MSI neo4 SLI platinum won't power up

well the problem is that my motherboard wont power up
i have cleared the cmos already, the 24 pin connector is in place
but the 4 pin one is not, because i fried another psu because i put a 4-pin connector on a similar place in a DFI mobo
does anyone know what to do
please help

Are you using the D bracket to determine the floppy init hang? I am assuming so since you have no video. Are you sure you are looking at the LED's right? I mistook the floppy init once when I had flipped the computer on it's side and got the orientation mixed up it was actually memory fail. Just saying this because floppy init seems odd.
The no video happens around here alot and sometimes has to do with the switch card. You can test for that by removing the SLI switch card completely and powering up, another weird way to test that sometimes works that is easier then fumbling with the switch card is to remove the video card and see if the D bracket goes further then before. If it does then try reseating the switch card.

MSI P6N Sli Platinum won't Post with E8500

Ok, I've been pulling my hair out on this one off and on for a couple of weeks, and I figured I'd finally just post here and hope for some advice.
I recently bought a C2D E8500 CPU on newegg to replace the E6420 I currently have running in my system. The motherboard is a P6N SLI Platinum with the v1.7 Bios. The problem is that whenever I swap the E8500 in for the E6420 the computer powers on, fans start spinning, and then it just sits. No beeps, no lights, nothing. When I put the E6420 back in the whole thing boots up just fine. I've cleared the CMOS two different ways (removing the battery and hitting the CMOS reset button), and nothing seems to help. I have tested the CPU in another machine, and it works just fine. The MSI tech support has told me that the problem shouldn't be happening, and has suggested that I RMA the board to them. I'd rather not be without my computer for 3-4 weeks, so I figured I'd post here and see if anyone had any advice before I pull the whole system apart and send the MB in.
PSU is a 700W OCZ
Graphics Card is EVGA 9800GT 512MB
Ram is 4GB AData
Let me know if anyone sees any obvious problems.

MSI X99 SLI Plus won't power up

Hi, here is what I got:
Motherboard: MSI X99 SLI Plus
Processor: Intel Core i7-5820K
Memory: G.SKILL Ripjaws 4 series 64GB (8 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 2800
Power Supply: CORSAIR RM Series RM1000 1000W ATX12V v2.31
GPU: ZOTAC ZT-90101-10P GeForce GTX 970 4GB 256-Bit DDR5
The symptom detail is this:
1.If I power on (either through power button on case or MB) for the first time, only the fan that connected to PSU directly will spin for half of second. And then it stop and system is total slient.
2.After that if no matter how many time I push the power button nothing happen.
3.If I clear the CMOS and try power up, then step 1 happen.
4.The only thing that lit-up in MB is the built-in power button
Here is what my system look like
So far I have try to switch out different GPU and switch around the RAM stick but still does nothing. Any suggest will be very helpful tome. Thank you.

Take it all out the case and inspect the board for any visual defects.
Place it on non-conductive surface (wood, cardboard, NOT antistatic bags) and test with one stick of RAM (try different odd numbered slots) and VGA card. Make sure all power connecters are well connected.
Next step, test with another PSU if you have one.
Check CPU socket for bent pins, either with magnifying glass or you can take clear macro photos with good light and inspect them.
Best not to install anything in the case until you made sure it's working, at least the main pats (CPU RAM VGA) and main hard drive, it's nearly no overhead and saves a lot of time when turns out bad.

