MSI neo4 plat(non sli) sound problem.... and other problem...

hi
(sorry for my poor english)
FIRST ISSUE
ok here is the deal, i got no sound when using the rear panel of the mother board... but when i use the front panel of my case there no problem and i get sound....
after reading a lot on sound problem i try first to change my bios so i check the 1.8 and the 1.6 but still no result... , i also try to use the nvidia sound drive instead of the raitek one.... but still nothing ... in the system all appeare to be ok, windows dont detect any conflict on hardware on so one... even the nvidia mixer equaliser move... but no output...
i also read a litle about the compatibylity issue betwen the mobo and the atx2 PSU standard with the using of the 5v pin...,but as far i read it seem that this is only on the sli version...do this issue also concernt the non sli version ?can this explain my problem ?
SECOND
i got from time to time a bleu screem with the message DRIVER IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL.... can someone now what can cause this ?
thank

Hi!
I am also facing this problem with my K8N NEO4 Platinum Ultra.
I have even tested my PC with a PSU which is having -5v in it's rating.
I have also requested a help from MSI Support.
Their & My reply is as follows.
But still my problem could not be solved.  My sound card as per the OS works fine and produces output.  But no audible output for humans to hear.
This is the case with both front and rear panels.
I have even sent the MB for RMA but here in India, people are fools.  Even from RMA the board was shipped back in the same faulty condition.  What to say?  Whom to curse?  Only money and 20days were spent waiting for repair and in wain.
If any body can help it will be very nice.
Here is my reply to MSI:
My K8n Neo4 Platinum Ultra - earlier was giving good quality sound output. Later after 15 days of using this board, it does not give any audible sound at all. But through headphone socket of cd player I am able to receive good quality sound.
And also while using CD Player to play audio tracks, the output is very intermitent and feeble with lots of cracking noise and poor quality audio is heard.
Through Windows Media Player no sound is heard at all.
I reinstalled win2000/Win2000Server/Win2003 XP Server. In all the platform sound problem exists. Any solutions?
My PSU has 20amps in +12V rail and has no -5v. 24 pin adaptor with 400W.
SATA HDD 80GB WD. 256*2=512mb DDR 400 Ram.
CPU AMD 3000+ Winchester core.
Thanks in advance.
REPLY FROM MSI:
Dear SoftWheels:
Thank you for contacting MSI Technical Support.
With regard to yoru concern, we would like to know before the onboard sound function abnormally, if you have made any adjustment to your system hardware or software?
And at this time would you please try to un-install the sound driver in the Add or Remove Program, then install the ALC Series AC'97 Audio Drivers refer to the link below, after this please first check if in Device Manager there is any yellow mark.
http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/driver/dvr/spt_dvr_detail.php?UID=637&kind=1.
AGAIN MY RESPONSE TO MSI:
Dear Sir,
Thanks for your reply. But reply does not solve my problem. I have tried all that you said in your reply.
I have done nothing to hardware. No electrical problems or burning.
Due to no sound, I have even totally zero filled my SATA hard disk, updated bios, re-installed

I was browsing some forums last night, and suddenly heard a loud *CRACK* from my computer.   ???
The computer froze, but did not turn off.
Attempted a hard boot, and nothing not even a POST responds.
Popped open the content's, to see what might have happened.
And under the edge of my video card I notice that the SLI Switch Card has come loose.  The little black plastic thing that was supposed to keep it in place had popped out.  I attempted to place it back in to see if this would correct the problem (afraid it will not), but it will not stay securly lodged into place.
Any suggestion's on how to get the SLI Swicth Card Black Pin thing to work, or a work around to it, in order to test the system and see what, if anything else might have blown before I go for an RMA?
Thank you for any help or suggestions.

With regards to the small black pin that holds the SLI card in place, I have to admit that its a very poor design from MSI. I can think of two ways to fix it, and both would require you to strip the mobo down and remove it from the case.
1: would be to build up the "small ball" part of the pin with a blob of glue,(epoxy) so that it cant pop thru the small hole in the mobo.
2: Same idea as the first but using a hot knife or a soldering iron tip to flatten out the "small ball" part of the pin. (BE VERY careful not to over do it).
Best option tho would be to RMA the board.
Its the loud crack that you heard that worries me tho. Was it the physical sound of the  SLI bridge card coming out or was it more of an electrical type crack that you heard?
Best thing to do would be to strip back to bare basics and try to go on from there, ie one video card, one memory stick and one H/Drive, Reset the BIOS, and set BIOS to boot from cd and see what happens.
As for getting a new pin from them, I would drop them an email, depending on where you live they might be able to post one to you.

