (Neo2 Plat)

I was having the system shut down over night problem where nothing woudl turn on, no fans on anything, not even the powersupply.  So I tested my Powersupply on a friends computer and it was dead and I also tried numerous power supplies on my motherboard and it was dead alos.  So I had the power supply and motherboard  RMA'd and got it put back together today and I am still having the same problems!!!!@ !
I hooked up the CPU, ram, and video cards just to see if it would start up; nope, I hear a crackling noise coming from the brand new powersupply, but the fans start spinning on the powersupply but nothing else.  What else could be wrong, could my CPU be dead???  I only hear the crackling noise when I have the 12V connector plugged into the motherboard and this is where the CPU gets power from correct?  Could I be in need of a new processor?  I tried my ram video in other systems with no issues so its seems the cpu is the only thing left......@#$%^

    Lite-On CD-RW

I had a similar issue.  Shut it down over night.  Next morning I removed the HSF to install AS5.  When I put it back together, It wouldn't boot.  The D-bracket at 4 red LED's, which means "CPU damaged or not installed properly".
So I sent my CPU to AMD for testing, and It wouldn't post for them either so they sent me a new one.  RMA'd the MB also.  Got the "new" MB/CPU back together and have had no problems since.
What does teh D-bracket hang on?

  • MSI K8N Neo2 Plat. + Audigy2 woes

    Hi.
I'm getting the dreaded Machine Check Exception(0000009c) on my rig and it seems no amount of tinkering can get this combo to play nicely, and as I know there are quite a few more of you with the same problem out there(and a lot who DON'T have this problem) I thought it could be interesting to find out a bit more about this.
    My box:
    A64 3500+(newcastle)
    MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum
2x512Mb (Kingston HyperX PC3000...old stuff from my KT333-mobo)
    Audigy 2 (SB0240)
    HIS 9800Pro Ice-Q
+other stuff that  doesn't affect the problem
    Running WindowsXP SP2
I've tried diff bioses (1.2,1.3,1.4b1), I've tried tweaking the pci-latency of the audigy(raising from 32 in steps of 8 to 96) with powerstrip. Tried moving the card to all available pci-slots(the audigy is the ONLY pci-card in my rig, its just the audigy and my 9800 in its agp-slot).
Tried all different driver revs for the audigy, from the one on the included cd up to the latest. Tried changing that pci-clock setting in the bios(hidden setting), to no avail.
I've run memtest86+,windows memory diagnostics and prime95 as well as a few other diagnostic tools from the UBCD for hours on end without any problems whatsoever.(at first I was inclined to believe that the psu might have something to do with this, but I don't believe that anymore, the problem seems to happen to people no matter WHAT psu they use.)
    Facts:
    1. With the audigy2 in place my machine WILL freeze with the 0000009c-error sooner or later(might take hours, might happen in 5 minutes). It does however seem to be related to using the soundcard(just sitting in windows without using the soundcard for ANY sounds keeps the box alive a lot longer than playing BF1942 and using teamspeak)
    2. When I remove the Audigy2 from my system and use the on-board sound the lock-ups stop, no more machine check exceptions.(this isn't a solution, its a workaround)
    3. Some people have the same problem while other people seem to be able to use audigys in their machines.
My guess is that it might be related to what model/version of audigy one has, that earlier audigy/audigy2-cards wont work properly...
So, those of you that have the problem, what model/ver of audigy/audigy2 do you have?
    Mine is a SB0240.(random 0000009C-errors)

