MSI NEW P.E. Series Video Card - GTX670 Power Edition 2GD5/OC with Twin Frozr 4

Glad to be back in the forum and I was been busy for awhile. By this time lots of PC hardware already came out especially from Nvidia. Just like today my share would be MSI's N670GTX PE 2GD5/OC video card.
First of all lets talk about the GTX670 GPU chip. This GPU is the younger sibling of GTX680 which uses the same 28nm GK104 chip but with one disabled shader cluster/core.The reference or standard GPU clock is 915Mhz with a turbo boost of 980 and as for the memory is concerned, it has a 256bit memory bus connected to a 2GB GDDR5 memory with speed of 6008Mhz. Just like with any Kepler based architecture, the card would also have all the goodies like "Adaptive V-Sync", "AA TXAA (Temporal Super Sampling)", supports "DX11.1" and improved 3D Vision Surround.
Moving on, let's check out now what MSI did with their GTX670 SKU based video card. The card is under a new Series named "Power Edition" (series comparison table below) and it comes factory overclocked from GPU clock of 915MHz to 1020MHz and Turbo boost of 980Mhz to 1080Mhz. It also comes with the 4th version of Twin Frozr Thermal Cooling design with a theme color of Black and Blue which matches the color of MSI's midrange to high-end motherboards as well. The dual 8cm PWM fan based cooler are equipped with Propeller Fan Blades which draws air better and now has the so called "Dust Removal Technology", basically as you startup your PC the fan will rotate counter clockwise for 30 seconds clearing the dust from the cooling heatsink. Adding a finishing touch, MSI equipped the video card with their Military Class III components ensuring the best performance, efficiency, higher overclocks and durability.

  • MSI R7850 POWER EDITION 2GD5/OC vs TWIN FROZR 2GD5/OC

I had to do an RMA with MSI for the R7850 POWER EDITION 2GD5/OC I had, and it turns out they don't have anymore inventory of it, so I'm accepting a R7850 TWIN FROZR 2GD5/OC as a replacement.
The only differences I can spot immediately are that I may lose voltage control, the Core clock comes slightly lower, and the heatsink is model III instead of IV.
I imagine I can just overclock with Afterburner if needed to up the core clock; I'm wondering if voltage control could also be unlocked though? Also is there any other difference that I should be aware of?

general difference between Power Edition and models with Twin Fozr,
is that Power Editions has Enhanced PWM Design and offers triple voltage control [compared to regular model: + memory voltage and + Aux voltage]

1 - check the results at http://ppbm5.com/ to see which models are listed

Sorry for the long copy and paste. I read that I can upgrade the video card and power supply. But atm when I play world of warcraft at ultra settings, I tend to lag really bad in the new instances with the new cat expansion that came out. I wanted to know if I should upgrade the video card and power supply for better performance or just upgrade my whole pc tower.  Fyi, I am running a Acer X243w lcd flat panel monitor if that helps too.

My brother has a high end laptop with a built in, high end gaming video card (I forget which one). He's able to run the game on full-on Ultra.
I have an integrated video card which games the game on.. 'cartoon'.. mode. It's lower then low. When someone shoots a powerful spell at me, I go into a DOS Prompt. (not really, but it's pretty bad).
Funny thing is, I can still kick my brother's butt in any PVP match he wants to set up.
But I guess his graphics are pretty....
As for which video card works best, I'd have to do some research. After that graphics update they did with CAT,  it's kind of a toss up again.

  • Will this video card and power supply work on my computer? HP Pavilion p6213w Desktop PC

I have a HP Pavilion p6213w Desktop PC, will this video card and power supply work on my computer?
    Video Card: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=8379339&sku=A455-0760
    Power Supply: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4668507&sku=C13-2511
Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks.

It is unlikely that the power supply will fit/work in your HP Pavilion p6213w Desktop Computer. Please consider the Corsiar CX500, CX500M, CX600, and CX600M for your power supply needs. These power supplies are the same physical size as the factory unit and are known to fit and work in most HP full-sized consumer desktop computers.
There is a chance that the GTX 760 and other current generation video cards may not work in your computer. These newer cards typically require the computer to support the most current UEFI standards and many motherboards don't meet this criteria. Please know the return policy on any video card you purchase, in case it doesn't work. If the GTX 760 doesn't work, consider the GTX 650/660 Ti or equivalent AMD graphics card for your graphics card needs.
If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

  • GTX670 Power Edition Fan not spinning

One of the fans in my gtx670 power edition has recently stopped to spin. Both would usually spin together before.
When i use afterburner and set my fan speed to 85%+ it starts spinning again, just to stop after i lower the load.
Is it a known issue and is there a known fix? Or is my fan just malfunctioning and needing replacement?
This is the one i have:

    Thanks.
I got an aftermarket fan since RMAing is not possible because i live in another country.
It will be a while for it to arrive but it is worth testing. Just came here before to check if it could be something with new nvidia drivers or similar.