  • Help : MSI Neo4 Platinum (non-SLi)

    Hi,
I just switch from a long time Asus Intel user to MSI AMD based rig (I am more into video editing & encoding than gaming). I bought a MSI Neo4 Platinum with AMD 3200+ (Venice) and from my old system, I have the Corsair TwinX XMS PC4000 ram and a RAID 0 setup with 2 X WD 74GB Raptor.
Can anyone help me on :
    1) which slot should I installed my ram in order to run Dual Channel
    2) How do I perform moderate overclocking with this MSI Neo4
    3) which will be recommended HSF for moderate overclocking
    4) Will I experience the 219 BUG when overclocking

    hgled8888,
They are all good heatsinks, I do not think you will go wrong with any of them.
As for the BIOS, the difference is Award vs Phoenix. I use mobos from Abit, ASUS, and MSI, you get used to them, if you can get though one BIOS, you will have little trouble getting used to the other.
As for moving over from "The Dark Side of the Force" over to AMD, welcome to the other side, you will love it and never look back.

  • Crashes, sound loss, and other problems

    Hello,
I have been having some serious problems over the past several months. In the past it was fairly manageable, but recently things have been getting worse.
I have a 12-inch PowerBook G4, I bought it at the McGill bookstore in October 2004. The first problem was the apparently random crashes that Mac OS X (v.10.4.8) would experience from time to time. It was fairly infrequent at first so it didn't bother me too much (and I thought it was just some sort of glitch). But it persisted and came to be expected.
What would happen is that my screen would darken and center box would appear telling me, "You need to restart your computer. Hold down the Power button for several seconds or press the Restart button." (it would display this message in English, French, German, and Japanese for my convenience). After I restart the computer I get the message, "The computer was restarted after Mac OS X quit unexpectedly". At first it seemed to be linked to time; after a while it would just crash, sometimes after an hour or so, sometimes after as little as five minutes. (I fear as I write this that I will have to start over). More recently I've come to associate the crashes with movement of the computer; perhaps the battery (which is pretty much dead after so much use) is affecting the performance, I don't know.
The next problem, which coincided with the crashes, was my clock being reset. I assumed this was directly associated with the spontaneous shutdown of the computer, yet though the crashes continued, the clock was not always reset (just about a third of the time). This was a pretty frustrating inconvenience given the frequency of the crashes at the beginning.
The major problem that prompted me to take action was the lose of sound. One day, about a month ago now, my sound suddenly stopped working. At first I thought it was a hardware problem, but then I noticed the sound was still working with some things and just not others. For example, the sound increase/decrease indicator (the 'pop' sound when turning up or down the sound) stopped working, yet the startup sound still worked. I've found that Realplayer, MPlayer X 2, and Windows Media Player work fine but iTunes, VLC, and Quicktime don't. Most of the applications simply don't make sound but when I try to video in VLC I get the following error: "auhal: we cannot find our HAL component" or "auhal: audio-device var does not exist. device probe failed."
Other minor errors I have come across include inability to detect the Airport card (remedied upon restarting the computer) and occasional seizing up of the keyboard (the letter keys, exclusively, were unresponsive for sometime before working again suddenly without need of restart).
I've run diagnostic tools such as Disk Utility and the 'fsck' command in single-user mode, but nothing has been detected. It consistently comes up saying that everything is alright.
I have backed-up all important files and programs (with the exception of my Firefox bookmarks, do you know how I can save those?) and am prepared to do whatever it takes to bring my computer back to working order. I need my computer for schoolwork and assignments so if I can fix it myself in anyway... I would prefer to avoid lengthly repairs if possible.
Please let me know what my options are, and/or possible things I can do to repair these problems. This whole affair is, unsurprisingly, driving me crazy.
One last thing, upon launching Microsoft Word, I get the following pop-up:
    Application Launch Failure
The application "Word" could not be launched because of a shared library error: "3<Microsoft Word><Microsoft Word><MicrosoftLSLibZ>"
I do not know whether this is linked to my other problems or not. This too, is something that has recently come up and is significantly affecting my work (I have had to switch to writing my essays on TextEdit).
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Eric Oosenbrug
    PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

try shutting down, remove the battery, carefully pull out AirPort card and reinstall it.
maybe run hardware test included with CD kit

  • Using the "silicon controller" on the MSI NEO4 PLAT SLI, quick question!

I have a stable OC w/ my FX55 (261x11) 2.87GHz, but now I want to use the Silicon Controller, and not just my NVIDIA controller. Does the MSI NEO4 PLAT SLI "LOCK" the silicon controller, so since my FSB is OC'ed, I dont want any problems.... By not using all 4 ports on the NVIDIA controller, will this maybe "relax" the nvidia controller, and not let it work so hard, or does it not matter. (overall speed wise)

All of the PCI-E devices are locked, so that includes the SiI3132 controller and the Marvell Gigabit NIC.    One note, it's best to use the SiI3132 "last".    AnandTech did a benchmark of the two controllers, and the onboard nVIDIA controller was faster, although the 3132 PCI-E controller was much faster than the competitions use of PCI based SiI3112 controllers.   If you've already used your nVIDIA controller for 4 SATA or SATA II devices, then by all means use the SiI3132 without overclocking fear.

