MSI NEO2 PLATINUM Shut down

OK has anyone had this happen to the when I overclock my cpu to say 3gig and try to push 1.85volts through it my mobo and everything just shuts down the only thing that remains powered is the power led on my case??? Very odd I was thinking it could be my antec true power 550W psu but it does supply 24amps on the 12v rail but then again even though my cpu is prometeia cooled the bios still reads the temps wrong now does the msi have a cpu protection built in as in a setting in the bios because I couldnt find it ??
Any answers would be great
Cheers

No the system doesnt start back up it just black screens and powers off all except the on led when I do oc some times it will restart in safe mode and I know this cpu does over 3gig as it has in another machine at 1.85v thats why I was asking about a motherboard or cpu protection shut down thingy ??? Oh and yes my agp/pci is always locked at 66

  • MSI NEO2 Platinum, problem with mouse Genius PS2 optical

    Hello,
I have a MSI NEO2 Platinum motherboard with a mouse Genius optical PS2. When the S.O. init the mouse is not detected, I unplug and plug again the PS2 port and the mouse work perfectly ! ... The mouse is working perfectly, I test it in another PC, the problem is the motherboard !
The same situation is on Windows XP Professional and Linux Ubuntu 5.10.
Please help me, thanks for your attention !
    Raúl.

    Raúl,
The PS2 slot is NOT a hot plug! If you remove and reinstall it while there is power to the mobo you stand a very good chance of destroying the PS2 Slot.
    Take Care,
    Richard

  • MSI Neo2 Platinum (Winchester3200) - strange instability issue in Windows

    My specs:
    Winchester 3200 CPU
    MSI Neo2 Platinum 1.4 bios
    2 x 512 Kingston PC4000 3-3-3-8-1
    Gainward 5900Xt GS
Seagate 160Gb SATA on SATA port 3
The problem seems quite odd to me, so I decided to post here. Generally, the PC is stable, passes more than an hour of Prime95, 3d marks run fine etc.. but in Windows (XP Sp1) I'm getting this annoying issue: when I let the system run idle for a while, with none or some windows open but no programs active, my computer literally freezes. I can move the mouse, but i can't open any windows or click any buttons. Still, the keyboard is responding so I hit ALT + CTRL + DEL and get the Windows Security window. There I click on the Task Manager and all i get is an empty desktop, with the wallpaper but no icons or any activity whatsoever.
    Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Nope.. And I hardly believe it's a software issue. Will try a fresh install of XP today, nut the reason of such strange behaviour escapes me :] Cmon people, any ideas ?
If you problem isn't related to software, then the only other thing that comes to mind is that overclocking is the culprit.  I'm not overclocking anything (except my 3d card, and that only slightly) and have no such problems with my K8N Neo2.  You describe a strange problem, certainly, and in my own experience such behaviors--system runs great in some normal situtations but in others it doesn't--have always been related to overclocking of some kind.  If you aren't overclocking anything then it's probably software induced.  Good luck!

thanks for your help, but it´s still doing it, the cables are all well conected, right now don´t know what I´m gone do, may be try with rma
I'm sorry, I wasn't clear.  Your mobo manual will have at least two different LED connections.  Only one is correct for your case. To make matters worse, it's possible that your mobo LED pins and your case LED connectors aren't color coated.  The mobo I have (Neo 4 Plat) was like that.  My Power LED switch on my case was different that what the book showed.  If you have it plugged into the green area on the mobo then try the black area for the Power LED.  Now if that doesn't work then it's something else. Remember after you plug it into the black area, remember to reset your CMOS as before.
If that doesn't work, did your board come with a D-bracket?  The little bracket with LED lights on it used to diagnostic utility.

  • MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum slows down

    Hi,
I have a little problem with my new K8N Neo2 Platinum. I installed Windows XP and the newest nForce drivers but if I copy files over LAN (tested both LAN-Ports) or install big applications my music played with winamp slows down. It's played with half speed. In addition to that my mouse pointer is very slow. After the setup or copying files everything is how it should be again. How can I solve this problem?
    My system:
    AMD Athlon64 3500+ (Winchester)
MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum-54G (tried different bios releases)
    1024MB Corsair XMS Twinx DDR500
    ATi Radeon 9800 Pro
    2 80GB Maxtor S-ATA (DMA Mode enabled)
Creative Labs SoundBlaster Live! Player 5.1
    MorLipf

    Hello,
I copy files to my bro sometimes, 5Gb - all the steam GCF files for CS/HL/CSS/HL2.
    My network usage is 80%-92%
My CPU usage is always under 15%.
It is worse when using 512Mb but as you have 1Gb it shouldn't be bad.
Check in the device manager, your cd drives should be set to DMA mode.