    Same card here Audigy2 (SB0240).
I don't remember the error message I got but it was something about a conflict with the nVidia RAID controller. It was right after updating the Creative drivers so I immediatly removed ALL Creative startup programs and services with msconfig. No more problems. It runs great. There is the occassional rare "burp" through the speakers but its no problem.
In "msconfig" uncheck the following under the "Startup" tab.
    CTCMSgo
    CTDVDDet
    CTHelper
    CTsysVol
    SBDrvDet
regsvr32 (no problem so far with unchecking this one. I noticed there's a copy of it in one of the Creative folders. regsvr32.exe is a command line program used to register and unregister object linking and embedding (OLE) controls such as dynamic-link library (DLL) or ActiveX Controls (OCX) files that are self-registerable. This may be necessary to troubleshoot some issues with Windows, Microsoft Internet Explorer, or other programs.
Attention the same filename is used by some spyware programs.)
In fact the only startups I've left running in msconfig are...
    nvraidservice
    NvCpl
    zlclient  (ZoneAlarm)
Next click the "Services" tab in msconfig - check "Hide All Microsoft Services" and uncheck "Creative Service for CD-Rom access".
I guess it should also be added that a couple of days ago my system became extremely sluggish and had difficulty starting up. There were a couple of BSOD's. Pressing on the back of the case near the PCI slots caused the lights to flicker. Uh-Oh! Apparently the Audigy2 card was a little loose in its slot. Reseating the card seems to have solved that problem.

  • K8N Neo2 Plat - computer wont boot. RMA?

as the title suggests, I have a K8N Neo2 Plat with an amd athlon 64 3800+ and 2x512mb OCZ PC3700EB Platinum ram.  Everything has worked great for the past year. However this weekend when I came home from school my pc wouldn't boot up. I plugged in all the cables, turned on the PSU, and hit the power button and the fans spun for about half a second then nothing. I tried again several times and the fans didn't even spin.  I tried several plugs in the house, still nothing.  Thinking it was the PSU (Antec NeoPower480) I bought a new one today and tried that.  Still nothing.  I even tried shorting the power switch on the case in case it's stopped working. still nothing.  I'm quite knowledgeable about computers so it's not a silly newbie mistake.  A friend of mine who does computer repairs thinks it's the motherboard, and I agree.
I was going to try RMAing it - do you think I should, and is the process relatively easy/painless?  (FYI I'm Canadian)

Strip it down to a basic setup, CPU, 1 stick of ram (try different ram) and graphic card. This is all you need to boot and get into BIO.
If you can get into BIO then add one device at a time until you find the faulty piece, if you are not able to get it to boot then pull the graphic card and try to boot, you should get some beeps, do the same with the ram. If you don't get any beeps then it is a good chance it is your MB.

  • MSI P67A-GD65 (B3) Power and Reset button wont work.

Right..i just bought this mobo.. Build the PC..Everything works fine...since i can open the pc from the button on the mobo..thing is:
The leds and HDD light work perfectly fine..
    Power On/Off wont work
    Reset wont work.
    The cables are connected properly
Power SW:Orange (Positive) at 6.. Negative at 8...
Reset SW:Blue (Positive) at 7.. Negative at 5.
Power LED and HDD Led work fine..
They just wont work.. Should i RMA the card or is it something else i am missing?
Obviously i checked the buttons themselves..removed the front panel..nothing seems weird..
The buttons worked perfectly fine ~1 hour before i went to get the new stuff ;p

Does the reset button work?  Have you tried using a screwdriver to short the pins?  It may be the case and not the MOBO.  Also, try reversing the connectors.
First image is of the reset switch on the MOBO.
The second image is of the pin layout.

  • Gainward Geforce 6800 Not working with Neo2 plat

Hey, im starting to get really agravated. do any of you have the some problem? When i boot my computer with the New card (6800) it does a continuous beep and i get no vega signal . Computer runs fine with my older Gefore 4 ti 4600. Any1 have similar setup ?
    AMD Athlon 64 3500+
    Neo2 Plat
psu Asipre 500w (yes i read some other post it has 34amps on 12v rail)
    WD Sata 10k Raptor 36gig
    Gainward Gefore 6800 128meg
1 gig ram Corsair value select (512x2)

I had that problem occur with me before with my older 9800 pro.  Check the molex connector on the video card.  Also check the y-power connector that powerst the video card to the psu... chances are theres a short somewhere.  When I disconnected the Y-power connector from the video card, it was actually burned.  When you get the error, it usually means that there is little or no power feeding your video card.  At least in my situation that was the case.