  • Athlon64 3200+ Venice on Neo4 Plat (no SLI) showing +10MHz but no OC

    Hi all- I've a:
    Athlon64 3200+ Venice (no OC)
    MSI Neo4 Platinum (not SLI)
    (2) 512MB Kingston Value 3200 (200MHz) DDR (dual-channel, slots 1 and 2)
    250GB Seagate SATA
    Some kind of 16x DVD+R/W
    Gigabyte 6600GT (stock clocking)
    Antec 450W SmartPower 2 (12V-17A + 12V-15A IIRC)
Back story: I was having random lockups during gameplay, every 2 or 3 hours in Guild Wars (all games did it, just GW most of all). Moved RAM from slots 1 and 3 to slots 1 and 2. Didn't help. Then set PCIe clock 5 MHz ahead at the suggestion of one of these forums, which seems to have fixed the problem. (Thank you so very much all!)
I look at PC health when I go to BIOS and it shows (with no overclocking) DDR at 1 MHz higher than normal and CPU at 2010 MHz, instead of the supposedly stock 2000 MHz.
Could my lockup issues be related to this quirky MHz speed? (OC'ing the PCIe appears to have fixed it). I now understand PCIe was probably running asynchronous to CPU timing the entire time (and still is?)  :(
What could cause the slight OC in RAM and CPU? I have all settings on auto for CPU voltage, which hovers around 1.4 (normal from what I see online). Interestingly, all my voltages are being reported as pretty much spot-on except the 12V, which is showing 12.5V consistently.
Any ideas or suggestions? I'd like everything with as tight a timing as possible because I want to make sure this lockup issue NEVER comes back!
Thanks in advance for any advice!
    EDIT: (2) 512MB oops. . !

It think it may finally be gone, but I'll have to try tonight and tomorrow to be sure. I played Guild Wars for around 5 hours last night with no lockups.
    Here's what I did:
Googled "PC lock up" for some crazy reason, just to see what other ideas were out there. Like 3rd link down brought me to a page where a guy had my exact same issues and same board but an ATI card. He had tried pretty much the same things too. He said he fixed it by updating his AC97 sound card drivers.
At that moment I didn't even know what was actually on my board, but I knew it was a generic card I was probably never going to use anyway, and I didn't recall getting any sound card updates for this board. So I looked in device manager, and bingo: AC97 device under multimedia devices.      I immediately did two things to completely eliminate the rascal: updated the driver for it and promptly went to BIOS and disabled the sucker. Also disabled SATA group 2 (slots 3 and 4), the Marvell LAN because I only use one ethernet anyway (the nVidia one, which from what I was reading, was probably the more robust of the two), both RAID controllers (actually I had disabled them earlier to skip the annoying RAID setup screen), and put the PCIe bus back to 100MHz (rogue: I was wondering about possible damage over time with this too high too, so I was glad to try setting it back to normal!) Also ran Driver Cleaner to rip out the detonators even though I was putting in another nVidia, and then put in the 6800GT and installed drivers. (In case you were interested, my 3dMark05 score went from 3511 under the 6600GT to 4939 under the 6800GT! I now run in 1280x1024 at max effects and I'm completely spoiled in one night already!  )
Anyway, one of these myriad, desperate attempts must have worked because I get neither audio stutters (should have been a freaking clue in the first place, duh!) nor lock ups.
Since this is the first PC I've built, I was certain I had to have screwed something up hardware-wise or found some combination that had incompatibilities. If it WAS just the freaking sound card driver I'm going to leave this place in shame and never post again!    In my defense, the MSI Update utility didn't show any updated sound drivers for me, and I had assumed it was being pre-empted by my SB Live in any case.
I was convinced this problem was (if it is indeed gone) a video card issue but I can't say it ever was without putting the 6600 back in and running for several hours. I'm going to bet it was the AC97 though because nVidia boards have always been fantastic for me, I haven't had any actual motherboard issues, my RAM and CPU are just fine, and Win2k has never let me down.
Don't assume anything, though, I've learned.
One thing to note: when I was checking out the AC97, I noticed it was *sharing* IRQ 20 with the nForce NIC detector (might have a different name, I can't remember right now). Apparently this is a capability of Win2k to share IRQs but it kind of added to my suspicions anyway.
I'll let you know how the next few sessions go and whether this issue is still an issue!

What kind of monitor, how is it connected and does it use calibration software.  I've seen this with Samsung (and some OEM brands made by Samsung) monitors, which use Magictune, connected to the DVI port.  Basically Magictune is crap ands clobbers the monitor's EDID info so that it switches to the VGA port - you can check this by plugging in the VGA cable.  Depending on the monitor, it can cause permanent damage to the monitor's firmware which requires a firmware re-burn... or as apparently in your case, temporary damage which is fixed with a reboot.  The only solution is to get a newer version of Magictune.. or dump it completely.