MSI Neo4 SLI Platinum Sudden NB Heat issue

Greetings. Just when I thought I had it set up great.
I got this board about 2 weeks ago and at first set it up with one drive. It ran great and cool. I recently added more drives. Ran great and cool.
Then I enabled NVRAID for two Raptors. Aside from the Shutdown HANG bug, it ran great and cool. But because of this bug, I moved too the SI RAD. I enabled the SI Raid and reloaded Windows. Took a bit of trial and error with he drive connectors, but I got it working.
After installing all of my apps and imaging my drive, it has been running idle most the day. I started playing COD2 MP and after playing it awhile (About a half hour) I noticed some graphical glitches (quick blinks) and I quit the game. I looked at core center and it said my CPU fan was only running at 880 RPM! I rebooted and I looked in the case and noticed that the fan was fine, and the area around the CPU was quite cool. However, I noticed a lot of heat being generated from the Northbridge Chip. So much so, it was hot to the touch and since my video card sits right on top of it, it was hot, as well as well as my optical drive.
I looked at Core Center and it showed my CPU fan at 2850 RPM, and my NB fan at 6750, then is showed "SLOW" then 6750. I can't explain why it keeps switching like that. Visibly, it looks fine, but generating enormous heat. Is it because of the SI RAID? I had the NVRAID enabled and had no problems. I SWAP to the SI RAID as I was having the shutdown bug from having NVRAID on. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I am kind of lost at what to look for. I can go back to NVRAID and wait for a fix, but don't want to go through the motions if it is not because of the SI RAID.

The first thing I did to my board, after making sure it worked, was take that chipset fan off and examine the TIM. What I found was that it has a fairly thick (1/16" or 1.5mm) tim on the chip, surrounded by a material that keeps the heatsink from contacting the board area. I can't imagine this would provide good cooling so I took it off and reseated it w/ my TIM.
If you want to take this heatsink off, you can do so easily by using only your finger tips to squeeze the plastic barbs. Don't use metal pliers. If you can't do this w/ your fingers,use something plastic or fiber tipped like this.
It doesn't require much pressure at all to squeeze the barbs - all your trying to do at this point is get the barb in the middle of the hole, instead of spread out on the bottom of the board.
Don't try to poke them any further up with anything.
Now that you have the barbs in their holes, grasp the outside of the heatsink and pull straight away from the mb, using as little rocking motion as possible. It will be stuck on there like a piece of dried out gum - which it probably is . Double check your barbs if you meet alot of resistance.
Now to clean off the tim from the heatsink, you will need to be careful here, so as to not remove the padding surrounding the chip. I used a Q-tip and wet the top of the chip with acetone. Then i used another Q-tip, not quite so saturated to dab off the material. Repeat this until you have removed it all. I didn't go as slow and careful as I could have here and dissolved a little of the inner edge of the padding. Thats probably ok, just don't dissolve the whole pad!
I wouldn't recommend removing the padding, as it will help prevent excessive pressure to the corner of the chip when reseating the heatsink. Now that you have the chip and the heatsink clean, apply your new tim.You might not want to use arctic silver as it is somewhat conductive and if you get it on the area surrounding the nf4 chip, that might cause a problem. I use this for everything, as it is non-conductive, and works great. I've compared cpu temps between this and AS5 - I get no difference, even after weeks.
Now that you have your new tim on, reseat the heatsink. What you want to avoid here, is pressing unevenly on one side of it to get the barbs thru the holes. It is possible to chip the corner of the chip if enough pressure is applied to it - that's why you don't want to remove the padding around the chip, as it will resist some of the rocking motion
If your paranoid about this step, get someone else to push the barbs while you hold the heatsink down.
Just take your time and it will go smoothly. I just got this board, so I can't say what improvement this mod has made. I can let you know what the temps are when I start running benches.

MSI P7N SLI Platinum CPU Power Socket

I have a MSI P7N SLI Platinum and I just noticed I dont have a 8pin power plug on my ATX PSU ( this PSU is in my AMD rig)
I've just had a go of trying out my MSI P7N SLI Platinum board as a computer shop said just insert the 4 pin plug you used on your AMD board near the CPU..
I questioned him about it leaving 4 sockets bare, he said it would be fine..
Well I've tried booting up the rig and I get nothing on the screen (No Signal ) checked all sockets (graphics card, cpu)
I do get a little red and blue light on the board and the CPU fan and graphics fan are running fine,, but no signal...
I'm using a Intel Pentium 4, 2.8 GHz Processor Socket 775 which I know is fine,,,
Any views on this "you can use a 4pin plug on the 8pin CPU power socket " ?
Could this be the reason my rig is not booting ?