  • Scared to get a Neo2 Plat with all the problems here!

I plan on getting a Neo2 Plat, but scared from all these problems that people are asking about...I dont want problems :(

kweckstrom I'm still a little confused you claim to have been building computers since computers were practically invented but you coulden't figure out how to get a new 939 board up and running reliably?? It's really not that hard.. not like the P90 (the pentium that didn't run)
    1 you check for compatability,
    2 you buy your parts,
    3 you put it together..
    4 it runs.
First of all, you should read an entire post before replying. You must not have read it, because I obviously DID figure it out.
If you look at the compatibility list for the MSI board, it's abysmal. They test VERY few modules, and they haven't tested anything newer. Newer modules (like the newer Corsair XL's or Micron Ballistix) remain untested, and aren't likely to BE tested "officially". The Corsair 3200LLPT's worked fine in my P4 rig. They worked fine on the Gigabyte 939 NF3 board. One can reasonably expect that they would have worked fine on the MSI, after all it's the same chipset.
But no, they didn't.  Not even after upgrading my power supply. Yet if I slap all this stuff together on the gigabyte board, all was fine and dandy, even on a PS that only delivered 18A on +12v.
When I tried out the ballistix, I ran into even worse problems, even after ignoring SPD and upping voltage to it's rated 2.8v. But after upgrading my Power Supply, those problems went away and the system is now rock solid and stable.
I'm an older guy with a wife and 2 kids, not to mention a full-time career as a network engineer. I don't have tons of nights and weekends to work through nagging compatibility or stability issues. That's why I say I wouldn't put myself through that mess again.
    Quote
If your buying enthousiast grade parts expect to do a little research first because it's a fact there are more untested parts and there will be some incompatabilities but it's absolutely no different than any intel platform of the same age..
Maybe you should have had someone with a little more time and skill build a system for you??
Then you may have been able to aviod these PEBCAK errors lol
Taking the high road, I see
You should actually read my post next time. I solved the problem long ago. I'm simply saying that this platform is an annoying one because there are tons of incompatibilities that lead to stability issues. That's fact, and you aren't much of an engineer if you dispute it.
What you say about intel systems of the same age is completely untrue. You'd have a hard time finding an intel board that's incompatible with DDR2 by any specific vendor. You'd also have a hard time finding any intel boards that have quirks with PCI Express cards. You'll also have a hard time finding any Power Supply compatibilities with LGA775, because a specific type of power supply is required (dual-rail with PCI-E headers). Sorry, you're wrong here.
On the Athlon64-939, out of the gate you'll have problems with certain hardware.
Take the Geforce 6800's.... The 6800's don't require 2D and 3D clock speeds to be identical on a P4 system. The bios by default doesn't normalize clock speeds for 2d and 3d, because a 425mhz 2D core value uses power needlessly and doesn't make much sense. But if you're on the Nforce3 platform, you're FORCED to set them identically or your 3d games will stutter and eventually freeze.
There's people with issues on Nforce3 using Fast Writes. Some people have to disable them. You simply don't need to do this on intel.
There's people with issues using Audigy cards (the original Audigy 1). They cause BSOD's. This doesn't happen on Intel systems. They work fine there. (Audigy 2 is unaffected).
If someone's doing research into problems regarding the Athlon64 platform, i'm not going to blow sunshine up everyone's butt. I'm going to tell it like it is. I'm not married to any specific vendor, and i'm not someone who's going to insult someone's system building or research skills because he ran into problems with his latest build.
These problems are VERY real, and if you read this board it's LOADED with people who are having issues with stability. You shouldn't be quick to blame their research or skill with a screwdriver.