  • MSI neo2 platinum problem, forced to reset BIOS everytime I turn on the PSU

I just got my neo2 platinum mobo. Everytime I switch it ON all the led's at the back (diagnostic) turn red/orange and never turn green.
I have to reset the bios everytime to get it to post successfully. (bios is the original bios, no flashes done)
    Processor: 3000+ (939)
Anyone else have this problem? what causes it?
[update] the bios version is 1.3 which is the latest on the msi website
    System Specs..
    AMD Athlon 64 3000+ 90nm (socket 939)
    MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum
    1 GB Kingston HyperX DDR 400 CS2
    SBlive
    Nvidia GeForce4 Ti4200 128MB MEM
    Logitech MX510
1x80GB WD HDD with 8MB cache
1x120GB WD HDD with 8MB cache
    Lite-On 48x CD-RW
    NEC 16X DVD RW Drive
RAIDMAX Black Aluminum Gaming Case with 6 case fans and 420W PSU

I think the power supply may be the problem
Once you reset the bios you don't need the amps to spin up the drives, as they are already spinning, saving you about 3 amps I bet. If the newer bios doesn't help, try unplugging half those case fans, the non boot drive, and take the cd's out of you optical drives so they dont spin up, then try cold booting your box a couple times. If it works you know you need a new power supply.
If it doesn't perhaps you've got a grounding problem? Are you positive that nothing metal is touching your motherboard where it shouldn't? If that isn't it, Id  assume the cmos never really clears, and then take the battery out of the motherboard for a good hour while the power supply is unplugged, then give it another shot. I've seen a bunch of DFI boards do weird stuff like that before, the exact same thing actually. Nvidia has a few odd issues with the nforce chipsets and the cmos.
Oh, since you asked, 3000+ is 1.8 ghz. It will probably run at 2.4ghz easy (1.4 volts), thats a 90nm chip

  • MSI Laptop randomly shutting down during gaming.

I have an MSI Gt683DX that was purchased 3 years ago. Lately it's been shutting down and overheating while gaming for 10-15 minutes. HWmoniter shows that the CPU is getting from 85C-100C when under heavyload. I did clean out all the dust from my fans and have been using my laptop on a flat, clean surface and yet the issue still persists. I love this laptop and have never had an issue with it before now. Any advice would be very helpful. Thanks!!

What does repasting mean? Please be more specific. I have the same issue, and is desperate for solutions.
Open the bottom door and take the thermal module out of the case, wipe the thermal grease out and repaste a new one. There are many videos on Internet about how to repaste the thermal grease. Google it!

  • MSI neo2 Platinum Instability

I just got my whole new computer setup within the last few days.  The problem I have come to now is that my system pretty much randomly reboots itself every so often( like 1-5 hours).  I've had this happen both while the system is under load being burning a dvd and also when i'm just surfin the net.  One of the first things I did was to flash the bios to version 1.4 before i installed the os.  I also read a guide that I saw someone post on here about the settings for the neo2 motherboard and adjusted what was needed accordingly and checked that my bios is set about the same for stability.  At first I thought it was just my video card screwing it up as when I put the system together it was with a very old card but then I got the new one and the same thing keeps happening.  Then I thought it may be that my windows installation was corrupt or just a bad one so i formatted my drive and redid the installation, but to no avail, I still got the same random reboots.  The temperature readouts in the bios are 37 for the cpu and 30 for the case so i don't think its overheating or anything.  I am wondering if anyone has experienced similar problems or knows of this problem and can lend a suggestion to what the problem is.
    My setup is as follows:
    MSI K8N neo2 Platinum
    AMD 3500 90nm
    1 gig OCZ pc3200 platinum rev. 2
    ATI All-In-Wonder 9800

turn of auto matic reboots so you can see the bsod

    Memtest86
I'm not sure how to turn off automatic reboots.  I only see the blue screen for literally a split second just before it reboots.
I'm using WinXP btw and have all updates installed incause that matters. Anyway everytime it restarted in the first install it used to blame the video driver but with this new second install of windows i have a different video card and different drivers so it doesn't say "device driver wrong for video card(or something similar) anymore.  Now it says pretty much the same thing but doesn't limit it to the video card, it just says device drivers are wrong or something like that.