Yes you can. Make sure that 4pin cable is connected properly at correct side of 8pin socket.

Nop. You can plug 8pin CPU cable if you want to test opposite Should boot with both 4 or 8.

MSI K8N NEO4 SLI PLATINUM Northbrigde fan faulty

Hi, i have an MSI K8N NEO4 SLI PLATINUM mobo since it was released till now the northbridge fan gone faulty. It spin slow as if something causing it from spinning. Worst of all it makes a LOUD vacuum noise 'voooooooooooommm'. Anyway to fix this or to get it replaced? I still have warrenty for it. Thanks

MSI K8N Neo4 SLI Platinum / HDD_LED Problem

Hello,
First off I would like to say that MSI boards rock! I've always been happy with them, in fact this is my fourth MSI board. The board is K8N Neo4 SLI Platinum.
Unfortunately, I'm having a problem with this one. The problem is minor, but it shouldn't happen, at least I don't think. The problem is that even though the hard drive activity wire is properly connected to HDD_LED, it is not working with my SATA drive. No light at all!
I read in newsgroups that there are people with this same problem (although not necessarily with this same board). I haven't found a solution to this yet. So my inquiry here is:
1. Is there anyone else with this exact board with a SATA drive that can confirm his/her HDD_LED light is also not working with a SATA drive?
2. Does MSI have a fix/solution for this?

Confused - whats the difference between K8N Neo4 SLI Platinum and Diamond??

MSI web page says the Diamond has:
"Silicon Image's SATA RAID supports another 2 SATA II ports. Transfer rate is up to 300MB/s."

Another question: for both boards it shows: "NV RAID (Software) - - RAID function available for ATA133 + SATA HD drives or 2 SATA HD"
How can the Raid fuction work for ATA133 drives since the cables for SATA and PATA are different? What do the mean Raid for 133?

Help with ram slots on MSI P7N SLI PLATINUM

rig config:
MSI P7N SLI PLATINUM (MS-7380)
bios version: 1.3v
Q6600 quard core 2.66GHz
Zotac modded 9800GTX+ amped version
2x2 Gb DDR2 800MHz Kingston
500 watt (absolute) power supply (taken form an old HP workstation)
windows 7 X64
Everything's on stock setting
Its been almost 1 & 1/2 years since i bought this rig, and from first month itself i have been having problem with the ram. The problem is not with the sticks, its with the ram slots. There are different things that happen. Sometimes when i boot my system:
1) either, it wont start, i.e. no boot screen.
2) It will load upto windows startup screen, crash and restart in an infinite loop.
3) It will load windows, then crash after sometime.
4) If i run any memory diagnostic, it will give errors.
At these times, i take out my 2 ram sticks, tinker with them, place them in different combination of ram slots, try push them in, in a certain way, keep trying until it yields and it boots up again ( generally a process of 1/2 an hr to an hr). After this my system will work fine ( no errors on any memory diagnostic) and boot properly for a week or 2, maybe even a month, but then again the same problem happens. I know for sure that there is no problem with my dimms (have checked them in other system and they work fine), its something to do with ram slots, or memory bus-controller structure.
Recently the problem happened again, though my tinkering didn't help. My system only boots up if i place any of the ram sticks in the 3rd slot (the 1st orange one). It wont work for any other slot and neither will it work if i place both of the sticks together. I have tried resetting my bios as well cmos settings, but it has not helped. My mb is still in warranty, but if i give it for repair, it will be gone for a good month or so, which doesn't go well with me. If someone has any suggestions, or a way out, it will be highly appreciated. Please help!

Hmm, you are ignoring the possibility that your PSU is "flaky" (that's a technical term)!!!! You've never had any gizmo where "sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't work"?
If you don't want to buy a new PSU then at least beg-borrow-steal another one and see if your symptoms change.