  • Neo4 Platinum (Non-SLi) Audio Plug

I only purchased my computer on friday (17th of June) from a local retailer, and after the initial struggles i have only the one issue left.
i read other topics about on-board audio issues relating to psu conflicts and missing voltage rails (way over my head) but to my understanding that was only to the Diamond and the Neo4 Plantinum SLi versions only.  I have the non-SLi version so here is another topic.
Having updated bios and audio drivers and done everything else i can think of - the Front Channel plug of the on-board audio is completely dead.  not that the speakers dont work, and as far as i can tell not that the drivers dont work, but well and truely dead, nothing comes out speakers/audio devices connected to the Front Channel plug, not even EMI.
All other channels work fine, and i was almost prepared to purchase a Audigy 2 sound card but also noticed a (long) topic regarding errors there too.  Naturally id like to avoid additional purchases if i can, so i thought i might ask the question:  Can i / should i send it to be repaired/replaced?
I noticed there is a 7 day dead-on-arrival warrenty, but not sure if this applies to me as i bought it from a local computer store (brand new in the box and invoiced tho)

Ah ok i didnt know who i could take it to to repair.
I installed the drivers off the cd the first time, and after they didnt appear to be working i then formatted the PC and installed those Realtek AC97 drivers.  Unfortunately, if i plug the rear speakers into the front channel and the front speakers into the rear channel - the front speakers will play music from the rear channel fine, but the rear speakers on the front channel will be dead.
    Thanks for ya time.

    ==USB problem==
The MSI MEGA STICK do not work with the MSI K7N2 Delta ILSR.
When you plug it, its recognized, you can write on the MEGA STICK, delete files but cannot READ from MEGA STICK. It freezes while display "reading". I have tried on lots of PCs. Only my MSI motherboard do not work properly. The same problem with my 2 MEGA STICK. And i had tried Windows XP and Linux. Same problem. Others USB devices works fine. Even card readers...
    ==PS2==
My optical wireless mouse do not works properly. When i turns on the computer, it works ok. If i restart, do not work. Restart again, works. And go on... Only this mouse. Others MB works fine.
    ==Sound Output==
And also with my sound output. The eletrical one (coaxial).
It do not work with my 5.1 home system. It works fine with my old SB Live. It gets worse when i use my tv output from my Radeon 9100. It only works SOMETIMES when the tv output is not plugged in.
Thanks to all that could help me.

    Mega stick.
have you updated the firmware ?
No. It Freezes before being able to update. Also the update do not tell about solving this problem
    "Firmware version: 2.05
    Update items
    1. Improve delete MP3 and voice files function.
    2. Fix device will restart while forward/backward Voice file."
you do know that windows xp does not come with usb2 drivers.
sp1 does and you have to install them yourself.
go to device manager and delete all usb entries and reboot and windows will install the usb2 drivers next time you boot.
if you get a slipstreamed version of xp you dont need to do this as it installed usb2 drivers rightaway.
slipstream means a xp disc with sp1 on it.
My XP cd is already SP1. Also tried on BIOS to use only USB 1.1V
    PS2.
tried to use the other ps2 contact ?
No. Could i use the keyboard PS2 to plug the mouse?

  • HT4623 Sound and other problems with Ipad 3 after ios 6.1.3 update

I purchased Ipad 3 last year and got problem of losing sound when I restored the Ipad throgh itunes. The sound came back automatically after I charged the device to 100%. Recently I got the same problem when the operating system was Ios 6.1.2 and then i got updated it to ios 6.1.3. The problem has not been solved while has been added up. Now the Ipad operation is slow, its either freezes and crashes frequently. Once it gets in sleep mode then it does not come back untill i press power button and home button togehter for sometime. I have checked all settings like mute and have restored the ios multiple times on two separate PCs but the problem is still there. Please help me what i need to do next.

Try a reboot of your ipad. Hold the Sleep/Wake button and Home button simulataneously. Keep holding, ignoring the red slider, until the Apple logo appears. Release the buttons and let the ipad restart. A reboot often fixes numerous problems.
Also are you aware that by suncing with a different computer it is likely the personal stuff you had on your ipad from your imac will be removed?
The ipad is designed to sync with only one device.

    Thank you,

    Hi, Eric.

That indicates a kernel panic. Failure to address these when they first arise can result in bad problems becoming worse.
See my "Resolving Kernel Panics" FAQ. This FAQ includes step-by-step instructions for identifying and resolving some of the most common causes of kernel panics. The FAQ is a roadmap: start at the beginning and work systematically through the end, i.e. the "If all else fails..." section.