  • MSI P55-CD53 Shut down and failing to POST

    Hi,
I have (had) a build using a P55-CD53 mother board and an i7-860 and two 2gb sticks of RAM. Everything has been working fine for the last 8 months then today while playing flight simulator the computer just shut down and rebooted.
Now it won't POST at all or show anything on the monitor
All fans running, never hung or rebooted that would suggest a heating issue. This has me completely confused and I am not sure where to start.
I tried removing the ram and re installing one stick at a time.
    I've never done any overclocking
and not sure it is any help but i am only seeing one cpu phase LED whereas in the manual it says i should be seeing 2, 3 or 4 lights.
Any help would be really appreciated.

I'm thinking because it happened during a game it could easily be the power supply that has failed, since the computer will draw most power during this time. If this is the case, you really need to test another power supply to properly diagnose this.
It could easily otherwise be a faulty motherboard or CPU. Testing another CPU in the motherboard (or your CPU in someone elses motherboard) would give an indication of whether the CPU is at fault. If still no life then it's looking more likely the motherboard is dead.
I see what you mean about the phase LEDs. I'm not sure what it means to have just 1 lit up, because as you say, the manual shows 2, 3 or 4 LEDs but not just 1. Perhaps MSI can answer that for you: >>How to contact MSI<<.
Do you have a speaker connected to hear the beep codes? It may help to know if it beeps at all.

  • MSI P67A-C45 - Shutting down during OS installation

I'll take a wild swing into cyber-space, hoping that someone out there have experienced this problem and found a solution.
I've had a look around on these forums, trying to find a topic with the same problem as I've experienced, but couldn't find any.
A friend of mine just bought the MSI P67A-C45 and it booted just fine. The problem occurs when trying to install Windows 7 Home premium 64bit version. It goes through the normal steps, re-booting once during the installation. But when trying to finalize the installation, the motherboard simply shuts down, and boots back up ~4-5 seconds later.
I've tried booting with minimal components; Motherboard, GPU, SSD & DVD-ROM. I've also tried installing it on 2 other disks, 1 10k raptor and a normal 7200, but with the same result.
Has anyone experienced this problem before? Or does anyone have any idea what could be causing it to shut down like this?
Any ideas are welcome and appreciated.

Several members of this forum, myself included, have done our own tests and concluded that AHCI is of no benefit to SSD drives.
That makes total sense because the only real benefit of AHCI for single drives is native command queuing which allows physical drive systems to sort the command queue in the way that best reduces head movement and revolutions (since data is placed all over the platters).  With an SSD, every memory location can be read at exactly the same speed so native command queuing would actually decrease performance by the few microseconds it takes to perform the useless command queue sorting operation.