P6N SLI Platinum Won't Load Vista or XP

I trying to load an OS on a new build, but have run into an issue. The build went well, but the OS won't load.
While trying to load Vista (32bit) it says "Loading Operating System" and the progress bar goes all the way to the end but then never gets any further. It just sits there.
So, not being familiar with Vistas load I thought I would tried XP Home SP2. With this I am at least able to partition the drives and choose quick format but once it gets to 20% this too freezes.
So far I have gone into BIOS and chosen to load both safe defaults and optimized defaults, which makes no difference. I have also tried removing one or the other of the memory sticks, again no help.

Who has this setup - MSI P6N SLI Platinum & E8400

This message is intended for anyone who has the MSI P6N SLI Platinum & E8400 in a working state.
I've had the pleasure of perusing these forums for a while in hopes of finding an answer as to why my E8400 isn't working with my P6N SLI Platinum. I've updated my BIOS, I've RMA'd my chip, I've even contacted MSI support (with no reply I might add). I have been so careful when handling these components and thoroughly reading the instructions, to no avail. I've got the board and all components working with a different processor. I've tried the voltage modifications that many have said work, I've tried different memory, I even tried a different video card. So I'm stuck in the same boat as many it seems, however there are one or two posts on this forum and others where people have said they actually got it to work!
So now I really hope I can get this question answered - What is a working config? One of the things I haven't tried yet is a new power supply. My current PS is 650w, but has the 4 pin CPU power connector. From the posts I've read, it shouldn't matter if I have the 4 or the 8. But in reality, does this CPU work on the P6N Plat with an 8 pin connector? I'd be willing to go buy a new PS if thats the case! What else could possibly be the issue? Any and all feedback is appreciated. i really didn't want to start up another thread for this proc/board issue, but perhaps someone else has joined this board by now that may provide the little piece of info that I've been missing.

according to the website, the 1.6 BIOS had cpu updates in march so I's assume it would have support for the E8400.
What exactly happens when you turn on the system with the E8400?

Need some advise - MSI K9N2 Sli Platinum

Hello. I have some strange behavior of the system since the last week. Processor´s fan speeds up and down. Usualy is 3400-3600rpm; now speeds up to 5400-5600rpm and stay accelerate for a good while. I thought it could be some dust; yesterday I made a general cleaning of the hardware and also replaced the Thermaltake fan with another one which I have for replacement. The heatsink is firm, deos not have movements. The thermal grase is OCZ Freeze etc, something good, seems to be hardened because heatsink stay firm. This was assembled some 16 month ago.
I started again the PC, slow down the processor´s speed from OC 3.2Ghz to the basic 2.8 Ghz and the problem still go on. I thought this could be come system drivers problem, some sensor related. Then, I download the sys driver 15.49_nforce_winvista_win7_64bit_intern ational_whql from nVidia site and install it. Nothing, the problem is the same.

The readings of Temperatures the TMPIN0 and TMPIN1, north and south bridge are ok. The TMPIN2 127°C is a dead sensor, it allways was like that from the beginning. Don´t pay attention to it.
I´m really worried that thomething bad could happen and I have not a replacement for this mobo now.
Could be some bad or crazy sensor which send some erroneous signal and that´s could be the origin of this situation?
Does it exist the possibility the mobo get fried?
I hope you´ll have the best advise for me.

I'm confused. You say to ignore the 127° reading, but then state you are concerned and talk about a false reading. What reading and what exactly are you concerned with, the CPU temps? If your system were getting that hot(127°C), you'd shut down or blow something. I'm sure it's a false reading.
If you wish to remove the heatsink, get something like Artic Silver 5 so you have a different paste to use. Then, boot to the bios and leave it there for 15 minutes and shut down(you can simply hit the power off button this way). Immediately, after shutdown, removing the power cord and pushing the power on button several times to drain the capacitors, try and remove the Heatsink carefully with some slight wiggle back and forth motion. Hopefully, the heating of the TIM will make it pliable enough for easier removal. DO NOT USE FORCE.