  • BIOS Update for the MSI GTX670 Power Edition Card

There is a Bios update for the MSI GTX670 PE video card but it's for a hybrid card. What is meant by a hybrid card and how do I know if this applies to my video card? It keeps saying that you have to be the administrator and Iam the administrator on my system. I do not understand.

You can use windows version of it to flash it:

  • Setting up a new server without a video card?

I am looking into buying a G5 server to support my new graphics dept that will be using Macs for design work. I noticed that in configuring a G5 server that one of the options is to include a video card. If I decide not to include a card, is there some other way to setup a G5 server straight out of the box without it having a video card?

    Repent34-
Greetings. You can indeed do as suggested with ARD, the Admin tools and another Mac. If you are running more than one server then you might be able to justify the expense of those tools. A video card is a hundred bucks and a small and lightweight flat panel monitor ain't much these days.
If you decide that you need more servers in the future then you must decide what to do if and when that happens. Right now, the graphics card/monitor solution might be the easiest and most cost-effective.
If you have the bucks then indeed go for the good stuff.
I once justified an iPod to back my servers up because it mentions it in the Getting Started manual.
    Luck-

  • MSI P6N SLI-FI - two video cards non SLI help

    Hi,
I am currently running Win 7 Pro 64bit on a MSI P6N SLI with a GeForce GTS 250.
I would like to run 3 monitors and thus install another video card. I was thinking about an GeForce 9400GT using PCIe.
My manual tells me I can only run two video cards in SLI mode, which I don't want to do.
Searching this forum, I found two contradicting posts; one telling me that it is possible to run two cards non-SLI (https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=107857.0), one telling me it's not (https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=124883.0).
Can anyone tell me which one's true?
And as an alternative, would it be possible to use a PCI (non-PCIe) card like a GeForceFX 5200 additionally to my GTS 250?
    Any help would be appreciated,
    greetings
    cmdkeen

that guy would be me and yes, my pc BSOD-ed like hell with a 8600GT and a 9800GTX, but only after a few days.
maybe it was a driverissue, but I gave up after a 3 weeks
now im running a 250GTS alongside the 9800GTX (non sli !!) and that works fine, since the 250 is essentially a rebranded 9800GTX.
so dont  be to happy yet and wait for a few days/weeks and see how it goes.
if it BSOD's, best bet is to get an identic vga, would be my advice.
good luck an keep us posted.

  • MSI P6N SLI Platinum - Two Video Cards Non SLI

I have a P6N SLI Platinum that I am trying to get two video cards working at the same time, but not in an SLI configuration. I'm wanting to use them for 3 monitors at the same time. The cards are both Nvidia 8800GS, but one is by EVGA and one is XFX. Both cards work individually, but when trying to use both of them at the same time, Windows will not recognize them. I am currently running Windows XP Pro. Is this type of configuration possible with this motherboard? Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

i think you will be told by msi to be able to use two card on one mobo you have to have sli enabled.

  • Problem with nvidia video card GTX670 in PS CC

I have been using PE10, but have just installed Photoshop CC v. 13.1.2 x64.  Although my video card (nvidia GTX 670, 2 gb RAM) is recognized by Photoshop, when I check "use graphics processor" under "preferences/performance" the converted RAW image is somewhat blurred at all zoom levels (except 100%) compared to when it is unchecked and sharp (for both Canon 1100D and 6D). The problem may possibly reside in the RAW conversion, because if I convert the file with "use graphics processor" unchecked, and then subsequently check it after it has been opened, the image is not blurry and I have access to all of the video card supported functions. Has anyone else experienced this problem, and found a solution?  Thanks, artmar4 (intel i5-3670, 24 gb RAM, Windows 7, 64 bit).

    artmar4 wrote:
I must admit it's not intuitve to me that the image would be somewhat blurred when clicking on "fit screen" and "fill screen" (but then what do I know.)
The GPU image-interpolation for display is more sophisticated than that of the CPU, but both methods cannot avoid compromising the image quality in some way in order to reduce the scale of an image. The GPU method can produce blurry results whereas the CPU method can produce ragged results.
Both methods produce very good results when the zoom is 100% divided by a power of two. However, "Fit Screen" and "Fill Screen" won't give a nice neat zoom level like that, except on very rare occasions when an image has a particular size relative to the screen.
Here's a (hideous) contrived example of the blurriness of GPU versus the raggedness of CPU. First is the image at 100% zoom. Then the doc on the left of each screenshot is being scaled by the GPU, the doc on the right by the CPU. Click the images to view without forum resampling!

  • Need to 30" displays on new mac pro - which video card?

Will the stock Nvidea GT120 card support a second 30" display with an adapter? Will the ATI 4870 card?
I have an older ATI 3870 card that will support two 30" monitors, but not sure if that will work with Snow Leopard.

I've read the 3870 doesn't support some new forthcoming OpenCL, nothing else. Why not just try it out. Install a fresh copy of SL on one of your drive/partitions and see.
Would a GT120 work? well, why wouldn't it? Is the GT120 a step up, or down?