  • Msi gx 740 shutting down unexpectedly

    Hello!
Let me start by saying I'm new to the forum and I'll try my best to be as clear as possible even though im not an expert at computers at all. And I imagine you all thinking there is alot of Posts about this exact problem. I have found some of them, I have read all of them, I literally have spent hours trying to figure out how I should solve my problem. But it all has failed due to either, me not understanding, or outdated links and downloads.
So PLEASE bear with me and try to help by explaining as simple as possible.
I've had my laptop for about 6 months now. And I bought it second hand and it was about 2 monhts old then, so about 8 months or something. it was bought for one reason, gaming. And it has been turned on most of the time, with an occasional break when i sleep due to the battery running out while its beside my bed. Anyways, ive experienced very few problems with it, or actually nothing particular at all. Its always been rather warm, but nothing special, and ive always kept it on top of a, plastic box, which been used for storing mushrooms, may sound amusing but turn it upside down and the computer is kept about 1 decimeter away from legs and everything. making the fan able to blow away all possible heat the computer fan can.
So except from one problem which was about 1 month ago, which was when it crashed in a "blue screen of death", cant recall what it said. But on my old fried toshiba it said "dumping physical memory" and i assumed it was the same.
But that never happened again and i havent had any problems untill recently. The computer decides to quietly shut down, without any warning, it just goes black and shuts down like the end of the usual "shut down process" when i actually tell it to shut down by pressing the shut down button in the start menu.
It started when i was playing a game called Magicka. It doesnt require a strong computer and i thought it would be ridiculous if that game would make the computer overheat or something, since ive played games with much more sophisticated graphics like  Starcraft 2 etc. always on the highest graphic settings. Something i did notice though is that it would crash at more or less the same place in the game. Even though i had advanced to that part by playing it alot it just seemed like it couldnt handle that part.
And i thought it maybe is an error in the game. and now im asking, is that even possible? that the game make the computer crash like that? Or maybe it overheats? but that seems weird since it wasnt hotter then usual.
Anyways, i thought i just would stop playing the game. And so i did and the problem dissapeared.
    Until recently.
Now it was when i played a game with even less sophisticated graphics which i ALWAYS has extremely high fps on. Also ive been playing this game since i got the computer 6 months ago.
I also has used the CTRL + ALT + DEL  to check how my CPU is doing and the Memory as well, the CPU is always below 40% and the memory at 50% at its highest.
So I cant give more detail then that about my problem.
Ive browsed this forum and many others and Ive read about some sort of update of the video card, ati 5870 but i dont know if thats the problem, or if its something else. And even if i would know the problem, i have no idea how to fix it.
Please help and thousand thanks in advance.
    Amos

I have the same problem right now on gx740.
After the crash I also have to wait about 10 minutes before I can start the computer again. Otherwhise it will crash again during the boot up.
This makes me beleve it has something to do with the temperature.
Can anyone please tell me how I should proceed to find the source of the error.
I am not that good with computers.
Is there maybee a error log after system crash or something.
DOes anyone know how I can see if the fans and the temperature are ok.
    I hope you can help

  • MSI KT6 Delta shutting down

    Hi All,
When summer comes My PC tends to shut down under load, I first put this down to the heat not having adequate cooling for the CPU,I have since sorted out the cooling and the PC is still shutting down under load.
The temps are when under load
    Sys 42
    CPU 49
    GPU 62
    Normal Temps
    Sys 32
    CPU 39
    GPU 54
I seem to be able to put the PC running under full load without it crashing when I change the FSB from 166 to 133mhz.
I am now beginning to think it might be the power supply But my PC doesn’t shutdown when the weather cools down any ideas as to what my problem might be will be appreciated.
    Spasm

Ok I’ve run Prim95 for 1 hour, no problems the temps are
    CPU 55
    Sys 45
    GPU 55
I have also found that if I shut6 down the side panel intake fan I gain 5c system temp so this fan needs to be working all the time.
My thoughts are still with the rower supply what I think will happen as soon as the Radeon Pro 9800 starts to draw more power the PSU will ether heat up and cut out or it will not be able to supply enough power to keep the PC running.
PS. I’m using MBM for CPU and system temps and atitool for GPU temps.
Right after I tested the graphics card with
    http://www.daionet.gr.jp/~masa/rthdribl/
the PC ran for about 2 minutes and it prodicably shut down with these temps,
    CPU 54c
    Sys 44
    GPU 57.8

  • MSI Neo2 Platinum should beep if the cpu is dead?

I have a Neo2 Platinum and a 3500+. When I try to start the computer the fan starts to spin but the monitor is black. The computer doesnt make any beeping sound. I know its either the CPU or the motherboard that is broken. Should the motherboard make any sound if the CPU is dead?
My D-bracket says "Early Chipset Initialization" and "Bios Sign On" (shows info about logo, cpu brand name etc..)
Depends on how I start up the computer (psu power switch or button)
The problem started a few weeks ago. The computer made lots of reboots and now I cant even access bios. Ive replaced all other components (ram, psu, HDD) but nothing happens. So is there any way to find out if its the motherboard or the cpu?

Quote from: bennyfax on 25-October-06, 07:59:57
Ok thanks for trying to help me but its not the HDD's. Its the motherboard or the cpu. I just dont know which one.
your CPU is not dead for sure.
try barabone setup,(leave only basic parts which is necessary to boot) and Clear CMOS Guide(remove power cord from PSU before proceed).
test with one stick of memory only.
